We had an excellent meal at the Fork & Dagger. We sat at the bar and were greeted with a smile by our bartender. We were blown away by their extensive drink menu so it was hard to decide, but we settled on PB&J old fashioneds which were sweet but good. For dinner we shared a cheery and goat cheese salad along with the pork schnitzel. Both were delicious. As we were dining the owner introduced himself and gave us a tour of the bourbon bar downstairs. We will definitely be back to experience that and to have another great meal! read more

Thank you, Yelpers, for directing us to this gem. Delicious food in huge portions, and reservations to boot. We're sure to be back the next time we're in the area. Bar at the front, and hostess and dining at the back. Fantastic ever-so-lightly-fried cheese curds (with a nice long cheese pull), with sweet lingonberry dipping sauce. Cheese curds are a must get! Poutine fries were tasty with a sweet bbq-esque meat sauce, and a hefty portion size. However those cheese curds with the more unique lingonberry sauce stole the appetizer show. (The first time we had them, we immediately had to order another round--leftovers were still tasty, though eating them fresh is by far the way to go to get the full cheese curd impact.) Cod-father ($22) has a similar very light, airy fry to the 2 huge fish sticks, and fish is super tender and well cooked--not at all overdone, which seems to be a rarity with many a fried fish. Generally the winner of the entrees we tried. Pork schnitzel ($32) was tender and had a panko breading, which was nice and crispy, and was topped with a good mushroom gravy (same gravy that's put on their panko chicken and shrimp pasta). This was served with salted green beans and an interesting baked spatzle (good, but I prefer typical spatzle that has more of a pasta texture without any crunch from baking). Panko chicken ($22) was ok, though absolutely needed the gravy for flavor. Pork schnitzel is the way to go between these 2 dishes, though if you're trying to be a touch healthier, can get the chicken with extra gravy. Jambalaya special was very spicy and a popular dish to order based on our observation of fellow, local diners, however if you've had jambalaya in any cities (much less anywhere somewhat authentic), def do yourself a favor and select an alternate dish. This was probably the worst dish we tried. Burger was huge and juicy, hubby loved it and finished every last bit. Overall, easily the best restaurant in the area. I see how it's a destination for in-state foodies. We're fortunate to have discovered it. In fact we were so thoroughly impressed with our first visit, we immediately made another reservation for the following night and brought my hubby's racing team along to spread the food joy. Good selection of beer on tap. Call for reservations. Buy a "round of coffee for the kitchen, $10" if you like the food (we did!). Just be sure to stick with American/German eats, and pass on anything that's perhaps more adventurous. read more

Excellence is all I can say to describe this place. I've been here numerous times and the food and drinks have always been nothing short of perfect. Our server was just so attentive, sweet and knew the menu well. The drink menu is so extensive, you can't not find something! The noise was bad at one time, but I see there has been acoustic tiles added and it's made a huge difference. The restrooms were spotless! The restaurant is clean! We just discovered the bourbon bar in the basement. The ambience down there is amazing. The drinks are creative, the food is very fresh and tasty. We tried the glazed pork, cod, panko chicken, cheese curds, and a few other meals here. All excellent. This place is a gem. Sufficient parking. Great ice cream drinks, great dessert selection. While we love this place for a special meal, our last visit was slightly disappointing. We ordered the soup of the day, which was an overly salted chicken and wild rice soup. But the real disappointment came with the specials we ordered. The scallop Alfredo was spaghetti noodles and tiny scallops, and the rack of lamb, while grilled well, had very little chimichurri and the huge disappointment of dried out broasted red potatoes and seasonal veggies. Some thought and attention could have been made for the side to be appetizing and at the very least seasoned for a $44 dish. We should have gotten the poutine, schnitzel and cod, rather than trying something different. Be wary of specials. read more

