I am from Tanner Williams Alabama so was new to this restaurant. I was looking for a good home cooked meal and saw this restaurant on yelp. I had 2 hours to kills so thought I'd give it a try. All I can say is WOW!!! I sat down and had 3 servers tending to me Immediately. After learning the menu options, I ordered the pot roast with field peas, baby limas and Mac n cheese with Mexican cornbread. The meal was on my table so fast I couldn't believe it!! It was hot, delicious and more than I expected with flavor. I was so surprised at how fast the service was, I timed the lady who sat next to me to see how fast her food came out. From the time the server took the order until it was set in front of her was 1 min, 40 sec... and it took me a few seconds to grab my phone and hit "stop"!!! As I ate, I was sitting very close to the door so I was front row to lots of in and out action. The servers were just so happy! They were working as a team, helping each other. There were a lot of regulars that came in because the staff knew their names and personally greeted them. There were a lot of veteran customers (the hats gave it away) and it was nice to hear people stopping by their tables and thanking them for their service. Overall, the environment and experience was pleasant, welcoming and memorable. I finally ordered some coffee and because it was my first time to the restaurant, the owner brought me a sampler of 3 desserts. I could taste the freshness of the blueberries in the blueberry pie. The chocolate dream pie was smooth and the right taste of richness. But, the banana pudding had a flavor that was different from the ones I have had in the past. You will completely miss this little place if you don't know it's there. It's only open M-F from 11-2:30. Let me tell you: get in line now! It's scrumptious! Everything is made fresh each day and it is evident! The chalkboard holds the day's hot food options and side item options. These rotate out daily. They also have a paper menu which reflects their sandwich choices. We chose the pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy and the squash casserole (at the recommendation of our lovely server). It was the biggest plate of home cooked goodness I have ever had! The pot roast was cooked to perfection-not an ounce of fat on it. The mashed potatoes and gravy were creamy and the squash casserole was covered in ritz cracker crumbs, like a good casserole should be! For dessert, I selected the banana pudding. The desserts change out each day, but they always have banana pudding. I have never had a warm banana pudding with merengue on top. I am not a merengue person. I am now a merengue convert. Spectacular little cafe with a solid menu and great prices! My husband and I found this place just by chance... and so happy that we did. The staff was attentive and friendly and the food was remarkable. My husband had the French dip with pasta salad on the side. The meat was perfectly seasoned and tender, my husband said it was the best French Dip he's ever had. I had the Turkey club with a side salad. As you can see, they pack these sandwiches with goodness. I had to take one half home (my teenage son was more than happy to see that in the fridge after school). Our daughter had the grilled cheese with fruit. I was pleased to see a true fresh fruit dish. For casual dining and home-cooked meals, Cheryl's is the place. "Home-cooked" applies only if your mom added little extras to everyday foods to make them interesting and flavorful. Everything is made from scratch. Save room for dessert. There's a rotation, but banana pudding with meringue is the only standard on the menu. They sell out every day. I had crawfish bisque (not something MY mother made) for the first time today and it was amazing. Their yellow squash with sauteed onions and Ritz crumb topping is one I order EVERY time. Shrimp salad on avocado was refreshing with fresh Gulf shrimp - a nice cool entree on sweltering summer days. I heard people around me raving about the strawberry pie using Baldwin County strawberries, but I had filled up on other delicious options. Everytime I eat here, they've added a room, or rearranged traffic flow, or added a bathroom. Cheryl's is definitely doing everything right. The health rating is 99. The wait staff is cheerful, attentive and helpful. The ONLY thing I don't like about Cheryl's is that they have limited hours. (M-F; 11a-2:30p) but this may explain why they consistently serve quality food...they do self-care on their off days, family time is a priority. These are pleasant salt-of-the-earth people. My wife and I had lunch at Cheryl's Cafe in Spanish Fort, Alabama.  It doesn't look like any thing special from the outside, but it was highly rated so we decided to give it a try.  Boy was that a good decision.  This is the best of Southern cooking.  You know your in the south when the restaurant is across the parking lot from the Piggly Wiggly grocery store.  This is like coming home to your mom's cooking....only better.  Yes, there really is a Cheryl and yes she is working there.  The staff feels like your talking with family, and I mean the ones you like, not the ones you put up with.  When we first walked in we had to pass these two HUGE cakes.  We didn't have any ourselves, but I noticed there was nothing left on either plate when I walked by again.  The slices I saw delivered to the table next to us were gigantic.  The menu's were up on a blackboard in each of the dining rooms.  