We came by Ruby's by recommendation from a friend and opted to grab a single ribeye taco to try. At $7, this is probably the most premium taco I've ever purchased, but I was pleased to see how large it was and how premium the ingredients were. The ribeye was juicy and tender, and the taco was both soft and crisply fried. Pickled red onions cut the flavor of the meat super well. Service was also super friendly. I can imagine that eating food here after a long day on Ocean Beach would hit even harder. Definitely not the most affordable option in the area, but certainly delicious! read more

It's odd that I wrote a review for Ruby's and yet, I don't see it in my Yelp list of reviews! So, in light of that, this is a reposting of that review because I want Ruby's to get as much business as possible. They're a great addition to the neighborhood and I'd like them to stay around for a long time! Went to Ruby's for an early dinner/late lunch with a group of ladies and loved the friendliness and food! Monique, the proprietor, came to the table to check on us and to thank us for dining at her establishment. Even though they don't usually take reservations, she had a table set up for the 9 of us. We each ordered and paid for our individual orders at the counter, so there was no worry about someone either paying too much or too little. Our food and beverages were brought to the table for us. I had two tacos, the grilled fish and the ribeye, and they were both delicious! I was advised to eat the ribeye first and I did. Both were juicy and tender. My dining companions had a variety of dishes. The poke bowl looked amazing and the person who had it was very happy with it. The Fishermen's Stew also looked fantastic. The person who had that was a bit disappointed in the beginning because she thought it was more of a soup than a stew, but then she said all the seafood was under the soup and there was plenty of it. Others had the Rainbow Salad, a single fish taco, and the chips with salsa and guac. Everyone was very happy with what was ordered, but there was a lot of "I'll try that next time"! New spot for food if you've been getting tired of Hookfish. Although I would stick with their tacos. Ordered the ribeye taco, carnitas taco, fisherman's stew, and chips and guacamole. The ribeye taco was honestly the best taco I've had in a while. The melty cheese, crisped tortilla, and juicy meat was spectacular. The carnitas taco had a large chunk of tender meat, but flavor wasn't as interesting. The fisherman's stew had a lot of pieces of fish, but sadly they tasted a little too burnt from the grill. It's nice to see this corner location occupied again after Beach'n sadly closed. That was a satisfying vegan spot, although their hours were challenging for me because they closed by 2PM during the week. The new owners, Nick and Monique Osborne of Mission Rock Resort, appear committed to serving lunch and dinner because they're open until 8PM. This is good news because I usually don't get to the N-Judah terminus until later in the afternoon. When I recently got off the MUNI train, I was so pleased to see this space open. I entered without giving any thought to the menu which fortunately featured several items that would've pulled me in anyway... artisan tacos, soups & stews, salads, wraps, even an ahi tuna tartare. I ordered the $16 Rainbow Salad, quite a lollapalooza of fresh and colorful vegan ingredients tossed decoratively. It managed to look healthy and appetizing at the same time. It was made up of little gems, red cabbage, celery, radish, cilantro, mint, huge florets of pickled cauliflower, pepitas, and the most flavorful ingredient, bits of sweet potato, all tossed in a lime vinaigrette (Photo 8). As I expected, it's not the kind of place with cans of Coke Zero, so I went for the $6 House Guava Soda which added a nice tropical note to my salad (Photo 7). I'll definitely come back for those tacos. It's not every day you see smashburger as a filling. When I arrived, there was a line out the door. It's a busy spot on weekends. They have decent amount of seating, but very limited indoor seating. Good, casual to grab a quick lunch with friends off of the beach The staff were efficient with ordering and getting drinks out. The food took a little bit to get out. The ahi tuna tare tare was good. Such a cute spot at the end of the N-line. They really prioritize outdoor seating, perfect spot to enjoy the sun or walk to the beach after for a picnic. Alright straight up honest truth here. It's a 2.5 stars for me. I almost gave it a 3 but I didn't think it was deserving of rounding up. Torn here because I really wanted to like it and