The place has that steakhouse charm. Low light, leather chairs. Dark wood walls. Great atmosphere. The server was attentive, friendly, and professional, but not overbearing. It was nice that they recognized our special event (the waiter asked, and they put rose petals on the table.) It was a beautiful day to sit outside. The covered patio faces the road, and even though there's privacy hedges, the road noise can be a bit annoying. Still, it was nice to be outside. We all got steaks and sides. And they were all amazing! I'm usually a filet guy, but I'm beginning to branch out, so I got their Ribeye. I was not disappointed. It was a perfect medium and PACKED with flavor. Perfectly seasoned with salt & pepper. Tender every bite. The fat was rendered nicely. No gristly stuff. There was practically nothing left at the end. Others got 'petite filets', but they certainly didn't look small. All were perfect prepared to their preferred doneness. All had great taste. The sides were a great complement to our meat-lovers meal. The au gratin had tender slices of potato drowning in a cheesy, milky sauce. The Brussel sprouts were crunchy, with salty bits of bacon, covered with a balsamic sweetness. The mushrooms were tender, plump little guys swimming in with a sweet tangy sauce. Went on a Tuesday night, place was empty and despite being a party of 9 and having a reservation, our table was not ready at 6:45 pm. Complimentary valet parking, nice but not needed. A nice drink selection, we ordered cocktails at the bar while our table was being readied. The bartender was also pressed into service as a waiter, so drinks took longer than expected. Finally seated, service was very slow considering the place was empty and we had two waiters since our party was large..I had the French Onion Soup for an appetizer, That was excellent, my wife had a good salad, the entrees were priced the same as you would expect in NYC or Chicago, so not that shocking...the steaks were cooked perfect, but not outstanding for the price. Three stars isn't a great review, but I'd like to think this was an isolated experience. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I'll start with the positives. We were seated next to a group of women who seemed to be wrapping up a lively happy hour, and our server was accommodating and quickly moved us to a quieter booth, which we appreciated. He recommended the crab cakes, and they were excellent. They came out fast, and the ambiance in our new spot was cozy and set the stage for what we hoped would be a nice dinner. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. After finishing the crab cakes, it took a long time for our soup and salad to arrive, and during that stretch no one checked in or acknowledged the delay. When our steaks finally came out, both were cooked rare even though we had ordered medium. Our server caught it quickly and offered to have them cooked a bit more, but the wait was longer than expected, and we wondered if they might come back overdone. My wife's steak returned cooked properly, but mine was still underdone. It was taken back again and came out quickly, but by then it was closer to medium-well. For a steakhouse, this was disappointing. Another couple was seated halfway through our meal, and they left right before we did. We weren't in a rush, but it still took 2 hours and 20 minutes from the time we sat down to when we paid. I've eaten at a number of Ruth's Chris places around the country, and have dined at the Asheville location four times now. It is my special occasion go-to. I have had their filet in several incarnations, including Oscar style. My wife has developed a fondness for their barbecued shrimp. Their wine list is comprehensive, if priced on the high side. Every experience has been outstanding, from the decor and vibe to the food to the service. They can be pricey, but typically have enough special deals going on to allow us to go over there every couple of months. Johnny, another waiter who had 2 large tables next to us was working his rear off, not our waiter. Couldn't get our water refilled, our bread came out with our dinner, only because I had to remind her. First time in 35 years I left less than a 20% tip. And she still got more than she deserved. My birthday dinner 2025 at Ruth's Chris was spot on. We enjoyed leisurely cocktails at the bar when we first arrived. I ordered a Grey Goose Dirty Martini, perfectly made and icy cold. The bartenders were amazing and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time chatting with them. After cocktails, we moved into the beautiful dining room where we started off our meal with their signature Chopped Salad, which is our favorite. Their Chopped Salad is a unique salad creation, consisting of a mixture of julienned salad greens and hearts of palm, bacon, croutons, crumbled blue cheese, hard boiled eggs, mushrooms, olives and onions. It is all tossed together in a delicate lemon-basil dressing and beautifully presented as a formed salad tower, topped with crispy onion threads. Oh my! Oh my! Our Classic Filet Mignons were seared to a perfect rare and served sizzling in butter on a very hot plate. This incredible cake was an eye-popping tall wedge of a very moist and flavorful carrot cake with THREE layers of the perfect amount of creamed cheese icing. The perfect