Years ago we relocated to Oshkosh from a much larger city. My husband is Italian. To our disappointment we could not find true Italian restaurant with authentic Italian cuisine. So needless to say we were elated when we first heard about the opening of The Truffle Pig. Almost a year later, after the initial opening, we have made the Truffle Pig our restaurant of choice in the Fox Valley region. Reasons: Friendly and hospitable Maitre de'hotel (Master of the House). Knowledgeable and accommodating wait staff. Staff are educated on the origins and preparation of Italian cuisine. The Grand Chef-Ottimo ! As for the cuisine, I recommend the Caesar Salad and Sea Bass. My husband enjoys the Spaghettoni Cacio e Pepe (served table side) and The Fiorentina. Oh yes, I also recommend the Risotto, which is always a treat. The beverage list is extensive. If you are looking for a truly Italian experience, then this is it. Thanks for reading ! read more

I visited this restaurant last week with friends. Located in a historical downtown Oshkosh building, it has an upscale feel. However, I found it to be very loud as a result of the high ceiling and open dining room. There are several other areas within the restaurant which can be closed off and would definitely not magnify the voices of the many people dining in the establishment. We had reservations and were seated promptly upon our arrival. I arrived somewhat bothered as I had learned that had we not been able to find a third couple to join us, we would have been charged $25 a piece for our friends who could not come due to illness. In Oshkosh, I find this policy off putting; as it certainly isn't a metropolitan market. The table we were sat at made any kind of conversation amongst our group difficult. Our group was six and the table was too large. It had chairs on three sides and a couch on the other. Given an opportunity, I'd have liked a booth or a regular table. Our service was good. However, we were billed as a group without an offer of being billed by couple. Definitely not the fault of our servers, but another thing I didn't appreciate. Throughout the meal, servers were very timely in returning to the table to accommodate our party. Drinks, appetizers and salads were all very good. My dining partner had Lasagna Bolognese. It was a nice sized portion. However, it lacked flavor. I had the casoncelli alla bergamasca. It was very salty but was nice sized and matched the description in the menu. Another dining partner had spaghettoni cacio e pepe prepared tableside. The other diners did not comment on their food, which led me to believe it was just okay. The only dining partner raving about their food was our friend who had the grilled yellowfin tuna. I was able to sample a bite and agreed it was excellent. We finished our meal with a nice crème brûlée dessert. Overall, it was nice. Much too pricey to make it a regular dining spot for me; however, it seemed like a place appropriate of a special occasion meal. read more

Our reservation was for 7:15pm on a Thursday and we didn't get seated until 7:48pm. They also wouldn't let us into the bar area and didn't offer up the inside seating area either. The hostesses were not friendly, not smiling. They get an F-. They didn't check in with the few groups who were waiting to update them. We also weren't allowed in the bar area for a drink before dinner either. We would have loved to sit at their pizza bar and have an appetizer and drink if we knew it would be that long of a wait. We were starving by the time we got to sit down. The service was amazing. The server was very friendly and knew the menu well. The drink menu is a bit overwhelming for sure. They also only bring one per table and then came back two minutes later asking for our drink orders. The drink menu is like 9 pages long so for three of us to read the drink menu wasn't feasible. I just went with her suggested Cabernet. My friend tried ordering their truffle pig pizza but we got their truffle pig salad. We said something to both our server and the person who delivered our pizza and they both just kind of chuckled along with us. We didn't have access to the menu then to go back and see if it was our mistake or theirs. The salad was delicious though and the Margherita pizza was delicious but it was soggy in the middle so the cook put too much sauce on for the delicate dough. But great flavor. The wine was okay but for $20 a glass I have had better. Maybe it wasn't the wine for me. They only had one selection of truffles that evening. No salt on the tables but they offer you fresh ground black pepper and Parmesan. My lamb chops needed no salt they were seasoned perfectly. I'm a salt lover too. The tiramisu was okay I've had better. Their affogato is by far the way to go for a nice light dessert. Overall it was a great experience and I will try them again. You are paying for the experience as well. Just know you can't be in a rush-plan several hours. I'm also really upset they made us wait so long and didn't let us into the bar. I understand, not wanting to have an overcrowded restaurant and not wanting to rush the people who are there so I'm not really sure what happened because other reviewers talked about being able to get a drink beforehand. I felt like we weren't cool enough for the hostesses so we got set on the back burner. read more

