Peacemaker!

I wish I had better brunch! At the beginning or end of your Yellow Brick Road, I can vote for a cozy stop here (or one of their many fine locations studding some charming Southern States, including a home in New Orleans). Teri was bright and merry, extending excellent recommendations and a big bite for TEX! If you choose not to decide (between 2 Benedicts, that is), the PEACEMAKER! Mine paired a Chicken St. Charles (fried chicken with pork Tasso hollandaise) with Bayou Shrimp (creole tomato sauce and fried green tomatoes) over their famously fluffy buttermilk biscuits. I hold pretty high standards for dishes I make myself, but these 2 versions were both original and exceptional in every regard. Glad to find this gem and know where to go next time I'm on the road from here to there!

Gulf shrimp omelet with buttermilk biscuit and cheesy grits

Beautiful scenery in downtown Mobile. Its perfect for brunch and it fits right in with the vibe of a coastal town. Had the gulf shrimp omelet which was delicious especially because the shrimp is fresh. Ordered a matcha specialty drink as well to make this a well rounded breakfast. The service was very nice despite some small issues that they immediately corrected.

Service and food both were great! Tip: skip the omelet they're just meh/ok.. go for the speciality things like the Migas & Benedicts!

Buddha Bowl (less the pork and egg) and a side of avocado with a Sparkling Sunrise mocktail and water.

I was sat immediately, and the setting was eclectic. Service was very kind and the menu was adjustable for my diet. The food was seasoned, appetizing and tasted good. I ordered a Buddha Bowl (without the pork and egg) with smoky black beans, corn and pepper relish, arugula, pickled English cucumber, and half of an avocado with an avocado crème fraisch (sp). I ordered an additional side of avocado and a Sparkling Sunrise mocktail.

We love brunch at Ruby Slipper! Our favorite spot is the patio, but we always enjoy ourselves!

Sweet Home Mobile Alabama Whenever you can order one my favorite desserts disguised as a breakfast entree, then I'm all in. The Banana Foster French Toast was straight from The Big Easy. Combine that with the 3 Little Pigs omelette and that made for a satisfying meal for the 2 of us. These 2 plates had enough protein to share while providing us a great sugar rush to get us down the road back home to Texas. The inside of the restaurant has that Dorthy from Kansas theme, ample tables for such a small restaurant and overall I consider this a hidden gem within the downtown area for good measure. The menu has a good assortment of interesting pancake options to select from and many creative egg plates. We used the call ahead feature although it was not terribly busy at 10am when we arrived. However, within the hour, a line of folks come in and the wait was on.

Nice joint. Trendy. Eclectic decor. And, excellent food. We came here recently as we were in town for Wifey's graduation from USA. Go Jags! Wait was not bad for a Saturday around 1130ish. Maybe 20 minutes? Anyway, I would wait twice as long for this place. We had a party of six. Got the chicken sandwich (good), three little pigs omelet (good), sweet heat chicken and french toast bites (real good), southern breakfast (real good). I also got the grits with pepper jack cheese (unreal). Good variety on menu from sandwiches to bennies. Also, nice alcohol selection, though we didn't partake. Service was on point. Prices real reasonable. Cool, funky spot. Street parking. There was also a parking structure, but not sure if it was kosher to park there. We wish there was a Ruby Slipper closer to us than 2000 miles away.

Best service and food in Mobile for Brunch. Even very busy for seated within 5 minutes

Sweet heat chicken & French toast bites were a shareable dish and super tasty

Jones the waitlist on Yelp and were seated promptly. We tried the homemade biscuit with cane syrup butter ($3), stone-ground grits ($3.5), and sweet heat chicken & French toast bites which is crispy fried chicken and fresh strawberries tossed in hot honey glaze over French toast noted ($16). Our server, Linda S, was so attentive and kept checking on us. She was quick, friendly and took time to answer our questions. Overall a wonderful first-time experience and we will be back on another visit.

Kids French Toast Bites, were perfect. It wasn't fried hard and my little one loved it.

Great atmosphere, food was delicious, and great service. The portions weren't skimpy and we left full and happy.

I arrived at 9:00 am and was seated promptly. The waitress was very polite and suggested specialty items. I ordered quite a few things since this was my first time visiting. The restaurant is clean and festive. The menu items were a good mix. The drinks and food were both good. The pancakes were my favorite. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was GOOD!

Buzzed Bull Creamery - Buzzed and booze ice cream and shake. Got a little buzz from it. It was mildly boozy.

2.5-3 stars--- A few things (based on 2 separate visits)…read more On visit #1 The "milkshake" I was given was actually just a cup of flavored milk and had none of the expected thickness/creaminess to it which was pretty disappointing. On visit #2 We ordered 2 ice cream cups to try (one buzzed and one regular) After waiting 53 minutes for our ice cream (you read that correctly) I was less than impressed with what was presented. - at around the 40 min mark of waiting, a waitress came to our table to inform us that the coffee liqueur was actually unavailable, so we'd need to change which "buzz" we wanted in our ice cream... sure, fine. -when my non-buzzed ice cream was handed to me I noticed immediately it was missing the brownies I ordered with it. I was THEN told after a few MORE minutes of waiting that "whoops, we ran out of brownies hours ago and forgot to notify you at the time of your order. Would another topping work?" So a few stars for their attempts to rectify the situation and offer replacement options. Now, When it comes to the actual flavors of the icecreams I WILL say, our Buzzed caramel ice cream = a more creamy ice cream and we were actually pleased with the flavor. My non-buzzed seasonal "ube" flavor = pretty disappointing and the texture was less creamy and harder to describe. The minute it touched my tongue it liquified lol so maybe it needed to be frozen/blended longer in their ice cream machine? Either wayyyy not super impressed overall. If you come on a busy night, make sure you have LOTS of time to spare.

For instance, advised that my daughter was shy when the kid hesitated to order one day, the barista brightened up even more and put the girl at ease. Whether their coffee is good or not is completely subjective. I think it's good overall, but it might not be my first choice in town. But it's made with care, and as mentioned, roasted in house. Its popularity speaks to its quality. They also have a very good selection of pastries and other goodies to accompany your coffee, including a Mobile institution--cheesecake from a local company called Cotton Blues. The only gripe I have about Carpe Diem is their seating setup. There simply isn't enough of it. That said, I don't know how they could use the space more efficiently, since the cafe is small as it is. I prefer more private seating, which in other coffee houses I've been to has been accomplished with the judicious use of plants or high-backed chairs. The biggest component of the crowded seating is due to students from Springhill College across the street. Today, for instance, my husband and I were unable to find any seating at all. Even on the days when we can find seating, being entirely surrounded by people working quietly on their laptops feels awkward and lends a library-like feel to the atmosphere. It feels rude to have a conversation at a regular level. I feel like I'm intruding. I don't know how a coffee shop should handle this conundrum, as it's really not good business practice to limit customers' time while there, or to turn away clientele, even in an attempt to please all of their customers. There is already a back room which seems to be an unofficial space dedicated to students, but the overflow still takes up much of the cafe. That said, I enjoy Carpe Diem and going there is a nice little treat. I would definitely recommend it.

The morning glory (I think that's the name) muffin was excellent chock full of nuts, spices, raisins and a homemade taste like carrot cake. They had a selection of chocolate as well.