balance of sweetness. Baby Bear Right! Their Carrot Cake makes you say "Oooooo" when it is presented to you and '"WOW" as you devour it, forkful by forkful. We splurged on a bottle of 2022 Caymus Cabernet. This review was delayed a week as I considered whether to write it. But it's necessary. Had a reservation for after a show, party of 3. Always have 2-3 cocktails or wine before dinner. We arrived on time at 8pm. Waiting area was crowded. Hostess acknowledged our arrival and said we'd be seated asap. "No rush, we'll grab drinks in the bar". LIKE EVERY restaurant. Her response, "I'm sorry, we can't have you in the bar now because of crowding". Great, no table, no drink, just stand and wait. After a few, decided to check bar. OMG! 99% empty! But, they took the time to erect a sign stating that we couldn't enter. The most absurd thing I've ever seen and we dine out a lot, including fine steak houses all over the country. Livid, returned to hostess. "So we can't be seated and we can't have a cocktail why we wait?" "Would you like to speak to the manager?" Me: "Oh, absolutely". No way a manager could explain this, right? Few minutes later, a guy, maybe a manager of sorts, shows up with 3 menus in hand. Wants no discussion, just taking us to table. Server shows up to take dinner order. "We'd like to order drinks first". Oh, I was told you wanted to order quickly. Huh? Server was pretty good and we tipped quite well, despite that she works in one of the most poorly managed, ridiculous establishments. Food was Ruth's Chris typical good. Management negatives override the food and table service, Difficult to enjoy the experience after such poor treatment from the beginning. To management: don't offer me a gift card or anything else. Just get your act together. BTW, stopped in the still empty bar as we left after 9:30. I realize they must handle the service bar but I've never met a bartender who didn't want 2 deep at their bar on a Friday night. And there were 3 bartenders. Then for the main course my wife had a petite filet and shrimp which she loved and I had the bone in filet...both were cooked just as requested and just out of this world delicious. For sides we ordered the Lyonnaise Potatoes & broccoli. The potatoes are fried and accompanied by caramelized onions, fresh thyme, garlic butter for an amazing flavor. The broccoli was just as expected and always a great pairing with a nice steak when cooked correctly and ours was right on the money. For dessert we indulged in the amazing carrot cake that management ended up taking off the bill as a thank you for choosing to dine with them on our special day. I can't even begin to express just how decadently moist & fluffy the cake was...we definitely had left overs as the portion size was enough for 4 or 5 to split. Service by Cody was excellent! We ordered dishes similar to our CG favorites and weren't impressed. Our impressions were that the steaks were smaller and the side dishes less flavorful. We started at the bar while waiting to be seated and told the bartender we would order a bottle of wine and take it with us to the table. However, he poured and charged for a glass. I will say the server, hostess, and valet presented great customer service. However, if you frequent Ruth's Chris, this one is by far the worst. It took at least 35 minutes to get one drink. Over an hour to get food and a second drink. Ribeye came out super charred/burnt (not requested). The excuse was they got slammed...We had a reservation. If I'm shelling out 400 plus dollars, I don't want excuses. Suggestion to management. I've had good experiences there. This Thursday was not one of them. Four of us went for Thursday special Burger Nite. We waited a good 20+ minutes for the food to arrive. When it did, my dinner was cold. Worse yet, the waiter had completely forgotten to put one person's order in , something no one realized until the food was delivered. They sent back mine to reheat and went to cook the missing burger. So, two of us were relegated to sit and watch the other two eat. When mine came it was soggy, but I ate it anyway as three people watched. By the time the fourth burger arrived, the other three were just about finished, so we sat and watched the fourth eat. In effect, we ate separately... together. Instead of enjoying good conversation with friends over dinner, most of the talk was about how poor service was and, as a result how awkward dinner was.The staff was apologetic and they comped one burger. I love Ruth's Chris and over the years have probably dined at 70 or 75 of their restaurants in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere. I and some longtime friends had dinner at Ruth's Chris in October 2023, and overall we enjoyed the experience. The drinks, wedge salad, potatoes and other sides were all great. Service was good. The ambiance of the Asheville location (we were seated as requested near the fireplace) is great. What we did NOT enjoy was the way the chef had cut the NY Strip and the Ribeye steak. Instead of having a beautiful, thick, richly marbled Strip and Ribeye, broiled to a perfect medium rare at 1800 degrees, the chef apparently had decided to cut the steaks into thin sections, chopping the steak in half horizontally. The lovely thick NY Strip, for example, was only about 3/4 of an inch thick and it