My spouse and I have been long tome customers (10+ years), our last two visits have left us disappointed. The overall quality of ingredients has diminished although prices have gone up. There is an expectation when you pay 30.00 plus for and entree it meets expectations. Recently they haven't. Bummer. Pasty dry and flavorless polenta, woody mushroom stems, watered down salad dressing, excessive fat and gristle in some of the beef tip entrees. Some of the best gnocci I have ever had. Very soft and pillowy. Very apparent that it was homemade. Appetizers were fine- didn't get a picture. Same with drinks. We ate at three different restaurants during our week working in Oshkosh, and this was the best of the three! We entered the restaurant and were promptly greeted. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave us a nice list of specials to look over. We ordered drinks - a cherry old fashioned and Cupid's lemon drop. Both were a little too sweet for us.for dinner we shared the apple cider pork pasta and a beef chimichurri salad. The pasta was the star. The entree also came with a cup of beef soup which was delicious. The salad was good too but we felt it needed a little something more to jazz it up line Greek olives. When we arrived with our group of ten, the restaurant was almost completely empty. We were seated in the back room. The front room was really bright with lots of windows. We were seated in the market part of the store. Our server was very nice, and the food was good. It was a really slow meal. We were there for about an hour and forty minutes. Drinks were very slow to come out. Only about half of our group ordered meals and they were also incredibly slow to come out. Definitely recommend! I was traveling for work and came here by myself. I was able to get a nice high top by the window. The service was fast and friendly. The quality of the food is what wowed me the most. I wish I came here with a larger group so I could've tried more items. The braised beef ravioli was cooked perfectly and the creamy sauce complimented it so well. It came with a side salad or soup - I got the side salad. Best side salad I've had in years! Fresh veggies, quality cheese, tasty croutons and ranch was to die for. The lava cake was very good for a gluten free item! They also have a great wine list! Gardina's Kitchen & Bar had been on our radar for a while and last weekend we were finally able to give it a try. The service was attentive but not oppressive. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. Shout out to Dalton for his welcoming personality and hard work. We requested a high-top table along the street for a bit of scenery. Dalton gave us some recommendations on signature cocktails, and also took care to pace out the meal so all our food didn't arrive at the table at once. These nuances really elevate the dining experience. We started off with the Creole lobster dip which was phenomenal with chunks of lobster and a slow burn with the spice. Then we had the butternut squash bisque that packed a ton of flavor without being too heavily laden with dairy. For main entrees, I went with the garlic & chive New York strip steak while my wife went with the shrimp prosciutto fettucine. My steak was cooked to an impeccable medium-rare and seasoned very well. My wife's pasta dish was a bit lacking in substance and flavor, stating that it wasn't necessarily bad enough to send back but just ok. We then finished off the meal with red wine and the raspberry dark chocolate torte that was both decadent and indulgent. Overall, we were pleased with this establishment. I would definitely consider coming back to check out a few other offerings on the menu. Also, they have a liquor market in the back of the restaurant that keeps a formidable selection wines and spirits. Notably, the bourbon variety was impressive with competitive prices. What has happened to Gardina's? For years this has been our favorite restaurant in Oshkosh. Tonight we brought friends from out of town and we're embarrassed by our recommendation. The restaurant was quite empty for a Saturday night yet the service was quite slow. But most disappointing was the food. In the past we have found the dishes bursting with flavor and imaginative present but tonight everything was bland. Two of us had the shrimp with prosciutto fettuccine which looked lovely but was completely lacking in flavor or spices of any kind. My wife had the risotto which in the past has been one of our favorites but tonight had the consistency of oatmeal and again no flavor. I'm assuming there is a new chef, but whaever the reason they really need to fix this or they will lose very loyal customers. This was by far the worst food we have had in decades! The crab cakes lacked crab and had an odd flavor keeping the breading together. The mixed vegetable soup was way too oily and lacked vegetables. We think it was just spinach. The walleye had an over powering lemon glaze and lacked flavor in the fish. The macaroni and cheese needed more creaminess and cheese. I wanted an elevated lunch, was an easy going day. Walked into the restaurant excited they were open for lunch. I came alone, so i sat at the bar. Restaurant had a few customers maybe 2 tables max. Ordered a Tom Collins, stumped the bartender. Was under whelmed by my lunch the pear brie appetizer and the seasonal rissotto. Nothing spectacular. The only downfall is that indoor seating was a long wait so we opted to eat outside and the chairs/tables are not sturdy enough to be actively cutting a steak on. The food and service here is excellent. I do however have some suggestions for the owner/manager of this fine establishment. It appears that Gardina's is trying for an upscale fine dining vibe. Maybe gastropub? With that in mind: 1: Trade the paper napkins for cloth. 2: Dress code for the waitstaff. Gardina's T-shirt's are fine....pair them with khaki slacks, shorts, skirt, capris.... Doesn't matter. The current mish mash of denim doesn't work. 3. Trade the plastic greenery for fresh flowers or even potted succulents. The crab cakes were the best I've had in about 10 years. The flatbread was fantastic...love the crust! Specifically saved room for the raspberry torte...and happy we did. It was scrumptious. The flavors, textures and presentation on everything was very good. Make the few changes/additions, adjust pricing accordingly and this will be a top notch place for a relaxing, upscale evening. Small menu - authentic cuisine. Very reasonably priced. We were a little shocked how affordable it was. Great craft cocktails. Bourbon selection was almost all "high test" alcohol content. Risotto and halibut were amazing. BRaised beef ravioli very rich but very good. Bruschetta is not great and doesn't fit with how wonderful everything else was. Sort of a weird menu. Part American, part Italian. I usually have hesitation when it comes to places that feature two different cuisines that aren't modern fusion. But since my parents were paying and had dined here before and enjoyed it, I figured I keep such misgivings to myself. And I was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. I opted for the soup with my entree instead of the salad, even though my parents had the salad and it looked good for a pile of rabbit food. However, the lobster bisque, not sure if it was soup of the day, probably was, was really good. It actually tasted like lobster. So, it was either homemade broth or they found a supplier who actually sells lobster broth that tastes like lobster. Either way, I was expecting only a hint of lobster from it, like when ordering clam chowder with barely any clam meat and only a hint of clam flavor. For my entree I ordered the shrimp prosciutto fettuccine. Overall, it was much better than the previous pasta dish I had eating out. Though, I should've done an add-on of more shrimp to balance it out a little better. My only niggling complaints were that the prosciutto would've been an even better textural experience if it had been crisped up a bit more. And I think I would've preferred the garlic herb sauce from another pasta dish on the menu instead of the white wine sauce it came with. However, as I told my mother, the combination of shrimp, fettuccine, and garlic is overplayed, and I think that might be why they did the wine sauce instead. Still, it was really good and I wasn't disappointed in the least. A very good place to dine in a city filled with chain restaurants. read more

