The daughter took me here on her last night living in the area. Apparently she had been holding out on me for two years.. Just had ice cream as we had visited a local pizza place for dinner. It was all very good. I choose to have my ice cream cone "twinkled". I highly recommend, and if you get a glimpse of the secret twinkle machine where the twinkle magic happens, it is very interesting. I would love to know what is in twinkle, but am guessing the recipe is a closely held secret. If I am ever within 100 miles of Dick's I will be back! It would be worth the trip. read more

I give Dick's a 4 star review mostly based upon sentimentality. This is an old fashioned drive in that I grew up only a few blocks from. No better memories than riding bicycles to Dick's with neighborhood kids for a burger or ice cream. A different time when as a child you went out to play and came in when you heard your parents yell or the street lights came on. Dick's has remained pretty consistent over the years. This is definitely drive in food. It's probably not as good as the reminiscing I get from coming back but I say it is decent fast food. Order the large french fries and you get an order big enough for two. Something fun about eating on the picnic tables and watching the world go by. read more

I have always enjoyed the food at Dick's and have been very pleased with the service. That said, I arrived for a '"call in" order today and was rudely told that I needed to wait at the back of the line. I explained that I called in to avoid the wait and was refused entry. When I attempted to leave, the door guard, accused me of wasting food. I returned home and called back to cancel the order and explained why and was hung up on. This experience was appalling because I have ordered from Dick's many times before and never was treated so rudely. Note to to owner: if calling ahead gives no priority over waiting in line, your staff should be explaining this new procedure to the caller. This has been my favorite burger joint since I was a kid. They make the perfect cheese burger and something about their soft serve ice cream just makes it better than other places. Small town drive in OR over priced and will nickel and dime you to DEATH I have gone here a few times in the last few years but this weekend I have had it. Last year I returned a butterscotch shake thinking it was just a vanilla and i got it on accident and expecting them to remake the correct flavor, instead they told me if I wanted more butterscotch I had to pay extra, I'm guessing people complain a lot about no flavor if that is the first response. The other day my wife asked for a cup of water they said NO, she had to buy a bottle. I asked for an extra cup for my 2 small kids, THEY CHARGED ME FOR A CUP!!! I've always had a special spot in my heart for Dick's: the meat there is always delicious and the ice cream is great on a summer day--which is the best time to go to Dick's. This is the restaurant that specifically defines Kaukauna as what it is: a good-old fashioned Wisconsin town. This is sacrilege, I know. I live in Kaukauna, no more than a couple blocks from Dick's Drive-Inn. I should be raving about it as the locals do; it's a great local business. But at the end of the day it's all about the food. I'll bring the kids to Dick's any time for ice cream on a hot summer day, but that's really the extent of it. The burgers are average at best. The onion rings are thin and bland, all you taste is fried breading. There's precious little space to wait for a business that always has a line, and the only seating is perpetually dirty picnic tables outside so I usually just bring food home. It's a community gem, sure, and a great summer job for the high school kids who work here. If you need a quick fix for a greasy burger, fries, onion rings, etc. it will do in a pinch but it's nothing memorable. I suspect the majority of the reviews are more a product of nostalgia than taste buds. read more

Yuck. I came here for real ice cream (mind you in the dairy state) only to discover that only soft serve was in order. I would have left for another place, but it was nearly 10pm on a Monday night and no other place was open. The joint is a drive in (no sit down area) staffed by high schoolers. Great drive-in restaurant! Dick's is open for a (long) summer season- they open in Spring and close the end of November. The soft serve is excellent and they feature burgers, fries and sandwiches. There's no place to sit inside- you order at the inside window (there's a very small lobby area) and then either take your food with you or enjoy it at one of the picnic tables in the back. They're open late in summer and are a definite hot spot in Kaukauna. read more

I have grown up looking forward to spring so they would open their doors. We go here for quick comfort food and amazing malts.

The food is OK but the staff seem like they could care less about the customers. and honestly the prices for ice cream are a bit much.
