Coffee lived up to its reputation! Absolutely delicious and a great atmosphere. We woke early for a road trip and had planned on grabbing breakfast, but their pastry case was empty and the taco truck was not open yet. First, the atmosphere of this place, homey-chill vibes, both inside and outside are just spacious enough, the workers are very polite, and quick service. Music was my favorite indie chill hip hop. Menu provides a variety of options. Good seating with outlets are provided. A small critique, yet not necessary is that the drip can be a little more diluted. It was a little concentrated and once I topped off my drip with 2-3oz of water, the drip was more appealing. First of all, shout out to whoever runs their Instagram account. They are on it! Before I visited I reached out through IG to see if they had any decaf options, and they responded so quickly saying they had decaf espresso as well as pour over options. Today, we were downtown and decided to give it a try, and wow! My mom and I decided on iced lattes. Her's was decaf vanilla and mine had honey syrup in it. They were both AMAZING! So Nova Espresso is currently brewing in a "pop-up shop/donations only" capacity while permits are being cleared and their location is being built in Downtown Mobile. I happened upon them last weekend and was thoroughly impressed with their coffee. I found out that they're brewing great beans from Texas, and I can't deny that they're ON POINT! My friend gave them the crown of serving THE best Americano she's ever had. I gave a nod to the killer iced vanilla latte I consumed at the speed of lightning. The staff (the owners) is quite personable to boot! If you spot them around town, give them a try, you won't be disappointed. This place is kind of tucked away so I had to drive around to find it and then locate a parking space. It is on a corner with its own building and the place was very bright and clean. We had to wear masks to go in and order, but sat outside to drink our coffee. I typically order a black coffee to measure standards and this was pretty good, not the best, but certainly not bad. Nice, modern coffee shop in an up-and-coming area of Mobile. They have some creative coffee drinks on the menu, like a tonic mixed with coffee, that were just OK to me. Patiently waiting for this store front to open so I can officially call myself a coffee drinker. My normal coffee shop order is a hot tea, or maybe a chai latte, since I find coffee too bitter, and the amount of cream and sugar I need is offensive. When I caught this pop-up at brunch I ordered a mocha from the menu that was being offered on a complimentary/donation basis, and I'm so glad I tried it!! I was blown away that the drink was so smooth, and not bitter at all, without the sugar rush. I look forward to seeing their tea selection, but mostly can't wait to explore the coffee menu and hopefully find more that I can enjoy without having to put it in the dessert category. read more

Nova is my favorite coffee shop in Mobile! They have great coffee and the vibes there are cool. Only complaint is that if you are trying to study, music inside can be a bit loud. They have a taco truck there until 2pm each day and the tacos there are so delicious. They also starting selling wine and beer and I heard margaritas so gonna have to check those out soon. Nova will forever leave a disgusting taste in my mouth after my experience this weekend. My son consumed an unlabeled cake pop that contained peanut butter. He immediately started showing signs of a severe allergic reaction. I realized the mistake I had made by not checking what looked like a chocolate cake pop and starting calling 911 and asking for help. There was an employee in the food truck outside the coffee shop that, thank GOD, had an epi pen. This absolutely saved his life. The employees and owner working at the time did not stop anything to address the emergency. After the fact and the ambulance came, the owner came outside. All I could mumble was how I could I let this happen? As a mom, I instantly blamed myself. It wasn't until later that I starting thinking about what could have been avoided and how I could help future costumers with allergies. Nova should have labeled the cake pop and informed the consumer. No one checked on my son after the fact. When I reached back out the owner, Tim Gauteaux, defensively reminded me that I myself mentioned how this was my fault and that I was "changing the narrative". Among other incredibly insulting and inappropriate things that he said on the phone call, he did not take accountability and repeatedly asked what else did I want him to do. I informed him that my whole purpose in contacting him was to make sure foods are labeled. In the end, his wife had to take over the phone call to stop him from further embarrassing himself. *Nova has since reached out and notified me that the display case is labeled.* If anything is to come of this, I want this to be a learning experience for small local businesses. I will also continue to pursue that new laws and codes are put into place protecting families with allergies. read more
