Lobster

It was a rainy, wet Tuesday night ... we decided to go to Krabbe's Supper Club, just south of Seymour. This was our first time there. It was chilly when we first arrived, but it warmed up with the help of two wonderful bartenders and, of course, a drink or two. We had come early, and the service was very good with a great waitress. It was unusual, but the four of us had seafood with two of us having perch, one having salmon, and the other having lobster. One of our requirements is that the supper club has a salad bar. Krabbe's salad bar is small and does not include soup. But we found the salad bar to be adequate. And, yes, soup is extra. The portions were above average except for the lobster, which was larger than expected. From the outside, the building looked average, but inside it was clean, modern, and pleasant. We will be back!

Nice supper club atmosphere. Traditional bar and restaurant setup for a suppler club.

Excellent "Supper Club"! Friendly staff and steaks cooked as ordered. Very busy on the weekends, but well worth the wait.

We called ahead for reservations; however, on a slow Tuesday evening, we would have been okay without the reservations. We were able to park at the door, which is always a bonus. We started out with a round of drinks at the bar. Our bartender poured an excellent martini in addition to our other drinks. I thought the prices for drinks were pretty standard for a supper club. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. As we had a baby with us, they got a high chair to set the baby carrier in. Unfortunately, neither bathroom had a changing table. The staff did help in finding a spot where the baby could be changed. The salad, soup and bread bar remains a highlight of the dining experience. The salad bar was well attended to and had something for everyone. There were two soups. Our group really liked the soups. There are many choices on the menu. No one in our group had any problems finding something to eat. They also have a nice kids menu! Our food came out appropriately hot. The portion sizes were good. The food itself had mixed reviews. I had the seafood platter. It was filling but lacked flavor. The shrimp were cooked correctly but didn't have much taste. The wild rice side is disappointingly just a cup of Uncle Ben's rice. The people in our group who had the chicken cordon blue enjoyed their meal. The diner who had the French onion tenderloin, like the tenderloin but said it lacked flavor. The patron with ribs thought they tasted fine but also said the meat was a bit dry. Overall, it was as I remembered it. Good drinks, excellent salad bar and just okay food. If they stepped up the main meals, it would definitely get a higher rating.

Walking into Author's Kitchen + Bar in Appleton, WI feels like stepping into a warm memory. The…read moremoment we opened the door, the creak of the original wooden floors greeted us alongside the cheerful hum of a bustling kitchen. Laughter rang from somewhere behind the counter, a sound that immediately set the tone for a visit rooted in hospitality and heart. Kailin welcomed us with a smile that matched the inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen. After guiding us to our table, we settled into the comfort of the cozy dining room, accompanied by the subtle percussion of footsteps on those charming old floors. Within moments, our server appeared, effortlessly balancing warmth and efficiency as they presented a glass of fresh-brewed iced tea, beads of condensation catching the afternoon light, and a steaming mug of coffee rich with the scent of roasted beans. We began our lunch with a bowl of tomato cream soup. It arrived piping hot, its vibrant color promising comfort. The first spoonful delivered on that promise: velvety and rich, with a gentle heat balanced by a quiet sweetness, each bite coating the palate in layers of flavor. Before we could fully finish savoring the soup, our empanadas made their entrance. Today's lineup included cheese and quinoa, chicken and cheese, and beef. The empanadas were a feast for the senses--golden, flaky crusts that crunched delicately beneath the fork, releasing steam fragrant with seasoned fillings. Each bite was a perfect contrast of textures: the crisp pastry giving way to molten, well-seasoned centers. The trio of sauces elevated the experience--the truffle aioli luxuriously earthy, the tomato cream sauce echoing the soup's comforting warmth, and a third option adding a playful zip. From the first creak of the floorboards to the last satisfying bite, the meal at Author's was a five-star journey. It wasn't just service; it was service from the heart, guided by intuition and a genuine love for the craft. In a world of transactional dining, Author's stands apart as an experience where every sensory detail is curated with care.

The rarity time off we snuck over here and could not have been more impressed! Very much a unique place in Appleton but takes you to a big city like NYC or Portland. The vibes, decor, overall environment was welcoming. Food was delicious! We got BYO omelette and Cheese risotto cake with braised beef short ribs. Both were cooked to perfection and flavors aplenty. Not overly salted which many places can be. The perfect portion size that we didn't even need to take anything to go. Honestly impressed. Even more cool is they try to source ingredients locally when they can so it's helping our community. Very excited to have found this place and will be back for more! We did try some of their specialty drinks and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu whenever we get the chance. We came back for a second visit fairly quickly because we kept thinking about the food! We got some breakfast bowls and added protein to it. Again, this place did not disappoint in the slightest! Happy eating!

And my wife couldn't resist the fresh morning coffee. The stay was more than just the room, beach, and lake. It was a step almost back into a more ideal time where you could take it slow. Walking around the grounds was so nice and the employees at the food and beverage areas were so welcoming day and night. It made for a whole experience that was a great escape from our daily lives. Our kids loved it as much as we did, and felt as welcome as we did. Beyond the resort, it was so nice to be able to walk into town and enjoy the restaurants and shops. We had a room in the newer portion which we were selfishly happy about. It was super bizarre though, when we got to our room it had to have been like 85+ degrees. It was so hot that we had to keep the sliding door open for like an hour. Even the complimentary water bottles were too warm to consider drinking. Super weird but we were able to fix the issue. During our stay we were able to easily walk to the holiday market down the road. We were excited the resort offered complimentary breakfast, but it was very underwhelming. There was very little space and just yogurt and granola and not enough left for our group to all enjoy, and no staff that we could find to ask for more. All in all the place was clean and we got what we needed out of the stay!
