It's odd that I wrote a review for Ruby's and yet, I don't see it in my Yelp list of reviews! So, in light of that, this is a reposting of that review because I want Ruby's to get as much business as possible. They're a great addition to the neighborhood and I'd like them to stay around for a long time! Went to Ruby's for an early dinner/late lunch with a group of ladies and loved the friendliness and food! Monique, the proprietor, came to the table to check on us and to thank us for dining at her establishment. Even though they don't usually take reservations, she had a table set up for the 9 of us. We each ordered and paid for our individual orders at the counter, so there was no worry about someone either paying too much or too little. Our food and beverages were brought to the table for us. I had two tacos, the grilled fish and the ribeye, and they were both delicious! I was advised to eat the ribeye first and I did. Both were juicy and tender. My dining companions had a variety of dishes. The poke bowl looked amazing and the person who had it was very happy with it. The Fishermen's Stew also looked fantastic. The person who had that was a bit disappointed in the beginning because she thought it was more of a soup than a stew, but then she said all the seafood was under the soup and there was plenty of it. Others had the Rainbow Salad, a single fish taco, and the chips with salsa and guac. Everyone was very happy with what was ordered, but there was a lot of "I'll try that next time"! So glad to have this neighborhood gem here. Will definitely return!

3.5 STARS Gorgeous sunny weather in the city calls for tacos and beer on the patio! While there's no shortage of places you can get tacos in the city, where can you find Irish Corned Beef AND Smash Burger Tacos?! At Ruby's.... From the owners of Mission Rock Resort. Walk-in only, no rezzies. Order at the counter and your order will be brought to you. Self-serve water. Bus your own table. M E N U California beach-style fare: salads, tacos, and wraps. Beer and low-abv margarita. Weekday HH Deal: Discounted alkie. 4% SF surcharge. T A C O S * Carnitas w/ hoisin, cucumber, sesame, green onion, flour tortilla ($6.50) Best of four, the Chinese Peking duck-inspired taco was generously filled with warm, tender carnitas on a chewy house-made flour tortilla. It had a great balance of familiar sweet and savory flavors with a fresh crunch from the cucumber. * Ribeye w/ oaxaca cheese, pickled onion, house salsa, corn tortilla ($7) Sadly, Ruby's most traditional offering completely missed the mark. The ribeye was dry and underseasoned, and the mild salsa verde didn't add much flavor. * Irish w/ corned beef, cabbage, secret sauce, guinness mustard, corn tortilla ($7) Cabbage heavy with several paper-thin slices of corned beef, warmed up on the flat top. A thicker cut might be a better move since the corned beef was both dry and greasy. * Smash Burger w/ short rib & brisket blend, pickled onion, tomato, pickle, american cheese, secret sauce, little gem ($8) A viral TikTok hack of smashing ground beef directly onto a tortilla, searing it on a hot skillet, and topping it with cheese and fixings. I think the flat top may not have been hot enough? The beef drippings seeped into the center of the tortilla instead of forming an even, crispy crust. It ended up being too oily, with not enough acidity from the pickles and onions to balance it out. Lastly, this taco felt expensive for what it was. S E R V I C E Fast during Friday lunchtime. A M B I A N C E Casual, low-key with a handful of tables inside. Plentiful outdoor seating on the sidewalk and in the two parklets. Ideal spot to hit up before or after the beach. Overall, loved the creativity behind the tacos! Maybe it was an off day but most of the tacos I tried missed mark on execution and/or needed seasoning. Too bad they didn't have an actually spicy salsa to kick up the flavors.

