I was visiting my Mom in Oshkosh and she recommended hitting Parnell's for broasted chicken. My Mom knows all the places with good food for a great price. The place isn't fancy so be prepared for a bar that serves some pretty tasty food at amazing prices. They make a good bloody mary that my Mom and her friend imbibed which made me giggle. The chicken is incredible and you can't beat the pricing. Portions are generous and the service is prompt. Parnell's is solid and would best be described as inexpensive tasty bar food. Come back to actually eat this time. Mid week so we didn't have a weekend crowd, we picked an open spot in the dining room. Judy was our waitress and came over to find out what we wanted. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and their famous broasted chicken. And boy was it good! My husband had a bloody and was satisfied with it. It was not over the top amazing and it was not terrible. Sunday's this place boasts to be a great place for bloodys and chicken. I think I will be back for both. Franko is an exceptional bartender. We were only in one other time with friends and he remembered what we drank! Vodka and whisky. There is no leaky roof here. The drinks are stiff enough to still be refreshing. I absolutely love Parnells! The food is amazing and great prices, the staff is all so friendly, the regulars absolutely love coming here, and they have great deals and monthly raffle drawings. You cannot go wrong trying one of their specials or coming for their amazing Friday Fish Fry. Though if you're coming on Friday or another busy night be prepared for a wait. It can get pretty packed inside, but this is an amazing restaurant and people come back because of how good it is. Personally I recommend the unlimited beer battered haddock on Friday's or the prime rib sandwiches are also really good. I tend to always pair the meal with their clam chowder, which is heaven in a cup, or some mozzarella nuggets/onion rings. The crowds are usually very diverse, though sometimes a bit of an older crowd, but there are amazing stories to be heard and people to meet. You can't go wrong giving this place a try! read more

First time in Wisconsin, was encouraged to try the Friday night fish fry. After scouting out a few places, landed here based on the pics. The place was hopping when we got here. While waiting, we had a Captain Morgan with coke and an Amber Bock, possibly the best thing we had. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and a perch dinner with roasted potatoes. The mushrooms were perfectly browned and the batter was good. Unfortunately, the mushrooms were obviously frozen and some had not cooked all the way through. The perch was perfectly browned and good. The roasted potatoes may have been the best part of dinner. I have some favorite pubs that serve delicious meals, this was slightly above average. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. Note, the best fish'n'chips I ever had was in the Orcas Island in Washington. That's the standard for everything else. I recently had fish'n'chips at a reputable restaurant which I would rate a 1 star. My father-in-law, who lives in MO, makes some of the best fresh fried lake trout which I'd rate 4 1/2 stars. I give this place 3 stars instead of 2, because the staff are nice and personable enough to warrant another visit if I ever find myself back in my hometown. I came here with family over the holidays during their Friday fish fry. I ordered grilled salmon with vegetables to offset the gallons of wine I'd been drinking over the holiday season. The fish was way overcooked. It wasn't burned, but it was incredibly dry and required a year's worth of chewing to get it down. There's no where for people waiting for a table to sit, and it's pretty clear this place gets consistently packed on a Friday night. So, in addition to the noise level being comparable to standing right next to a 747's prop engine, I also have a bunch of people ramming into me from behind as I sit at the bar. Crappiest impromptu massage ever. The staff behind the bar were really fun to talk to, and incredibly attentive. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here during a busy time, and the place didn't blow me over with amazing. They will treat you well, though. As a quickly learned not long after moving here, Friday fish fry is a quintessential Wisconsin tradition, along with cheese curds and bar dice. As such, I have visited dozens of different establishments for this purpose since moving here. That said, this place is only exceeded in quality by one other joint, and Parnell's is far cheaper than my #1`too. So what to expect? Outstandingly crisp fish with all the typical accompaniments. Everyone I know talks about how great the cole slaw is here, but since I hate cole slaw, I really can't comment. For me, bring on the fish, a side of fries, and a bottle of malt vinegar and I am in heaven. If you are trying to watch what you are eating, they do have a baked fish option as well. The baked does taste good, but it sucks when you come in with some buddys who are devouring fried plates and you are stuck with veggies and baked Cod. Especially when you know how good the fried is, I find this torturous. Since how great this place is for Fish is hardly a mystery to locals, If you are stopping in here on Friday night itself, I recommend going here early as it gets packed in a big hurry. read more

