Smart folks over at Ruggles Black...they market keto and paleo dishes which is a huge hit these days. Along with their regular menu they offer a keto and paleo menu. Ruggles continues to keep up with the times and produces exceptional food. Located off 59 right at Buffalo. Indoor and outdoor seating. Their patio is very nice as well as their indoor dining area. They do have bar seating as well (with a full bar). I would suggest making a reservation no matter the day just to be safe. The menu has a broad spectrum of food to satisfy anyone. Salads, tacos, pasta, pizza, short ribs, seafood, chicken, burgers and loads more. OH and did I mention TONS of dessert options (just see my food order). I choose the goat cheese stuffed chicken and it was out of this world! If you can't eat something or watching what you eat they substitute sides, so just ask. But with their new location I am no longer a fan I am now an air-conditioner The new location is down the street from the old location in the upper Kirby area. Complimentary valet parking is the beginning of this upscale keto/paleo experience. The decor is amazing with fantastic art work by local artist Gino Vian and at least 20 chandeliers!!!! The outside area is just as fabulous with string lights, fire pits and beautiful statues. Guys this place actually has a FULL keto menu including desserts and cocktails!! And it's good! I can't even tell you my favorite because it's all good! I can't say enough good things about this place. Being on a keto diet (some of the time), I was BEYOND STOKED to see that they have an entire keto menu. We got there when it opened and waited at the door for just a couple minutes before one of the guys told the hostess staff that we were standing there. After that we were promptly seated. The decor is super cute and aesthetically pleasing, but it's definitely a tight little squeeze or a spot. We got the keto bread appetizer. It was served hot, sitting in a bright green liquid, which I presume was some kind of micro green infused oil/butter but it was not salted. The bread was bland and like... wet... and I asked for butter but they brought out melted unsalted butter which added zero flavor to the bread. Neither of us enjoyed the bread. I got a keto Queen Sophia & my husband got a keto margarita. He didn't love his margarita, but I quite liked it and my drink was ok too. For our meals, hubs got chicken enchiladas and I got the carbonara. Neither of us really cared for our meals. Mine had a sweetness to it that I wasn't expecting and didn't really dig. The hubs didn't like the enchiladas, though I can't really remember what his specific complaint was. We actually both liked the taste of each other's meals more than what we had ordered for ourselves, but still not really happy with it. I really liked the flavor of the enchiladas, but after several bites of gristle, I couldn't stomach any more of it. We ended the meal by splitting a chocolate dessert of some sort that we were both expecting to be somewhat like a chocolate mousse pie, but it was more like a very dense/dry brownie type cake which also tasted weird. I know what you're probably thinking... what did you expect from an entire keto menu?! But I promise you, I have made keto-fied foods and have eaten keto versions of foods from another restaurant as well that were delicious! So, I know it can be done. I came here a few weeks back and all I can remember was the food being mediocre. We ordered salads, burgers, the crab tower, desserts. I mean we had a lot and I think the best thing I tried was the Brussels spouts and the tower. The staff is great but the ambience is a little stuffy and tight. Start with the Queen Sofias and Bourbon Billionaire and its already a great evening! Started early with pepperoni pizza from the limited early menu which was delish! Saved some to take home. What a gem this place is! We stumbled upon it because it was close by to where we needed to go, and I absolutely loved this place! From gorgeous decors inside with chandeliers to the comfortable and beautiful outdoor seatings, it's a a lovely place to dine with loved ones. The food was so amazing! I loved my crunchy kale salad with salmon. The salad was seasoned to perfection, and I didn't know salmon could be this tender while fully cooked/well done. I can only speak to takeout, since I haven't eaten in the restaurant since before covid. For the last 2 weeks, I've ordered the Keto Carbonara and the Roasted Beet & Pork Belly salad twice a week. Pros: quality ingredients, flavors are amazing, great portions Cons: not really cons but I don't like change when it comes to dishes I really like but oh well, it happens. Today was the fifth time I ordered the same dishes and I noticed some slight changes in details: 1) The keto carbonara -- the noodles used were different than they had been in the last 4 orders I had of the dish. They were thicker and bigger and had a bit of a harder crunchy texture. Not as big of a fan. Dish was good but I really enjoyed the texture of the noodles that was in the last 4 orders I had where the texture was softer and seemed to soak up the carbonara splendidly. 