This was my third time in Nola and I finally had a chance to get a table because they are always so busy. From the food to our waitress and staff was incredible. Love this breakfast spot! It's in a cute neighborhood with lots of great architecture to check out if there's a wait. We got right in at the bar and loved our server/bartender Tony. My girlfriend got the special (fried chicken with Brussels sprouts and grits) and I got the shrimp Benedict and the fried tomato Benedict. Worst experience EVER....joined the waitlist, quoted approximately 45 minutes, sat outside with my 2 children. Almost an hour passes and the hostess (sweet as can be) yells down at us, asking if we're waiting for a table? We say yes, she brings us in and seats us. Not even a minute goes by and this waitress with short reddish hair walks up to our table, smacks it with her hands and starts talking very loudly saying, "We don't have any food, we don't have grits, we don't have biscuits, we don't have bacon, I don't know what the hell she's thinking (speaking about the sweet hostess who sat us I assumed) I thought she was joking at first, like it was going to be one of those places that are rowdy with their customers, which can be fun. I'm shocked and realize that she's serious, I said, we have been waiting over an hour ...her response "I'm sure you have and we don't have any food" No apology at all, and could care less about the paying customers. Maybe verify that they have food before you wait for a table. My daughter ended up leaving her purse there so we went back hoping it was there and the prior hostess was so sweet and said yes I put it in the office so it would be safe. Brunch spot is the place to be. This ruby location meal made my stomach so full and satisfied that I'm so glad I came here. From the welcoming staff, to the trifecta delicious goodness, to the seasoned with heart foods. Trifecta: fried chicken bomb af, pulled pork nice and textured, and shrimp omg yes pls more! Biscuits and gravy was hefty. But well worth the price if my friend didnt eat off our plate and ate hers haha. It was good if we all just shared the trifecta. Salmon omelette was good. Beignets was not too fluffy and a lil hard, wouldn't recommend (?) Kind of thrown off their plates was a lil dirty and the forks and knives could do a better wash. But i wiped it off. read more

The ambience here is casual. The food was generally good. I highly enjoyed the fried green tomatoes but wish they gave more in an order since they were really small. The breakfast tacos were in what appeared to be store bought flour tortilla (not great) so I ended up just eating the insides of the tacos. However,they were kind of bland and needed some seasoning. My friend who ordered the shrimp and grits enjoyed it thoroughly and my other friend said the fried chicken eggs benedict was lovely. The biscuits are fluffy and buttery so I highly recommend getting one to try. The amaretto iced coffee was a major favorite as was the blueberry lavender mimosa. The mimosa came in a full wine goblet rather than a more traditional champagne flute but not to worry because you can ask to take it to go if you can't finish it up there. This is a nice New Orleans chain where you can get a nice hearty brunch for a decent price. read more

I typically visit NoLA every September. There are lots and lots of great restaurants in and around the French Quarter to choose from, but the Ruby Slipper stays on the top of my list. We typically visit the location in the French Quarter, but since I visited 2 weeks after Ida this year, that location was closed. Yelp helped me identify that this location, just outside the Quarter was indeed still serving food. We walked the 4 blocks from Esplanade to find the restaurant tucked inside an old bank building. Because our visit was right after the hurricane, mostly locals were inside. The restaurant was unusually quiet and the menu was greatly reduced because shipments were still being affected. Still, the staff were all very friendly and great at communicating why things weren't quite "normal". I ordered the Blackstone Eggs Benedict and my friend got the Peacemaker, another version of eggs benedict. Both were delicious. Aside from the top notch brunch menu and boozy coffees or cocktails, it's really the people and the atmosphere that does it for me. The restaurant is really queer -- in a safe welcoming and celebratory kind of way. There were lots of Pride flags and t-shirts both for sale and on the servers. Many of the servers were a part of the LGBTQ community, as were many patrons. It's always nice to walk into spaces that exude queer joy. Our server was really friendly. He flirted back with my friend and even pulled up a chair for a bit to share some of his experience with the city during Ida. If I hadn't already been sold on the food and atmosphere, the story he shared about his company (the Ruby Slipper) would have done the trick. He explained that the ruby slipper has several locations. Four or five, I believe. The main location in the French quarter has a giant walk-in freezer. That seems to be the location where they store the majority of food for the restaurants. After the hurricane, the city was without power. If you don't have power, you can't keep food safe. The ruby slipper wanted to ensure that not only the food was used, but that their workers weren't left without hours and a paycheck. They invited their workers to help unload the freezer, and cook meals each day. The meals were then delivered to a free food location the city had established, to help those in need during the power outages and hurricane crisis. He shared that the first day they made over 150 Poboys. The next day they made gumbo which served over 100 people. They did this until all the food has been used. As if that weren't kind enough, they went a step beyond to ensure their workers were still paid. They offered everyone the opportunity to continue working inside the restaurant, at a flat hourly rate, doing deep cleaning. Our server was so grateful for those hours. He himself had been without power and taking cold showers for over a week. When looking to support a small, local business, it's stories like these that matter. The ruby slipper has a great atmosphere and serves some really delicious brunch foods, but it is the care and intention behind the company that make me sure I will visit the ruby slipper every single time I visit in New Orleans. read more

Very cute cafe! Was suggest by a local friend so had to try it out. The mimosa flight was pretty good but the star was the Bacon Bloody Mary! Absolutely delicious! My Fried Catfish and Grits was a 10 out of 10! Unfortunately the fried green tomatoes were lack luster also serving diced tomatoes on top of more tomatoes made no sense. I love fried green tomatoes so this was disappointing. Service wise everyone was nice and we got sat pretty quick. But the server wasn't very attentive. They were closing about an hr after we got there so I get it she was trying to get out of there (it was Lundi Gras) but still pay attention to your tables. Also the fact that I got my appetizer and there was no silverware delivered tsk tsk. I saw two servers in the corner, rolling up more with napkins. The fact that had to get up and get it myself was disappointing. Couldn't even get anyone's attention to ask for it. I rate the service about 4 out of 10. I first visited this outstanding restaurant when I came to visit New Orleans in November of 2023 from California. It was down the street from my AirBnB. From the moment I walked in I felt at home! The staff, the environment, the food, all top notch and believe me, I am super picky about service and only want great food. I even met the love of my life having breakfast there. Woohoo! Now having lived in New Orleans for almost a year, I dine here 2-3 days a week, it really is that good! This is a must stop. There are two but this one in Marigny is fantastic. At first, we thought it was closed because the door was a tad bit tough, as we didn't want to fling the door open. Q came running over to assist we finally gave the door a good push. He welcomed us with a friendly smile and introduction. Our party of 5 was sat and Veronica did a fabulous job. This is a local chain, and it doesn't quite have the charm of the funkier, more independent eateries you can find in NOLA. That said, it's cute, and the waiter was very friendly. Agree with other reviewers that it's a little slow -- don't go if you're in a hurry. We went first thing in the morning, and they weren't quite ready for us -- luckily, we didn't really want anything they were out of, but still... The food we did have was really good. I had the Eggs Blackstone bennie, which was delicious. My husband had the bread pudding pancakes, which were really good, but VERY sweet -- I would have needed more balance, but he definitely enjoyed them. The coffee at a place like this should be great, and it wasn't; it was fine, but not memorable.
