Any other night I would give them at least 4 stars. Not sure what was going on tonight. Told wait was approximately 45 mins. After hour and a half went to check progress. Was told 3 groups ahead of us....cool, right? Sat and watched 5 pagers go off and 5 groups go in. Another half hour went and checked again, told we were next....great. Sat and watched 2 more groups go in after their pagers went off. So we moved down to wait right in front of hostess stand, since we were next. The hostess acted like I was out of line. I was not rude. I was polite and tipped our server well. The food was great as usual but I had such a headache by the time we got seated that I couldn't eat more than 1/4 of my dinner. Hopefully they get a better handle on gauging wait time now that they apparently also take reservations. read more

Atmosphere: Tight parking lot that was packed to the brim, do not wear your nice shoes ladies if it rains, lots of potholes and gravel. The inside was old school, I'm guessing it's been a hot minute since anything was updated. Single person bathroom so it's a waiting game if you need to go. Service: You place your name with the hostess to be seated when you walk in. It was about a 40 minute wait. They must have been really understaffed because the dining room was half empty when we were seated. After we put our name in I wanted to order a cocktail but when I told the bartender what I wanted to order she said she'd try her best but it wasn't her specialty (it's 3 ingredients?), so I opted for a beer not wanting to shell out the dough for a potentially crappy cocktail. The beer was not cold...choked my way through it and that was enough for drinks for the evening. We ended up going to a different bar down the road for drinks after. Food: You order after you are seated? Which is a first for me at a supper club. I opted out of an entrée because everyone's food looked really heavily breaded and I do not care for thick breading. I instead got the all you can eat soup and salad bar. It was...dismal at best. The soups were empty, the bread was this weird white bread which ripped if you tried to put butter on it because the butter was cold. The salad bar was over half empty and the ingredients were weird (chicken gizzards that were pickled? with at least 10 empty slots you think they'd put things out that everyone would like). Nothing was labeled at the salad bar either, so it was like playing a guessing game of what you were eating or attempting to eat for most of it. The friend I went with gave me a few bites of food off their plate and I'm so glad I did not order an entrée, the fish was dry, the broccoli wasn't seasoned, and the "potato puff" was like deep fried box mashed potatoes? Weirdest experience I've had out in a while....I'm wondering if I just came on a bad night because of all the good reviews? Either way I'm in no rush to come back. read more

Looking at reviews, it was hard to tell if our experience at the restaurant would be good or bad. We decided to give it a try, despite the reviews. Turns out the restaurant has been under the current ownership for less than three (3) months (so older reviews probably don't mean much). We found the staff to be friendly and the owner, who was also friendly, was working as a host and helping at the bar. Our group had a mix of things from the menu and everyone agreed things were at least "good" or "very good". I personally had the fried chicken and thought it was very good. My wife enjoyed her ribs and chicken. Friends liked their fish plates. There were two good soups to accompany an ample salad bar. The drinks at the bar were good, but a little more expensive than most supper clubs in the area. Overall, we were satisfied and are likely to give it a try again in the future. read more

We heard great things and wanted to try it tonight, Saturday, September 15th, 2018. Four of us arrived and all the seats at the bar were taken and a table near the end of the bar was available. We sat down and after a couple minutes the bartender was handing out dishes of potato skins to everyone at the bar. She brought one over and seemed polite. She never mentioned there was no cocktail waitress or for us to order at the bar. My brother went to the bar and she bypassed him to help another. At this point we have been in the establishment for approximately 20 minutes and we decided to leave. My brother returned to complain and was essentially brushed off. Went twice, once for lunch and once for dinner, both on Fridays. The atmosphere is a bit wanting...they have some nice artwork and some old stuff that doesn't match...maybe time for a decorator to come in. It looks very "old Wisconsin" and I guess the locals may like that? The food is okay...not a fan of the fried haddock, liked the walleye better. The potato salad was good but the potato puffs are not. The salad bar and soups are nice and plentiful and serve yourself. The prices were okay, but not great. I remember the half order of the fish was like 11 or 12 and that was with salad bar, soup, potato choice, and one thing of fish. I glanced the scallops supreme which was like 16 for a half order, though. The dinner had a good variety for the menu, though. The best thing was the service. My husband and I love supper clubs and the Granary does not disappoint! We both ordered filets, medium rare they were cooked and seasoned perfectly! My husband had steamed vegetables with his and they were a frozen California blend (the only downfall to the meal), I had a baked potato (can't go wrong with that). My husband had a spicy Bloody Mary that had perfect flavor but no celery garnish. I had a Pinot Grigio. Our meals came with soup and salad bar, if you read my reviews you know I hate ice berg lettuce, while this salad bar had that they also had a spring lettuce mix so I was ok with that. The soups were chicken and dumpling and meatball, I had the chicken/dumpling, neither of us tried the meatball. The soup had good flavor as well. The only "odd" item was the pickled chicken gizzards on the salad bar, I would never have ordered it but surprisingly not bad. The restaurant pickles them. The customer service was wonderful! This has been my favorite supper club for the last couple years. Tonight we came in and it was busy. Expecting to wait we ordered drinks at the bar. The bartender was beyond rude and refused to give my change. When we told the owner we were not staying for dinner because of the poor treatment he simply walked away. So did we and we are never going back. Update: went to Lugnutz on a whim. Nice folks that appreciated our business and the perch plate was Amazing! read more