Love this place. My friend and I from Sheboygan were doing a plant nursery run and arranged our trip to coincide with dinner at the Fork & Daggger in Kiel. We ordered off of the Monday Apps and Taps menu and shared what I believe was my first taste of alligator with their alligator bites and unique dipping sauce. I have been to this wonderful restaurant many times. I have had the Cod Father 3 times. It's so good. A larger portion,crispy and delicious. The pastas are incredible. Done to perfection. My rigatoni with Italian sausage was so good. I am from an area that excels in Italian food and I have yet to find anything that compares to it. But my Rigatoni and Italian sausage was perfection. We were entertaining friends from out of town on Saturday night and decided to have dinner at Fork & Dagger as we have been to the restaurant numerous times, including hosting a large table for my husband's birthday, and have had relatively positive experiences. Unfortunately, 3 out of the 6 entrees we ordered were (or became) INEDIBLE. Two of the inedible items, Prime Rib and Halibut, were featured specials. The Prime Rib was to be served Medium, but it was UNCOOKED and SO GRIZZLED that it could not be cut with a steak knife. The Halibut was overdone and dried out (risotto was excellent). The NY Strip was ordered Medium, but served Blue. These issues are all easily remedied, which is why I am always confounded if a restaurant chooses not to fix their mistakes and make it the customer's problem as the hill to die on. Given our recent experience, I really don't expect this place to remain in business much longer which probably makes this review moot, but the ownership may want to consider the following: DON'T condescendingly "serversplain" and argue with your customer about Prime Rib temperature. You never know who you are speaking with and they may know more about proper meat temperatures than you (and maybe more than the person who incorrectly prepared it). DO apologize and offer to either remake the item or remove the item entirely from the bill. I prefer the former and so should the restaurant because it shows that the Cook ("Chef" is overzealous) can properly prepare the item which makes me more than willing to give the place another try. DON'T be snarky, rude and unapologetic and remove 1/2 of the price of one of the 3 entrees and call it a day after taking the plate back to the kitchen and MICROWAVING the entire thing as your way of solving the problem. Oh so close! Nearly every 5-star box was checked off. The food: yes. Drinks: yes. Service: yes. Ambience: almost. We ate later on a Friday night on a bit of a whim. Discovered they've been open just a year. It was busy but not packed tight. First impression was your typical Wisconsin bar (but cleaner). We checked with the hostess (you have to walk beyond the bar) and she thought a table would be available in 30 minutes. We found a place at the bar where drink menus were laid out. Don't expect 100 beers to choose from but for a smaller place like this the selection was excellent. I didn't see on the menu where flights were offered but I know they must be as flight boards were hanging behind the bar. Someone did their homework when choosing the beers and our bartender seemed knowledgable (owner?). This wasn't your typical Wisconsin craft beer selection. They offered a very unique selection of various styles from around the U.S. to include ciders, sours and even mead. Quite a few on tap and more in bottles. I'm a beer guy and this list was seriously good. There also must have been a dozen bombers; something you don't see much of outside of a specialty liquor store. They also had a nice selection of wines and specialty house drinks. During our drink/conversation the manager checked on us and told us our table would be ready soon and a few minutes later it was. I didn't put a watch on it but it must of been close to the 30 minutes promised. The main dining room (you can eat in the bar room) was a singular open room with a large counter for the hostess. Lower ceilings and carpeted floor kept the potential noise in an open room to a minimum. There were a few high tables on one end, larger tables in the middle and smaller tables near the windows looking out to the parking lot. The tables and chairs were nicely built and heavy on being natural wood with "iron" furnishings. The decor was pleasant but lacked a singular style and being so open lacked any intimacy (I know, it's a restaurant). Ice water was waiting for us at the table (very nice touch). Utensils were fine. Napkins were "fancy paper". Our server was prompt, friendly, and courteous telling us the specials of the evening. The menu was just what I like: a smaller single page with starters, greens, and main courses clearly defined without being pretentious. It was a bit up-scale without being "high-brow" in terms of choices and the prices were very reasonable. It's not a large selection so the difficulty for us in choosing an entree is a credit to whomever put the menu together. We started with the seared scallops. I thought the amount of sauce was a bit weak and they were slightly undercooked but that's being picky. They were seared nicely and delicious. Of course my wife and I have the same tastes and we were immediately drawn to the dried cherry and goat cheese salad (with Salmon). It was perfect. The generous portion of salmon was hot, the goat cheese slightly melted, the smoked bacon crunchy, the candied walnuts sweet, the greens fresh and with the perfect amount of honey ginger vinaigrette drizzled throughout I can honestly say this was one of the best salads I've ever had. It also came in a choice of sizes which is not very common. I mentioned before that the prices were very reasonable and more-so considering the quality of food. The service was top-notch starting with the bartender, the manager checking on us and the wait staff. We were maybe on the tail-end of service that night but our food was quick to arrive at our table. We will definitely come back. Excellent food, great service, and terrific drink selections. The decor is, of course, a personal opinion. I only felt that this is the one area that maybe fell a little short and was out of place in comparison to the high level of the other characterizations. But please don't let my pompous opinion keep you from enjoying what this establishment has to offer! read more

