My visit has some additional issues, but my 2 stars rating is purely based on the taste of the food (or lack of). Maybe there are other things on the short menu, but the items I ordered were "meh" at best. First of all, the hummus doesn't taste like hummus. Actually doesn't taste like anything really. Then let's talk about the goat cheese, which I've ordered on the Curds and on the Beet Salad: where was the goat cheese flavor?? On curds was really mild and overall too salty. On the beet salad was nonexistent! It's served with a paste they are calling goat cheese, but it doesn't taste like goat cheese or any other cheese. Consistency is more for mayo and the little flavor more to yogurt. Then it came the Risotto. Terrible. I'm a sucker for risotto, so everywhere I go I order it if they carry on the menu. This one was by far the worst risotto I've ever had, including my own lame tentative to make risotto at home. Had 3 bites and left it all. Additional issues were: - slow slow slow food service (server was attentive and around) - a server brought an extra item and one person at my party told her that he could keep it if nobody wanted it, to what she said "hold on, i'll check" taking the plate away and she never came back to say anything Overall the restaurant looks good and it may have some items that are good, but not for me. I've been to Rye many times in the past, mostly for cocktails and once for dinner. This review focuses on cocktails in the bar. The bar has gone way downhill since I've been there last. My buddy and I stopped for a couple drinks this past Saturday night, our yearly pre-holiday-chaos outing. In short, the two different cocktails I had were the most flavorless I've ever tasted. This is especially disappointing considering the price AND one of my favorite cocktails, the padington is no longer on the menu. The "vibe" has also shifted to cool and crafty to "we are doing the best with the people we have." Our bartender was curt and just not friendly which particularly disappointing. Unfortunately, Appleton and College Ave in particular suffer from a lack of really good cocktails outside of the usual WI style old fashioneds (which I love BTW). Rye was filling that void for a while but not any more. If you're from out of town, please save yourself the annoyance and go elsewhere. Note: As of this writing, a really good craft cocktail bar across the street, Nice Time lost their lease and closed. One of the owners was a bartender at Rye once upon a time. Terrible service. There are better more friendly places in downtown (anywhere is better than here). Tylor, the server, didn't bother to seat us as we were there 9.01pm vs 9.00pm! Well, apparently 1 minute is so important in Appleton. Ridiculous, definitely won't be dining here again, and won't be staying in CopperLeaf hotel either. If you're into hand crafted cocktails made by knowledgeable bartenders this is NOT the place. Too bad because it looks the part for sure. My bartender whipped up a whiskey sour in 5 seconds with pre-made sour mix and a shot of "something" from the bar gun. No shaker, no effort, no knowledge of how to properly make a cocktail. Disappointing for the price and a letdown. The follow on Manhattan was the same. Made with a bar gun in 5 seconds. The filet was good quality but had little flavor. This was our first visit to Rye. We both had salads for starters...Wedge and a Root salad...both were quite delicious. My carnivorous date had the lamb burger with feta and tomato compote, which he said was amazing. I am a vegetarian so I tried the squash ravioli. I wish I could have licked the bowl! We had to put ourselves over the edge and devour the chocolate torte dessert. We had professional and quite pleasant server. This was a lovely experience. It is pricey...so this spot will only be for special outings but that is just fine by us. read more

RYE - located in the Copperleaf Boutique Hotel in Downtown Appleton was a breakfast treat. We both had the eggs benedict served with lemony smooth hollandaise sauce and seasoned home fries - deliciously crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Our server was efficient and energetic, she made our breakfast comfortable and enjoyable. We enjoyed the rustic decor and the clam shell chandelier. Great atmosphere! Definitely one of the better vibes in town. Drinks were great. My wife's Pomegranate Martini was stellar and my Whiskey Ginger was well made. Friendly staff, probably no one under 30 however. I ordered the Chipotle Beef Tips and although it was tasteful, it was more of a stew than a dish really; not quite like the menu described, thus the loss of star. Disappointing to say the least! I made reservations for my Mother's 70th Birthday lunch before a PAC show on a Saturday. We were seated promptly, and greeted curtly. Coldest service I have ever experienced. The server seemed annoyed that we asked for drinks other than the water provided, and we literally had to raise our voices to try to get her to stay in order to finish our order. We were never asked how our food was, never given refills on sodas, and our plates sat on the edge of the table for over 10 minutes. I asked for a refill and never got it. The food was ok, the lamb stew could have had more flavor, and my mother's burger was tough and she couldn't pull the bun apart. Definitely not the dining experience we were hoping for. Wanted to eat dinner on bar on Friday evening about 6 PM...would not serve food at bar on weekend per bartender. I was not the only hotel guest that was miffed. I left. I ordered the chicken marsala with fingerling potatoes and green beans. The marsala sauce was spectacular - rich, not too salty, and with mushrooms that were still firm. The potatoes were perfectly done, and the green beans tasted like they came from a local garden. My date ordered root beer braised short ribs, with mashed potatoes. I thought it was pretty good, and he loved it. I'd rate this place higher, but the arrogant waitstaff was a *huge* turn-off. I get it. This is considered "high end" dining in Appleton, but there's no reason for the people working there to act ridiculously standoffish towards the clientele. High-end food and atmosphere should come with equally high-end service. read more

Attempted to eat breakfast. The waitress did not seat me and instead devoted her attention to rolling napkins all the time. Their menu stated rye bread but they attempted to serve me white bread. The waitress was nowhere in sight when i attempted to point this out. Needless to be said, no compensation or substitution was offered by the management other than an empty apology. This place is just underwhelming. I wanted to like Rye, I really really wanted to. Unfortunately, after two visits for lunch, I am fairly confident I won't return. The decor really is lovely and on trend, the money put into renovations surely shows. However, the menu is small and pricey. My first visit I had the "Bistro" which is a grilled cheese, salad and cup of soup. The grilled cheese had quality ingredients but was coated in butter. My friend and I ordered martini's that were brought to us only halfway filled. It was lackluster but I was willing to give it another try... I went back today for lunch again, this time I ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken (for an extra $6). It was so unbelievably salty, it was almost inedible. I offered my dining companion advice about the grilled cheese and she asked to have less butter on her bread and it was much less greasy. I also noticed a table next to us order Bloody Mary's that came in very small mixer glasses. Hopefully they got what they paid for, but I know they made a comment to the bartender. All in all, Rye has a lot of potential and after the wonderful reviews on the Chef's other restaurants (Chives in Suamico) I had high hopes. The service is okay, but nothing outstanding. The prices are high and in my opinion, not justifiable. If I wanted to pay $18 for a salad and tea for lunch, I wouldn't do it again at Rye. read more

Really great food and ambience. BUT be aware that there are hidden split fee charges. We came as a party of two to the restaurant at 3 pm, when there was only one other occupied table. One of us ordered an entree. The other ordered an appetizer. Both of us ordered cocktails. The server offered to split the entree in two. Our bill then included a 4 dollar split charge, a charge which we were not informed of beforehand. The server quickly dismissed the inquiry when we questioned her about it.
