If this was only for the Buffalo wings, Runyon's would easily be a 4/5. Definitely a contender for the best traditional / classic Buffalo wings in the Minneapolis area. That being said, the rest of the menu is standard bar food that we'll executed but not particularly noteworthy. Very simple review - THE BEST WINGS in Minneapolis! Was very busy for a Thursday night, felt bad for the solo server but she did a good job. If it weren't for one thing, this would be your average 3-star pub that does everything decently but nothing great. That one thing is their wings! They are nearly perfect for a traditional buffalo wing - the right amount of heat, vinegar, and sauciness. These alone are worth making the visit. I've probably ordered buffalo wings at no joke 500 - 1,000 places in my life and made them myself 100s of times and helped my bro design the buffalo wings at his restaurant in brooklyn. Been to all the greats in Buffalo plus across NYS] WOW... just wow. I never thought I would find TWO good buffalo wings spots in Minneapolis. Runyon's is the real deal boys. They know true buffalo wings. We went through like 60 or 70 wings at our table, and about half of them were exceptional and crunchy while still being juicy. This is actually a pretty high rate of success. (As I always state, wings are one of the hardest items to do consistently because of the size differences.) I will need to go back another 3 or 4 times to really determine the consistency of the cook, but I can tell you the sauce is A+, maybe even A++. They only have one sauce on the menu and respectfully I would never have asked for a spicier one. I can do ultra spicy, but these seemed right on for what spiciness they should be. Well, I didn't eat 70 wings alone and one of my friends asked if they had a spicier sauce. THEY DID! They had a secret extra spicy buffalo sauce that was ALSO delicious. Well played, Runyon's. You win. On the advice of Minneapolis Yelpers, I was directed to Runyon's to sample the best wings in the Twin Cities. I was not disappointed in the wings, though I was disappointed in my performance (not the first time that has happened, but I'll save the story of my last date for another time). Arriving here via the #4 bus early on a Saturday evening, I was graciously welcomed by the kind bartender who set me up with a nice Fulton's IPA, some seltzer, a small order of wings and a half order of fries. Historically, I have been able to consume similar portions of food with no problem. But at Runyon's, I was beaten by the orange-hued wings of fire. And that's a good thing. First off, the half order of fries was enormous. They were delicious but I barely made a dent in them. Maybe a quarter order should be an option! Secondly, the beer I had on the the barkeep's recommendation was great. Lastly, let's get to the wings. Those little bastards were delicious...the problem was a small order has at least a dozen wings in it! And they're huge!!! Did those chickens come from Chernobyl? I've never seen such meaty wings. The spiciness was the kicker. After the first wing I thought "Oh, these aren't too spicy". After the second wing, I thought "Okay, these do have a little kick". By the eighth wing, my eyes were watering and my nose was running. I love it when the spice eases up on you rather than bluntly hitting you over the head like a Belgian purse-snatcher. I tried to eat all the wings but I just couldn't. They were so good but I was so full. Maybe because I had the combo platter at Kramarczuk's earlier in the day I was off my game and a little over-stuffed, but I'm going to man up and refuse to use that as an excuse. C O O L P L A C E We stepped in here to kill some time , and were totally blown away. Talk about a hip cool place! While this place seems to be rather OLD, it is pretty clean. It probably needs a deep cleaning, but don't all old buildings? The cluttered decor suits me, and is also amusing. We needed an appetizer, and choose the deep fried shrimp. What????? It was NOT, I repeat NOT breaded. What a treat to be served naked shrimp that were just tossed into the deep fryer long enough to get a slight crisp. Yum yum yum. They were accompanied by hot wing sauce and blue cheese dressing. There were 12, so we each got 6. Not huge shrimp, but really good. In my kitchen, I think I will finely chop bacon and mix it with the blue cheese for even tastier results. Another Holy Trinity: Shrimp Blue Cheese Bacon One of the smart things about this bar is that the menu is short and limited. Guess why? My guess is because the KITCHEN is small. There just plain isn't enough room to accommodate a large selection of different foodstuffs. So, do a few things and do them well. I am pretty sure they accomplished that. Last night I had a YEE at a dessert place, and recently I've been craving wings. I figured I would go somewhere close to the YEE and have dinner beforehand. To my extremely happy