OK. The food here is good. The ambiance is awesome. But the service needs some work. Every time I have been here, randomly throughout the years, my service has been a miss.  A lunch that should take an hour takes two hours just because it takes 20 minutes for the server to even come to the table. Then another 20 for drinks. Another 20 for ordering... so on and so forth.  I get it. I served before for ten long years. Most of the time it isn't the servers fault, they are understaffed, or there is a lunch rush. But for a place of this size and its popularity, management should have figured that out by now. Please hire more runners or bussers to fill drinks and deliver food.  But, with that, I will still go here because the food IS good and it is a beautiful place. read more

As we all would like try the chilled soup but wanted to save room for other dishes, the restaurant kindly split the whole bowl for us. The presentation was so impressive! I loved salmon the most. Husband and I went here for lunch on Friday. This is middle of winter in Anchorage so restaurant was not crowded at all. I called ahead and checked and was told there was plenty of sitting. We got seated right away. We shared the drunken clams and sausages and I had the green tea matcha latte. This maybe enough for 3-4 if you eat as an appetizer but as an meal for two since my husband is a big person, it was just enough for both of us. I wanted dessert but husband didn't and there was no way I could finish it myself so next time. Server was friendly, took our order promptly and food arrived timely. We were busy talking, admiring the view and looking at other customers food and then food arrived before we noticed. The clams and sausages were tasty; it's was slightly on the salty side and the matcha green tea latte was not as hot as I like (I like my drinks and food HOT in temperature and favor though) henceforth the four stars. Service was great and maybe other people who didn't like it was there when it was crowded. Our server was named Ally. View of the mountain was nice and building looks new/trendy. A place I've wanted to try out for a while!! Every time I've stopped, it's been super busy with no parking and a long wait time. I had heard that hey were good tho so I was willing to keep trying back. First time visiting, they seated us quickly, party of 2, took our orders ... then we waited.. and waited for the longest for our food. Our server was totally preoccupied serving a large party... and we definitely felt forgotten. Tough when you have an ancy toddler. Tables seated after us were served quickly. Finally our food arrived! My spouse had the burger/fries I had the vegan noodle stir fry with blackened chicken. Burger was black charred, patty was dry and thin. We didn't say anything because we didn't see our server for the longest. My chicken was perfection! I don't think portion sizes are fair for what you pay. Super crowded but really trendy. This sounds like an exaggeration but I swear it's true. I explored a glacier this morning, and had dinner tonight at the Rustic Goat and I don't know which was the best highlight of the day. Obviously the glacier was amazing but that was the best dinner I have had in a LONG time. Everything was amazing and the service was great. We had the peaches and burrata appetizer and right off the bat it was out of this world. There were so many components- pesto, sun dried tomato, pistachios, prosciutto, arugula, and the peaches and burrata served with balsamic drizzled toast. With all that, you think there's no way all those flavors are ALL going to be good together but OMG it was amazing. The flavors all stood out on their own and complimented each other so well. There's no other way to put it, it was f*cking amazing. My mom had the clams appetizer as her entree and that's the only thing I didn't taste. But based on the looks she was making as she ate it, it was orgasmic. My hubs ordered the margarita pizza and when I saw it had sun dried tomatoes I thought they must have sent the wrong pizza. But again holy cow, it was so amazingly good. I almost abandoned my meal and ordered another one of those! Buuuut thank goodness I didn't! I ordered the Elk with the cauliflower and fingerling potatoes. I'm not a big fan of cauliflower but it was served with huckleberry sauce so I was curious. A bite of the cauliflower with the huckleberry and bacon was to die for. Best thing ever. I had to stop and keep telling my family how amazing it was. The elk was great but really that cauliflower was the star of the show. The waitress told me people often sub it out because they don't like cauliflower, but people listen, LISTEN! you have to try it. Your socks will be knocked off. I have never had such an amazing veggie side as that. Then finally for dessert we all split the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream (it turned out to be a huge serving, plenty to share). The waitress told us that it had a surprise ingredient so I won't say what it is (she asked if we wanted to know, but we said no). Again, perfection. It had