The lunch special is the best! The salad and pizza combo is the perfect amount for 2 people. Great to have the chance to try the food without overly committing to a larger pizza. Salad was fresh and delicious. The pizza was fantastic, the best in Santa Barbara. Placed an order at the window and picked it up, found seating on our own in the courtyard there. A fun casual experience.
We had a great experience at Lucky Penny! The pizza was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance was really nice. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back for the pizza!
Beautiful outdoor resturant where you order at the counter and then a service member brings you your food. We got the Arugula Peach Salad that was a perfect size and so flavorful, we also got the hot girl pizza which was SO TASTY!
My mother, who isn't much of a pizza person, liked her pizza so much that she wanted to come back here a second time before we departed Santa Barbara. So, we came here for a second visit during our 3-day visit, at around 3pm and it was very empty. We ordered the same thing, Salty Surfer with mushroom, and my kid added pepperoni this time to his kids cheese pizza. It was just as tasty as last time, and everyone even ate the crust lol! Service here is so friendly. The staff are super chill and casual, and were all really nice to my 7 year old kid. Our table was a bit sticky and we put a napkin over the sticky part, and when a staff was clearing our table, he apologized for the sticky part for not cleaning it. Not a big deal at all, but really nice it was acknowledged in such a respectful way. This will now be my go-to when we come back next time!