2) The flavors in the beet salad was still amazing. I had an outstanding experience here last night for a friend's birthday. The setting: a sultry summer Monday night at 7pm. We made a reservation for an outdoor table (thanks, COVID) and were immediately greeted by one of the most dynamic and engaging servers I have had in a long time. He made sure our experience was top notch, recommending excellent drinks, appetizers, etc and wowing us with his history with the Ruggles family (he has worked with the original Ruggles and now here, so he had a lot of great stories and recs!). Besides the outstanding service, everything we ate and drank was amazing. We started with the brussels sprouts (a must-get), the paleo "queso" (think of it more like a flavorful hummus), and the chicken wings (also falls in the must-get category). For the entrée I ordered the Spinach Chicken - it was soooo good! Cheesy-spinach stuffed chicken with roasted veggies, yes please. The server let me know this was a very popular dish that has been on the Ruggles menu for a long time and I can see why - it was excellent. To top off the night we shared a few slices of cheesecake: the oreo, tuxedo, and strawberry. Oreo was the favorite overall but all varieties were yummy. To drink I had the Ruggles Breezer, a raspberry rum drink; very light and refreshing! Someone else at the table had "The Big Sexy" pork rib stack and let me tell you, it has to be seen to be believed - it is quite the dish! Mouths fell open when we saw how large and over the top this entrée was! All in all, we could not have asked for a better birthday outing. Even despite the Houston heat; the patio was well-shaded with fans and twinkle lights. I will say like others how silly the parking situation is - so many spots for the neighboring Taco Cabana/Pepper Twins. My wife brought me here as a treat, it was her second trip but what a treat it was from start to finish. We were greeted kindly at the door and and sat at a booth. I had the Pasta bolognese with a beef sauce. My wife had the Goat cheese stuffed chicken and both were FANTASTIC. Last night we had the pleasure of visiting Ruggles Black for the first time and had one of the best dining experiences we've ever had in Houston. We started with happy hour (half off drinks until 6 pm - excellent value) and shortly after I posted a photo on my social media Chef Bruce came up to us and introduced himself. He was very friendly and continued to stop by once we were seated for dinner. We received a complimentary appetizer from the chef. It was the paleo angry shrimp. The shrimp were huge and we really enjoyed the yellow curry sauce. What a delightful surprise! My sister and I ordered the same entrees - snapper "fish and chips." OMG it was the best, freshest snapper I've had in a long time and we live near Galveston. That really impressed us. It was extremely flaky and we loved the almond flour batter. The sweet potato fries were also a hit. Of course, had to get dessert. I ordered the white chocolate bread pudding, as I was a fan of the one at Ruggles Green back in the day. It is still divine! My sister tried the CPD brownie. Chef Bruce continued to check on us and made us feel like family. I noticed how friendly and caring he was with guests throughout the restaurant. I came here for a lunch meeting around 11:30. It was not overly busy but we also had a reservation. We ordered salads - Kale Caeser and the Carribean Salad. Both were very good and flavorful. I especially enjoyed the ample amount of fruits and vegetables included in the kale caeser. They are also very big portions and come out on your plate as a tall tower. Cant tell you enough how good it was..i didnt even get time to take a photo. Im already craving to go back. Service was nice. Parking was easy and its conveniently located off the freeway and kirby. There is also a private parking lot for this restaurant. FOOD: Baked Goat Cheese Salad (4/5, Spring Mix, Almond Crusted Goat Cheese, Sundried Tomatoes, Apples, Cashews, Pecans, Sundried Tomato Dressing): Before this, I didn't fancy goat cheese that much. Now, I will sometimes incorporate goat cheese into my homemade salads. It was fantastic. Great summer salad. I'd even add some strawberries! I can assure you this is not some normal 1 star review. A valet driver hit my daughter with a car during our meal and management did nothing. Read