I was contacted quickly by their head office. I was offered a free pizza at my next visit. I accepted their offer and a month later I returned for the same pizza I always order. It was cooked great and the cheese and toppings were as they should be. I have returned another time since then. I guess everyone has a bad day once in a while. I admit, this is and will continue to be my go-to spot for pizza delivery. It's quick, easy, fast and consistent. The pizza is just ok; better than Domino's, but not as good as Gino's or Giovannis. It's cooked conveyer belt style; crust comes out thin and crisp, but lacks substance. Salads are reasonable fresh/crisp. The pizza cheese or something has a taste that is slightly addictive, I have to admit. You know there's something bad about it, but it's so good. It's expensive, about 20% more than most other places, but again, worth it for the efficient delivery. Dine-in at the Carrillo location for the wonderful old building/ambience. read more

I enjoy Rusty's thin crust pizza -- pretty good quality American-style pizza (note NOT New York style, NOT Chicago deep dish and DEF NOT straight-from-Italy pizzeria style). This location is just about as convenient as it gets for downtown Santa Barbara -- it's 2.5 blocks back from lower State St. and yet parking is never really a problem when I am seeking to carry-out. Also cool about this location is the Tudor Revival style building that it's located in -- in some ways it feels/looks like a house. Inside it does feel a little intimate (read: kinda small), and it's apparently a draw for kids with the four-or-so video arcade games to the left of the front counter. I recommend the Rusty's Special pizza (the standard "combo" pizza), and also the lunch special that this location does (along with other Rusty's in the area) during the week -- a 2-topping personal pizza with a single-trip salad bar + a drink for about $7. read more

I called the next day (once he was out the the hospital) to tell a manager what had happened and his response was just a list of excuses which included "well many something touched the surface we cut the pizza on." The response was non-apologetic and total bull. For just $6.95 you get: one trip to the salad bar* (no one watches you), one small drink (free refills, just ask), and one personal size pizza (pan or thin crust) with 2 toppings! I was driving back to the Bay Area from LA. Got hungry and pulled off on Carrillo Ave in Santa Barbara. I smelled something good, turned to look, and saw Rusty's Pizza Parlor. Hung out downtown for a bit, wondering what kind of food I wanted. Ordered pizza from Rusty's Pizza Parlor. You place your order with their call center, which was kinda different, especially since I'm from out of town. The pizza that I got was good. I truly enjoyed it. Their version of a garlic cheese bread was also good. Next time I'm in the area, and I feel like having pizza, I would try this place again. The food is delicious, and it was made well. I was very satisfied with what I got, even though a seagull shit on my door handle while I was inside, lol. I drove off on a five hour trip up 101. I was happy with my food. One thing I noted, was that I was unable to tip the staff. I gave them a $5 bill regardless. Give me decent food, give me decent service, I tip, reasonably. I'm not sure how tips work in this restaurant, maybe they are being paid enough that tips are not necessary, but for some reason I doubt that. Be sure to at least leave a dollar tip. Great pizza, sandwiches, and salad. Pizza is pretty expensive but it is good. I went in for meatball sandwich and asked if they would charge extra to add lettuce and tomato. The register guy was confused and looked around for awhile thinking before telling me he'd charge me $2. I declined. Then he told me how weird that was and how he likes peppers and onions on it. Mehh- I tried to be a fan, but I couldn't. I had to talk my husband into trying something new instead of getting our usual place. First and foremost pizza is my FAVORITE food of all time. Last night we tried Rusty's for the first time. The pizza was not what I was expecting! It was chewy and greasy- which was a bummer due to the positive reviews. We ordered online which was simple and easy to navigate. We opted for delivery and while that was quick and the driver was nice, our breadsticks were suck on top of the box upon arrival. I've been eating here for forty years and enjoy the pizza and the basic salad bar. The service is fine but the people are often seemingly distracted by all the delivery service they do now. Preperation time is average for pizza and by time you've made and eaten a salad it's usually ready. The building is a uniquely built pub from England that was taken apart and rebuilt in Santa Barbara. There is a nice size meeting room upstairs that my car club used for years. Nothing better than pizza and beer during a meeting. The pizza has a basic zezty flavor and because I've eaten it for so long, it is my baseline for pizza. Not the best, but maybe 8 of 10. It has a medium, not so crispy, crust. I also eat their oven baked subs on occasion which while not packed, are quite flavorful. They do not offer a self serve soda fountain. We eat at Rusty's every three weeks or so. read more

I must just be used to hand tossed crust and brick oven baked because if my memory serves me correctly Rusty makes pizza on preformed dough and melts cheese and toppings on a conveyer belt through a heater. The bread isn't as fluffy as I'd like and the crust is pretty flat too. The topping choices are delicious. If you're craving pizza, this is an ok option, but then again so is Domino's. read more

Whoever is working the phone right now at Rusty's in Carillo needs to find another job because they don't understand customer service or basic courtesy. I called to order at 11:44 and after giving my phone number and address COHERENTLY they asked what I wanted to order. I am ordering for my siblings so I said "hold on, give me a second I'm so sorry" and giggled a LITTLE bit because my siblings were so excited that Rusty's had answered so late. The man immediately hung up on me. I assumed it was an accident; called back and was sent to some kind of recording. Called back again, someone answered, was breathing heavily and hung up. I then had my brother call back, he eventually got through, gave the phone number, address etc and the order this time. The man asked "cash or credit" and my brother said credit as my sister said cash so I started giggling. They don't get pizza a lot, were very excited and their enthusiasm made me laugh. He immediately hung up again. This time we are extremely pissed because at no point have we been rude, dragged out the order or been intentionally disrespectful. My sister calls to try and check if they processed the order, she gets through and same thing. He asks a question and she doesn't answer immediately so he hangs up. My brother tries one more time because at this point we are genuinely confused and assuming the Rusty's phone is malfunctioning. My brother finally gets through, says hey I just wanted to check if my order was placed" and the guy responds "we couldn't get a straight answer from you guys so we won't be taking your order don't call back". I am actually dumbfounded. I have worked in food service for SEVEN years and even with customers who are slow, go back and forth with decisions or even not the nicest, I have never delivered such poor service or been so rude. What kind of worker hangs up repeatedly rather than saying "sorry I need only one person to talk so I can make sure the order and information is correct" or at least having the decency to say that because you're having a bad night and want to lash out you won't be placing our order. So disappointed in the pizza :( flavorless.. lacked sauce (didn't get the request for extra sauce I suppose)... crust was not really cooked through.. my husband and I couldn't eat more then a slice each. Donated the rest to my work colleagues the next day..
