I love Rusty's, the pizza is always delicious no matter what location I go to. My only complaint lately is the ridiculous new phone system. With a gang of kids coming over to my SB sister's home, i thought Pizza made the obvious choice to feed the hoarde. It was a birthday party for my little grand nephew who was turning 4 that day. The unusual thing about this kid is that he pretty much will eat anything within reason (as in he couldn't abide yams but loves spaghetti squash). This kid is a Foodie in the making. In any event we had his kindergarten class over and ordered Pizza, Wings from the Carillo Street Rusty's unit. Why Rusty's? Rusty's makes popular thin crust very well prepared pizza. Pizza with first class toppings and sauce. They make a popular pizza that kiddoes love almost as much as their parents. As usual the Pepperoni was the most popular as it always is anywhere it is served, anywhere in the USA. Rusty's Pepperoni is slightly spicy, meaty and overall very well seasoned: combine that with their patented crispy thin crust, bake it well and add a good mix of cheeses and deliver it piping hot. All of this contributes to Rusty's popularity. Yes there are more interesting, more "Italian" style crusts out there but those places are for those of us who can appreciate them and who have the money to pay for the pleasure of eating them. 4 year olds don't have any money therefore Rusty's Pizza is more than good enough to make them happy especially since most of them left the crust on their plates. The Crust?! Rusty's crust is one of the best out there and they leave it on the plate? Kids! The 2nd pizza (Diablo) was more for the adults though the birthday boy really enjoyed it: even the jalapenos and (shudder) the pineapple his mother insisted on. Again this pizza featured all of the attributes of the Pepperoni as far as crust, bake,cheeses and quality of toppings. The Hot wings were nothing special. In fact they arrived mushy with a sauce that needs revising: it needs to be hotter, maybe with a bit of sweetness. And the whole thing needs to be more carefully seasoned. On the other hand as far as i am concerned Rusty's would not have been a possibility if their crust was not as good and well prepared as it is. Rusty's crust is in the style of what i call semi-Neopolitan or Italian American. Besides the attributes that i have already mentioned above it is yeasty, slightly sour doughy, slightly sweet: a real winner. So the party went well. Not too many of the kids barfed for eating too fast or whatever it is that makes kids spontaneously throw up. Rusty's Carrillo Street has been in business for a lot of years and i think for good reason: they serve good food, they offer personal service and go out of their way to accommodate changes. I have fond memories of Rusty's! Tonight I stopped in to pick up a GF pizza. Simple. The pizza I got was terribly disappointing. I couldn't find the crust! I used my spatula to get it out of the box and literally scraped cheese & toppings off the bottom of the box, but never found the crust. Never. If I'd discovered this prior to getting home I would have returned to have it remade or refunded. But, alas, I'm home. So I just had cheese, pepperoni & mushrooms for dinner. Oh, and the description didn't say anything about olives, but it was covered with them and I HATE olives. sigh. Overall it was a disappointing experience. read more

So flipping tasty. Spent Sunday at the Ritz Carlton in Santa Barbara. While the hotel and bar were open, the menu was limited. I was coming back from the beach earlier in the day and saw a delivery guy from Rusty's so I decided I wanted pizza in the evening. I had originally asked for the delivery person to call my cell when they arrived so I could guide them down to the villa I was staying in. However I fell asleep, and the hotel had to call me on the house phone. When I looked at my cell phone I realized the driver had called me right (8) times. I had left my phone on silent but this driver went above and beyond to make sure I got my food. The pizza was perfect - crust was golden and crispy. The toppings were delicious and the garlic bread was just right. The Rusty's sauce (similar time a marinara) was tangy and tasty. I left the driver a $10 tip because she tried so hard to reach me. 10/10 recommend. Thanks Rusty's! read more

When you're having a bad day, or you're hungover, or sleep deprived; and you're craving comfort, this location is great. It's shielded from the outside with solid brick and minimal windows. Feels a little like a Vegas spot, in that manner. Anyway, for $ 8.57 (personal pizza, salad, drink), you can sit and relax and eat your feelings. I think the pizza is pretty good! read more

My friends are from Bakersfield and were SO excited to find out there was a Rusty's Pizza nearby for our trip to Santa Barbara. We ended up ordering it two nights in a row and the deliveries didn't disappoint! I really like the doughyness of the pizza and the crispness of the crust. The locations in Bakersfield apparently have potato wedges that they keep raving about so hopefully one day the SB Rusty's will also have those available to try. read more

