I started running back in June with a local running group and since it seemed I was the only one using cross trainers (everyone was adamant that I should get running shoes) I went to Run With Us on August 9, 2015 and was helped by Ray to purchase my first ever running shoes. Ray was very attentive in making sure I got the correct pair -- he had me walk and stand to see how my feet positioned as well as using the machine. After he confirmed my foot type, he brought out 4 pairs of shoes and had me take my time testing each one. The service was excellent and I was very happy with my purchases, even though it was the most I ever paid for a pair of shoes. They now have record of my foot in the event I return in the future for another pair of shoes. Eleven days later, the eyelet on my left shoe unexpectedly broke -- and I wasn't even tugging on the shoe lace very hard. After encouragement from my fellow runners, I called the next day and mentioned the problem. They were willing to exchange my shoes for a new pair as long as I had my receipt. After work that day, I mentioned the situation to the first staff I saw, he helped me promptly (I didn't catch his name), and I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes with my replacement shoes. :) read more

This is the only place to go for running shoes. I first went here when I was training for the LA Marathon in 2003 and have been coming back since. Mind you it's not cheap but, its worth every penny. The customer service here is exemplary. They look at your specific needs and don't just throw at you what they have in stock. Run With Us has a 7 day exchange period on your shoes so, if they don't work for you bring em back and get something that does. Proper running shoes prevent injuries so I don't mind spending $100 on shoes. My teenage sons run on the HS X-Country team and track team and I bring them here to get fitted. This is the only place that I will buy my running shoes from. I used to go with Nike's just because the commercials made me buy them haha but after a week I started getting lots of pain in my knees, shins, and calves. I came here after a recommendation from my cousin who does marathons for breakfast and they completely fixed everything. Yes the place is small but it's simple! They only carry what you need and nothing else. All of the workers there are athletes (so they know what they're talking about) and also very friendly, not intimidating at all. The staff member that is helping you will first watch you walk examining your gate to see how your feet move and then bring out a few pairs for you to try on depending what they feel is best for you. You may not have heard of some of the brands (saucony, brooks, asics, etc) but trust the staff! Running shoes usually run about $95-$110 but they'll last for a good 500 miles or so depending on the shoe. Yes, running shoes have an expiration date when it comes to protecting your feet from the constant pounding on the ground. They encourage you to try it on and run around outside to make sure it's what you want so take full use of it. They have their own small parking lot but it's sorta hidden and the entrance to that is on Locust St which is north of Walnut St. You can also park on Locust St but be careful the city only lets you park on one side so read the signs so you don't get a parking ticket. read more

So I went into this store about 30 minutes ago while waiting for the wife. I wanted to try some brooks on and probably take them home. I was never asked during the process "how do they feel?" or "is there something else you'd like to try on?". Nope. What I get is the salesman talking with another chatty customer about what it's like having kids and growing up. They were so engrossed in their own convo that I felt as though I was interrupting. Came here after purchasing a Groupon and I'm so glad I did! I've been having some pain after I run for more than 30 minutes. I came here hoping they would be able to fit me with better shoes. The guy had helped me had me walk around the store so he could see how I stride. He made some notes and brought me some shoes. The minute I put them on I noticed a big difference. I walked and jogged around in them and finally chose a pair. The shoes were pretty inexpensive compared to other places. I have now worn them for about 3 weeks and I am so happy! The pain I was getting is no longer occurring so I have been able to work out better, which in turn has helped me lose some weight! I wish I could remember the name of the guy who helped me. My go-to for shoes - love them! So, you know how, for education, it's best to have professors that have had real on-hand experience in the industry related workforce so that they could teach you real life application material rather than stuff you can just Wikipedia? The workers here all have experience in running/racing - one of the guys and one of the girls competes in and wins local 5Ks/10Ks on a regular basis, and the rest of them, you can see speckled in the crowd at half marathons and marathons. The folks at RwU are really friendly and they always treat you as a customer, not as commission or money out of the wallet. Based off how you walk, what your posture is, and how you strike your foot, they prescribe to you the shoes that best fit you. They highly encourage you taking a run in them around the block to see how