Surprisingly good! When I arrived to the hotel, my party and I were just looking for a quick something to eat so we came in here. They're basically a coffee shop that also has a few sandwiches. We ate here twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast. The lunch sandwiches were very good! Very generous portions as well. The breakfast sandwiches were very fresh and flavorful and were able to be heated up. Their coffee was nothing amazing but their mocha was pretty decent! It can get busy inside and I watched it go from no line to 15 people deep quickly. read more

come here to use the cafe (the cubby) every day to study, today two security guards came aggressively banging on the door of the stall in the bathroom asking me if i was a guest, i explained that i was a customer of the cafe, and the security guard kept banging on the door shouting "the cafe is closed" (the cafe was very much not closed). the situation felt very threatening. will find a new place to get my coffee before and after work each day read more

Great experience! Highly recommend if you would like a cordial environment to share a drink with a friend or you are in need of a solid space to get some work done. Friendly. Well lit. Massive worktable with convenient plugs. Dope music. Wine. Beer. Coffee. All in all, new favorite place. The staff is on top of things and the space is very clean and well taken care of. If I had a critique, I'd like to see it open until 9 or 10. A late-night coffee shop would be so marvelous in the downtown area. Finally, I will tell you a small secret: If you drive down K street a block or two away from the Captain, I am always able to find street parking. read more

When you're at the Captain Cook or even nearby, The Cubby is a fairly quick option for coffee, snack or sandwich. We were in need of a later afternoon snack to tide us over until later dinner reservations and stopped in, getting a sandwich and fruit bowl. Several premade options and I was pleased that condiments were not already on it, rendering it soggy. It was simple, held us over for a couple more hours and service was pleasant on NYE. Condiments, napkins and a bag were offered and we went on our way. Several others were around enjoying coffee and chitchat. I'm sure I'm be back at some point. read more

Service was "AWFUL," & server did not care. It was Obvious they were short staffed & he was busy chatting with friends at a table Never. Checked on us had to ask the only other waiter & the bus girl for crackers, water refills, a spoon for my soup, etc. I had to go ask for our bill. He went to grab a cup of soup for another table dropped the singular pack of crackers on the floor, he did not even notice that I picked them up as he walked by them several times between his conversation with his buddies & handed then to him. He NEVER REPLACED them or took them to the table where soup was left with client while we were there...The food was pretty terrible Chowder & burger & Cocktails (just ordered one each; they were bad too!) for even a mid Captain Cook restaurant. I love visiting The Cubby in Anchorage. I visit frequently on work travel and the coffee is consistent and the banana bread is generously sized and homemade. The staff is friendly and quick. I also like that The Cubby opens early, which I find isn't always the case with coffee stops in Anchorage. Greeted by friendly and engagingly sincere folks. My coffee was excellent, smooth and mild, with near-perfect flavor. The background music choice is just right for a coffee shop. While visiting Anchorage before our cruise departure we found this coffee shop inside one of the local hotels. Their cold brew was perfect and the selection of sandwiches and pastries was excellent. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the establishment was very clean and modern. If you find yourself in the area be sure to check them out. read more

The newly remodeled coffee shop is finally open! I can't say I'm overly impressed with the latte and breakfast burrito I had though. I got the North Slope breakfast burrito - eggs, cheddar, reindeer sausage, peppers and onions in a jalapeño/cheese tortilla. First off, I'm not typically a fan of "flavored" tortillas and this held true here. They should make at least one of their burritos with a traditional flour tortilla. It was dry and flaky on the outside. Reindeer sausage is such a gimmick and I fell for it yet again. Overall the burrito was average, at best. Vanilla latte was average as well. Vanilla tasted like it was sugar free. The new shop has plenty of space, so that's nice. read more

I was staying at the Captain Cook and needed to grab something to eat real quick. Pro service is quick. Plenty of seating, so good place to wait. Con - only the drink prices are listed, none of the snacks have prices. Also the cash register setup is very awkward, both the cashier and I felt squish, and it was an awkward reach handing over my credit card. In addition, the cash register is right next to the espresso machine, so although I was being helped and had the cashier's attention, the other two employees were trying to continue on their conversation with him while he was ringing me up. I quickly picked out a lemon cake/bar, cookie, and organic energy bar. Imagine my surprise when the energy bar was cheaper than any of the "fresh snacks baked there." The lemon cake was very disappointing, I would not recommend, rather dry not moist or lemony enough. The chocolate chip cookie was big, and tasted pretty good, but again why did it cost more than a manufacture high quality organic bar? This is a beautiful hotel, and this is right off the lobby, so I understand why the prices are high, but it seems unnecessary and deterred me from coming back. read more