a nice crust and was so soft on the inside. We were stuffed but could not stop till it was gone. For drinks, my hubs had the grapefruit Hefeweizen and Oktoberfest beer, I had the hazy IPA. My mom had the sweet tea. All good options. I am visiting from LA and there's lots of great food there, but man, I am sad at the thought that I will probably never again eat at the Rustic Goat. That kinda breaks my heart a bit. The waitress was wonderful, sorry I didn't get her name to give a shout out but service was amazing. Also just as a side note, all that for $148 is crazy. I ordered the Dutch baby, biscuits and gravy, the open face egg Sandwich and the nachos. The Dutch baby is like a flavorless piece of flan with soft candied pecans and fresh strawberries. I was honestly very disappointed in the Dutch baby for ver obvious reasons. The gravy on the biscuits was delicious but unfortunately the biscuits were so dry not able to enjoy the delicious gravy. Which was another let down. But the best part of the whole experience would have to be the open face sandwich and the nachos they were so delicious that there wasn't even time to take a picture. read more

We wanted to get out of the main downtown area of anchorage on our vacation (honeymoon) and found this place. It looks super cool and trendy on the outside and in and we found that the demographic was anyone from families to people grabbing after work drinks. We walked in and waited nearly 10 minutes to be seated, and weren't even acknowledged for the first 5 of those. If this place was near anything else and we wouldn't have had to drive somewhere else, we most likely would have left. We got sat at a two person table in the back, which is fine, but it felt like we were invisible. It took another 10+ minutes for anyone to come to our table just to give us water. Our waiter came to our table 3-4 only times during our service (including dropping the check and picking it up)-- everyone else that came (and were a little more helpful) seemed to be floaters or busboys and we had to basically flag them down. What was most frustrating about our service is that we watched our waiter be very attentive to others tables, engage in conversation with them, etc. I don't believe in not tipping but if I had to give a tip just based on service, he would not have gotten one. The food was good. There seem to be some standouts and the rest is average but good. It was a good change from pizza or seafood. I'd love to give this a second try and say the poor service was just a fluke but unfortunately, I was on vacation so can't easily visit again. read more

We were recommended to eat here by a friend since this was my first time in Anchorage. The place is really cute, great atmosphere and has seating upstairs too, which you can't really tell when just driving by. The server was great at first, came and got our drink order and we got some appetizers. After that, it was extremely slow. Had to wave him down to order our entrees, get a box and our check. Now to the food. The wasabi Brussels stole the show. If I ordered 6 plates of that, and only that, this would've been a 5 star review. Delicious. It's a must have for when you go. The baked mac n cheese was meh. Nothing too special, but still tasted good. Mac N cheese is hard to mess up, in my opinion. The kimchi grilled cheese was awful. I could hardly eat half. By the time it got to me, the bottom half of the bread was soaked through and soggy. Tasted really bland. The fries though, yum. Crunchy and salted perfectly with a great dipping sauce. Honestly, I probably won't be back. Even if it was just for the Brussels. This didn't wow me and I know there's plenty of other places to explore on my next trip. read more

We got the buratta, prosciutto, and melon appetizer and it was amazing! For entrees we got the butter chicken was good but not as spectacular as our other picks! We would give it a 3.5/5 stars. The naan was the most stand out part of this dish it was so fluffy and delicious. For the other entree we ordered the Alaska sockeye salmon and it was phenomenal! It came with a mushroom risotto and the orange sauce they put on top we had to order a side of because it really made the dish! Such a fun place! I love the wall of windows to appreciate the scenery you're surrounded by (too bad it was cloudy when we went...). The bar area is modern/industrial and the upstairs dining area is warm/cozy with a small outdoor patio. The Rustic Goat Nachos with pulled pork is a HUGE dish and the candied jalapeños are a game changer! Good choice. The Thai Chicken Pizza is great. The crust is perfect and the flavors on the pizza are wonderful. It comes with sriracha topping it but I doused mine with more and it was perfect. Service was quick and attentive. Parking has improved with the lot across the street. The service was lacking. Our server was very meek and looked shocked when I replied to her greeting asking how her morning was. We never saw her. Coffee cups were empty & even set to the side of the table to draw attention. The frittata lacked flavor. The pork belly was flavorless fried fat. Bland is the best description I have. I want to like this place more...I love the vibe and setting of this place. I've been a few times and every time, I'm left wishing it was more. The food is just ok...I will say their fries are amazing. It's the prices...for the food you get, it's almost embarrassing that they charge so much. If the food was outstanding and bigger amounts I could justify it, but just NO. They only have beer and wine and that's ok too, just FYI. Trendy. Noisy but friendly. There is outside seating. The parking is tight, but so are the seating arrangements. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. The seating upstairs is more typical with table and chairs. The seating downstairs utilizes stools with backs and a narrow butcher-block bar top. The menu has a lot of variety. Perhaps too much and it's pricey. There are sliders, German chocolate cake slices, flatbread varieties. burgers, pizza, clams, specialty nachos, etc and many craft beers on tap. And Kaladi espresso made fresh. One interest thing about the espresso- if you just want a mocha latte you can simply walk in, pass the seating and walk to the end of the bar and order your coffee, pay, and go. There is recorded music the cooks or serving staff occasionally will turn up if their favorite is up. On the bottom floor you can sit at the bar, or share a bar table with stools at the base of wonderful floor to ceiling windows. Looking up from the bar you can see the upstairs balcony, but very little of the guests. From above looking down, but only if you are seated at the edge, you can see the bar seating. Reservations make sense or plan to wait for seating depending on when you visit. The theme is industrial with dark wood, black trims, exposed beams, and cement finishes. In many ways it is wonderful to visit here, but in other ways it feels a little confusing and maybe there is too much or not enough space for it all. Still I'm always glad I visit perhaps because it feels a little like a niche "Seattle-ish or a Portlandia like" placed off the typical path. read more

We arrived at the Rustic Goat about 8:15pm on a Sunday evening and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but so worth the wait. Great service by Erika. We started with the fried cauliflower, which was tasty and not oily at all. I had the chicken Marsala with cauliflower and kale instead of noodles (doing keto) and it was so good - I ate it before taking a picture. (Erika came up with the noodle substitution, which I was super happy about.). My older son had the stir fried veggies with noodles and chicken which he also ate quickly as it was good. My two youngest shared the nachos, which they enjoyed. They also shared two desserts - the s'mores cup (also amazing) and the chocolate and peanut butter gelato, which was huge with 3 scoops. There are so many interesting items on their menu but I keep coming back to their fish sandwich. The salmon is tender n tasty (no bones or skin) with butter lettuce, fresh tomato, and a crispy potato hash brown inside. Use half your sauce on sandwich and the other half for fries! Bonus kudos for the selection of unique handmade looking plates and cute paper lined baskets. I also like that they offer one of my favorite local beers, King Street IPA. My only advice, be prepared to wait for a table, and if you can't park next to the building there is more parking across the street by the trailers. After a major disappointment at another local Anchorage establishment, it was the very good yelp reviews that prompted me to drive across town to the Rustic Goat...and am I sure glad that I did. A very hopping place...took awhile for someone to leave so I could grab a parking spot. I was greeted upon entry...about 45-60 minutes wait to dine upstairs, but a few available stools here downstairs. This is a very busy establishment, somewhat loud, but also interesting with so many people. Did I mention that the open kitchen is downstairs...and all those lovely smells...I'M STAYING FOR DINNER...!!! I ordered a local IPA...tasty and served ice cold. Following was the soup and then the cauliflower flat bread. OMG...I have read of the story's about all the things you can do with cauliflower. This was my first time experiencing this. a real surprise. Visually this looked like toasted flat bread. The crust is similar to a gram cracker pie crust consistency...sorta. Well, that flat bread was remarkable. Very tasty...!!! Service was flawless, my meal was fantastic... The price was in line with typical Anchorage restaurants. This is very much a hidden gem! I stumbled upon it on one of Siri's roundabout routes to the airport . I've never heard of it or read about it and I tell you it is one of Anchorage's best kept secrets. The food is good, the service is great the two story windows are just gorgeous. Was visiting AK for the first time. Rustic goat was recommended by a local. Food was good (tasting ... see food poisoning mention below), but service was poor. I arrived about an hour before food service ended (the