    Rueben Sandwich with Fried Okra

My wife became interested in this place and becausep it had been years since I had been to it, I agreed that we should give it a try. Located in downtown Fairhope, Alabama, it was busy on the Sunday morning that we visited, but not too busy to make our wait for a table long. We were sitting at our table within 15 minutes after our arrival. Julwin's reminds me of the old, fine southern style restaurants of my childhood. When eating out was an unusual and special event for most people. The restaurant owners, knowing this, would have fine linen table coths and napkins, friendly and helpful waitstaff, a not overly extensive menu items, but just enough items so that the excellent cook staff are not overwhelmed and can focus on preparing their dishes at an expert level that customers expected. There aren't many of these old style restaurants anymore. But the ones that continue serving are holding on to a tradition of serving fine foods, at a reasonable price. Julwins is clearly one of these. It appeared from watching the crew at Julwins that they were well trained, cared about their the service they delivered, and so I was not surprised at the speed with which the waiter brought our orders to our table. I chose the "Green goat omelette." An omelette made with goat cheese and avocado. With it there were grits and a biscuit as my sides, but I requested an order of pancakes as a third side. I always have to try the pancakes. My wife chose a Rueben sandwich with a side order of fried okra. She later commented that she wished her Rueben had more meat on it, but she liked it and the excellently battered and cook fried okra. My omelette was delicious, the grits perfect, and the biscuit so beautiful that my wife commented on how enticing it was, She insisted on buttering it for me, and informed me that the cost of this service was that I had to share half of the biscuit with her. Which I happily did, only to learn that she was seriously considering eating the whole biscuit as she warned me to eat the other half or she would. i did. It was perfect. My two pancakes arrived thin, and unappetizing in appearance. However, I noticed that they great flavor, and even though they weren't tall and fluffy, as I prefer, they quickly disappeared down my gullet. So I guess they were actually pretty good. Conclusion: if you're looking for a quiet, clean, comfortable and easy going restaurant that serves excellent food, this is it. The wife and I may have a new favorite.

Needed some breakfast and Julwin's didn't disappoint just walking in was greeted supper fast and everyone was friendly. Seated in less than 5 min on a Sunday morning not to bad! Got Coffee and 50/50 Sweet Tea and both were great the coffee was not weak like most places. My wife always a Biscuits and Gravy fan had to try them and compare to her favorites (Waffle House) and she enjoyed Julwin's the biscuits were soft and the gravy tasty she said, maybe a little more spice (pepper). She also ordered the pancakes and they were very good l, great flavor and fluffy. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and it was fork cut good! Gravy needed some pepper but meat was super flavorful. The hashbrowns were crunchy and good as well. Will return!!

We got the last table at 9:00 on a sunday

This charming breakfast place did not dissapoint. They have a system and tables seem to move quickly. We sat near the entry and saw the turnover of tables. Many people work here and appear to work in unison. Our hostess seated us, and took our drink order and returned with the coffee and hot tea and also brought waters. Our waiter arrived pretty fast as well. He took our order and was off. We enjoyed conversation at the table as the ambient noise level was low. She ordered eggs Florentine with hashbrowns, and I ordered the traditional omelet with sausage and chedar cheese it came with hashbrowns and a biscuit. She enjoyed her meal with the eggs cooked exactly as requested. My eggs were lite and fluffy and the sausage tasty a very god omelet. The biscuits, oh my... that is a biscuit. Very good and buttery, I had 2. Worth noting was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Parking on the street is plentiful in the morning hours on a Sunday. All employees are wearing the same logo tee shirts and shorts in black. It is very uniform look and professional looking. We will definitely be back.

Great brunch option if you are visiting Fairhope! We went on a Saturday mid morning and had about a 20 minute wait. We ended up walking around at one of the nearby stores which was fun. The food was season well! I loved the shrimp and grits. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Will definitely be back!

Great cozy feel with great service and amazing food! Even on a Sunday morning after church the wait wasn't very long. The food tasted incredible and didn't take long after ordering.

Julwin's is in a cute walking area. Service was great and the food was delicious. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and it was the best I've had! Coffee was also hot and great tasting.

This was not a hard and solid decision on my part. Instead I had decided that if I had my druthers, I would not eat there. Of course when it is my babécita's birthday my druthers were of no consideration and I found myself again at Tamara's for a Saturday brunch. We arrived to find the main dinning area to be full, and since we didn't feel like eating in the open to the outside area, we learned that we had an estimated 20-30 minutes wait for a table. Their was six to eight customers waiting around the hostess's stand inside, with another six waiting outside under a covered area. We decided to wait outside, but after about 15 minutes a rain shower began. The kind people waiting on the benches and standing under the awning encouraged us to move in further from the edge where they we were getting wet. A couple standing moved into the restaurant to make even more room for us. The hostess, seeing that it was raining outside when this couple opened the door, came to the door and invited us all in, announcing that she would make room for us all. Which she promptly did. My wife had informed the hostess of my needs, and had requested a corner table for ease of access, but once inside the restaurant, I noticed that the table arrangement seemed less crowded, which helped to ease my concerns about getting to a table. As it happened, right at the 20 minute mark, we were informed that our table was ready, and we were led to a table, not on a corner, but to a table at the end of a row of tables, and against a partition. I found this arrangement even better than our requested corner table, as it meant that I had no foot traffic behind me that I might inadvertently bump into, or bump into me. I was grateful for the evidently experienced hostess working out such a fine alternative to our request, and doing it in such a timely manner. Now I get to the food, and wait staff service. All I can say is that Tamara's management has both pegged to the highest degree. Our waiter appeared immediately, took our orders since we had perused the menu while we were waiting to be seated. As for our food, my birthday girl had the Spinach Eggs Benedict, and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both were excellent. Neither of us had a single complaint, and my wife, who is fascinated with Tamara's long list of various types of Eggs Benedicts, promised that we will be back for many more visits to try each one. I am grateful that I was forced to forego my pledge not to patronize this establishment again, as it provided an opportunity to learn how the good people at Tamara's made adjustments that allowed my experience to be enjoyed more fully. I am also grateful in that we can continue to enjoy their excellent food.

First off, the ambiance is very nice--comfortable, welcoming, and a great setting for a casual evening out. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive and friendly, which definitely made a positive impression. As for the food: * Raw oysters ($22): Fresh, plump, and overall very good quality. That said, it almost felt like each oyster had a bit of added salt, which threw me off a little. Not bad, just slightly off from what I'd expect. * Sushi-grade ahi tuna appetizer ($14): This was one of the highlights--very good flavor and nicely prepared. * Gumbo (large - $12): Probably the biggest disappointment. I'd rate it about a 5/10. It wasn't terrible, but it lacked depth and richness compared to what you'd expect in this region. * Happy hour mimosa ($3) and margarita ($6): Solid for the price--no complaints there. Total came out to about $62 cash ($64.30 with card fee), which feels reasonable for what we ordered. Overall, this is a place I'd come back to if I were already in the area and someone suggested it, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. If I did return, it would likely be for the oysters or the ahi tuna. Good experience, just not quite memorable enough to push it past three stars.

It honestly feels a little like you stumbled into a hidden spot on vacation. The food was solid across the board. You can tell they actually care about what they're serving, everything tasted fresh, not heavy or overdone. The menu has a great mix, from burgers to pasta and seafood, so it's easy to find something no matter what you're in the mood for. The shrimp and grits and the pasta dishes are delicious , and even the appetizers were on point. Service was just as good, friendly, attentive, but not hovering.