Went to Gardena's when visiting Oshkosh from San Jose, CA. It's somewhere between American and Italian food, all done so well. I was with my family and everyone loved their meal. Good ambience, good food, good pricing for the economy these days. An unexpected atmosphere in Oshkosh

So walking into this place, the ambiance is very chill and aesthetically pleasing, but it's a "seat yourself" kind of place where, if you've never been before, like me, you feel a little confused as to where you should sit. Once I sat, it took the waitress a few minutes to come bring me a menu and water, but overall the service was great and she brought my food one dish after the other. My appetizer, the pear and prosciutto, was delicious. I just wish I tasted the pear and not just cheese and ham (it was definitely not prosciutto). The cheddar broccoli soup was delicious as well. When I got my main course, the chicken shawarma bowl, it looked amazing. But to my disappointment, when I started eating, there was no flavor. It was just a ton of chickpeas, minimal rice, and I was extremely underwhelmed by the entire thing. I think the cooks need to start tasting their food or someone else needs to taste the food before it's put out because there was no flavor to the entire dish at all, I didn't even finish it. read more

I've been to Gardina's 6 or 7 times now and I am never anything but "eh" about the place. Food is nothing special, which makes it overpriced. Convenient if you're going to a show at the Grand or an event at the Howard, but otherwise, there are better places. read more

The food was very good. For an appetizer I ordered bruschetta. It was warm and fresh and DELICIOUS! I loved the red wine salmon. The Braised lamb with lemon pistachio pesto Garganelli was great too. This place is in a world of its own. Very romantic and quaint. Great special occasion or anniversary meal place. Go when it's not peak time or you'll wait 40 mins for a table. We went 6:30 pm on Friday night and waited. The restaurant is connected to a wine and specialty beer store so you can browse and if you find the perfect wine there is a $10 corking fee if you want to being it to the table. The food was sooooo good. I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for beginner. Tasted freshly made and the warm pita chips were a bonus. My husband ordered the chicken avocado pizza and I ordered the Brie and pear panini with turkey. Both were great. The pizza was light, and flavorful. My panini was perfect. Last I ordered a specialty drink called Chai love fall. When it was served it looked like some was missing and it was supposed to have a cinnamon stick. When the waitress came back I told her I loved the taste of the drink but when you buy an $8 drink you expect it to at lest be in a full glass with the garnishments advertised. She took it off my bill and apologized. I couldn't believe it. I can't wait to go back So I came back and was not disappointed. We sat at the bar and Heidi was so great. Serving a room full of people. Joyfully. And engaging with us and our food at the bar is always a skill. My favorite place in Oshkosh and plan to be duchess soon. read more