time on photo receipt is wrong ... I was there near 9pm) and I stood for at least 5 minutes waiting to be seated. Then, it was a good 10 minutes before the server showed up. It's like she was pissed and unhappy to be working. Don't take it out on me. I shrugged it off and was happy with the chicken meal. Then at 11pm it started. Food poisoning. Was vomiting all night. If you've had food poisoning, you know how it is. Ugh. I had not eaten from about noon until when I got to the rustic goat, so I'm 99% sure it was because of the chicken. The next day I emailed the owner (email on their website), and notified them that I had gotten sick the night before. I did not receive a response. Still haven't heard back. It would be professional of them to at least say something. Anything. Food poisoning plus non-responsive management is defacto 1 star. Not sure what the take-away from this is. I'll settle on a 3. We wanted to love this place so badly that we gave it multiple chances. Our dinner meal was good, but underwhelming and slightly overpriced. We were just happy the whole meal came out hot this time. The pastry for the empanadas tasted like it was made of biscuit dough. The bison sliders were good, but way too big for sliders. They were two slightly small burgers. The pizza was a bit overbaked for my tastes. The chicken on top had turned dry and hard like jerky. The service has been great each time. They have a good selection of beers. The space is beautiful. But the menu is a little too edgy perhaps. And their kitchen just can't seem to properly execute it. The natural light that shines through the modern structure really illuminates this vibrant establishment in a way that just screams "eat & drink!" Other Yelper's observations about the hippster/ douchey mix crowd are spot-on. But I'm trying to look past that for the food. Hopefully they won't distract from that. Great tap selections including Deschutes. The Deschutes Imperial is amazing. Pretty good wine selection and bottles are reasonably priced. Started with calamari appetizer. This is just indescribable! Candied jalapeño? Didn't know that was a thing. I must have more. Smoked game hen. I'm not sure what words to use to describe this simple little game hen. I can tell you this was by far the best hen preparation i can recall. Brined and smoked beautifully, with tight crisp skin. Paired with an amazing long grain rice with bacon. I gnawed this thing down to the bone--shamelessly. This place invested in their sound system and it paid off. The use of level loading volumes and subwoofers makes all the difference. It's background noise that's pleasing, rather than thin treble speakers blasting and annoying you like strabucks. Well done! Dessert was of my own creation and they were willing to oblige. House made Vanilla gelato topped with espresso. Those in the know call it affogato. Happy to say that whatever hipsters may have surrounded me, my dining experience was not negatively impacted. Outstanding find in Anchorage. We enjoyed our meal much more than at the highest rated restaurants dined at over the previous two weeks. Watermelon salad, elk, king salmon and Moroccan cauliflower were spot on. Service was superb. The organic Malbec was smooth and delicious. On a Sunday evening, they were the only restaurant we visited that appeared to be adequately staffed despite every table full and twenty people waiting. We could not get a same-day reservation; however, we were seated in 10 minutes and when we told our waiter that we were on a tight schedule to catch our plane back to Houston, he took special care to time everything so we even had opportunity for their cheesecake and raspberry ale ice cream float. I'm giving it three stars for two reasons...one is the pricing. It's pretty expensive. The second is the customer service. They have about 10 people working at any given time, so the service should never be lacking. That being said, the only time, bar my birthday,I actually got good service is when I sat at the bar. They're breaded lightly with some delightful spices. They come on a bed of salsa and cream (like a sour cream) I enjoyed the salsa especially. The pizza was interesting and mostly good. The sausage reminded me of kielbasa. The carmelized onions have a roasted flavor and consistency. The potatoes were soft and tasty. I think they must boil them before they put them on the pizza. The dough was soooo soft. Think of a garlic knot. If they had garlic knots the dough would be perfect. The one hang up was the jalapeños or the garlic sauce . They added a weird spice that overwhelmed my taste buds. Ambiance - amazing and elegant. From the tables to the beams in the ceiling, I was impressed. The windows were amazing. So much light and beautiful views. Notables - there were three huge bins of sauces by the kitchen. They all looked delicious. Should have asked to try. If the sun is out, sit outside. Cleanliness - everything was very clean. When we were seated, they wiped off our table and there was maybe two crumbs in the whole thing. Service - this was just okay.
