Had an incredible dinner at The Lox Club and it deserves some serious praise. I ordered the haddock and steak combo and it was outstanding -- the haddock was perfectly flaky with great flavor, and the steak was tender, juicy, and cooked exactly the way I asked. You can tell the kitchen knows what they're doing. Service was just as impressive. Melissa was our server and she was phenomenal -- welcoming, attentive, and made us feel genuinely taken care of from start to finish. She had great timing with everything and really elevated the whole experience. And a huge shoutout to Robin behind the bar. Robin is the kind of bartender every place wishes they had -- friendly, engaging, fast without rushing you, and mixes a drink that hits the spot every time. The atmosphere around the bar alone makes you want to come back. Between the delicious food, top-notch service, and the great energy from Robin and Melissa , The Lox Club is a definite 5-star stop. The service was good and the people were kind and welcoming. I really enjoyed the Seafood Platter which came with frog legs which hopped from my plate to my friend's because that's a big nope for me. I looked back at my reviews and was surprised to see that I had never reviewed this place; despite going there on a fairly regular basis. I believe the current rating they have is about right (3.6). However, we know how Yelp scores, so I went with a 4 star review. This restaurant is an old school, Wisconsin supper club. It could probably use a little updating in regard to decoration, but it worries more about food and drink over ambiance. There is an expectation to put in your name for a table (although they do take reservations), grab a drink and look over the menu. While you are doing this, grab some deep fried bread, crackers, whipped cheeses and some pate. Once you get a drink or two in, the waitress will take your order and will direct you to the table. Personally, I've always found the bar staff and waitresses to be helpful and friendly. I typically get their ribeye. It is always done to order and almost always seasoned well. It might not be the best of all steaks but it is consistently good. I like mashed potatoes. They are good and the helping is generous. Their gravy tends to be hit-or-miss. My dining partner always gets a chicken and steak combo. It is very good. Both the aforementioned meals are about $32 each. On my last dining experience, a dining partner got their fish combo. The amount of fish provided was pathetic. If I received the tiny portion, I would have complained. My dining partner expressed disappointment but didn't say anything to our server. The restaurant has changed owners in the past year. Having eaten there before and after, I believe everything has stayed pretty much the same. After dinner, consider an ice cream drink or a pour of some of their high end bourbon. They have a good selection of each at reasonable prices. Too loud the acoustics were unbearable. We waited an hour and twenty minutes on a Monday night and never even had a server check on us. I am so disappointed, we were here to celebrate a birthday. We were told that there were "big parties" ahead of us but the dining room was empty. After being told they would take our order we watched them come out and take everyone's order but ours. They all came in after us. They crossed our name off the list prior to their promise of, "we'll be right over". We will never be back to this establishment again and we are "supper club enthusiasts ". No pictures of food because our order was never taken. Steak and lobster was what we all wanted. Bad Experience! I am not in the habit of leaving poor reviews and only do so when truly deserving. If you are not a resident of the neighborhood, do not bother coming. You will not get served. Here is the problem with the flawed way of bilking money out of your customers. A patron comes in, but they are not immediately seated. Instead, they are asked to sit in the bar area with an invitation to purchase drinks with your name placed on a waiting list where you may or may not get called. Our experience was that we were never called. Someone is supposed to come and take your order after some predetermined amount of time after you've had a chance to purchase rounds of drinks from the bar. Unsure of the exact criteria, as there were many empty tables in the dining area, but presumably, there wasn't enough staff available to handle the amount of patrons. So we waited and waited for someone to come take our order and have us seated, but it never happened. After observing patrons arriving a significant amount of time after us and having their order taken and then being seated, I tried asking the bartender what was taking so long. Of course, the blame is now deflected elsewhere with astonishment that we were yet to be seated. We were told that the owner was notified of our situation, but no contact from said owner and no attempt made by anyone else to rectify the situation. After a forty-five minute wait, we left in disgust. Again, there were several empty tables that was noticed upon leaving. Unless you're a regular, don't even bother wasting your time. read more

