This was a great spot for breakfast. Although, I decided to try the lunch Reuben. It was actually very good. The meat tasted flavorful and the coleslaw in the sandwich gave it an interesting flavor. My bloody Mary was excellent. And the eggs Benedict that my friend ordered were well-made. Overall not a bad place for breakfast. read more

food was quite bland -shrimp and grits: 5/10 this was extremely greasy, not the biggest fan personally -trifecta benedict: 7/10 not bad as far as benedict's go, eggs were poached well and the combinations were unique. however i felt like they all lacked flavor not sure if we just ordered the wrong items? but we were not impressed given the high yelp ratings this place has read more

Last ate here 4 years ago and loved it. Revisited for breakfast today. Quality of food and service was excellent. Extensive menu options. The Cochon eggs Benedict were incredibly tasty, only the eggs were a bit too overcooked for my personal taste. The almond flour pancakes were surprisingly delicious as well. Ruby Slipper Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast places while I'm in New Orleans. This is the 3rd of this restaurant I have been to and the food is consistently good. I had bbq shrimp and grits, my son had a shrimp omelet with grits and I daughter ordered a skinny amigos without guacamole. This was the least favorite or the meals. The chips were greasy and the combination of ingredients just didn't mix well together. I know what not to order. The wait will be long, so the online reservation option is appreciated. read more

Decided to have breakfast here since it was so close to the hotel I was staying at and had such great reviews. The food did not disappoint! My mouth literally waters every time I think about their eggs Benedict. I highly recommend getting the Peacemaker so you can mix & match! I got one corned beef & one chicken st Charles (fried chicken obvs). They were SO good. Can't wait to go back to Nola just to eat here again, till then I'll just dream about those eggs Benedicts. -3HangryWomen read more

Staying in a nearby hotel, so placed a Togo order. While they forgot to include a few of the side items that I ordered, we ordered the chicken sandwich and biscuits and gravy along with goat cheese grits. Goat cheese grits for the win!! Homemade biscuit saves the biscuits and gravy as the gravynwas not remarkable. The bread on the chicken sandwich was so hard that I was unable to even cut it. Nice portion of chicken and fresh lettuce and tomato. I'm not sure that the shredded chedder cheese makes sense. I ordered a side of the tasso cream sauce, and it elevated the chicken sandwich big time. I could eat a bowl of that stuff. French fries were not crisp, not seasoned, and not remarkable. All in all, this place has quality food, reasonable pricing, and tasty options. read more

Heard good things about this place so we decided to visit the day before we leave New Orleans for lunch. There was no wait on a Tuesday afternoon around noon. We were seated immediately and the friendly server took our drink order. I highly recommend the iced boozy coffee! I was tempted to order a Burger, but who comes to New Orleans for a Burger??! I saw one of their specialties is the Chicken St Charles so I went for it. I was soooo glad I did!! It was amazing! The large biscuit was cut in half, perfectly soft and warm and each side was topped with a small piece of boneless fried chicken, which had a great flavor as well. It was juicy and flavorful. The poached egg was perfectly cooked and the hollandaise sauce was the best I've had. Highly recommend! read more

I have a sweet tooth and I have to say the Banana Fosters Pain Perdu and White Chocolate Bread Pudding, both with pig-candy bacon was absolutely delicious. The Banana fosters pain perdu was my absolute favorite sweet dish in New Orleans. The french toast was just fried up and the bananas and syrup tasted amazing and light. We had an early breakfast before catching a taxi to the airport and it wasn't too busy on a Friday morning at 7 am. The coffee wasn't bad and they kept it filled up. Even though it's a chain, I would still come back. read more

