The Rustik Tavern. Where do I begin ? I was recommended this place by a friend multiple times and decided to take a family member there for her birthday brunch. I must say everything wasn't all bad but the food wasn't super good either. I don't like to waste time, money or my taste buds and all three were challenged. I ordered the omelette that came with potatoes and salad. As well as a side of cheese grits. My family member ordered the same dish minus the grits. Our other table mate ordered the French toast. Let me just say I'm not into writing bad reviews just telling my truth. My meal was not good. The omelette was not well cooked to me. I say to me because my family had the same omelette and enjoyed. The salad was put on the plate with the hot food so it wilted. However the grits were pretty okay. The French toast was rock hard. Literally we hit it with a fork and you heard it. We looked at the table next to us that ordered French toast and theirs appeared to be fluffy and delicious. At that point we alerted the waitress to our dislike of the food overall. The waitress from beginning to end was very kind and she agreed with our decision to speak up after seeing the food for herself. I did have to peach cobbler since I didn't not get anything else after sending my food back. It was delicious. Try that if you go. The outdoor ambiance was enjoyable. The menu pricing was average. We made reservations for 4 here and we were seated immediately. It's possible that the reason why it wasn't so packed was probably because it's the weekend before Christmas but I'm told it's usually packed. SERVICE The service was normal. We had two bottles of water and the waiter came promptly talking about the specials. That's was fine. But the issue was at the end when we got our bill they immediately took out 20% gratuity when it clearly states on the menu that this is only true for parties 5+ and we were a party of 4. So be sure to check your receipt and say something. FOOD They have bottomless $20 brunch so that's not bad. The food is slightly expensive but I think for the most part the portion size makes up for it. The shrimp and grits will not keep you full unless you get something else. It was very tomato-y and not spicy. It was only ok. The shrimp was tender and fresh but I wasn't a fan of their version of creole seasoning. The chicken and waffles as you can tell from the other reviews is the show stopper. Definitely get it. You will be very full after. The burger and the other omelet dish are a great size and could be a couple of dollars less. Also it seems like the prices change at this place. If you look at the menus photos and compare them to the prices you see they increased the prices They play dope music in there! I was literally singing along to everything. I've been to Rustik 3 times for brunch and while they aren't my favorite brunch spot, the food is really good and so is the service. It's a cute, and small, spot with outdoor seating in the back which is great for summer. I've sat at the bar and at a table for brunch, and both times my waitress was very attentive. It is also Black Owned (big plus!). They have a $30 bottomless brunch option that includes mimosas, bellinis, screwdrivers, bloodys, etc. the food menu is impressive and has a wide range of items from Chicken and Waffles, to salads, to salmon burgers. I had the salmon burger twice and it is DELICIOUS! I'm talking about so good that I almost licked the plate when it was finished! It is served on an English muffin and comes with a really great garlic aioli which compliments the burger perfectly. The fries it comes with are also really crispy and I devoured them (of course I had to review the fries). My one gripe is the mimosas are not the best. First time I went over a year ago, I found them to taste a little bit watery and this last time I felt the same. Not sure if it's a cheap kind of champagne or if they really are adding water. But I just feel that it shouldn't be hard to make a mimosa correctly and they were just BLAH (minus 1 star). On a blazing hot Saturday afternoon I paid a visit to Rustik Tavern at the suggestion of a friend. We ordered cranberry mimosas and the Dekalb chicken and waffles. We sat at the bar. The service from our bartender was top notch! I assume we were some of the first guests, because I was told that normally the bar is uber packed. The story takes a twist as we were served the chicken and waffles. We are cutting into the fried chicken and all we see is dark pink meat. This is an indication of under-cooked chicken, as fully cooked chicken has a white color. The skin of the chicken was well done, unfortunately the actual meat wasn't. As we are sitting trying not to complain about the food, a host comes up to my friend and asks the friend to move from her seat where she was eating to seat two other guests at the bar. Rather than have the couple wait to sit at a table, we were both then asked to slide our food and drinks down. It couldn't be our own fault that two chairs on the opposite sides of us weren't occupied. The situation was, so awkward. The couple didn't even order food or drinks. We have ordered several time in the last few months and have recommended them to others. Sadly they are still charging the same price but the portions were severely smaller than previous. The salmon used to come with potatoes and I understand the manu change but they are still charging $25. The crab cake was half the size it has been the last 4 times we ordered and it is not as good as before. There were half the amount of fries we normally get. We enjoyed our lunch at Rustik Tavern! The service is very friendly and attentive and the waitresses are going fast from table to table to make sure that clients have what they need. We got some brunch dishes (friend chicken & waffles, omelette, cheddar grits) as well as their famous fried cheesecake. I arrived early and sat at the bar and asked for some tea which was great. It wasn't great because after all it was just tea but it went down great because the female bartender offered me some options. It's seems simple but that made me feel good. My friend arrived and we decided to remain at the bar. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my buddy ordered the chicken and waffles. I can't say it was the best I ever had but it was clear that it was made with love and it tasted as much. I arrived at 11:45 and didn't leave until 2:45, I didn't want to leave. She wasn't very familiar with the brunch drink special. She had to go ask someone when I asked her about it. My bf ordered steak and eggs. She didn't ask how he wanted the eggs or the steak. After some moments of silence he had to fill in the blanks. Then she came back to the table 15 minutes later asking if we ordered. (Not so good) We choose to go for the $30 unlimited drink options (90 minutes) that included an entree. Drinks included mimosa, Bellini, screwdrivers, and Bloody Mary. After a couple of signals the first few times to bring another round she was on it and made sure we were taken care of the rest of the time we were there (Good) We were told we have to stick to our first selection and couldn't switch (Not so Good) Every other place I've been allows you to switch your drink as you go along. Not the biggest deal I guess. So before our food arrives and we are waiting there is a man at the bar that is clearly drunk and it's just 12:30. He's swaying at the bar and trying to sing to the bartender that is ignoring him. He is clearly familiar with the place and the staff and probably the owner because at one point he tries to go behind the bar. The bartender tries to block him quietly without a scene but is unable and he goes behind the bar and gets himself a glass. He tries to go into a closet they have back there. Bartender again tries to stop him but can't. Then he goes to pour himself a beer from the tap. Once again she tries but is unsuccessful and he starts drinking behind the bar. As a customer seeing this made me very uncomfortable. (Bad) The saving grace from this scene was the food. It was very good! I got the chicken and waffles. Chicken was nice and crispy. Waffles had good flavor. My bf got steak and eggs which came with home fries. The home fries were good and so was the steak. Only thing is that the steak was a bit under. I love this spot!! This is my second time here for brunch and it was amazing. We were a party of 7 and nobody had one complaint. I truly had not one issue either. The food was amazing, I had a salmon burger, avocado tostones, and unlimited boozy brunch. Everything was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The mimosas and Bellinis were great. The waitress Kristy was very attentive with a lot of personality. She really made sure we enjoyed our meals and made sure we weren't waiting for our next drink like most establishments. So I did and I got Joe response for 7 days. I called again, got through the automated response and the person who spoke to me was really nice and said she would let the owner know. The response however was that they don't take parties over 8 at all and I would have to rent out the space. Luckily my group got smaller to 8 so I called back again and made a reservation.