We have eaten here in the past and the food was good. We brought family here from out of town for a Wisconsin super club experience and it was a disaster. The service was good, but the food was terrible. The bartender couldn't make a decent old fashion, the salmon special was terrible - the salmon was white not pink, and the fish fry was flavorless at best. I'm not sure what happened to this establishment, but don't eat here! read more

Came in early on a Friday, sat at the bar for over ten minutes waiting for any acknowledgment from the three women behind the bar. Got nothing. Folks came in after and were served. We love coming back here again and again. You MUST get here early on a Friday, like right when they open! It fills up fast! The bar is a great cozy place to sit and have complimentary snacks in the corner consisting of garlic toasts, breadsticks, cheese spread, liver pate, onion cream cheese and pretzels. Its an old fashioned supper club atmosphere, which we love. As you sit and have your snacks and drinks, a waitress will come to greet you and take your order. She will then return in a few minutes to tell you what table number you go to. Its a seamless process every single time. We love the waitstaff here, they are so welcoming and pleasant. We came here for dinner on a calm Tuesday night. We sat at the bar and had a few brandy old fashioned. The bartender was wonderful, approachable and had a sense of humor. For dinner I had French onion soup and fried cheese curds for appetizer and ordered a 20oz. Porterhouse steak with broasted potatoes. The French onion soup had good flavor; I make French nook soup at home and is a huge fan of it anytime I see it on the menu. This particular French onion soup broth tasted like it was made from concentrate. I also expected more cheese on top of the soup. The cheese curds were cubed shaped. I though it could have used more breading to have more balance between crunch and creaminess. I also thought it was a bit on he salty side. I like my steak rare and it came out perfect! The steak tasted great. However the broasted potatoes lacked some favor. Overall, it was a good supper club experience both service and food. The steak was good but thought the appetizer and sides lacked some luster. I know they have an extensive menu and it's a place I would at least try again. read more

I came here with a date on a Saturday night around 6pm. I knew it was going to be good when the parking lot was already full and the bar area was even more packed. We took a seat at the bar and our drink orders were taken quickly while supper menus were dropped off. I ordered a whiskey sweet Old Fashioned and my date ordered a brandy sweet Old Fashioned. I am new to the Old Fashioned game but my date is not. She loved hers and Ioved mine. Our supper order was taken by the time we were done with our 1st drink. I went to grab some accoutrements from the relish bar. They had the usual spread of breads, crackers, pretzels and then cheese and patte spreads. The spreads were tasty and the breads/crackers had a lot of flavor. Our table was ready about 30ish mins after our order was placed and the hot food came out shortly after being sat and finishing our salads. I ordered the mini seafood platter and my date ordered the Tenderloin. My food was fantastic, the shrimp were seriously some of the best shrimp I have ever eaten. It made me regret not getting the shrimp platter instead, all the other fish and scallops were delicious as well but if I choked to death on the shrimp, I would have died a happy man. My date liked her tenderloin as well. The staff was amazing and all interactions were top notch. I also have to complement the rest of the guests. It was an older crowd (me and my date are in our 30s) and it was like eating dinner with our parents/grandparents. We made small talk with a few different groups and they were a pleasure to talk to. This is the worst experience I have had in a long time. I was ok with waiting the 45 minutes to get our table but I was not ok waiting another 45 after our soup was delivered. Hidden gem. If you like Wisconsin supper clubs, you need to get to the Lox Club ASAP. My family has been eating there since they opened (1965 I think). It hasn't changed much, and that's a good thing. Sit at the bar, and ask the bartender to get you a waitress. Order while at the bar, and the waitress will tell you when tie table is ready. Good drinks, ample portions of steak, seafood and broasted chicken. The spreads they have with crackers at the bar are the same ones they served in 1965, and they're excellent. The basket of dinner rolls that comes with meals has the Lox Club's famous mini banana muffins. read more