Yum Yum Always great service and that patio makes for great spot for a picnic. A garden like setting The drink selection has something for everyone in your group or family. My family and I tried this place and it was just OK It wasn't completely bad,. We didn't receive a warm welcome. We ordered two pizzas and a salad.(pizzas are medium size) , after about 20 minutes, they brought one pizza out and the salad and then the second pizza took about another 20 minutes. That was very unexpected. because we kind of expected both at the same time. Then the pizza really is not very cheesy so just a little disappointing. The seating area was uncomfortable. Not enough shady spots, few umbrellas. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back.
Long line when we got there for dinner! Didn't realize it stretched all the way to the back of the building where the ambiance is a little more classy. We ordered a Confit Garlic Bread and Salty Surfer based on other recommendations. I honestly wasn't too much of a fan of the Salty Surfer as it don't stand out compared to usual pizzas I would get elsewhere, but I really enjoyed the Garlic Bread. Very cheesy and the basil is a good addition! Would definitely want to try something else on the menu next time!
Put in a pick up order for 9 pies- big family get together! Ordered online and picked up. The place is cute and looks prefect for large parties. Unfortunately, when we got back with our pizzas home, more than half were burnt. Not "wood fire" yumminess, just burnt. After spending over $220+ I'd hope for more quality control and standards. We both hit Yelp, & it was easy to see that Lucky Penny was our winning ticket! Located in a hip little district new to our Santa Barbara adventures, we immediately loved the vibe. Outdoor seating, inviting set up, with the Strokes & other indie rock tunes playing. We were comfy right off the bat. We walked up to order & were greeted with great service. Got water from their service station and then proceeded to get cozy on a picnic table/bench set up enjoying the scene. For starters, our appetizer was their refreshing take on the Caesar salad. For all those who know their Caesar salads, I prefer my dressing on the thicker/creamier side. It always throws me off when Caesar dressings have a strong vinaigrette profile to it. Lucky Penny's Caesar dressing was on point! It wasn't thick, nor did it have that vinegary profile I just mentioned. Easiest way to explain it is that they had their own take to it and it hit just right. My apologies for not taking a picture of it but we were starving, and after that first crispy bite I had forgotten my phone existed. For our main entree, we went with their East Coast Pepperoni. Damn, that was good pizza! To me, all pizzas have their own distinct character. Lucky Penny definitely has character. We devoured that pie, crust and all. I did have to dab my last 2 slices with a napkin due to the oil from the pepperoni cups, understandable. But that doesn't stop me from liking it. This place is honestly one of my more favorite pizza spots and we enjoyed everything about it. Great service & staff. Lucky Penny has now joined our rotation of favorite spots here in SB whenever we're in town! Helpful Tips: -Beverages are sold, but they also have a water station. -Outdoor seating only, check the weather for personal comfortability. -Bathrooms are located next door inside Pearl Society (a hip spot for drinks that we also recommend). A short walk to the right & you're there. -Family friendly
Yum! We went here before we headed to the airport based on a recommendation of friends back home who are from the area. We ordered the Margherita pizza - typically, not my go to, however, the table next to us had it when we sat down and it looked so good, we couldn't' resist - and I'm really glad we didn't, we devoured this pizza! My only piece of advice would be more about the ambience/environmnet - there were only two tables that had umbrellas and we were there in the middle of summer on a hot day. I'm assuming since they're near the coast they usually have a nice breeze, but us and all the surrounding tables around us not shaded were definitely struggling with the heat and lack of shade which did contribute to making eating the hot pizza a little less enjoyable.
if you're in the mood for some warm and yummy pizza this is the place for you! we ordered the birds and the bees pizza and it was a good size for two people if you're looking for a snack in between meals. would definitely recommend ordering more if your coming here for a meal. the pizza came out super warm and flavorful! would recommend if you're in the area!
Lucky penny has quickly become my go to pizza place in town. The thin, wood fired crust is crispy and the flavors of the butcher shop pizza are insane. It has the perfect amount of kick and the portion feeds 2-3 easily. We tried the Italian chopped salad which was also incredible. Tons of fresh herbs and veggies with a light but flavor packed dressing. The front patio seating area is so cute and intimate. A must visit when in the funk zone!
This is some of the best food I've had in Calif. The pizza was solid and the chopped salad was so delicious. The staff was kind and gave me plates and forks gratis and I loved the vibe outdoors there. I'm going to recommend this spot to everyone visiting SB! They also had a great BOGO deal on door dash.
Came here with a couple of friends and shared a couple of pizzas: the california, east coast pep, and hot girl pizza. Three pizzas was the perfect amount for us four girls. My friend and I went to celebrate her birthday Friday 8/7 around 4-5pm. She got the margarita pizza and I got the Hot girl pizza (lol funny name) AND they were delicious! Hot girl pizza was spicyyyyyy, but the sausage?! LOVED ! The garlic bread? Unnecessarily SPICY (I'm a 100% Latina, who can HANDLE spice... but this was borderline unenjoyable spicy) Food was 10/10! The ambiance was chill and I loved how it looked. The ocean down the street and everyone just enjoying themselves. Customer Service ? Left MUCH, MUCH to be desired and honestly, probably will keep me from coming back again. When we were ordering, I had asked the person at register "Hi how are you going today?!" Just got responded with "good. What can I get you?" Blunt. Unwelcoming. And kinda rude. I just said ok and moved on. It was our first time there so I asked her for recommendations and she just said "everything is good" Between her responses, she kept talking and laughing with her coworkers. Not a big deal, but you can just tell when someone isn't interested in having any sort of conversation. Also due to the fact that she had her back completely towards us in the middle of our transactions multiple times. She inspected my printed receipt at the end and looked bugged when she realized we didn't tip due to her poor service. Couldn't help but notice a different type of customer service being offered to other customers. It seemed obvious. Probably won't be coming back because of service, might just do pick up because of the food! Definitely would much rather recommend St. Bibiana's pizza on Ortega! Love coming here on warm evenings for a casual but cute date night. Gluten free crust is tender and regular crust is also delicious with big crust bubbles. At other pizza places I sometimes have to salt the pizza when it comes out but whatever cheese blend Lucky Penny uses has a nice balance to it which I appreciate. Order ahead on their Toast app for takeout and skip the line, pickup is easy from the side door toward the back right corner where the line queues up. The servers are super friendly, even during busy times. This place gets packed for lunch, afternoons, and evenings. The decor of this place at night with the lights is also super cute. We opted for takeout this time, and everything was amazing. Highly recommend adding chicken and egg to any salad for extra protein. My favorite pizza is the Hot Girl pizza, and the meatballs definitely did not disappoint. If you love wood-oven pizza, this spot is a must. They also have a great cheese pizza for kids. Came here craving for pizza. This is a sit yourself down kinda spot. But they do bring the order to you. The place is decorated beautifully with lights and a food truck. They have ample patio heaters. We got 3 pizzas. 1. Pepperoni for the kids which they loved. 2. Californian which was surprisingly yummy. 3. Custom buffalo chicken which was also really good. Shocked I haven't written a review for Lucky Penny! It's one of my favorite spots in the funk zone for pizza. The pizza is wood-fired to perfection. I especially enjoy the crust. It's chewy, crunchy and delicious. On my latest visit, I tried the Californian topped with creamy lemon ricotta, marinated artichokes, toasted pine nuts, and fresh basil. Every bite was bright, earthy, and full of flavor. The crust had that perfect blistered char, truly is Chef's kiss. I've also had the pepperoni and the OG. Highly recommend adding the garlic confit! I also ordered the Chicory Caesar Salad. It's not your typical Caesar salad, but it was delicious! The chicory leaves are covered in Parmesan cheese and buttery breadcrumbs. Tossed in a lemony dressing that brings it all together. Customer service was pleasant on my visit. The ambiance here is casual, kid and dog friendly. They offer beer, wine, soda, seasonal cocktails and Frosè here too, which is nice on a warm day. Overall, this is a bookmark and worth checking out! read more

