I think this place has the potential to be better. They have a great location right next to the beach and great highway, nice interior, exterior and decorations, and a good alcohol list. What I see they are lacking in is their food unfortunately. To order you go up to the front and put it in. We ordered some tacos, a salad, chips and salsa (no guac unfortunately), and the fish stew. I'll start with the salad. This might be my favorite dish. Good salinity, the fish was a great addition, and dressing was nice! There was a lot of seeds, but I enjoyed them. My next favorite is the chips and salsa, the chips tasted fresh and the salsa was different, I like it. The next 2 dishes weren't my favorite; tacos and stew. I think the tacos were over stuffed with condiments. Tbh I think the meat in them was actually very good, but it was a small amount and the toppings were too much! Keep it more basic and I think I would have enjoyed it much more, also fill it up better. Next up the stew. It tasted like a minestrone with olives and some fish and shrimp added. I thought it'd be more akin to a cioppino, but it was okay in my opinion. All in all I think this place could improve. read more

I don't live in San Francisco. I live in the suburbs. Don't judge. We have outstanding tacos in the suburbs. The green salsa was the hit here. Very unique and creative. Guac was good too. It's near the ocean. San Francisco is costly. I get it. However, here's where things broke down. We ordered 7 tacos and a plate of about 20 chips with guac and excellent salsa. It was $90 + tip. (Two ribeye, four fish, one cauliflower). I tip because I know working in a restaurant is hard. I work in my own kitchen daily. Not professionally, but to feed my family. Although, we bussed our table and we went up the counter to get the tacos. So tip was really a little bit, well, silly. Which is why I struggled. I licked the salsa from the bowl shamelessly to get every last cent's value. I am a mom with two kids and there is a lot you can do with $100. I kind of was mad. I'm still a little mad. The tacos were good. But next time, well. I'm cooking them myself. I don't think I'm the right demographic for Ruby's, but I can't say anything bad about the tacos. read more

Went to Ruby's for an early dinner/late lunch with a group of ladies and loved the friendliness and food! Monique, the proprietor, came to the table to check on us and to thank us for dining at her establishment. Even though they don't usually take reservations, she had a table set up for the 9 of us. We each ordered and paid for our individual orders at the counter, so there was no worry about someone either paying too much or too little. Our food and beverages were brought to the table for us. I had two tacos, the grilled fish and the ribeye, and they were both delicious! I was advised to eat the ribeye first and I did. Both were juicy and tender. My dining companions had a variety of dishes. The poke bowl looked amazing and the person who had it was very happy with it. The Fishermen's Stew also looked fantastic. The person who had that was a bit disappointed in the beginning because she thought it was more of a soup than a stew, but then she said all the seafood was under the soup and there was plenty of it. Others had the Rainbow Salad, a single fish taco, and the chips with salsa and guac. Everyone was very happy with what was ordered, but there was a lot of "I'll try that next time"! So glad to have this neighborhood gem here. Will definitely return! read more

Me and my friend got chicken caesar wraps after a walk on the beach and had a great time. They were fast and friendly. The place had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. $15 for 2 tacos: The ribeye taco is literally a thin, 3"x3" square portion of meat on top of a 6" tortilla with half a teaspoon of pickled cabbage on top. The fish taco is a 2"x2" piece of fish on top of a 6" tortilla with a 1/4 shredded cabbage and half teaspoon of sauce. These tacos were pretty sad as there was more tortilla than actual toppings. They are screaming for seasoning of any kind. Very overpriced for the amount of food you receive. If you're looking for an "Americanized" version of Mexican food for picky eaters and those that avoid seasoning for medical reasons, this is the right place. I won't be back because I've had tacos from street vendors in Mexico City and this is more "I know what a taco is suppose to look like, let me charge 2-3x the going rate of tacos and see what happens" read more

I got the poke bowl which I thought was going to be skimpy, so I ordered a rib eye taco on the side, def didn't need to. The poke bowl was STACKED and super refreshing - I was pretty satisfied. We also had chips (super crisp) and salsa (like a chimichurri salsa), very good. The service was top notch, everyone here is super nice, even the patrons. This place is an absolute gem! The owners are the sweetest family -- you can feel the care and warmth the moment you walk in. It's a perfect spot for kids, with an easy, relaxed vibe that makes everyone feel welcome, but still feels elevated enough for a grown-up night out. The food is fantastic -- my favorites are the ahi poke bowl (so fresh and flavorful!) and the carnitas tacos, which are perfectly seasoned and crisped just right. Finally, after the vegan Beach'N's years long reign of terror, something worth the hype comes to the corner of 48th and Judah. The first reviewer's comments on ambiance, staff, vibes, etc are spot on so I'll refer anyone reading this to that review. The Fisherman's Stew is my new favorite dish, not just in the Sunset, but all of the city. Sitting outside on a chilly Sunset day/evening, armed with nothing but the stew to keep me warm, is now a favorite activity of mine. I will be praying for cold days as an excuse to go sit outside and eat that stew. This is the first (and probably only review I've ever written, but I felt compelled to leave one because of how much I enjoyed Ruby's. The service at Ruby's was somewhat lackluster. The person taking my order was kind, but confused. Two tacos. 16 dollars. 25 minutes. NO WARNING. Was not even busy. However, I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving my beautiful fish tacos. They were so delicious, the tortilla was nice and crispy, fish cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. Ruby's is a great addition to the neighborhood! My kids love the super hero plate (and I love the leftovers). The ribeye taco is super unique and is probably my favorite taco in SF right now. Delicious, inventive, fresh food!! My sister & I discovered this charming restaurant just a block from Ocean Beach. We were drawn to everything on the menu. Shared several items: the ahi tuna tartare: large chunks of super fresh tuna & avocado with just enough seasoning, surrounded by crispy tortilla chips to scoop up. Then on to the cauliflower taco and blackened shrimp taco. Both generously filled with assorted other ingredients including pickled onions, roasted corn etc. All extremely well seasoned. Yummy. I had the fresh house made strawberry lemonade, concocted right before my eyes! If I lived nearby I would be there weekly. This is destined to be a neighborhood favorite. Ruby's is a new fast casual restaurant just steps away from Ocean Beach. Housed in a green building, the decor of the restaurant feels warm, cozy and bright. My husband and I stopped in on a chilly night and ordered the Fisherman's Stew, the fish taco, the cauliflower taco and the chips and guacamole. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly and we especially enjoyed the stew which has generous portions of seafood. I also loved the fish taco. The fish is local and sustainably sourced, which is also a plus. There are also items on the menu for vegans and vegetarians. Save room for dessert, because the paletas are amazing and made locally in small batches. We had the mango and coconut which was divine. The spot is perfect for families, a casual date night or gathering with friends after a day at the beach. I need to spend more time with the drink menu the next time I visit. Quick note, the restaurant only has counter service. The staff was welcoming and friendly and our food came quickly. The prices were very reasonable. We will be back! read more

i really wanted to like this place since it's new in my neighborhood but i was a bit disappointed by the prawn tacos. I spent about $28 including tip for 3 prawn tacos which seems reasonable except the portion size felt very skimpy. i think each taco had about 3 prawns in it. Very little sauce, it was mostly corn. The flavor wasn't really there for me as well. read more