I had the smoked salmon omlette. I didn't really like it. The tastes didn't go well together IMO and the cream on top of it has a bland taste which didn't help. At times it reminded me of the taste of throw up. It did come with a yummy honey butter with bread. They have gluten free bread you can ask for instead which I did and it was good. I really liked Ruby Slipper, but to be honest I wish I could rate it 3.5 stars (it's not quite down in the 3.0 realm, but I'm not quite sure it's *actually* worth 4 full stars). First, I think the drinks are overpriced. Granted, my iced Irish Coffees were nice and strong, but I'm not sure how the Bloody Mary's are so 'famous'...it tasted just like any old restaurant Bloody Mary, if you ask me. I had the white bread pudding pancakes and they were awesome - SO light and fluffy and delicious. I do wish they'd come with more of the special sauce, though (and one of the two had a mass of white chocolate chips cooked into the center of it, while the other just had a few sprinkled on top? weird). Also, the bacon TASTED really good, but was barely even room temp when it arrived. I had a side of corned beef hash as well and it was okay - it was different from any corned beef hash I've ever had before in the way it was prepared, which threw me off a bit. My SO had the Trifecta, which is one each of three of their eggs benedict - Eggs Cochon, Chicken St Charles, and Shrimp Boogaloo. I'm allergic to shellfish so I couldn't try the latter, but he said it was just okay - and to be honest, looking at it, there was nowhere near enough shrimp compared to the size of the biscuit it was served on. He and I both really enjoyed the Eggs Cochon, so if you go here and aren't sure which benedict to order, I highly recommend that one - though I also liked the Chicken St. Charles quite a lot, he wasn't as fond of that one. Service was...interesting. Our waitress had a friendly air but she was moving very...fast, is I guess the best way to put it. It was hard to flag her down; she kept sort of just breezing by/checking in on us in passing and was then gone before we could ask for water refills or whatever. We did use waitlist and it worked really well. When I joined it the wait was 19-34 minutes, and the time between joining it and our table being ready ended up being 21 minutes. Having not used waitlist before, I'm not sure if the time that you actually check in changes how long you wait overall, but if it does, as a note we did check in close to 10 minutes before our time allotment to do so was up. All this said, there are quite a few other menu items I'd like to try here, so I imagine I'll be back for a visit next time I'm in New Orleans :) read more

Recently had breakfast here when traveling thru New Orleans. First time at this restaurant. Arrived at location at about 8:30 am and unbelievably was able to get a parking place right beside the restaurant on the street. This is almost impossible in New Orleans so I took this as a good sign of things to come. I ordered a Cornbeef Hash Beenie. This is a large biscuit cut in half with home style potatoes, Cornbeef, a horseradish sauce, and a poached egg on top with hollandase sauce. Very large portion that I think you could share unless you a large football player or a teenage boy. I was not able to finish the meal. Excellent meal with great flavors with great service. I noticed many locals eating here. I would definitely order this again but I would share the meal. My wife ordered eggs cochon. Same set up with large biscuit cut in half with shredded pork, poached egg with hollandase. She also thought her meal was excellent. Large portions again. We could have shared her meal. I am putting this place on the keeper must come back place. It's this kind of place that makes New Orlean's the best food city in the U.S.A. read more

This place was only decent. We came on a Saturday morning and the wait was only about 10 Minutes. Way shorter than the one on Canal Street. The service was really good and the waitress was nice. The food though, I didn't care for. I ordered the fish and fried cake grits(can't remember the exact name). The dish was only subpar. Grits were a little over cooked and I didn't really care for the fish and grits combination (I'm from the north so that might be part of it). I personally wouldn't order it again. read more