Tonight was our 1st time at this fabulous place! Our lake neighbors dined there last evening and highly recommended it to us, so we went! So glad we did! We started our dining experience with the evening's special appetizer--crostini topped with smoked salmon, a delicious cheese, served with arugula and a bit of cucumber! I ordered the mussels starter as my entree. It was absolutely wonderful and huge! About 24 mussels with toasted crostini. My husband and I shared a blackberry, goat cheese salad(the evening's special)--excellent! My husband ordered the scallops with orecchiette pasta )evening's special--which he said was fabulous! Although we didn't have room for dessert, we stopped at the bar and decided upon an after dinner drink. LOL! I had a "chip shot" which was excellent (Baileys, Tuaca and coffee)! My husband had a Strawberry Baileys Shake--strawberries, ice cream, and Baileys strawberry cream. It was garnished beautifully! We will definitely be back here with family and friends! The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was nice. We walked in and had to ask what to do because there was no host or obvious instruction, which is always a knock but the bartender quickly helped us, so it wasn't a big deal. The menu is well priced and we felt the portions were a good value to the cost. Food quality was ok. My wife enjoyed her burger. I tried a bite of her burger and it was very good. The ciabatta was an odd choice for the burger, I would've preferred a brioche or potato bun and not have to deal with the dry crumble of a ciabatta but the overall sandwich was great! Great balance of sweet/savory flavors and hearty portions. Burger patty was medium with a nice crust on the meat from the flat iron. I ordered the poutine and the pork was nicely seasoned with a smoky, candied sweetness. The cheese curds were good but for both the poutine and the burger, the fries were an obvious frozen seasoned style fry and they weren't that great. I felt the low quality fry took away from the other positives of both entrees. The gravy for the poutine was sweet but heavy on the cornstarch but flavorful. Next time I would love to try the steak! Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend the restaurant. Fair prices, great portions and good flavor profiles. Our server, Jackie, was very pleasant! read more

Absolutely astounding. For a place out of the way, the food is some of the best I've ever come across in Wisconsin During an outing with my family to Elkhart Lake for Concours d'Elegance, we were absolutely starving and every business for miles was packed with folks! This included Fork & Dagger. However, this situation did not stop them from the impressive service and even more so food! We had waited 45 minutes to be seated, but when we finally were seen, it was the best food I had ever eaten. My father and his friend ordered a schnitzel, which blew their pants off. I myself got a burger and it was cooked to perfection- medium rare as requested. I hope to come back soon, and highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

It's taken me awhile to complete this review because I wanted it to a fair review. So here it is.. Where to begin? Well the first red flag should have been when I called to make my 5pm reservation, and was treated to a painful negotiation with a discourteous teenager. We were running late due the having to pickup my elderly in-laws, and I did the NORMAL courteously of letting the restaurant know we would be 10 minutes late, but of course the child host suggested we shouldn't brother coming at all. She kept repeating that we would have time to eat dinner. That should have been the second red flag about this place! So let's continue.. We arrive 5 mins late, the reservation was made for a party of four with one wheelchair accessible seat. Well as I expected they didn't prep the nessasry wheelchair seat, but they publicly re-enforced how we needed to hurry up and eat. This was starting to become the theme of the evening, which was became definitely apparent during table service. I began thinking this place must be pretty good, if they can afford to treat people like this. But shortly after looking at their menu, I started wonder why were we here. The menu was pretty average for any average Wisconsin supper club, nothing great or outstanding. I did note that the food was definitely OVERPRICED along with the drink prices. I can accept overpricing if the service and food was exceptional, because it's all about the dining experience. This should have been my third red flag, but I was trying to be optimistic because obviously if a restaurant is willing to overcharge for mundane items, it must be really good. So let's talk about the food, and I will make an attempt to be kind. Let's start with the good things first, The presentation was very good and for most part appealing. Unfortunately what became sort of obvious was the food quality. The food was definitely pre-packaged Sysco sourced food - even the fries had that pre-made look and taste. Burgers were inconsistently cooked. My burger was like someone threw a frozen patty on to super hot grill. It had the texture of card board and taste to match. I'm ok with a bad burger if I ordered it from McDonald's but not a dining restaurant. If want a great burger (or great food for that matter) check out Meat"s Opera House in nearby St. Nazian. The at Meats is made fresh and cooked perfectly at HALF the price of the Fork & Dagger. I'll skip the details of the rest of main course food that was presented to our table. I will say it was awful and sad even for a supper club. Also, I don't think their chefs have ever had Creme Brûlée before, because what they served me was some sort of nasty scrambled eggy thing topped with sugar. I would gladly offer to pay for the Fork & Dagger staff to take a field trip to Chefusion in Green Bay, to experience great Creme Brûlée. I could go about the food but why bother, it's pre-packaged stuff presented sort of nicely. There are a lot of really good places to eat in the area, but the Fork & Dagger is not one of them. The Fork & Dagger is quite unique in the Kiel area. I've been here with family a number of times and have always left satisfied. On weekends, the bar / front of house area can get a bit busy but the staff is generally very friendly. On one occasion I arrived early for a dinner reservation and "checked-in" with the hostess before waiting at the bar. No one came to retrieve us, after being told we would be alerted when our table was ready, and when I asked the hostess (about 5 minutes after our reservation) we were told that the table wasn't ready and it would be a few minutes. The selection of craft beer and cocktails is great for the area and the menu is quite a step-up from other local fare. In my numerous trips I've tried the tuna, mussels, Dagger burger, cheese curds, and much more. The only stand out foods I've had were the cheese curds, Dagger burger, and creme brulee. The rest of the food was "good" but always seemed to be missing some crucial component (or flavor) that would put it over the edge into "great" territory. Overall, a great choice if you're in the area. Prices are extremely fair and the menu is interesting and well-composed but the food is just a hair less than five star quality. read more