they feel. And the best part? They have a 10-day return policy, so let's say you buy a pair, find out that you really don't like how they feel, look, or fit, you can bring it back, no questions asked. Yes, the prices aren't cheap, but they're an established store that must stay open, so they mark up prices from what you may get off the internet. But it's the honest opinion of knowledgeable runners that's part of the package you pay for. They have 'Fun Runs' on Mondays starting at 6pm. There is a 2-mile, 4-mile, and 6-mile group. If you want to put your running shoes to use, I suggest taking part in that. There are monthly raffles for gear and equipment from the store [pretty slick if you ask me]. NEGATIVE POINTS: Parking's a pain. If you park behind the store, there are only 4 spots or so. Park on the street just south of Corson, north of Walnut [can't remember that street's name]. Shaz told me this is the place to buy running shoes, and she was right. I rushed into the store on a Saturday and was quite surprised they there five employees standing in store ready to help me. Usually I have to hunt someone done. I told the fella that I needed shoes that won't give me blister. He noticed where I was having blisters and gave me three recommendations. I told him that they all felt the same and I'm not going to know until I jog around. He said, "No worries, you have ten days to return the shoes if they don't work." I asked, "Huh? I can return the shoes after treking them in mud and doggie poo!?" He said, "Yes." Talk about 100% guarantee! Wow, who knew a good pair of running shoes made the difference. My jog/walk normally takes about 2 hours with the old running shoes --I mostly walked because I would get blisters half way and then I have to walk with a limp home. With my new shoes, I cut the time by 30 minutes (i'm not runnning faster --but just able to jog longer). However, now my knees hurt. BIG SIGH. A couple of years ago I decided to get up off my duff - again - and start an aggressive walking for fitness program. It didn't take long for me to get bored with the 2-mile loop I mapped out near my house, yet I needed something a bit more challenging than the 5Ks I'd done in the past and somehow decided, "Hey? Why not train for a half-marathon?" It's times like these that I want to tell that "betch" in my head to SHUT UP! Well, as luck would have it, I found a group called Team in Training and signed up to train for my first half-marathon - 13.1 miles - in San Francisco. Wouldn't you know that no less than two weeks into training I ended up with plantar fasciitis? Dave L, I've felt your pain! Just so happens that Run With Us came out to practice at the Rose Bowl and did a running shoe clinic the very next weekend. After the gait analysis that everyone else has written about so prolifically, I ended up with about three or four pairs to choose from. I ended up picking out a pair of Asics, and but for one brief fling with a pair of Brooks, I have stayed with the same brand and style since. The cool thing is, even when I see folks from the store at local, non-running events, they not only remember that I am a customer, they also remember which style of shoe I wear! Two years later and I'm four marathon seasons deep into this marathon stuff, and will start my fifth training season in about six weeks. If you ever need to shop for shoes for any kind of exercise, come here! Although most of them cost over $100, I can guarantee that the money you spend is well worth it (yeahh coming from a poor student.) The guy there even got me an extra pair of shoes that I might like, and I ended up choosing that pair instead of the three I chose!!!! They were cute and extremely comfortable. The guy even made me stand on one foot and walk around to see if I needed shoes with arches, and he got me everything I requested. I ended up buying a pair of shoes and an iPhone armband. This store is AMAZING! It is small, but has everything you could possibly need to be a successful runner, short or long distance. The employees there are all runners and excellent athletes. They know exactly what they are talking about. My mother and father first introduced me to this store after the completion of my second marathon left the outside of my knee in severe pain. I was desperately in need of new shoes and they suggest that I get professionally fitted for them. What I though was going to be a long process, was a QUICK 3 minute consultation. The gentleman working the store that afternoon had me walk away then towards him as he evaluated my stride. He quickly noted that I have a tendency to "pronate". The pronated foot is one in which the heel bone angles inward and the arch tends to collapse. This is what was causing the pain on the outside of my knee via my IT band. Learning all this information in a matter of minutes (which I later confirmed as accurate), was amazing and EXTREMELY helpful to my running career. With the help of Run With Us, I was able to purchase shoes that would help support my "pronation" tendency and allow me to run again and continue to train for more races. I am always very impressed with this store and the true care and knowledge that all of their employees exhibit. I will continue using Run With Us as a source for all my running needs. read more

