Nice spot for coffee and gathering! Came by for a latte while I waited for my favorite breakfast spot to open up. Corner location with high industrial ceilings, concrete floors, and tons of beautiful light fixtures. Fairly simple coffee menu with a few food offerings (including what looked like fresh pastries for the sweet tooth in you). This went from being my most favorites cafe to being a place I can no longer recommend. Its no longer comfortable. And worst of all the coffee is no longer unique, much less good, They have eliminated their coffee roaster that traveled the world and brought back beans of interest for enjoyment. They clearly use a powder to make it and mine had clumps of powder that never mixed in. Definitely nothing to want to go back for. The coffee and teas are pretty good here. The London fog was creamy and lightly sweetened with vanilla. I love how they make the froth art, thats what I want from a coffee shop that's shows me they know how to barista, it's more pleasing to the eyes to receive a heart on my drink. The breakfast burrito was ok. I'm not a fan of premade prepped burritos. When I ask for extra toppings like salsa and sour cream I want it in the burrito I don't want to have to dip it into the sour cream, this messes up the ratios. The overall ambiance is very comforting and definitely can put you at ease. The barista at the register was quite off-putting when she was super pushy about a tip. Basically steering me away from the screen to tap my card on and towards the tip "monitor" (I was under the impression this was where I need to tap my phone) then I realized exactly what it was and what she was getting at then I proceeded to go back to the actual card reader and tap my phone (surprised when I realized she was making sure to stop me so I could see her requesting a tip so blantantly) also the cup was not very big for the price and I also ordered a molasses cookie, it was almost $3 but definitely delicious. Overall for an average size cup of coffee and a moist sweet and soft molasses cookie.(w a modest tip) it was over $10. I would say a mediocre over-priced coffee shop. I didn't get any food as I expected a donut at work. I'll change that on my next visit. The hotel coffee was unfit for human consumption. I literally poured it out in the frozen parking lot. I was greeted upon entering and my simple order of a large latte was quickly created. I can't tell you what a dramatic difference that excellently pulled espresso made for my day. I was recently on a business trip to Anchorage and wasn't feeling very inspired to work out of my hotel room, so I hopped on Yelp and found this sweet little coffee shop not far away. This place was definitely hopping on a cool weekday morning, and I got one of the last tables next to a window as many, MANY folks were here working. I grabbed an oat milk latte and started sipping while I dove into my laptop. Soon, of course, I was hungry - so I grabbed one of their delish breakfast burritos which was sooooo good and filling. It was such a comfy little spot that I ended up getting a second latte to justify staying even longer and getting more work done! The service was fast and friendly, and there was plenty of parking out front. It's always a better experience when customer service is the focal point of a business and not chatting it up with each other and forgetting people's orders. So much they have to ask about the status and they say they forgot then go back to chatting and you tell them again 10 minutes later and they make excuses about their friends social life. Putting two bagels in a toaster isn't time consuming. How about a little more focus on customers and their orders and not BS gossip in front of said customers. Starting with the positives, Black Cup has what is probably my favorite London fog in town; it always turns out just right, which I've found has been a struggle among other coffee spots. The pricing is also very fair, and honestly, I would say rides the line of being perfectly affordable (I can only speak for the drinks, as I haven't ordered any food here) The major downside for me is unfortunately the layout- there is just not a good spot to wait for your drink unless you want to take up a table, of which there are often none available. The area drinks are served at is very narrow, and there just isn't a good spot to wait for them if you plan to grab your drink and leave- you're always in somebody's way. The other thing I would consider a downside is that, for the most part, it just doesn't feel very welcoming. I've had a few baristas who seemed genuienly kind and were helpful, but for the most part, it feels like I'm interrupting something and being given the stink eye for it. Of course, that is the case anywhere you're interacting with people, but I find it to be the case more often here than at other coffee spots. read more

