As soon as you walk in, you get immediately seated. Service was spectacular, the servers make sure you're taken care of. Ambiance in the restaurant was amazing. Food was a little warm coming out, but gets 3 stars due to the flavor of the chicken, no seasoning. The mix with the sweet heat and French toast, is a surprising combination. Mimosas aren't strong enough. There's more juice than champagne. Biscuits were too dry, and grits had no flavor. Omelette was amazing, this place is a hit or miss, depending on the cook. Love this location in downtown Mobile. It was pretty busy for a Saturday brunch but we got seated quick and the server was really nice! She was attentive and recommended a few of their signature dishes. The carrot cake pancakes were to die for! The bacon was perfectly crispy and my mom loved her Florentine omelet; perfect sized, taste great, and was fluffy. I also had the Ruby mimosa which was perfect just for one. The overall feel of the place as displayed by the employees is very laid back, relaxed and not an extreme sense of urgency. We are part of a small conference group and arrived shortly after noon for lunch. There were 5 people in our party. The space is well decorated and gets good sunlight, has fun drink options, and good foot traffic so although it wasn't packed, they have a consistent stream of business. Terrance was our server who assumed we were waiting on another person for our group so he didn't greet the table for 10-15 minutes after we sat down. After he finally came over, he asked if we were waiting on another and we said no, so then he apologized and took our orders. Then we waited. Our server didn't check back in with us at all to let us know the status of our orders, but around 12:50p, I did ask if he had a status update. He said no, that he looked at the screen and saw that it had already been 20 minutes so he was hoping it came out soon, and also apologized because there were only two cooks on site at the moment. Right after that, our food was delivered by one of the managers who asked which conference we were with. He said they (the restaurant) are usually notified when there's a conference in town so they can be prepared. I had the cobb salad, which was just OK, but not good enough to stand out or make me want to order it again. 20% gratuity is automatically applied to your check, but that is not posted anywhere on the website nor on the menu. Some places implement the tip on parties of 4 or 5 or more, but they let you know. Here, the tip is automatically added, and the handheld gives you more tip options, but they don't tell you the tip is already added, so it's an unspoken way to get more tips from your tables. To me, wasn't worth it. Wasn't worth the wait and the food didn't make up for the wait, plus the untold added gratuity, I wouldn't return or suggest this place to others, but I also wouldnt stop them from trying it out. A friend and I decided to try brunch here today. It wasn't her first visit but it was for me. I joined the waitlist through Yelp, and thank goodness I did! It was an estimated 45 - 1 hour, and it took every bit of the 1 hour wait before we were seated. We each ordered the holiday Gingerbread Latte drink-- hers iced and not boozy, mine hot and boozy. I chose rum as the liquor of choice, and when I tell you it was deliciously strong, I am not fibbing! She ordered the Biscuits & Gravy for her meal, and I ordered the Migas (no cilantro!) with shrimp added. I also got some breakfast potatoes on the side. The entree was wonderful, and while the potatoes had good flavor, they were a little soggy for my taste. I expected them to be a little crispy, and they weren't. Our server was wonderful! It's Saturday so don't expect the in-and-out experience. The food... Cheese grits good. Three little pigs omelet... Both my wife's and mine were burnt. Like burnt crisp on the bottom. I've had a lot of their items and never been disappointed. The sweet hot chicken with French toast bites will send you over the edge though. It's the perfect balance of sweet (with maple syrup and powdered sugar) and spicy (the hot honey glaze is *chefs kiss*). And I don't know what kind of sorcery southern voodoo makes their French toast bites so light and fluffy but also crispy... but holy crap it's amazing. This place was great for breakfast. I had the Peacemaker with the Cochon and Fried Chicken. The chicken was very good, and the Cochon was excellent. If you're a fan of fall apart meat like confit or rillettes, get the Cochon. My husband had the shrimp omelette. He said the shrimp tasted very fresh. My favorite well I loved all of them, but one tasted like lavender! That one made my feet do the happy dance! The menu has so much of my favorites, but I'm trying to my weight. Now, mind your business because I ordered the Avocado Toast with Salmon plus the buttermilk pancakes and really wanted the Banana Foster French Toast. I like my yolk cooked, so I requested fried hard to compliment the texture of the bite. The salmon was fresh, lightly seasoned, and stacked high! The grain buttery toast was lightly toasted with just the right crunch. Not hard and not soggy. The pancakes are little heavenly clouds light in texture, buttery, moist to melt in your mouth, crunchy edges, and not too sweet. Disappointed. Disillusioned. Deceived. How is it possible for so many people to actually love Ruby Slipper Café? I can't figure it out for the life of me. This is one of those that I point blank disagree with the reviews. My experience with this chain was lackluster at best. Let me explain. I was dying to go eat there. Dying! Whether it be in Pensacola, Mobile, or New Orleans, a visit was eminent, and so, we visited the Mobile location on our road trip as it was walking distance from our hotel. We were there early enough that we beat the rush. From start to finish, I don't think we were there even 45 minutes. That should tell you something. Sigh, while the décor may be adorable and the staff generally is polite, the food is abysmal. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but then, maybe so did the person who went with me. We started with drinks. He had some apple juice and I had a cappuccino. The cappuccino was more reminiscent of a coffee milkshake than an actual coffee. It was foamy and weak and this couldn't even wake up a person requiring a small caffeine hit. To put it bluntly, we went to Starbucks after. As for food, he ordered from the à la carte menu. Specifically he had two eggs sunny side up, pork sausages, and breakfast potatoes. The eggs and sausages weren't properly heated and the potatoes were overcooked. I chose to try their signature gulf shrimp omelette, which came with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. The omelette was under seasoned and just felt as if a bunch of ingredients were thrown in together and just barely cooked. The breakfast potatoes once again were overcooked. The only saving grace was the biscuit and its butter that wasn't butter. Seriously I think it had cinnamon in it? Oh, and did I mention the chairs were extremely uncomfortable and that we were freezing our butts off even with sweaters? Definitely not a fan. I struggled hard rating this restaurant and I think I'm being kind giving them two stars, but one-star reviews are for those never again places and I can't say I wouldn't give Ruby Slipper Café a second shot. read more

Bomb food. If you're looking for some good old southern cooking this is your place. Make sure you make a reservation because you could be waiting a while before you get in. We were lucky enough to find a spot at the bar, where the bartender greeted us with a smile and offered us one of their specialty drinks or just a cup of coffee. My daughter and I had breakfast together, and we couldn't have been more pleased. I used their online waitlist, which estimated our wait time to be seated at 20-30 minutes. Our drive to there location took us exactly 25 minutes, and we were ushered to a table as soon as we walked through the door. It couldn't have worked out better. We had zero wait time before we were seated. Our waitress wasted no time in getting to us and taking our orders. The food was delivered to us in a surprisingly short time, and it was evident that it was all freshly cooked, nothing pre-prepared. We both order the Sweet-Heat Fried Chicken on French Toast Bites and Strawberries. It was incredible. I don't remember the name of the appetizer we ordered, so I shall refer to it as Candied Bacon, because that's pretty much what it tasted like, a delicious way to prepare and serve bacon. First of all Kristan our server was amazing. She got us coffee right away and had a smile the whole time. She was great in that she told us all about the history of the restaurant which was fun to learn about. She kept our coffee filled and the water filled too. We started with the French Toast Bites which were so delicious. I had an iced vanilla latte which was perfect. My boyfriend had the Benedict combo with the chicken benie and the pork benie.