We did not realize this place had multiple locations started off at the wrong location. Finally made it and missed our reservation! Thankfully it was only 45 more minutes. It is extremely loud in here, so don't plan on talking to serious at your table haha. The acoustics are crazy. I am just loving all of the fried green tomato food options here, so of course I went with the one tomato two tomato bene! I was so pumped for two different tomatoes, but it was just ok for me. The fried green I really couldn't even taste, maybe a thicker cut would help and a more crisp breading, the grilled tomato was good. The biscuit was delish, a little dry with how huge it was. I think maybe if there was another wet ingredient (perhaps a pimento cheese ) or even just more hollandaise sauce, it would be perfect. I think I had like two tablespoons of sauce so I really couldn't even taste it. Everyone else at our table loved their orders! I also love that you can order two different Benedict's on one order! Our server was great, food came really fast. The place does well with how busy they are. And the entire place is cool, I love their message. I would definitely come back to try something different. We had heard nothing but good things about Ruby Slipper Cafe from friends who we asked for restaurant recommendations for in NOLA. From reading reviews, we knew that there would be a wait for Saturday morning breakfast, so on our walk over from the hotel, we joined the waitlist from the Yelp app. I'm SO glad we did, because for our party of 5, instead of having to wait 30-45 minutes (there were many people standing outside waiting), we waited less than 5 and were seated. WIN! To be honest, after looking at the menu, 3 of us got the Southern Breakfast - eggs, grits, bacon, biscuit and a fried green tomato; and 2 of us got the Croque Madame, plus a variety of non and alcoholic drinks. Everything was SO tasty and delicious. Even though the Southern Breakfast was pretty standard, we enjoy it all! it was all well cooked and seasoned, and the Croque Madames were huge and amazing as well. Service was great also, we never had an empty cup of coffee or water or drink and we were constantly checked on. We all left VERY happy and pleased! We would absolutely be back again for breakfast! *Highlight, we went in September and it was still very hot and humid in NOLA, the restaurant is well air conditioned and we were super comfortable despite the VERY packed house! read more

When it comes to breakfast and brunch spots in New Orleans, The Ruby Slipper on 204 Decatur is a true standout. As someone who has had their fair share of eggs benedicts, I can confidently say that this charming establishment delivers a dining experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. One of the highlights at The Ruby Slipper is their exceptional eggs benedicts. In particular, the Trifecta featuring three different variations of this classic dish left me in awe. Each benedict surpassed the last in terms of flavor and execution. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the perfect hollandaise sauce that graced each of the eggs. Its velvety texture and rich flavor elevated every bite to new heights of indulgence. But let's talk about the seafood. The Gulf shrimp benedict showcased the freshest, most succulent shrimp I have ever tasted. Their natural sweetness shone through, perfectly complementing the other components of the dish. And the fried chicken benedict? Well, the crispy chicken atop the benedict was a revelation. Its golden exterior gave way to juicy and tender meat, adding a delightful twist to this breakfast classic. What truly sets The Ruby Slipper apart is their unparalleled execution and ability to weave a captivating culinary tale through their dishes. The attention to detail is evident in every bite. The sauce accompanying the benedicts was flawlessly emulsified, striking the perfect balance of richness and tanginess. And let's not forget about the poached eggs--the yolks were a work of art, boasting an impeccable "jammy" consistency that added an extra layer of decadence. During my visit, my wife had the fried chicken and French toast dish. This creation showcased the restaurant's creativity and culinary prowess. The execution was flawless, and the French toast had a unique twist reminiscent of panzanella or French toast croutons. It was a delightful departure from the ordinary, leaving a lasting impression on our palates. The Ruby Slipper not only excels in culinary innovation but also provides impeccable service. The staff's attention to detail and genuine passion for their craft is evident from the moment you step through the door. The servers are knowledgeable, friendly, and go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. If you find yourself in the vibrant city of New Orleans, a visit to The Ruby Slipper is an absolute must. This gem of a restaurant seamlessly combines creativity, flawless execution, and exceptional service. Whether you're a local or a visitor, The Ruby Slipper is sure to leave an indelible mark on your culinary journey. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. read more

Title: A Culinary Gem with a Dash of Quirk: Ruby Slipper Cafe Review Nestled in the heart of New Orleans , Louisiana the Ruby Slipper Cafe offers a tantalizing fusion of flavors and a memorable dining experience that captures the essence of Southern cuisine. During a recent visit, I had the pleasure of indulging in their renowned biscuits and gravy, a dish that left an indelible mark on my taste buds. The biscuits and gravy at Ruby Slipper Cafe are a triumph of culinary artistry. The biscuits, baked to perfection, boasted a delicate balance of flakiness and tenderness. Paired with a rich and flavorful gravy that was a symphony of savory notes, this dish provided a hearty and comforting culinary encounter. The marriage of textures and taste was a true testament to the kitchen's dedication to quality and creativity. While the cuisine was undeniably a highlight, the service left something to be desired. Our waiter, regrettably, fell short of delivering the kind of attentive and polished service one might expect from an establishment of this caliber. However, amidst this minor setback, a shining star emerged in the form of Brian, a dishwasher with an infectious sense of humor. His presence injected a delightful touch of levity into the dining experience, turning what could have been a lackluster encounter into an unforgettable one. Brian's wit and charm resonated with patrons and provided a refreshing and unexpected layer of entertainment. In summary, the Ruby Slipper Cafe exudes an undeniable charm with its delectable dishes and quirky personalities. While the waiter's service left room for improvement, the true gem of the visit was the culinary artistry that graced our table. Furthermore, the unexpected joy brought forth by dishwasher Brian added an unexpected and memorable twist to our dining adventure. For those seeking a blend of Southern comfort food and a touch of lighthearted amusement, the Ruby Slipper Cafe is a destination well worth exploring. read more