Excellent little coffee shop. The line consistently stayed busy with new customers so that is a good sign of a great business. It was a breath of fresh air compared to all the little coffee trailer huts around town. And the coffee tasted great! I really enjoyed my iced americano. The cutest coffee shop in town with lots of sitting area/working space. I got a cardamom latte with oat milk and it was perfection. The coffee was smooth and the cardamom syrup added just the right amount of extra flavor. Also got a bear claw they warmed up in the grill and it was delicious!! Stopped in for a quick dose of coffee and loved it! The shop itself has many tables and seemed like plenty of folks were taking advantage of the space and working/enjoying conversation. I personally had the breakfast sausage sandwich and a shaken espresso with oat and earl grey flavor. I LOVED both and was disappointed I only got to visit once during my trip. The earl grey was just the perfect amount of sweet and the sausage patty on the sandwich tasted so much different than what I'm used to in CA- maybe that's in my head?! The black coffee here is pretty good. They have decent wifi, but it will boot you off before at 6pm. closing time is 7pm. I came here to study and take some quizzes. I'm fortunate the wifi stopped before I started my quiz and I was able to connect to my hotspot. For the first hour there was a really loud older couple that were incredibly distracting. I couldn't drown them out on my headphones. I think signage would be beneficial to help keep the peace since many people here were obviously studying and trying to drown them out. read more

The decor is intriguing. A cool mural across the back wall, a chandelier in the middle. A collage of coffee farms. Large windows with tall curtains. Seating includes mostly tables. There are a few hybrid booths, one large round table that had three moms and about 10 young girls. There are two arm chairs with a table between them, and one high top bar area. By 10 am it is pretty busy and almost all the tables are in use. Upbeat music keeps a person subtlety jamming. Matchbox Twenty (or is it Rob Thomas?), Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift. Even some Avril Lavigne. The pour overs I tried were delicious. The descriptions were accurate. Cocoa, pomegranate, cashews (or something like that). And you can ask for a ceramic mug instead of a paper cup. I do wish they offered a decaf pour over. The decaf americano, while an option, just doesn't have the flavor and depth of a pour over. At one point during the visit an employee propped open the back door to bring inventory in. The door was open about 15 minutes and the draft was uncomfortable for my table and about four others. Visiting for the first time with my husband just now and it safe to say it will be the last when visiting anchorage. we got there around 12:30 it was quite busy I order a London fog and he order the covey pour over, we waited around 10 min for the london fog, 20 mins later he was still waiting for his, he got up and let one of the baristas know we were still waiting for the drink at this time they were done with the rush, waited 15 more minutes and still no drink, very disappointed with my drink and left a lot to desire for his since we never got it, ended up just walking out. My boss said he saw this place and also heard it was good. Coming from Hawai'i to here for work definitely calls for more coffee runs in these temperatures. This place definitely had a lot of people in and out - which was good. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly and explained their specialties since we are from out of town. I agreed to try their black pour-over with no added cream or sugar. I also got a cortado because I truly appreciate the intensity of well-prepared espresso's. I'm a frequent traveler who loves local coffee - been in Seattle and Hawaii who indeed have built a great reputation of having the best coffees nationwide. This Cafe was on top of Yelp with great reviews so I figured i'll try and see what the hype is all about. I ordered a simple hot Latte with hazelnut syrup , it tasted a little watered down, might need 2 more shots for the taste to kick in. Hazelnut was also too sweet ( hence they have a sugar free option which I will pick next time ) . Great customer service though, friendly staff, spacious elegant-looking cafe (good place for couples aside from professionals) . Recently my MIL purchased me a gift card and when I went to pick it up the first time, apparently a manager had it and it was not at the shop. Fast forward to today when I asked for it... that manager no longer works for black cup but still kept the gift card. The assistant manager, Sarah, went above and beyond by not only offering to get us a new gift card, but after she purchased it, I realized she had done it with her own money! I LOVED this coffee shop so much that I went three days in a row while I was in Anchorage. If I lived in Alaska, I'd be a regular here. All of their drinks are excellent and the staff is super friendly and fun. If you're looking for a breakfast pastry, get the berry scone. I tried a different drink each day I was here, but I liked my cayenne pepper oat milk latte the best. I didn't have time for a pour over, but their coffees are so high quality that they have to be excellent. I wish I lived closer to a coffee shop this good. So sad we ended this trip with a disappointing cappuccinos from Black Cup. Just goes to show the barista makes all the difference. Today, our barista with rose gold dyed hair, was too busy talking to another customer to pay attention to our drinks. She poured our shots and we watched as she made the milk after, making bitter drinks for us. She also needs some development on foam because as you can see by my newly added photo of her creation next to my canvas tote, the foam was not dense and sweet, nor was it the rich tones of coffee a good cappuccino should be. Next time we visit Anchorage, I'll call to see if the barista who wears glasses is working-- she should teach this other girl a thing or two. read more