Stopped by the lively Funk Zone and it was definitely a party at every corner! Was in the mood for pizza and Lucky Penny delivered! Great pepperoni pizza and fresh Caesar salad. I wish the hot honey was thicker in consistency, but still good flavor. Service was quick, but the restrooms at The Lark were very dirty. There was throw up on the walls of two stalls, which was unfortunate. Other than this, the food experience was good! read more

Beautiful ambience! Perfect for a fun dinner - alone or with friends and family. The place is nicely decorated with lights. Got the Californian pizza - the ricotta was superb. It also came with a lot of bay leaves and some nicely marinated artichokes. Loved the cheese shavings on top and the pine nuts - added a nice texture. The crust was slightly burnt and more crispy than I'd have liked. But definitely going back for the food and vibes. Service was quick even for a fairly busy Friday night. Friendly staff :) read more

Grabbed some pizza for takeout and really enjoyed it! The space is pretty small for eating there and takeout seems to be a popular option. There is a side door you can go to if you're ordered ahead online so you don't have to wait in the ordering line which is really helpful! We had the pepperoni and salty surfer and both were delicious, the crust is so tasty on its own that pretty much any topping would probably be good. Definitely a great local pizza stop in the funk zone! read more

Tried the Mexican street corn pizza here and loved the combination of unique toppings! I think it was a seasonal special. They gave us dips of hot honey and ranch too. The hot honey was a great touch on the pizza and I dipped the crust into the ranch! So good! One of our favorite pizza spots in Santa Barbara. After living there a few years ago, it's so nice to go back and enjoy it again. Ordered 2 pizzas (east coast pepperoni and hot girl pizza) and they were both amazing! Also ordered 2 Italian chopped salads which were so fresh. We had a group of 4, so the 2 pizzas and 2 salads were perfect for us. Tons of outdoor seating which was a great environment and relaxing. Great selection of beer and drinks! I was so hungry and the food was so delicious. I forgot to take pictures, yes, I highly recommend everything is fresh and delicious. All the ingredients they use are from local vendors and you can just absolutely taste the love. The best Caesar salad I ever had I can still taste the pizza. It was amazing. It's outdoor seating only and you walk up to a little takeout window to place your order and then find a table (it's first come, first served). We got the Garlic Confit Cheesy Bread and Hot Girl Pie. The cheesy bread is basically a pizza/flatbread, just more rectangle than circular, but taste really good, salty, and the garlic flavor is stellar. Hot girl Pie was also phenom, spicy vodka sauce with the sausage + broccoli was a flavor bomb. Crust is charred, doughy and chewy but crispy. Highly recommend this place, quality ingredients and delicious food. O and also, we got a side of ranch (sorry :/) and it was really good lol, def homemade. read more