was served warm, not hot and sizzling with butter the way Ruth did it. This was truly weird. The whole idea behind Ruth's Chris is to enjoy the thick, rich U.S. Prime steak, served sizzling. As a longtime friend and associate of Ruth's Chris founder Ruth Fertel, I know she would roll over in her grave in Metairie, LA, if she knew the current franchise operators of Ruth's Chris Asheville were treating their expensive Prime beef this way. Worst experience at a restaurant ever. We had 6:00 reservations and they absurdly overbooked the restaurant. I was told there was a 20 minute wait, which wasn't a big deal and I saw some friends waiting as well (who had 6:15 reservations). At 6:05 my friends were seated and we had to wait until 6:20. Then we waited TWO HOURS for our food. The tables were packed in so tightly my chair was bumped into by the waitstaff and customers every few minutes. The building was clearly over capacity and they were serving drinks in paper cups. Five minutes into eating the food (half of the tables were empty by this time--many people got tired of waiting and had just walked out) staff decided to put the tables and chairs on the patio, propping the outside door open. Of course a cold wind was blowing right on us and we were freezing. I got up and closed the door, but they kept moving the furniture outside so we grabbed a box for our food (which became cold after a few minutes) and left. I couldn't use the bathroom because it was beyond filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a month. Waitstaff did the best they could, but it was a horrible experience that I won't be repeating. At a time when I rarely eat out because of the high cost, the management decided to pack diners in like a cattle car (to increase profit and overwork the staff)--and the noise was so loud it was like eating in a cafeteria. The bartender came and took our drink order afterwards asking us if we wanted to order, after saying yes he just walked away like he didn't hear us. After 10 minutes or so we flagged him down and put in our order and he asked us if we wanted bread, we had to ask HIM for it because he forgot. I'm sorry he delivered it, it was cold and crappy. Our salads came with dressing and we had to send them back. After the undressed salads were delivered we had to ask for silverware. Now our entree arrives and our Salmon is fishy. I ended up eating a lot of my salmon with a spoon after asking for a fork and it not being brought to our table. This was a terrible experience. I washed it down w a 2017 Cantina Malbec again delicious! If you are dropping in as we did,there are usually seats at the bar, same menu, more casual. Once inside we were immediately greeted by the staff and taken to our table which had a card signed by the staff saying thanks for celebrating with us. The also placed real rose petals on our table. Tonight I visited the Ruth's Chris at Biltmore Village in Asheville. My server was Steve and he went above and beyond. I started with a glass of Malbec and some freshly baked bread with butter. Ordered the dinner which included Caesars Salad, 12 oz Ribeye, garlic mashed potatoes, and praline bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Steve was constantly checking to make sure everything was great and also served me a comp creamed spinach side. My meal was perfect, and too much to finish at one sitting. This was my first time at Ruth's Chris and it was an amazing experience. I was there helping a friend celebrate their wedding day and our waitress made sure to help us celebrate. All of the food was very hot and extremely tasteful. I would make a recommendation when ordering your salmon. If you want it a little bit more firm I would recommend having them cook it a bit longer , but that's my fault for not asking . Also the lobster Mac , the noodles could have been cooked a little longer but it wasn't horrible. The waitress took it off of our bill. The waitress bought out sweet potato soufflé as a compliment for my friends wedding day, a champagne bottle and 4 glasses of champagne. Absolutely horrible experience that the manager attempted to bandage but unfortunately could not. We arrived and were seated within five minutes of arrival so no complaints here. Our server was very nice & explained the menu very well. We ordered a well done filet (for my daughter), a mac and cheese, a mashed potato, a gumbo soup and a Filet (medium-well) and King Crab. The medium-well filet was so dry (see picture) it was barely eatable, but because it was $67 I forced myself to eat half of it. The King Crab was over cooked and a rubbery mess. The mac and cheese, without lobster, lacked flavor and was basically noodles with flavorless cheese sauce. The manager on duty stopped by and we explained everything & she was very accommodating. She brought out a new steak that was medium-rare but simmered on the plate enough to basically be medium. She also replaced the lack luster mac and cheese with sweet potatoes which were delicious. The waiter ask at the end of our meal if we wanted him to package our food and we explained that we did. He specifically asked about each item & we explained that we wanted everything packed. We arrive at our hotel to discover that he did not pack the mashed potatoes. How disappointing since the mashed potatoes cost about $12.