the meats were really good. But the whole tray of tacos was absolutely drowning in grease. So much grease... like every time we picked up the tacos grease just poured out of them. My fiancée couldn't stomach it and only had a few bites. I powered through. I might come back to try the caesar wrap but I don't think I would order the tacos again. Fish taco was the most edible and was pretty good because it had less grease. The smash burger tacos were a pleasant surprise and our favorite item! The rest of the tacos were alright, but some were dry and could've used some salsa or more filling. We also got the miso fish wrap and I'd say this is a pass... the texture and flavor just were off and it was mostly filled with cabbage. The restaurant has a fair amount of indoor and outdoor seating, and is beautiful on a sunny day in sunset! I was certain that if I was ever in the area I'd always default to hook and fish, but after eating with friends at Ruby's in a perfect 70 degree day, I'll have to alternate. Found out about this restaurant from an SF Standard article about how the Sunset District has changed over the years, bringing in lots of new restaurats to the Outer Sunset. I couldn't wait to try this restaurant! I love Mexican-seafood dishes. I loved the rockfish and shrimp tacos I got! Both were great. I do remember the shrimp one had a nice spice to it, with roasted corn. The taco shells were amazing too, a little bit more crispy than other places do, but not full on crispy, if that makes sense. We also shared the Ahi Tuna Poke with Chips to share, which was really nice. The quality of the ahi tuna fish was really great, probably the best I can get outside of Hawaii. Although the poke soy sauce flavoring was delicious, it was also a little too salty. My husband got the ribeye taco, which he loved. There was also another, Carnitas, that he didn't' care for too much, as it tasted like Asian flavors from the Hoisin sauce. It was too but just not what he was hoping for in a taco in that moment in time. The tacos were kind of small, so we ended up ordering a Cubano Wrap to share, which was also delicious. It had a really nice crispy wrap, good cheese, and tasted like a Cubano sandwich inside a wrap! It had all the right hams and meats to make it taste authentic. My only things I would add to improve the restaurant would be to expand the menu a little more, to add rice and beans somehow. Or maybe add some fish plates. I just felt I wish I could order different things in addition to the wonderful tacos on the menu, etc. Service here was great. I decided to stop by for a quick lunch on a Saturday, and it was packed. My order for a chicken caeser wrap and a ribeye taco took about 40 minutes to serve. I ordered everything to go. Chicken Caesar Wrap I got this to go, and the caeser sauce is given to you in a cup. This defeats the purpose of a chicken caeser wrap, since I now had to pour the caeser sauce after each bite. Just tried Ruby's in the Sunset and it's an easy 5 stars. The vibe is on point - relaxed, lively, and a neighborhood spot you want to spend time in. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The food was excellent. The rainbow salad with fish was fresh and flavorful. Particularly loved the pickled cauliflower. The tacos were also great, but the standout is the smash burger taco - such a fun twist and an absolute must-try. On a sunny day, the parklet space out front is awesome. It's the perfect spot to sit outside, enjoy a drink, and soak up the neighborhood atmosphere. Came here for lunch today (Saturday) - definitely a bit of a wait, which was to be expected since this spot has started popping up on social media. You order at the counter and get a buzzer. Luckily, a table freed up as soon as we ordered, but I would have expected to wait given how busy it was. We were quoted 30-40 minutes for our food, but it ended up being ready much faster. The smashburger and the fish taco were definitely the standouts. The smashburger was loaded and the fish had a great sauce and was cooked perfectly. I will say that the flank steak was noticeably less packed - we even got one with 2 pieces of steak and another with only 1, so it would be nice to see a bit more consistency there. Definitely on the pricier side - around $7 per taco. Pretty good overall, I'd like to be back with a group to try their pitchers and apps. read more