Let me start by saying I created a Yelp account just to review the experience I had here tonight. As you can tell by the ratings (and by my glowing review), this place is simply one of the best in the area. So let me set the stage: I came here with a business associate on a Friday night. We knew it would be busy because of the ubiquitous Wisconsin fish fry tradition. I have lived in the area for some time but had never given Parnell's a try. We arrived around 6pm and the place was already packed. The location is sort of on the outskirts of Oshkosh on Lake Winnebago but there was scarcely a parking space to be found. Stepping inside we were told the wait would be about half an hour. We decided to stick it out and hope for the best. As we mulled about, an elderly woman waved me over. "First time to Parnell's?" she asked. I replied that it was and she walked me through the procedure: ask the bartenders or waitresses for a number--you don't put your name on a list or something, just make sure you grab this or you won't be seated. While you wait, you can peruse the menu and order beforehand (more on this later). Also while you wait, order one of their great old fashions (excellent on their own, but be sure to get it with the cocktail mushrooms! I normally hate mushrooms but these were really good). Mind you, this woman showing me the ropes I had never seen or spoken to in my life! Typical Wisconsin hospitality. Along those lines, every single bartender checked up on us to make sure we were set on drinks and chatted us up. Some of the other patrons were playing bar dice with them too. Just really good and friendly service. By the time our table was ready, I did not feel like 30 minutes had passed. As we got to our table and set our coats down, I turned around to find that our waitress had already brought our order--we hadn't even sat down yet! This is a new personal record for service: a zero minute turnaround time in the traditional sense. Unbelievable. And of course I haven't even gotten to the food. We both got the medium sized lake perch (3 butterflies) with the croquettes and coleslaw (+ rye bread). The fish was simply outstanding--fried but in no way greasy. Tasted very fresh and was still piping hot from the kitchen. Same with the rich croquettes. Even the slaw was light, flavorful, and delicious. My associate and I agreed: the only thing wrong was that we didn't order more. So there you have it. Parnell's has a reputation in Oshkosh that is well deserved. Go with confidence, you will not be disappointed! Of course it will be busy...but that's what should convince you that it is THIS good. We will definitely be back. read more

This place is awful. We came on a Friday night when there wasn't a line and it wasn't very crowded. No one looked at us or greeted us when we walked in, although the waitress was very nice once she connected with us 30 minutes later. The food was awful...undercooked, hard potato wedges, just a lot of breading, 3 small pieces of perch with the plate, dry wilted and uninspired salad...everyone got home and said they felt gross. I asked if the salmon was farmed and they couldn't tell me. (It was.) Overall, it was expensive and very poor quality, in a dingy, cheap environment. No, I've been to my share of WI taverns and fish fry's, and I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Ugh! read more

Casual dining.....excellent food! A favorite that has become a regular stop for me and my family whenever we come to town. Never disappointed be it sea food, broasted chicken, prime rib, walleye, haddock, but my ultimate favorite is the perch. Often order to take out if want to avoid the crowds on busy Friday nights when want to share with my Mother and visiting in town. Staff always friendly and courteous. Service fast and efficient. Recently had a group party and everyone raved about the food and the happy hour specials. If you go on Saturday you can walk right in and the food is still quite good, but no batter fried Haddock which is delicious. Order the prime rib or the chicken. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because it's been around forever, and I grew up a few miles away and have had some good meals there (though the last was probably 5 years ago). But based on my recent visit I'd give it no stars. We went in, a party of three. Place was reasonably busy, but not crazy and lots of open tables. I remembered they have some kind of numbering system to put in an order, but we got zero greeting from any of the bartenders or servers so stood kind of baffled, till I finally asked if we could take one of the open tables. I was told curtly by a server that we could, and that she'd be "right over." We sat down and were ignored for about the next 15 minutes till we finally just left. Couldn't even make eye contact. And while we were there, the servers were happily chatting with, and serving, what seemed to be their regulars. So if you're a regular, this place is probably great. But they treated us occasionals like we were invisible. I'm hoping this was an aberration, because the place has such a history in the area, but I sure don't plan to visit again on my frequent trips to the area. Lot of other great supper clubs in the area that do better in welcoming customers. read more

A very average dining experience. We arrived shortly after 5:00pm on a Saturday and the place was packed. We did get seated in a timely manner but our waitress was less than attentive. Took about 10 minutes to order drinks and another turn for the waitress to take our order. I ordered the tenderloin done medium and lobster bites. When my steak arrived it was charred on the outside, not seared as a steak should be to retain the juices. It was overlooked barely pink inside, dry and tough. I question whether the cut was really tenderloin as it had the dense texture of sirloin. I would have sent it back but I was hungry and the waitress never returned to inquire how things were...guess thats why they served Aus jus on the side. Lobster bites were as expected. My wife had a burger and she said it was good with a generous serving of cheese with bacon. The salad was good, croutons were obviously left over bread toasted without any noticeable seasoning. Baked potato arrived luke warm hardly warm enough to melt butter. I've had fish here before and it was pretty good. Lesson learned, they don't know how to do steak and waitress really did not take care of us..... read more

I don't often give 1 star but this place deserves it. We visited this restaurant during the Oshkosh Airshow. When we entered the place we were given a number by someone behind the bar with no explanation. After waiting for nearly an 40 minutes (with open tables visible) we were handed menu's and told to order while we were standing in a corner. Baffled, we ordered, expecting to get seated immediately. Instead we were left standing for another 20 minutes until the food was ready, then seated. Our salads were on the table, but no server was seen for another 15 minutes, when we flagged down a bus person who got us water. The food finally came and was poorly prepared. My wife and I had the grilled whitefish which was undercooked and poorly seasoned, not very tasty. My friend had a ribeye steak that was thin and over cooked. The baked potato was undercooked, and the coleslaw was about what you might expect from a fast food place. My other friend had a burger, which was tiny and bad tasting. The service continued to be poor and the server was arrogant. Neither the experience, food or value were good. read more