As a devoted fan of the Ruby family, my expectations were sky-high when I stepped into the Ruby Slipper Cafe in New Orleans after my delightful experiences at their sister restaurant, Ruby Sunrise in Charleston, SC. I'm thrilled to report that the Ruby Slipper not only met but exceeded those expectations, firmly establishing itself as a #ThatBrunchLife essential. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of Southern hospitality enveloped me. The staff greeted me with genuine smiles and an eagerness to make my dining experience memorable. The atmosphere was a cozy embrace, with a vibrant yet comforting decor that paid homage to the soul of New Orleans. The menu was a love letter to Southern cuisine with an innovative twist. Each dish I tried was a masterpiece, but the standout was their signature Eggs Cochon - a decadent masterpiece of slow-cooked apple-braised pork debris over a biscuit, topped with perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise. It was a symphony of flavors that danced harmoniously on the palate. Comparing it to Ruby Sunrise in Charleston, where the shrimp and grits reign supreme, the Ruby Slipper holds its own with distinctive flair and an unmistakable New Orleans charm. It's clear that both establishments share a commitment to quality, flavor, and an unforgettable dining experience. In every aspect, from the attentive service to the mouthwatering cuisine, the Ruby Slipper Cafe is a beacon of #ThatBrunchLife and Southern hospitality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, missing out on this gem would be a culinary crime. The Ruby Slipper isn't just a restaurant; it's a celebration of the spirit of the South, and I can't wait to return. read more

While visiting the Big Easy during Mardi Gras, I was in the mood for brunch. After visiting the Ruby Slipper a couple of times, knew it was time to go back. The Decatur location was closest to me & glad I went. There was a line & I was greeted at the host stand by Stanley. Stanley gladly took my name but I asked if there happen to be a spot at the bar for just one. He turned around & told me to wait a couple of minutes as he cleared me a spot. Sat me down quick with a smile. Was immediately acknowledged by one of the bartenders saying they would be right with me. Kelli & Jaylynn were working that day. Started my day with an Irish coffee & it truly hit the spot. It did take a moment for me to decide, but didn't feel rushed. Yes, Kelli & Jaylynn checked on me, but only to see if I was ready & encouraged me to take my time. After a couple of moment, I chose the southern breakfast. It was the fried green tomato that sold me. Yes, it was simple, but extremely satisfying. And, that fried green tomato, was better than expected. The service at The Ruby Slipper was outstanding. Our waiter, a terrific young gentleman, was attentive, professional, and stayed on his toes to make sure we had everything we needed. The decor was true to the restaurant's name--fun, vibrant, and welcoming. Other patrons were also very friendly, adding to the warm atmosphere. As for the food, I really enjoyed the Chicken Benedict--it was flavorful and satisfying. However, the Shrimp Benedict was a bit of a letdown, as it only came with three small shrimp, which felt underwhelming. My friend ordered the Salmon Omelette with grits and a biscuit, and they said it was absolutely delicious. Here's how we rated the dishes: Chicken Biscuit: 9/10 Shrimp Biscuit: 6/10 Salmon Omelette Plate: 9/10 Overall, while the service and ambiance were great, the menu didn't quite match my personal preferences--mainly because I don't eat pork, and I found the non-pork options somewhat limited. That said, I believe The Ruby Slipper has a lot of potential for those who enjoy its Southern-style offerings. read more