But with the prospect of a half-marathon coming up, it was time to trade in my stylish Nikes for a pair of 'real' running shoes. After a long consult and foot analysis here, decided on a pair of Brooks Addiction shoes. The difference, while running loops at the Rose Bowl, has been noticeable. I came to Run With Us after my shin splints have put me on serious rest for the last week or so. Feeling totally frustrated with my situation and being a day away from finishing my 10k program I decided to get some expert help. What I appreciated about here was that they took the time to look at my gate and my feet to figure out what exactly I needed. I was presented with several different options. Ultimately I chose the same shoe brand I currently use (really hoping it was a newer type though otherwise I should have stuck to DSW). They also didn't try to sell me on any extras. I asked about compression sleeves for my shin splints and he basically said try new shoes and easing up on the running for a bit before going there. I was happy that he wasn't fishing for my money. They also honored a coupon I had although it had expired. I definitely will be back for some more running gear as I get more serious about it. read more

I love this place! They were so helpful and knowledgeable about running. I was in search of the perfect running shoes that worked best for my body type. The salesman (I wish I remembered his name ) took the time to help me find the perfect shoes for my feet. My previous shoes were old and gave me pain when running. As I understand it, Run With Us is Pasadena's running institution. Perception easily became reality as the helpful staff assisted us immediately. After an assessment of gait, step, and foot size, Jose, I'll call him our "footologist," brought out 4 different brands of shoes that addressed my wife's particular needs. She tried on Brooks, Adidas, New Balance, and Asics, taking as much time as women do. There was absolutely no sales pressure, and Jose even advised us to choose the lower-priced shoe if we couldn't tell the difference in fit or performance. Parking is a little tough as the lot is small. While not at all impossible for SUVs and vans to park in the back lot, it's also not that easy either. We actually found street parking 2 blocks away. I would definitely go back there for advice and selection. I can't be sure about how competitive their pricing is, but you don't shop at a place like this for the lowest price -- you come here for advice and to be part of a community of running enthusiasts. Whenever I'm in need of running shoes, this is the place I've always come to and would recommend. The staff are very helpful and they really help you pick the right shoe for you. The few times I've come here, the person who is helping me watched the way I walk and see how my knees and feet land. If the shoe doesn't work out for you, you can bring it in within 10 days and change it out for a different pair. That itself is great selling point, especially when having the right shoe is critical when doing distance runs. Just 1 minor problem with this store... parking in the back is very limited and it can get very crammed very fast. But hey, we're all athletes right? Okay this place is awesome and I am so glad that I found this. I usually Yelp about food, but then realized, hey I need to find other places too! Anyway, I have been trying to get back into running, but was having a really bad hip pain. After talking to several people about my annoyance and hoping to not have to go to physical therapy, I decided to go with the hopefully I just need new shoes approach. I found myself here. The store is tiny and easy to miss on a very busy street, but I'm seriously stoked on my new running shoes. The sales associates there really care about finding the right shoe for you. They had me stand on one foot to check out my balance and where I needed support, as well as walk and hop. After that, the sales associate came out with four pairs of shoes, all which he thought would give me good support. He was super patient and friendly the entire time. Do you like money and time? Then you need to come here because you will save both! They have great customer service, they answer every single question you have, and give you all the information you need to make the right choice in shoe. I was lucky enough to receive help from a girl, I'm not sure what her name is but we both have flat feet and she had also experienced running injuries in her past. She was able to narrow me down to 3 types of shoes and helped me make a choice that I'm sure will lead to great runs and less impact/inflammation to my knee and feet joints. I think I ended up getting the same model of shoe as she did but for men's. But my shoes should improve my efficiency and provide the right shock absorption for my feet. This is a true running store and if your new to running then this place is a must visit. They will get you set-up and ready to go with the right equipment. The people here are passionate about running and its part of their lifestyle, so they have the first hand knowledge to give you regarding their own experience and about anything from finding the right shoes, what questions to ask your dr., how to research on your own online, and what I personally liked is that the person I had shared her personal experiences with running and injuries. This helps me understand my journey through running as a novice/intermediate