Che figata! I've been to Italy twice, but that's all the Italian you're going to get from me here. Our family of 9 celebrated our Christmas early and chose Truffle Pig as our official Christmas Dinner. My parents live in the area and have been here twice already and raved about it. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. Pastas, sea bass, calamari...delicious with perfect seasoning. The only thing that was not perfect was the lentil salad-the rather large globs of gorgonzola made eating it difficult. It still was delicious. The decor is gorgeous. Even the women's bathroom is stunning. One small issue for our party was the couch/bench was rather low so the shorter people were uncomfortable. Regarding some reviews about the slow service. Try not to think of it as slow. Think of it as how Europeans experience a meal. It's an event, a time to enjoy conversation and linger over the meal. read more

The atmosphere is very pretty! I think this is the best part of the restaurant. The cocktail menu feels overdone, the ingredients are unfamiliar even for someone who enjoys upscale dining. The first two drinks are gin drinks, and even the server could not explain the differences to me. So I ended up with wine! It made the menu feel more confusing than inviting. The food is good, but I think they can take the richness down a few levels. It's very cream sauce heavy and you can't enjoy the homemade pasta when the sauce is too much. The first time I was there, I had an artichoke ravioli and the ravioli was two firm and just not great. This time I had Cacio e Pepe and watching them do it in the cheese wheel is really fun. But it's way too rich and the pepper did not come through at all. The calamari is delicious and done perfect perfectly. The Caesar salad had too much dressing. Maybe this is a Wisconsin thing with the richness ‍. read more

What an amazing find in Oshkosh! The ambience of this restaurant was wonderful. The white table cloths, high ceilings and spacious dining area, combined with a highly experienced and professional wait staff made it a lovely night out. The food was the winner, though. We started with a classic caesar salad, which included delicious white anchovies. We had a Neapolitan style pizza which was beautifully baked throughout -- many leave the center soggy, but that wasn't the case here. One person in our party had Maltagliati de Vitello pasta and praised the combination of flavors and textures. We didn't feel rushed even though the restaurant was hopping. And I believe it was the owner who stopped by every table to see how people were doing. That was a nice touch. Would definitely come here again! read more

Fantastic experience. We made the decision to eat here based on a number of people's recommendation. It was last minute so we ended up with a 5PM reservation, which was kind of early but ended up working out. Service was impeccable from the host who seated us up through the GM who spent several minutes catch up with us. Tried a few different wines that were all terrific. Had a pizza and a pasta dish, both good but the pasta really stood out. Tirramsu for dessert was light and fluffy but next time will try something else. Perfect setting for a special meal. Oh, don't miss the bathroom, it is special. read more

I'm an Oshkosh native, but live in Chicago (with a husband from Italy). To say that I've been anxious to find a chance to have dinner here while visiting home is an understatement. Both me and my husband have been DESPERATE to try this spot. Well, we finally did. And I'm speechless. Thank you, Truffle Pig, for bringing this wonderful experience to my home town. read more

Beautiful place. Tried a little bit of everything and wasnt impressed by the food. Great service (besides giving you bread)! Sadly the food wasnt as good as youd hope. To start there is complimetary bread but they give you one tiny piece at a time and take forever to come back. There is also no oil or butter on the table for it. Meats and olive appetizer: seemed like cured meat i can get at festival. The olive brine they added didnt taste good. Margarita Pizza: dry, sauce was good Cacio e pepe: finished table side. This was a big dissapointment. No flavor at all. They really need to put salt on the table if theyre gonna serve this. Manila clam pasta: truly flavorless and the clams were very chewy. Inedible. The flourless chocolate cake: how did they make it dry? Not good sadly. Gelato was fine. read more