My hubby is from Wisconsin, and had always spoke of the "supper clubs" that are common there. Being just a lowly Washingtonian, I had no idea what he was talking about. All that changed this holiday season when we went back for a visit... We arrived at about 5:00 pm, only a half hour after they'd opened, and the bar (aka "the staging area") was packed. I might have been an eensy bit surprised that we weren't the youngest people in there, but there were actually quite a few families with kids waiting for a table. After finding a table, we ordered drinks (brandy old fashions all around; another thing I'd never had before) and perused the menu. I ordered a petite steak and fries, which came with salad (only $13--crazy cheap!), as did most others in our party. Apparently steak is THE thing to get here. As we waited for our table, the owner chatted us up and we sampled a few of the free crackers and mystery cheese dips. Yum! Then, our table was ready, so we headed back to the comparatively-empty dining area. Out salads were waiting for us, and it wasn't long before bread arrived. John's dad said that we'd hear our meals coming before we saw them, and he was right -- they bring out your steaks on sizzling cast iron plates for quite a presentation. Not usually a fan of supper club food because to me it is always the same. The flavors here were impressive and surprising for me since I am used to a bland fried-food and frozen items that seem to be just thawed and served. I thought everything we ordered was very tasty and flavorful and everything was cooked well and seasoned well. We had a large group and we seated quickly and were attended to quickly and kindly by just one single person. She chatted up our small child and made it a point to be kind and inclusive to our littlest diner. Been here a number of times over the years. The people are very friendly and you will get a consistently good meal. The fish is on point. They do a great job with the sides. Apparently the owners mother occasionally makes homemade breads. Holy Moses they are amazing!!!! I hope to god they have the recipes written down somewhere because if she takes them to her grave it will be humanities loss. They are that good. Seriously, the loss of these recipes would be second only to the burning of the great library of Alexandria. They are that good. One critique would be the beef. I'm originally from Wisconsin and LOVE to have a traditional supper club experience when I'm home to visit from California. Based on Yelp reviews, I chose this Supper Club that I've never been to before - and took my father, aunt and uncle for a special anniversary dinner. We called for reservations and were told we didn't need them - just to 'register at the bar'. When we arrived and registered, the bartender told us to take a seat because it 'would be awhile...they were very busy'. Now, I'm used to the Supper Club experience. It's part of the fun to have a drink at the bar while your meal is being prepared. I have never - in 40+ years - had to wait for almost 1.5 hours BEFORE OUR ORDER WAS EVEN TAKEN!! In addition, during that 1.5 hours, we were never asked if we wanted another drink. We noticed that it was incredibly busy and they had ONE bartender, ONE waitress, and apparently ONE cook. When we finally got our meal over 2 hours after we arrived (keep in mind, this is a Wednesday in WI when the temp is below zero - not the high traffic zone you'd anticipate!), the bread was cold, the salad was wilted, the steak was overcooked and I didn't even get a refill on my water. For the frugal ones out there -- they even charged $1.75 for a refill on my Dad's coke. I've never been so embarrassed as to have 'picked' this restaurant for this special celebration. If you're from the restaurant (Lox) and reading this - just know....if you had just told us when I called for reservations that you were busy and understaffed, we would have perhaps chosen another restaurant (and you would have lost the sale of 4 dinners), but you'd have our respect and we wouldn't be posting this horrific review. read more