While looking for takeout I discovered this gem. I ordered a pasta dish with shrimp. I've always been a bit hesitant to order seafood in the Midwest. I took a chance and was very impressed that they cooked it to perfection. The pasta was also delicious. What a surprise! We were in our way out of town for dinner and on a whim decided to try this place. This is not your average supper club. In fact it's not a supper club at all. I would put it on par with, if not above, the Idlewile. The Fork and Dagger will draw from Elkhart Lake, Plymouth and further. Fantastic salads, wonderful entrees and sumptuous after dinner drinks. Food was good. Our server was what I assume a high school student. She was nice but no mask was worn and didn't check on our meal once (thank goodness it was good food) and seemed to be distracted . What a find! Who knew little old Kiel could be hiding away this gem. My wife and I went here on a date on a Friday night based on a recommendation from a friend. I found it hard to believe we would need a reservation but we made one anyway and I'm glad we did, it was a very busy, happening place. The ambience was warm and bustling, the drink menu had a lot to offer along the line of signature drinks you don't just see everywhere. The menu cuts across several plains to include exotic modern fare as well as tried and true favorites like burgers and steaks. We sampled the bacon wrapped scallops to start and were pleased that even with it being pretty busy, they did not rush the food. Our main plates were hard to choose from due to the wide variety but I settled on the Chilean Sea Bass special served atop a mushroom risotto that was out of this world. My wife got a fish sandwich which was more than she could handle alone, plenty of leftovers was fine by me. We finished up with an adult milkshake that really sealed the deal. The only reason I went with 4 stars instead of 5 was partly because our server probably needed some more training...minor stuff but still...also,be aware the specials are significantly higher in price than most of the menu, no big deal, I think it was worth it. I made reservations after friends of ours suggested the 4 of us go for dinner on a Saturday evening 2-1-2020. I read the reviews and was a bit worried after reading a rather negative review. Our reservation was for 5:30. We arrived at 4:30. The was room at the bar to sit. The bartender took our cocktail order right away, she was very nice. Old Fashioned's were good and reasonably priced. The hostess came and got us at 5:30. We were seated at a roomy high bar table in the dining room. The young man who took our reservation asked if it would be ok if we would mind being seated at a high table...no problem. Our waitress was pleasant and checked back with us frequently to see if we needed anything. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer. It was delicious...4 pieces served on a platter... just enough for the 4 of us. Our entree order: 2 shrimp wild mushrooms on pasta, 1 pork ribeye and 1 Italian Sausage Rigatoni. You could order a salad a la carte, but all of us opted not to. Our entrees arrived in a timely manner. My shrimp entree was packed with flavor, with 5 large shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce. My husband said the Italian Sausage really good but he did say he wished there was more sausage in it. My friend loved her shrimp. We both ended up taking 1/2 home. My friends husband ate everything on his plate and said the pork was so juicy and tender. My husband and I shared a brownie sundae which was also really good. None of us missed not having a salad. We all walked out of the dining room with full stomach's. All of us thought the meals were reasonably priced. We walked out saying that we will definitely return even though my husband and I live a distance from Kiel. My parents took me here on a visit (I live in Seattle) and I was very impressed. They have a nice variety of small plates and entrees. Cheese and meat plate, ale battered shrimp, apple walnut salad, and a cranberry Brie toast thingie. Delicious and something I would expect in a city. They also have a decent wine list.