We went to the Granary a few fridays ago to celebrate my son's homecoming. The service was great. The drinks were awesome and we were having a great time. Our steaks showed up and were horrid. No only weren't they cooked properly but the cut of beef was the worst. We didn't even bring them home for the dogs. Visiting the area for the week and had to try one of the famed "Supper Clubs" while here. The Granary did not disappoint. We had a party of 8 and tried a variety of things including the NY Strip and Lobster, Filet, Steak Tips, Pike, and Shrimp. The cheese curds were awesome and the old school salad bar was fresh and had interesting local favorites on it. The potato puff was a must have. Everyone's meals were great. The specialty Granary Old Fashions with your choice of mushrooms, brussel sprouts or other vegetables in them were the highlight of the night. Their special recipe creates a very unique drink that you must try. Ended the night with ice cream sundaes for the kids. Great meal with really great service. Was told the fish was so good by others, what a disappointment. The perch was what I remember as being fish sticks. Frozen prebreaded out of the grocery store ocean perch. It was not flaky it was mush. Only reason it gets two stars was the salad bar was great and the waitress was great. read more

We don't usually write reviews on restaurants but we felt like we had to make an exception. We were originally going to go to the Outpost (an excellent restaurant in sherwood) but we had to settle for the Granery. When we came into the restaurant, we didn't know if we had to seat ourselves or wait to be seated-there was no sign- so we sat down ourselves. This confusion brought us to a 20-minute hiatus until we got the manager's attention. (This might've been justified because it was our first time in the restaurant, but still.) We sit down and wait another 20 minutes for our water, of which we felt we should've received right away. Mind you, this was not a busy night at the Granery (although the waitress said afterward that they had a new busser and that she wasn't very good- this implies some internal management issues). We order our food, a 12oz New York Strip for $20, and the Tenderloin steak tips. We wait another 20 (approximate) and then the waitress finally asks for our drinks. At this point, we were growing impatient. We wait half an hour for our food to arrive. We begin eating, but my dad didn't care for the tenderloin;it was much too chewy and undercooked. The baked potato that he received isn't much better, it is hard and uneatable. When I try my medium-rare steak, I have to remove a lot of the fat just to get to the center, this probably removes about 1/3 of my steak right off the bat. The middle was cooked alright, and it had flavor, but we felt it had too much fat for the size and price to be considered a good, high value steak. At this point in time, as Dad doesn't want his undercooked tenderloin or hard potato, the waitress takes it away and says she feels bad for him. A while later, she comes with the check and a "present." She explains that the cooks have made him replacement tenderloins, and it was free. We thought of this as a nice gesture at the time, and hoped it would be better than what he had gotten earlier. We were wrong. This new steak, when we opened it up, was mooing on the Wisconsin farms waiting to be slaughtered. My dad orders his steaks medium, but this was less than rare. When you have to cook it again for 5 minutes just to make it medium, that's not a good thing. It was still much too fatty afterwards to enjoy eating. TL;DR, nobody came to serve us, our orders for drinks were taken after the food, and our steak was uneatable. I would not recommend coming here, unless it was truly a "bad day"-as the waitress said- for the staff. (My dad had a lot of gas afterwards-my family could barely breathe-we thought it was the next World War in my family room. I fully blame the Granery for his unspeakable actions.) read more

Called for reservations on Saturday, 10/20/12, for 5:30 p.m. Were told that, for a party of two, no reservations were necessary. Arrived about 5:20 p.m., and ordered two rail drinks. Both were nicely made, and reasonably priced at 2.75 each. This place follows the (strange) Wisconsin tradition of giving you your menu and taking your order from the bar. After ordering, and paying for a second drink, we were seated at our table. The salad bar, which accompanies most meals, was ample and had lots of variety. Unfortunately, both the meatballs and the soup on the salad bar were more than a bit too heavy on the salt . Actual salad ingredients were plentiful, fresh and tasted good. My dining companion's appetizer arrived with the meals. When this was pointed out to the waitress, she said "sorry I am new." (Note to all restaurant owners...advise all new employees NOT to share this. And advise all employees not to make excuses for mistakes...a simple sorry and corrective action will suffice.) The appetizer of pork shanks (which we had had at this place some eight plus years ago) were sadly unrepresentative of the shanks we had had previously. While generously sized, the moisture had been cooked out of them, suggesting that they were braised too long. The commercial barbecue sauce which accompanied them was fine, though a homemade sauce would have been appreciated. Everything said about the shanks can be said regarding the full rack of barbecue ribs my dining companion received at the same time as the shanks were delivered. I ordered the "steamed seafood platter," for $28.00. The menu promised freshly steamed "lobster, shrimp, crab legs and haddock." My meal arrived with only cocktail sauce, so I had to ask for melted butter. Notably, the 3 oz (or so) lobster tail had either been broiled, rather than "steamed," or was so oversteamed as to resemble over-broiled lobster. It was chewy and had very little lobster taste. The crab legs, were...just ok. Some had been split, some had not, and temperatures among all the items varied from warm to pretty cool. The shrimp also tasted as if they had been broiled, rather than steamed as ordered. I did not get to the haddock. The side dish of hash browns and onions was served so cool that the butter placed on them never melted. Additionally, twenty minutes into eating the above mentioned entrees, the waitress had never checked back to ask if we were happy with our entrees. Finally, when the check arrived, my dining companion had been charged for the meal of ribs, which HAD been ordered, but was also charged for a MEAL portion of pork shanks, for $10.95, rather than the appetizer portion of shanks (3.95) that was ordered and delivered with the meal. While initially appreciative of the feedback I provided to the management during our meal, the same manager seemed less appreciative when I explained that we had been overcharged for the appetizer. Will I return...at some point, I probably will. Given this experience, it will not likely be soon. read more