It's nice to see this corner location occupied again after Beach'n sadly closed. That was a satisfying vegan spot, although their hours were challenging for me because they closed by 2PM during the week. The new owners, Nick and Monique Osborne of Mission Rock Resort, appear committed to serving lunch and dinner because they're open until 8PM. This is good news because I usually don't get to the N-Judah terminus until later in the afternoon. When I recently got off the MUNI train, I was so pleased to see this space open. I entered without giving any thought to the menu which fortunately featured several items that would've pulled me in anyway... artisan tacos, soups & stews, salads, wraps, even an ahi tuna tartare. I ordered the $16 Rainbow Salad, quite a lollapalooza of fresh and colorful vegan ingredients tossed decoratively. It managed to look healthy and appetizing at the same time. It was made up of little gems, red cabbage, celery, radish, cilantro, mint, huge florets of pickled cauliflower, pepitas, and the most flavorful ingredient, bits of sweet potato, all tossed in a lime vinaigrette (Photo 8). As I expected, it's not the kind of place with cans of Coke Zero, so I went for the $6 House Guava Soda which added a nice tropical note to my salad (Photo 7). I'll definitely come back for those tacos. It's not every day you see smashburger as a filling. FOOD - 5 stars...that rainbow salad was a lucky pick for me AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...nice beachside vibe, pretty spacious with plenty of outdoor seating SERVICE - 4.5 stars...friendly and proactive with follow-up TOTAL - 5 stars...glad to see the Osbornes committed to recreating their Mission Bay sprit way out in the Sunset RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? New spot for food if you've been getting tired of Hookfish. Although I would stick with their tacos. Ordered the ribeye taco, carnitas taco, fisherman's stew, and chips and guacamole. The ribeye taco was honestly the best taco I've had in a while. The melty cheese, crisped tortilla, and juicy meat was spectacular. The carnitas taco had a large chunk of tender meat, but flavor wasn't as interesting. The fisherman's stew had a lot of pieces of fish, but sadly they tasted a little too burnt from the grill. And at times it just felt like I was eating a watery salsa. The chips and guac were good, but the flavor was a bit one note, mainly sour. The tacos are pricey at $7, but they are worth it.

When I arrived, there was a line out the door. It's a busy spot on weekends. They have decent amount of seating, but very limited indoor seating. Good, casual to grab a quick lunch with friends off of the beach The staff were efficient with ordering and getting drinks out. The food took a little bit to get out. The ahi tuna tare tare was good. My favorite taco was the carnitas one! The ribeye and smash burger tacos were good, but not my favorites. The Michelada was perfect!

Ruby's, on the corner of 48th and Judah is painted in sharp green, so it can't be missed! With interior and exterior seating, you order at the counter, pay, and the food gets delivered to you. Their tacos have all kinds of flavors, sauces and spices, making me want to try them all, although I had an appetite for only the carnitas and cauliflower. My friend ordered the ribeye which she particularly loved and the chorizo. The taco shells are homemade and yummy but they're slightly greasy. Nice spot close to Ocean Beach with warm and welcoming service. Will return to gobble some more!

Really good tacos! My favorite was the steak and shrimp one but all were really good. Cute spot and service was great I'll definitely be coming back.

I got the miso fish wrap. Although the ingredients were quite fresh, the fish could definitely be marinated for longer. It lacked that oomph factor that I was hoping for. Moreover it could have done with a little acidity in the taste profile.

Chorizo tacos, ribeye tacos, carnitas tacos from bottom to top

Have been wanting to check out Rubys since it opened and I will be back very soon. Some of the best tacos I've had in SF, great drink selection, and such a fun laid back spot. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap which I am eyeing for my next visit! Of the three tacos I had (ribeye, carnitas, and chorizo) the carnitas was my favorite!

Loved Ruby's! Such an awesome family-run spot. Highly recommend the ceviche and chips, they were so fresh and flavorful. The tacos are great too, especially the fish taco. I think it could be even better with some pickled onions or a little avocado, but still really good as is. Everything tasted super fresh, and you can tell they use high-quality fish. The staff was also incredibly nice, which made the experience even better. Love this newer spot!

