This place rocks. Always good food and drinks. Pizza from the wood fired oven is great. Worth the ride to Hilbert.

Atmosphere: An updated classy supper club vibe. They have street parking available and I believe a private lot as well. The host/hostess stand is right when you walk through the door. They have a nice outside patio area that I am really excited about for summer. The bathrooms are clean, the ladies bathroom has two stalls. Service: They always seem to be a bit short staffed but the staff are so personable and nice. They are organized and courteous, Justine was really amazing! Drinks: I'd drive the 30+ min. from our house just for the drinks. They have such a unique offering and something for everyone. Food: Just shut the front door and lock me in. I love the food here so flipping much. I don't know what to talk about first. BEST PIZZA CRUST EVER. Like I didn't even know this was the pizza crust I've been searching for my whole life. It is thin, crispy but chewy and flavorful. Probably the best beet salad I've had to date (and I order a LOT of beet salads). The brussel sprouts could convert any veggie hater out there. We are going to try and get here every other month at least, wish something like this was closer to home. read more

Really love this place. A classy dining gem that I think gets lost a bit due to the location. Early century (20th) charm with antique furnishings throughout the older building. Mostly tables but a few booths. Warm and friendly atmosphere with excellent service. High standard of utensils and dinner-ware. Ever-changing menu. Now about the food. Our stops are typically Sunday breakfast. The menu is small but you will still find it difficult to decide. Every item is unique (in at least some way) to the Village Hearthstone and prepared from scratch by a real chef. My meal was the BBQ Pork Benedict. Think of Eggs Benedict but BBQ pulled pork instead of ham and cornbread instead of english muffin. It was topped with a few strips of onion strings for crunch. The flavors blended so well. It was served with some of the best breakfast potatoes I've had; they must be flash fried as they are crispy on the outside and so tasty. Portion size is average to slightly generous, the prices are reasonable and actually inexpensive considering the quality of food and service. Again, this has been our experience for Sunday brunch only but not a single thing I can point out as a negative. Great food, atmosphere, and service. read more

My wife's perch were the largest fillets we have seen in a long time but we suspect that they were white lake perch and not the sweeter yellow lake perch. We look forward to returning. read more

Great food and ambiance. It sucks that the location is hidden away that they don't have more business, but it also makes it great for me and my out-of-town friends who want to drop in and try their food. I would suggest trying the craft drinks and woodfire pizza. We enjoyed the Mac and cheese pizza and the proscuitto pizza. Both were perfect. Not burned, not too thin crust with a good mix of ingredients in good portion. My friends thought they could have toned down the dressing on the proscuitto pizza but I thought it was fine. We were in the area camping and the rain wasn't helping our breakfast cookout so we decided to eat out. This was about a 15 minute drive from the park at Lake Winnebago and had a good rating. Our family of four all enjoyed this restaurant! Kids, teens and adults. Food, service and ambiance was top notch. Do not hesitate to check this place out!! Village Hearthstone is a surprisingly good restaurant considering the location. They serve up some unique and fancy menu items; the quality and variety makes me want to come back and try a few more dishes. The atmosphere is old school classy with beautiful wood grains, a quaint bar and visible wood fire oven. Minus a star for poor service. There were only a few tables in use when we came in, and it took more than 10 minutes for someone to come out with a glass of water; another five or ten to get service. We were starving by the time we finally saw food. Maybe a one-off experience, I am willing to give them another try. Closest comparison for me is Wilder's Bistro in Appleton. read more