As they ran out of something, they just erased it.  They are only open until 2pm. We both had pot roast, but my wife had squash casserole and black eyed peas.  Mine came with mash potatoes and gravey plus green beans.  We both had corn bread.  The squash casserole was a little different in that it had Ritz cracker pieces in it.  My mashed potatoes and gravey was such a large portion you could have made a meal out of that alone.  The pot roast was very moist, tender and plentiful.  Corn bread can tend to fall apart, but this corn bread held together better than most while also having a very mild, yet flavorful taste.  But in our opinion, the star of the meal were the green beans.  At first they didn't look all that special,  I mean they're just green beans, right?  Wrong.  We found out that there is a secret ingredient that Cheryl used in order to get her own kids to eat green beans.  Besides adding bits of bacon and butter, she also adds brown sugar.  Wow, what a difference it makes.  The atmosphere isn't the typical plastic feeling you get from most "modern" restaurants.  This is more like being at your mom's kitchen table.  Everything was very neat and clean.  Back when I owned my own restaurant,  I had a young man who worked for me that taught me a phrase that I have never forgotten.  It's not clean unless it's Momma clean.  Cheryl's Cafe, including the rest rooms are definitely "Momma clean".  If you are anywhere close to Spanish Fort, Alabama (close to Mobile), you have got to try Cheryl's Cafe. read more

We discovered this Lunch only place by happy accident. This first time we arrived just before closing and were welcomed in and told to take our time and enjoy. We were the only customers as they were literally at the end of their day. We had huge sandwiches, Reuben and Monte Cristo, and the sides, Squash casserole and field pies were excellent. But almost not as good as the Banana Pudding! A second trip brought out the delicious Chicken and Dumplings. Service was fast and extremely friendly. Highly recommend! read more

I went here with my mother for a relaxing lunch. She has been there many times and my brother had been acquainted with the owner. The food was very yummy and the service was excellent. The place is a little small and my star knock is because were seated too much in the kitchen and drink prep zone and my chair was constantly being run into -- wasn't deliberate, I was just in the wrong location. I had green beans, lima beans on rice, squash casserole (almost as good as my mom's...almost) and a yummy chunk of cornbread. I also had the broccoli casserole which I didn't love only because it had more peppers in it than necessary, but everything else was fresh, delicious, and just what my stomach wanted. It was a tremendous amount of food for a lunch portion and we definitely had leftovers. This is a great little locally owned and run restaurant and it's obvious in their offerings that they out their heart and soul into the recipes. Great for a lunch with a friend or family member. Wow! What amazing service! We were driving through with our RV and called to see if their parking could accommodate, they said yes, but they were about to close! This little home-cooking place is only open for lunch Monday-Friday. I lucked up and made it by there for take-out one day. I ordered the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread dressing with a roll and a glass of tea. The hamburger steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the potatoes appeared to be homemade. The gravy was likely from a mix, but it was good and they weren't stingy with it. The dressing, well, flavorful dressing with a cornbread dressing (not stuffing) texture is mere impossible to find here. They had the texture right, but it was a little dry and lacked that yummy flavorfulness of celery, chicken, sage, etc. It wasn't bad, but not great. I probably wouldn't order it again, but this is one of two places around here that has the texture right. All in all, it was a mighty good meal for a great price. My friend & I happen to be in Spanish Town for the first time and decied to stop by Cheryls for some coffee. I have no excuse.... This review is WAY LATE in coming !!! My apologies. Cheryl's is by far the best restaurant for lunch on the Eastern Shore. (..and way beyond) I say lunch only because they are only open for lunch service. Were they to add breakfast and/or dinner services I am as well confident of their success In these areas. I cannot speak for their owner but believe a conscious decision was made to focus only on the lunch service and be the very best . They have accomplished that in spades. Key to the success are the service and kitchen personnel They all have one goal when you walk through the front door; That being for all of their customers to have had the best meal and friendliest service available. The servers treat all of the tables as their table; not just the ones to which they are assigned. We know most if not all of them by sight and name being greeted by all when we walk through the door. Last but certainly not least, the food. THE F-O-O-D !! Great Food !!! No matter what is ordered it comes out fresh, hot/cold as needed and ready to eat, The dessert options as well are always great ! (If you have room...) One final note, we have as well used Cheryl's for catered events with the above attention paid likewise to their service and food.