I recently dined at Ruby Slipper and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience. Although the food preparation took a while, the wait was well worth it as the food was absolutely delicious. From the appetizers to the entrees, every dish was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. I would highly recommend the food here. While the drinks were average, they were advertised as award-winning and amazing, which was a bit disappointing. However, this was a minor setback in an otherwise great dining experience. I was impressed with how easy it was to make a reservation and while the waitlist said it would be an hour, I only had to wait 30 minutes before being seated. The staff was nice and attentive, making sure my dining experience was enjoyable. Ruby Slipper on Decatur Street is a fantastic spot for a hearty, Southern-inspired breakfast or brunch. The warm, lively atmosphere immediately sets the tone for a great dining experience, and the menu is full of indulgent options that showcase New Orleans flair. I came to New Orleans for a quick trip and was craving a good breakfast. After seeing glowing reviews on Yelp, TikTok, and hearing personal recommendations, I thought Ruby Slipper would be a great choice. However, I have to say, I was left a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the diverse dining scene in Houston, but Ruby Slipper felt extremely basic and average. We ordered several things off the menu, and honestly, nothing really stood out. There was nothing particularly unique or memorable about any of the dishes we tried. It was all fine, but not impressive by any means. If you're in the mood for a quick, no-frills breakfast, Ruby Slipper could work, but there are definitely better and more unique breakfast spots around New Orleans that I'd recommend exploring. Ruby Slipper is a cute and cozy brunch spot with a Creole fusion twist, and overall, it was a great experience! I started with a creamy vanilla latte topped with nutmeg and whipped cream, which was delicious--just a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but still really well made. For my main dish, I had the French toast with fried chicken, strawberries, and maple syrup. The flavors worked beautifully together, but it was definitely a heavy dish, and I wish there had been something like whipped cream or a light topping to balance it out. We also tried the catfish with grits, which was another solid choice. Overall, Ruby Slipper is a great spot for brunch, but just know that the dishes lean toward the rich and indulgent side. The Ruby Slipper Cafe is a breakfast and lunch spot in the heart of downtown. They have amazing food and fast service, so you can't go wrong with this place! They serve everything from omelets to waffles, and they're all made fresh right in front of you. The coffee is great as well--they use beans from local roasters, which makes it even more special. But if you want something that will fill up your entire stomach, then this is definitely the place for you! The only downside? It didn't have no pork on it! you follow me & my reveiws ya'll know i don't do anybody's pig anything. *chef kiss* The outta line for giving this portion size. I'm tryna eat a little here & there- they filled butt up. Lol i see how it is!! Service, service, service. Jen was my server. She took really good care of me. For a tiny hole in the wall- I can't say I've had better. (It gave chickfila vibes.) Super pleasant, energetic vibes, the place legit caters to families, familes with small children, large groups. The French Quarter has no shortage of breakfast spots that feel like they're running a tourist…read moreassembly line. French Toast on Decatur Street is the opposite. It's warm and a little loud, and you feel welcome before you sit down. Start with the vibe, because it's half the meal. The kitchen is open, and the cooks work right in front of you. During my visit they were laughing, trading jokes and calling out plates like a crew that likes each other. That energy carries to the table. Service was friendly and unhurried, with no rushing, no attitude and no sense that you were holding up the line. In a neighborhood where a lot of places run on autopilot, that matters. The food backs it up. The French toast comes as a thick, golden block of house-made bread, soaked through and caramelized on the outside. Mine was topped with glazed fruit, toasted nuts and a dusting of powdered sugar, and it held together all the way down. The King Cake version is the one to order. It's a thick slab filled with cinnamon cream cheese and finished with purple, green and gold sugar. It's a New Orleans joke told with real skill, and it tastes like Carnival season whatever the month. Everything here is made in house, from the breads and biscuits to the jams, custards and curds, and you can taste the difference. The savory side of the menu is just as good, and there's a full bar if brunch calls for a drink. The room is cozy, and the brick patio out front is dog-friendly. Prices are fair for the Quarter and the portions are generous. They open at 8 and close at 3, so there's no excuse to miss it.

It just created such a wholesome fun environment. I will say I was sad when I went by the next day and they were closed unexpectedly. I really wanted another cold brew, but thanks again!