The Lox Club is quintessential Wisconsin fare. First, enjoy sipping on a brandy old fashioned sweet while chatting with bartender Joe. Grab some of the complimentary snack crackers, bread, and cheese topping (or liverwurst) while you're at it. Recently they expanded the bar area - it's bright and fun. Next, place your order. Look at the chalkboard or menu. I suggest ordering the perch with twice baked potato. It's my favorite perch dinner. Otherwise, sample a steak, tenderloin tips, or just about anything. The back room is big enough to accommodate a large group. A wall in the back room displays a historic menu. This shows that little has changed because they do what they do so well. The Lox Club has been open since the late 1960's, and has thankfully changed very little. The decor is wonderfully outdated. Louise at the bar is outstanding. She remembers what you drink, and doesn't skimp on the liquor. The crackers with excellent home made cheese, liver and cream cheese spreads have not changed since the place opened. As is traditional with Wisconsin supper clubs, you sit at the bar first, and your waitress takes your order from there. The waitress comes back and let's you know when your table is ready. Once you are seated at the table, soups and salads come quickly. Dinner entrees are classic supper club fare: steaks, seafood, roasted chicken. There are nightly specials that are always really good deals. Portions are generous, quality is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. On a visit to my parents who live in the area, we went to the Lox Club for dinner. As another reviewer stated, it's absolutely the quintessential Wisconsin supper club. As is typical, we had drinks at the bar and placed our dinner order while waiting for a table. They didn't have any beer on tap (really? In Wisconsin?). It's a typical old-fashioned Wisconsin bar where most patrons were drinking, well, old fashioneds. They also had crackers, toast, and cheese and a liver pâté available. We got there around 7:30 on a Friday night, and the wait was around an hour. After being seated, the food arrived shortly. The dining room felt a bit like a banquet hall with stackable chairs, but it was pleasant. I got the "broasted" chicken, which was quite good. The meal was a half chicken with stuffing, a choice of soup or salad and a choice of potato. I chose the French onion soup and the twice baked potatoes. The chicken was excellent, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The French onion soup was among the better I've had, albeit rather salty. The twice-baked potatoes seemed like nothing more than instant mashed potatoes with some scallions or chives mixed in and placed under the broiler -- very disappointing. The price was amazing at less than $10, even more so considering I took half the meal home. My parents each got tenderloin steaks, which they both agreed were some of the better steaks they had eaten recently. My mother shared my opinion of the twice-baked potatoes. These meals also came with soup or salad and a choice of potato, and were also extremely reasonable at less than $20 each. Pros: - Great entrees - Excellent value - Fun local cultural experience - Good but not overbearing service from the bartender and waitress. Lox Club - Cty Hwy Z - Combined Locks - featured in Ron Faiola's - Old Fashioned Wisconsin Supper Clubs - brought us from Madison to try the famous Phoebe's Haddock. Wow - it is great - worth the drive. Outstanding hospitality from the minute we walked in, Kathy, made us feel right at home on this busy Wednesday evening. She mixed up some tasty Wisconsin favorites - perfect Old Fashioneds. Next she invited us to try their tasty cream cheese spread and liver pate - both lived up to their tasty reputation. Kathy made it fun by sharing the history and local flavor of the Lox Club. It wasn't long and Vicki was visiting us at the bar with menu's and a hearty welcome...she gave us a few minutes to place our order but we knew we were trying the famous Phoebe's Haddock for sure. Table 5 is all set for you, she exclaimed - our salads, served with tiny muffins and rolls, were waiting for us when we arrived at our table. She had the Haddock with a baked potato and I tried the "Surf & Turf" - Phoebe's Haddock served with a 7oz tenderloin and cheesy hashbrowns - probably once of the best tasting steaks I have had in the last couple of years. Excellent. Vicki mentioned she had been serving at the Lox Club for over 20 years and Kathy has been bartending for over 11 years - their hospitality is enthusiastic and infectious - we really enjoyed our visit. We had a company party here and it was fantastic. The drinks, horderves, and food were all very good. Nothing was over salted or over overwhelmingly strong (drinks or liver pate for example) Judging by the full parking lot, bar and dinning area this place was going to be good and we were not disappointed. This supper club located in the heart of the valley and is one of my favorite places to go. The prices are reasonable, and the owner Joe and his staff are superior. Its a family owned and ran supper club which is rare to find. No one can beat their steaks and their mini seafood platter is to die for. Plus my favorite thing is the mini banana muffins in the bread basket right before the meal. Would highly recommend to everyone :) read more