I really wanted to give this five stars and if there was a half option I would have went with 4.5. My friend and I were here visiting from out of town. It was a last minute decision to stop by and we didn't have a reservation. They were able to squeeze us in and we only waited about 15 minutes which was great. The place was packed. We started at the bar. The bartender was a bit overwhelmed and must of been training someone because it did take a bit to get our wine. We both ordered the rose. It was good. Our waitress Norah was excellent. Told us about the menu and how it just switched to the Autumn menu. Pointed out some new items. We started with the baked burrata. Unfortunately it left a lot to be desired. My picture of it wasn't the best but you'll see it's more like tomato soup. We weren't even sure how to eat it. It also needed a little salt or seasoning. The bread that came with it was delicious. It would have been better if it was not fully baked soupy. I ordered tableside spaghetti cacio. The whole experience of them bringing the cheese wheel and mixing the pasta in is so much fun. It was really good but I had to have our waitress bring more pepper for it. My friend ordered dolce vita pizza with the pear. It was good but like everything else needed a little more spice or something. Lastly we ordered the crème brule. It was fantastic. Out of everything we had that was the best. My only complaint is the lack of salt and pepper shakers on the tables. We agreed that everything we had needed just a little more salt or pepper. Overall if im back in the area I will definitely come back. It was such a cute place! read more

Not impressed. The service and food were not up to par for the caliber of restaurant this is. It's loud. It's very hard to have a conversation. The marble floors and nothing to absorb sound makes it an echo chamber. Waitress was very soft spoken and we had a very hard time hearing her. She either needs to learn to project her voice, or find a different job. She also could have been more attentive. Everything is Ala cart. Which isn't my biggest complaint. But it's not really how NE Wisconsin operates. Someone messed up and my green beans were forgotten. So when I finally got them, I was half done with my veal (which was excellent). The beans were rushed and not fully cooked. Flavor was excellent, just not done all the way. My wife's sea bass was just ok. Not great. A little bit fishy. And of course nothing came with it. Because Ala cart. Then, instead of taking the green beans off the bill, she asked our friends (we were in the restroom) if there was something she could do. Really? It wasn't their bill. Just take the beans off the bill. Don't ask. Just automatically make it right. The crustinis ratio on our appetizers didn't make any sense either. 2 for our appetizer and 3 for our friends. Both should have been 4. We won't be back. We've had much better experiences in other restaurants for considerably less money. read more

Black summer truffle shaved table side was the highlight of the meal. The Insalata Truffle Pig was so fresh, the artichoke is cooked perfectly and its' nuttiness helped balance out the tartness from the lemon vinaigrette. Ambiance was amazing. Loved the bar and the huge photo from "Roman Holiday". Drinks and options at the bar were great. You can eat at the bar or bar area. Very secluded bar area. Dining area and food was fantastic. Service was excellent. The asst manager was stopping by to see everyone. White linen service. I had the Osso Bucco special and my wife had the risotto. Both were good as well as the dessert. Will definitely be back. Pizza looked very good and made there fresh. Even a nice spot for a casual pizza and wine dinner read more

I brought my wife here for her birthday, and neither one of us has been here before, but let me start off by saying that this was not a meal; it was an experience. This establishment has a fantastic atmosphere, and the staff are exceptional and care about all the little details that really make you feel special. The pasta is divine, the salmon was so light and crispy, the Creme Catalana and the birthday flan were superb. Very good restaurant. Good pizza, good pasta, highly recommend this place for Italian food if you're in the area

Fine Dining done right. The food is absolutely delicious and it feels as though you are walking in the doors to a place that doesn't belong where it is. In the very best way. Authentic Italian food and great service. I'm writing this as they are just in the first days of being open and while the staff are still getting warmed up - they were great. Asked for recommendations on nearly everything and was given great descriptions and took every recommendation. The ambiance?? Not a single detail was skimped. They really did a fabulous job of ensuring every little things was done well...not just done but done with the upmost care and attention to detail. Even the restrooms are beautiful and you can tell they took care into how they decorated and picked out colors and lighting to make it immersive. I had the Casoncelli and it was perfect! The taste was on point and the portion was exactly right. My dining friend ordered the Veal and it was very tender and the housemade chips were excellent. Though...maybe it's midwestern of me, I would have enjoyed a bit of sour cream with it but that's a personal preference. We had the Tiramisu and Creme Brule for dessert. You can absolutely tell that it was made super fresh because they were both so creamy. We even had decaf coffee to end the evening and that coffee was pleasantly smooth. In regards to price point - I don't think it's any more than what you'd expect to see at a steakhouse or similar place so I think it's fair but for this area, definitely a place for special occasions or just nice date nights or girls nights. Would also be great for corporate dinners. Cannot wait to go back again and to share with as many as I can. read more