Had to work in Santa Barbara for the day and I brought my family with me for a quick trip to the Mission and someone recommended Rusty's Pizza for lunch. I love Rusty's pizza. Probably my favorite in Santa Barbara. I come to a Rusty's when I'm craving a no-nonsense, non-hipster pie that doesn't taste like fast food. In an era of artisan, trendy So Cal pizza spots, Rusty's is no frills. The ingredients aren't locally sourced, the crust isn't gluten-free, and the fare is hearty, just the way I prefer. This particular location is rather funky, but kind of cool in a unique sense. It could easily be mistaken for a medieval times castle of sorts with its dark wood and stone accents. There is medieval-era artwork on the walls, a giant unused fireplace, along with a few outdated arcade games which add to the overall campy vibe. There's also a large upstairs eating area that I believe can be reserved for parties. Aside from all this, it's usually pretty clean and I feel that there's typically always someone walking the floors to pick up any debris. The pizzas and sandwiches at this location are very good. Sure, the pizzas are on the pricy side, but they are so worth it. The sandwiches, on the other hand, are priced very well. At a mere $6.49, you can get a large, hot sandwich delivered right to your table with a side of pepperoncinis, truly a bargain if you ask me. I also enjoy that they offer a select number of beers on tap. They are served in chilled mugs which make for a great experience. Not a bad choice for a pizza place overall. I'd probably rather dine at another of their locations, but this spot will forever be cool in a campy sort of way. read more

Came here for a pickup delivery on a busy evening, and the pizza was ready within 10 minutes of calling it in, which was better than the 'approximately 20 minutes' estimated on the phone. The large pizza, which was half pepperoni and half cheese was absolutely delicious, and just $19. The staff were super friendly and engaging. For our to go order,they asked and provided us with plates, condiments including Parmesan cheese and hot dried pepper packs. I'd highly recommend Rusty's at this location for to-go, pickup orders. For in-house dining, they also seemingly had a great selection of video arcades and a well stocked salad bar. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way to SLO. We wanted something quick with parking (which was lacking on State St.). The outside is very charming and welcoming. When we walked in we got that same feeling of charm. The menu is very limited, but it's pizza, we're not picky. We got a small, thin crust veggie pizza. It was $14 with tax, so not a bad deal! But I just kept thinking about how I could get the same size custom pizza at Pizza Rev for $8! The boy working the register was honestly the worst. I asked how the cheesy garlic bread was and at first he just stared at me and then he said "it's alright." And then I asked what customers say about it. He said "some of them like it, some of them don't. I think it's good." He had no personality and really couldn't answer a simple question. He also seemed so confused when we asked for cups for water. Just a very slow employee with no opinion. After we got a table we seriously had to wait a good 20 minutes for our pizza. There weren't even that many people in the restaurant. I know they had deliveries but REALLY. The pizza itself was actually good but the crust wasn't THAT thin. It was fine for me but I know a lot of people order thin crust to eat healthier and I would have been upset if that would have been the case for me. There was also so much cheese on the pizza. I admit, this is and will continue to be my go-to spot for pizza delivery. It's quick, easy, fast and consistent. The pizza is just ok; better than Domino's, but not as good as Gino's or Giovannis. It's cooked conveyer belt style; crust comes out thin and crisp, but lacks substance. Salads are reasonable fresh/crisp. The pizza cheese or something has a taste that is slightly addictive, I have to admit. You know there's something bad about it, but it's so good. It's expensive, about 20% more than most other places, but again, worth it for the efficient delivery. Dine-in at the Carrillo location for the wonderful old building/ambience. read more

They have some video games for the kids and two rooms upstairs for private parties. Women's restroom had two mirrors both placed too low for me to see myself without crouching, but overall fine. Nice salad bar, though nothing special. Pizza was likewise - good but nothing special. I wouldn't come here on my own, but when my friends want to come here, I don't mind. Downsides - they don't have breakfast bacon as a topping choice. This seems like a pretty big oversight to me, but my friends like it here so I'll keep coming back with them. I understand when businesses need to cut costs but I have never had a pizza place charge per packet of red peppers on a Togo order of a full pizza, full length meatball sub sandwich and a whole order of garlic cheese bread. I asked for extra red peppers while he completes my order and then when I receive the order I had 5 tiny packs of crushed red peppers. I ask for more and he states "I gave you two extras. I have to charge for more." Kinda of odd and cheap for a business. Anyone with a NUT ALLERGY beware! Sorry this review is way over-due, I just realized I never finished my review from a while back. Long story short, my husband almost died due to contaminated pizza. I called the next day (once he was out the the hospital) to tell a manager what had happened and his response was just a list of excuses which included "well many something touched the surface we cut the pizza on." The response was non-apologetic and total bull. I completely understand that contamination can happen at restaurants but let's be real, no one ordering a pizza is concerned with nut contamination. read more
