Nova is my favorite coffee shop in Mobile! They have great coffee and the vibes there are cool. Only complaint is that if you are trying to study, music inside can be a bit loud. They have a taco truck there until 2pm each day and the tacos there are so delicious. They also starting selling wine and beer and I heard margaritas so gonna have to check those out soon. The staff is so kind and always has great drink recommendations. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quick cup of coffee or a place to hang out and study or grab a bite to eat. read more

Nova will forever leave a disgusting taste in my mouth after my experience this weekend. My son consumed an unlabeled cake pop that contained peanut butter. He immediately started showing signs of a severe allergic reaction. I realized the mistake I had made by not checking what looked like a chocolate cake pop and starting calling 911 and asking for help. There was an employee in the food truck outside the coffee shop that, thank GOD, had an epi pen. This absolutely saved his life. The employees and owner working at the time did not stop anything to address the emergency. After the fact and the ambulance came, the owner came outside. All I could mumble was how I could I let this happen? As a mom, I instantly blamed myself. It wasn't until later that I starting thinking about what could have been avoided and how I could help future costumers with allergies. Nova should have labeled the cake pop and informed the consumer. No one checked on my son after the fact. When I reached back out the owner, Tim Gauteaux, defensively reminded me that I myself mentioned how this was my fault and that I was "changing the narrative". Among other incredibly insulting and inappropriate things that he said on the phone call, he did not take accountability and repeatedly asked what else did I want him to do. I informed him that my whole purpose in contacting him was to make sure foods are labeled. In the end, his wife had to take over the phone call to stop him from further embarrassing himself. *Nova has since reached out and notified me that the display case is labeled.* If anything is to come of this, I want this to be a learning experience for small local businesses. I will also continue to pursue that new laws and codes are put into place protecting families with allergies. read more

If you're looking for a traditional macchiato (mostly milk, with quarter coffee) go to Starbucks. Theirs is like an espresso shot with a dash of milk. The vanilla latte and the cappuccino were fantastic though. They taste great and look very grammable. read more

Created out of love by an adorable young couple, this coffee shop is more than you run of the mill coffee spot. The owners have poured their passion to create this wonderful (and super cute) "third tier" coffee shop, with some creative & delicious coffee that is worth a try if you are ever in the Mobile area. Coffee shops can be intimidating to the non-coffee experts, but the staff & owners try to make everyone feel welcome as they are happy to answer any and every coffee question that visitors may have! My personal favorite is the iced bourbon maple coffee, seriously the best iced coffee that I've ever had - this is on a whole new level that Starbucks will never be able to beat. This is how my week begins. It's the best coffee shop in the city, and, in my opinion, on the Gulf Coast. What Tim and Claire have done with Nova is create an environment that is as pleasing, aesthetically, as the drinks are amazing. Everything they do - from bringing in a variety of roasters, having Southern National provide lunch plates and sweets, Succa's beautiful pots - puts the guest first. They are one of many amazing additions to downtown and the latest in a long line of outstanding coffee houses in our city. A final testament to how awesome they are is their staff. I have a home town coffee shop that roasts their own beans that I am in love with so for me the standard is really high. I would drive way out of my way just to have coffee at Nova again. The barista/owner was working the counter the day we came and this was part of the experience. The guy knows a ton about coffee and was very engaged in talking about it which I loved. He truly loves his craft and I think that really ads to the whole coffee experience. We tried a few things between what we wanted and what seemed interesting. He made me an incredible cappuccino which I thoroughly enjoyed. They introduced us to an espresso tonic, which was incredible. And when they say it gets better as it sits, they are not joking. The coffee is great and they have a good variety of both hot and cold with unique flavors. This place definitely had a hipster vibe. Now that Gen Z is taking over the world, I felt a little uncool as I stood there ordering my chai latte. Nonetheless, my drink was deliciously executed, and Nova's warm, chatty environment was a welcome respite from the frigid outdoors. It's a clean, well-lit space, but a little lacking in the cozy factor in my opinion. And, possibly due to cinder block construction, the acoustics indoors are EXCELLENT, which is to say LOUD. Relaxed spot to chill and work! Sadly, no pics. Our Airbnb was around the corner so we visited every morning basically. So that says something. The food was always good! We had breakfast tacos with sweet potatoes and cheese among other things (black beans, chorizo, etc). I'm mentioning these ingredients because I will try to copy this as it was so good and I love tacos! I wasn't expecting their food to be good and was pleasantly surprised! As you can tell, I was impressed. They had an event for women only (I believe because it was the start of national women's month or just give more power to the woman!!!) when we visited and they had nice clothes. We really enjoy the vibes of Mobile and could actually see ourselves living here. Nova contributed to this. I got some clothes for myself and will always remember this spot. read more

Great coffee! Love the lavender addition. Inside has plenty of seating. No couch if that's your thing. Kind of chilly inside which i love so bring a light jacket if you get cold too easily! The baked goods are generic and everything else sucks but the coffee is fantastic and the service is stellar. Vibe is wonderful but parking can be a bit tricky, so try to get there early. The only reason why I'm giving this place four stars is because they haven't really tried to step up their baked good game.