Food: I ordered 1 ribeye taco, 1 blackened prawn taco and a Michelada. The prawn taco was tasty with great flavor but the corn to prawn ratio was bit off. The ribeye taco was delicious in flavor but felt like it could've used one more thing to it besides a few pickled onions. The michelada was tasty but could've used a little more seasoning. Overall, this place definitely has my attention and I will definitely be going back to try more of the tacos and other food options. We ordered and I will say it was nice for the guy taking our order to let us know food would take an hour with the wait and nice that the drinks come out right away. We were disappointed on a Saturday at 12 that they were already sold out of the Cesar wrap (which was the main reason we went) and seemed weird to be sold out already. After waiting an hour, we were a little disappointed to have waited an hour for what we received and paid for. The tuna had no flavor and was so small, and the taco had barely any meat on it. I love the subtle menu changes and additions across the last few months too-- the Caesar wrap has me in an absolute chokehold. Please keep it on forever!! I see some reviews about wait time, and yeah, on nice days you should expect to wait since it's a very small kitchen, but will be sooo worth it! So don't be a dick about it! You can tell the staff really cares-- they are lovely. As a bonus, sometimes on super busy days they will bring out some sangria or beers to make the wait a bit more enjoyable. Today was a beach day for my Dog and I and this was our first stop before hitting Ocean Beach to enjoy this weather. I ordered the House Strawberry Limeade- before ordering I asked the cashier whether he liked the limeade or guava drink and he suggested the former. The restaurant was very nice with its breezy coastal chic atmosphere. The menu offered great options- tacos, poke, a great selection of beers etc but I chose the limeade to quench my thirst as I walk along the beach and soak up the sun. I think this place has the potential to be better. They have a great location right next to the beach and great highway, nice interior, exterior and decorations, and a good alcohol list. What I see they are lacking in is their food unfortunately. To order you go up to the front and put it in. We ordered some tacos, a salad, chips and salsa (no guac unfortunately), and the fish stew. I'll start with the salad. This might be my favorite dish. Good salinity, the fish was a great addition, and dressing was nice! There was a lot of seeds, but I enjoyed them. My next favorite is the chips and salsa, the chips tasted fresh and the salsa was different, I like it. The next 2 dishes weren't my favorite; tacos and stew. I think the tacos were over stuffed with condiments. Tbh I think the meat in them was actually very good, but it was a small amount and the toppings were too much! Keep it more basic and I think I would have enjoyed it much more, also fill it up better. Next up the stew. It tasted like a minestrone with olives and some fish and shrimp added. I don't live in San Francisco. I live in the suburbs. Don't judge. We have outstanding tacos in the suburbs. The green salsa was the hit here. Very unique and creative. Guac was good too. It's near the ocean. San Francisco is costly. I get it. However, here's where things broke down. We ordered 7 tacos and a plate of about 20 chips with guac and excellent salsa. It was $90 + tip. (Two ribeye, four fish, one cauliflower). I tip because I know working in a restaurant is hard. I work in my own kitchen daily. Not professionally, but to feed my family. Although, we bussed our table and we went up the counter to get the tacos. So tip was really a little bit, well, silly. Which is why I struggled. I licked the salsa from the bowl shamelessly to get every last cent's value. I am a mom with two kids and there is a lot you can do with $100. I kind of was mad. I'm still a little mad. The tacos were good. But next time, well. I'm cooking them myself. I don't think I'm the right demographic for Ruby's, but I can't say anything bad about the tacos. read more

$15 for 2 tacos: The ribeye taco is literally a thin, 3"x3" square portion of meat on top of a 6" tortilla with half a teaspoon of pickled cabbage on top. The fish taco is a 2"x2" piece of fish on top of a 6" tortilla with a 1/4 shredded cabbage and half teaspoon of sauce. These tacos were pretty sad as there was more tortilla than actual toppings. They are screaming for seasoning of any kind. Very overpriced for the amount of food you receive. If you're looking for an "Americanized" version of Mexican food for picky eaters and those that avoid seasoning for medical reasons, this is the right place. I won't be back because I've had tacos from street vendors in Mexico City and this is more "I know what a taco is suppose to look like, let me charge 2-3x the going rate of tacos and see what happens" read more