Went here for valentines day with my fiance and we're already going back for more on our anniversary. The ambiance was beautiful and romantic, the service was very attentive and everyone was nice. The food was absolutely incredible. We got the salmon carpaccio Valentine's Day special which was amazing, the lamb chops were the best I've ever had and the hand made pasta was to die for. We also got the pistachio cake with raspberry frosting - my fiance and I aren't big cake eaters but we were scraping the plate. My fiance also ordered the godfather drink and he LOVED it (he's typically pretty picky with his cocktails). I am so excited to celebrate our five year anniversary here! Incredibly exceptional from start to finish. The food is out of this world delicious. The attentive waitress we had 6/18/26 was top notch and classy. Ambiance and attention to detail... superb. Hands down one of the best classy Italian meals I've had.

I brought my daughter to Truffle Pig for her birthday dinner. I was excited to bring her after having a wonderful dinner there last spring. Our waiter, Cameron C, was fantastic. He was informative and attentive. The ambiance is romantic and decor is beautiful. The disappointment came with the entrees. Both were overly salted, to the point where I chose to not eat mine. I didn't send it back because I didn't want to embarrass my daughter. I found out on the way home, her dinner was way too salty also. I read other reviews stating there was a lack of salt. Unfortunately, it seems to have went in the other direction. My daughter ordered the Maltagliati. The portion size was appropriate for the price, but the presentation was not appealing. Green pasta in a chunky brown sauce. I had the Ravioli Truffle pig. As cute as the pig shapes were, the very small portion size and lack of filling, did not justify the $38.00 price tag. I knew that this was not your average Oshkosh restaurant and my past experience confirmed that. I was looking forward to having a place to go for special occasions, but now might have to keep looking. read more

Truffle Pig - Cacio e Pepe. - Wine Bars Near Me - Oshkosh, Wisconsin

The restaurant is gorgeous, with comfortable seating, soft lighting, and a beautiful mural of Italy. The specialty cocktails were exceptional. The calamari appetizer was really good, and the shrimp included in it was the best part. The minestrone soup was tasteless- mostly just a watery broth with scarce white beans and cabbage (probably frozen and thawed), with fresh green peas oddly added to it. I was surprised they served it, honestly. It definitely needs to be upgraded or replaced. The steak dinner was very good- tender, and the truffle dipping oil added good flavor. The pasta was also good, but the portions were very small. They should also have garlic bread- was only given small slices of Italian bread, dry (no oil or butter). Didn't see any garlic bread on the menu. Tiramisu was good for dessert, but not very sweet. Overall, it was decent. The service was quite slow with bringing out the entrees. Worth trying again at a later date to see if it improves. read more

I just finished dinner with my family and had a bizarre experience. We were celebrating a family member's retirement, for which he received a gift card from his co-workers. When we paid, we also sent back a separate credit card to cover the amount over and above what was on the gift card. This is pretty standard with gift cards - if the amount on the card doesn't cover the meal, you simply put the overage on the credit card. Our waiter returned the gift card and said that there was still an amount left over on the card and that the credit card wasn't needed. We signed for our bill and lingered for another 20-30 minutes to finish our conversation. On the way home, the general manager called me and said that there was an excess balance on our account that needed to be paid. He requested that I pay over the phone for the amount still owed on our bill. He proceeded to blame our waitress (who was wonderful) for the mistake. He then insisted that I wait on the phone for 10 minutes while he ran my credit card information. I felt like I was being accused of dining and dashing, when this should've been resolved internally before we even left the building. Especially when we anticipated the issue and sent a card back to specifically avoid a situation like this. If this were any other restaurant, I would normally chalk it up to a simple mistake but this is a fine dining restaurant that cannot achieve a task as simple as processing payment. I am embarrassed for them to have to call and beg for something that never should have happened. And I am appalled that the general manager tried to throw our waitress under the bus for his own failings. I'm a regular at the other T.J. Rodgers restaurants, and this is by far the worst experience I've had at one of them. I won't be returning to Truffle Pig, and I strongly encourage you to take your money elsewhere if you do not wish to be shaken down on the phone after your dinner. FOOD: Excellent quality, small portions. SERVICE: Our waitress was excellent, but the other servers (water, bread, etc.) seemed confused and preoccupied when servicing the table. ATMOSPHERE: We enjoyed the ambiance and our table, but the decor (specifically the faux-vaulted ceilings) felt out of place with the beautiful floor and historic building. read more