runner by comparing against a seasoned running veteran and getting some sage-like advice that is easier to understand in first-person as opposed to an online forum. Went in looking for a new pair of durable running shoes. I was greeted by Victor who was very friendly and knowledgeable in any questions I had regarding running and proper shoes. My feet have been SAVED from so much pain. I recently started working out much heavier with lots of running (OTF) and I noticed every time I'm done with a workout I'm limping home. I prioritize my health and I wanted to see what is the deal with my foot. After lots of googling I figured I was having issues with my posterior tibial (flat footed girl). My colleague recommended this place since he's native in Pasadena and I don't regret coming here. I was helped out by a super nice gentleman (forgot the name but they're all good!) he thoroughly explained why I had my pain, my stepping pattern, and brought out 5 pairs and let me take all the time narrowing it down. I landed on my New Balance and priced around $150. Higher prices yes but totally worth it. Since wearing these shoes I've had no after foot pain. He also recommended me insoles for my other sneakers that don't offer the same support and I could not be happier. Measured and re-measured my feet and brought me out a stack of shoes to try on. Apparently I'm as slow at picking out shoes as I am running. YES! Being frugal (and poor), i don't buy shoes often, and only when necessary. Knew it was time to go shopping when my 14 year old pair of New Balance 856s opened right up into two parts (delaminated). The shop where i'd bought them had moved fairly far away. They're still around and have good reviews, but Run With Us has at least as good reviews, is much closer to me, and has one less Yelp $ for pricing (mmmm good), so i went in. Given that my body and life circumstances have changed over 14 years, i didn't want to merely buy the same sort of shoe i already had online: i wanted a new professional fitting. The footwear expert whose name i fail to recall did an outstanding job. (I feel it's OK that i don't recall his name for this review because everyone there i saw helping other people were also doing excellent jobs.) I explained my situation and my needs and goals. He took some measurements both on the traditional foot measuring device (using it more precisely than i've seen people use these in the past), and on a high-tech foot pressure point measuring system. He also studied the wear patterns on my worn-out 856s, which i'd worn in to the store. In a few brief minutes he returned with a big stack of options (since i'd specified i didn't care about brand, etc.)--something like 8 pairs. He gave me plenty of time and space to try each of them on, answering my questions and helping other customers in between. All were really good shoes, and only one pair was obviously incompatible with my particular feet. Did A-B tests with one brand/model of shoe on the left foot and a different one on the right, to help me narrow the options down. With plenty of testing of standing, sitting, walking, and running (sprints in the store and just outside), i narrowed it down to two finalists. I asked the footwear expert to please tell me about the manufacturer's claims for why they thought their shoe was best, why he chose each of these particular pairs for me, and any related information. His explanation, especially why he chose these pairs, was very helpful to me and my final decision making process. Final round: asked about prices and colors, made my final choice, dropped my dead shoes in their shoe recycling bin, checked out, wore my wonderful new running/walking shoes home. They're still on my feet as i type this, seated in my comfy chair. To me, outstanding expertise and personal service like this is worth paying for, especially for something like running shoes which can have so many effects on health as well as comfort. I'd be OK making the longer trip to the new location of the store i used in the past--they did me well. Run With Us did me at LEAST as well if not BETTER, and they're closer! Run With Us has an immense amount of knowledge for a small mom and pop shop. I was surprised when I came in and saw the amount of running products they had in their shop. When I walked in, I probably looked lost because I didn't know where to start. However, Victor asked me if I had any questions and I told him I wanted new shoes, but didn't know where to start. He measured my shoe size, used a electronic foot reader to see my pressure points, and then brought out a few pairs of shoes for me to try. He was patient and got each pair ready for me before I finished trying on the previous pair. After trying on each pair, he brought out more shoes until I tried on about 10 pairs. He made sure to ask how each of them were so he could improve his recommendations and change the lacing on the pairs where I had some difficulty. After finding an ideal pair of shoes, I asked him about insoles and he recommended me three different types based off of the shoe type I was going to use it for and also my arch. Lastly, I asked him for recommendations on knee compressions and he gave me two based off of what I requested. Overall, I came out satisfied with my purchase and will definitely come back for some more specialty gear in the future! read more