In what at first seemed like an abandoned Wisconsin town there in lies a gem of culinary comport. The Village Hearthstone is a class act. Hot pizza cared for with grace in a brick oven on display in the main dining hall. The gentleman mixing the drinks knows his craft and the waitstaff is considerate and accommodating. Village Hearthstone is one of our favorites. The service is prompt and so friendly. I feel like an old friend visiting every time we visit. The drinks are yummy . The food is delicious. My only complaint is that the menu is very limited. I think a little shake up once in a while would be nice. Like a daily special??? But definitely try this restaurant. Third time dining here and the food does not disappoint! This time hubby had the bbq chicken pizza. They have their own baking hearth and it was delicious! I had the burger with bacon, egg, and some sort of fruit sauce. Soooo good! I chose the side salad and that was my favorite part. I usually ask for my dressing on the side, but this salad had the ranch lightly mixed in with greens, sliced radishes, grapes, and other veggies. Yummy! The burger was great too! (You can never go wrong with egg on your burger!) we also had the soft pretzel bits for an app. Everything was great! I've also had a pork salad here that is possibly the best salad I've ever had! This was our first visit to the Village Hearthstone. It was great to have reservations and we were seated right away! They have an excellent selection of craft cocktails, beer and wine. The old fashioned is not to be missed! The Moscow Mule is fantastic, too! For appetizers, we enjoyed arancini balls and meatballs, both were delicious and I recommend both of them! For our main course, we sampled the margherita pizza, beer battered haddock and the smoked brisket. The portions were perfect, leaving room for dessert! For dessert, we had the blueberry Craig, served in a cast iron skillet with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream on top and a chocolate cream with raspberries! Mmmm! Atmosphere - ok. Service - ok. As I type this my drink has been empty for 10 minutes, it's Friday night and there are exactly 4 tables in here. Food - Eh. They were out of several items going into a Friday night dinner service??? Yikes! I had the steak and mushroom pizza...bland flavor and burnt crust. My friend had the walleye sandwich...bland with a sweet tartar sauce. We just weren't impressed by anything. Maybe for Hilbert this is great....but we won't make the drive from the valley again. If you are stuck in Hilbert eat here, otherwise drive to appleton for Draft, Wilder's, Houdini's or Cena. Same prices but the food is much better! read more

Four of us stopped here last Sunday for brunch around 10:30, I had called ahead for reservations. Our experience was spectacular! We sat on patio, great server, started with Maple sugar glazed Nueske Bacon as an appetizer and deep fried Brussels sprouts. The bacon was wonderful as expected, but the Brussels sprouts were out of this world, they had small pieces of bacon, cheddar cheese and were drizzled with maple syrup!!! I had the eggs benedict which were on homemade English muffins, with an extraordinary amount of thin sliced ham, perfectly cooked poached egg smothered in béarnaise. We go here every year for Thanksgiving as a big group. The food is amazing every year. This year the desserts were better than years past. The only thing I would say and this is nothing that can really be resolved is the acoustics of this place with a large group at a long table can be difficult. We just kept with small conversations with people in ear shot of where you were seated. I would not give this place anything less than 5 stars though. Their staff is warm and friendly. Their food is above the bar. We drive over a half hour to get here because we love it so much! read more

We've never had a bad meal at Village Hearthstone. Their menu is sourced as locally as possible and changes with the seasons and what's available locally. Their wood-fired pizzas are always amazing and their "adult beverage" list is sure to please. Tonight we were delighted to find out that their delicious poutine is now available on the small plates menu daily instead of only on the Sunday brunch menu. Also tonight they had extra perch specials from last night (Friday fish fry) which was also a pleasant surprise since their perch is the best in the area. Something has changed.....always has been a special experience with great food. Last evening was not as usual. The perch was way overdone, the french fries were soggy and greasy. The rissoto was not as described on the menu, it was just plain with slight flavoring. The Caesar salad was nothing like we had the previous time. This one was small pieces of cut up lettuce with very little dressing as opposed to Romaine and a delicious dressing. The drinks were perfect as usual and the Christmas carolers were wonderful. We will return another time and hope for what we love about this place.....great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, great staff ! read more

Second time at this lovely place and I couldnt be more delighted. We had a party of 12 and the food-from soups, salads, sandwiches to pizza and steak were all amazing. I have been to the Village Hearthstone a few times in the past and the food was always good but never great. Recently a new staff was hired so we went expecting the usual good meal and was surprised with a great one. Looking at the menu you can tell it was all new. I had the rib eye which was cooked perfectly and had a excellent grilled flavor. The veggie were fresh and the garlic mashed potatoes are a real treat. Dessert is something I try to take a pass on but at a place with a high quality meal the desserts are usually as good. The Hearthstone did not disappoint and the creme brulee was outstanding. Instead of coming back once in awhile for a good meal I hope to come back more ofter for another great meal. read more

This was a surprising treat! The flavors of the dishes were exceptional. I had a lovely vegetable selection with "jeweled" rice. I have never had artichoke hearts that tasted this incredible. The carrots, parsnips, corn and spinach were also incredible. That was pretty much perfection for my vegan tastes. My omnivore husband was also wowed with his beef brisket (served over risotto). He was also singing the praises of his vegetable sides. We both appreciated their bar selection, I had an exception organic Malbec from Austrailia, he focused on microbrews. We had been hesitant about going "all the way" to Hilbert, but it turns out to be quite close from the east side of Appleton - closer than going to the west side of Appleton! This is our new local favorite for a nice dinner. read more