surprise, Runyon's was two blocks from the YEE location. I had bookmarked Runyon's prior, so I felt this was the universe's way of telling me I need to come here for their wings. MESSAGE RECEIVED UNIVERSE, and COMPLETED! I drove to Minneapolis, after work, and kind of drove around to find the best parking. I had the time for sure. I found a spot on the street, that was really close to Runyon's and close in relation to the YEE. All street parking is metered, which isn't a bother, but when doing the math on it, $3/HR-MAX 2HRs. I got there at 4:15-ish. My event wasn't till 7pm and lasted till 9pm. So mathematically 4-9(roughly 5 hours). $3 an hour. Is 15 dollars, and I would have had to come back to my car once or twice, to feed the meter again, so to speak. There is a lot that is Public Parking 24/7 $10 for the day. Unless there is an event happening downtown. Definitely worth it, and a better price. Plus, if you read the signs correctly, and don't get towed (personal experience), off street parking especially in Downtown Minneapolis, makes me worry less. I apologize for talking not about food so much at the beginning of the post. So.... ON TO THE FOOD EXPERIENCE! I got the wings, of course with Bleu Cheese. I wanted to get the Reuben, I inquired about it, but I didn't really budget for it, and I was there for the wings, so I ended up getting the wings. My order was of the regular size. I would have gotten the Double order for left overs, but the price seemed a little high. Ordered at 4:22pm and My Hot, Crispy, Mouth-Water, Wings, came out at 4:36pm. There were 10 wings in my order, and sadly I had no leftovers. They were nice and hot, and the sauce was nicely dripping all over the wings. The wings weren't drenched which can make a huge difference. The skin was nice and crispy, and each had a really great amount of meat on each. You didn't feel like you were getting ripped when it came to the amount of meat. I had some time to waste while I was in the restaurant, so I tried to eat my wings slowly. That didn't work at all. So thankfully, I sat at the bar, asked for their Wi-Fi password and watched things on my phone while sipping on my soda. The place was somewhat empty, and the bartender was chill and let me just hang. I didn't feel rushed which was nice, and sometimes hard to come by in a place. Overall, a soda and wings, plus tip, $21. Not crazy expensive, but not cheap either. I would come back here and I would recommend it to people, if they are in the mood for Warm, Crispy, Buffalo Wings, and looking for something to do downtown Minneapolis. If people are looking for the best wings in Twin Cities, I don't know if they are the best, they are really good. But not the best. I'd consider them to be great and since they don't offer variety when it comes to their wings they shouldn't be anything less than great classic wings. read more

Best buffalo wings around--try them extra crispy. Not too saucy and not your typical buffalo sauce. They keep it simple and classic with the food but have an extensive drink menu. Probably the best place to get Wings in the Twin Cities! I've been wanting to go to this place ever since I moved to the twin cities. It was a matter of getting people to go with me. So Runyon's is a bar downtown with the best buffalo wings in the city. Since it is downtown prepare to pay for parking if you are driving to Runyon's. Runyon's definitely gives a dive and causal feel. You get to seat yourself and the server will come with you. Usually there is a good amount of spots. They have drink specials depending when you come in. So what makes the wings so good here... first of the buffalo sauce is flavorful, so pack with flavor. The chicken is cooked amazingly where the meat is juicy yet the skin is crunchy. On the pricey end for wings but so worth as you are paying for the quality. We live downtown and have been planning for a while to stop here to try the wings. We stopped by tonight and (for social distancing), sat outside. Their covid policies seemed solid and our server was polite and attentive. We had a nice time. That said .. .The wings? I wasn't crazy about them. The portion, sauce and quality of chicken was fine; I just like a wing with an outer crunch. I'm guessing these wings are baked, (not fried), and I found the sauce combined with the chicken skin to be a bit too slimy. I know that fried wings are not as good for you, but I prefer the texture of a fried wing. If you don't mind a lightly baked wing, then maybe this is your place. read more

Just my style, now that we're nearing the cold and dark time of year. Our server was so friendly and kept our beers flowing. So, if it's so awesome, why only four stars? Well, I'm a condiment whore. The waitress said the cook accidentally made us a full order of fries, but she was only charging us for half...which is never a bad thing, especially since their fries are out of this world, too.