on to learn what happened. This evening our family of 4 chose to have family dinner at Ruggles Black. Half way through dinner one of the valet drivers was backing into a parking spot directly behind our table in the patio seating area. Going too fast and absent of spacial awareness, the driver backed into the fence, pushing the fence into the bench our daughters were sitting on, knocking one of them into the dinner table. It all happened so fast. My wife jumped up and rushed to check on our daughter, who was incredibly shaken up. Thankfully, she was not physically injured from what we could tell, but it did cause anxiety for the evening. Upon the conclusion of the meal, our server brought us the full bill. Nothing comped. No percentage off. Every item charged. I told the server that I was happy to provide her with direct tip and take care of her as this was not her fault, but that I would like for the manager to take care of our bill given their valet driver ran into our daughter. The manager, who had previously visited our table after the incident, actually had the audacity to come back to our table and ask us what the problem was this evening. The amount of lying, blame shifting, and story backpedaling was downright disappointing. From telling us that the valet are a separate entity and pay Ruggles for the ability to park cars (mind you there is no self park option at Ruggles Black), to claiming that he did not know of the incident, only to claim in the next minute that the Shirley temples he brought out earlier was to make up for the incident. Then, he claimed it was not his call but rather that of the owner and Executive Chef, Chef Molzan, who said he would not be comping our meal as it was not their fault. We ultimately paid our $111.00 bill, 20% tipped our server, and left. Honestly, our bill did not set us back financially. If it did, we have no business eating out. However, the principles of the manager and owner of Ruggles Black left something to be desired. The right thing would have been to comp our meal, apologize genuinely, and let us know they would talk to the valet company to ensure this incident WS properly noted. None of that occurred. It's a shame that greed, dishonesty, and a lack of empathy was what was actually on the menu at Ruggles Black. This isn't the type of review where I tell you, the reader, that you should never frequent Ruggles Black again. You do what makes you happy and fills your belly. For me and my family, today was the last time we will dine at Ruggles Black, and our bill was the last money we will ever spend there or any other restaurant owned by Chef Molzan. If $111.00 means more to you than making the situation right, perhaps you should re-evaluate your pursuits in the hospitality world. If they had made right by us, owned the fault, and comped our meal, I promise we would have returned. It would have shown that they have heart, and I'm always happy to do business with people who have heart. Tonight was one of the more disappointing experiences I've had at a restaurant. It felt like we weren't cared about. It felt like we were treated as if we were stupid. We were talked to as if we were annoying complainers fabricating an issue to get a free meal. It was a sad dining experience tonight. So, if you read this far, perhaps consider this story the next time you think of dining in or ordering out from Ruggles Black. If you do, more power to you. The incident tonight didn't happen to y'all. That said, be warned that should you have an issue with service or experience an unsettling incident, don't be surprised by the response you receive from management. Terrible! First of valet was a drag, took 20 minutes to get the car to valet service. It's a small area. We sit down for a friends bday and it's a big table like 16 people. Drinks were good, but food came out at different times, didn't know what food order belonged to who. They ran out of food on the menu, so others had to reorder, why wouldn't the server tell us upfront? Then a person had an allergy for nuts, she was served nuts in her food. It could've ended bad if she didn't catch it. But overall service was terrible and just not a good experience from it being so highly regarded. read more

This is a great place to eat if you are keto or gluten free. Most of their desserts are gluten free because they use almond flour for their cheesecake crust. Their carrot cake is also gluten free. All of it is very good and doesn't taste weird like some gluten free foods do. I tried their fried chicken. It wasn't greasy because of the almond flour they coated the chicken in. It comes with a side of veggies but I chose sweet potato fries instead. I thought the coating would taste weird but it was actually really good and light.