    Indoor Seating

Such a cute spot at the end of the N-line. They really prioritize outdoor seating, perfect spot to enjoy the sun or walk to the beach after for a picnic. I tried the smash burger taco and it was very well balanced between the creamy cheese, sauce, pickles, lettuce, and pickled onions. Will definitely be back to try the breakfast tacos and the guava soda.

Smash burger taco, shrimp taco, fish taco
    Amber G.

Came here for a craving for fish tacos, we got an array of items including the fish, shrimp, cauliflower, and smash burger tacos. The smash burger tacos were a pleasant surprise and our favorite item! The rest of the tacos were alright, but some were dry and could've used some salsa or more filling. We also got the miso fish wrap and I'd say this is a pass... the texture and flavor just were off and it was mostly filled with cabbage. The restaurant has a fair amount of indoor and outdoor seating, and is beautiful on a sunny day in sunset! But on a busy day expect a VERY long wait for your food, I want to say 40 minutes for us.

Found out about this restaurant from an SF Standard article about how the Sunset District has changed over the years, bringing in lots of new restaurats to the Outer Sunset. I couldn't wait to try this restaurant! I love Mexican-seafood dishes. I loved the rockfish and shrimp tacos I got! Both were great. I do remember the shrimp one had a nice spice to it, with roasted corn. The taco shells were amazing too, a little bit more crispy than other places do, but not full on crispy, if that makes sense. We also shared the Ahi Tuna Poke with Chips to share, which was really nice. The quality of the ahi tuna fish was really great, probably the best I can get outside of Hawaii. Although the poke soy sauce flavoring was delicious, it was also a little too salty. My husband got the ribeye taco, which he loved. There was also another, Carnitas, that he didn't' care for too much, as it tasted like Asian flavors from the Hoisin sauce. It was too but just not what he was hoping for in a taco in that moment in time. The tacos were kind of small, so we ended up ordering a Cubano Wrap to share, which was also delicious. It had a really nice crispy wrap, good cheese, and tasted like a Cubano sandwich inside a wrap! It had all the right hams and meats to make it taste authentic. My only things I would add to improve the restaurant would be to expand the menu a little more, to add rice and beans somehow. Or maybe add some fish plates. I just felt I wish I could order different things in addition to the wonderful tacos on the menu, etc. Service here was great. You order right when you get there, then pick out a table yourself to dine at. The ambiance in the restaurant is really cute, completely fresh remodel. It's a modern take on a Mexican restaurant, is the best way I can describe it. Can't wait to return!

Michelada..it was full, I just didn't think to take a pic until already having a few sips!

They accommodated a last minute reschedule - which, let's be honest, in today's day and age is like finding a gold mine. Second. Did I mention food that is served in heaven? A group of five of us went to dinner and we ordered almost every vegetarian dish on the menu. The olives (which came out juicy and warm), the trio of dips and the flatbread (that melted us all), that charred lettuce with a rich nutty dressing, the burrata with kiwis, oh and oh, that cauliflower. Be still, my beating heart. That food, which clearly was meant for gods and accidentally made it to our table. The shakshouka and the couscous entrees following closely behind in rich glory with that delectable cornbread that showed up straight from the oven. I am not exaggerating, dear reader, each bite of food was a gastronomic delight. We wrapped the evening with a date cake that came topped with a rich vanilla ice cream and toasted pecans and the subtle competition of the warm cake and the cold ice cream on our palates made for a perfect culmination to our dinner. And third. The person mixing the drinks back at the bar knows his business well. The mocktails and the cocktails were brilliantly refreshing. The tamarinds and the citrus looking out from the glasses wide eyed, ready to amaze. Good food is one of the few untainted pleasures of humanity. And Aziza served us heaps of it. Do yourself a favor and go savor the flavors Aziza has to offer. You shall not be disappointed.

The tldr - Food: mostly tasty…read more Ambiance: fine, nice decor. Service: poor. My husband and I arrived for our 10:30am reservation for Sunday brunch and were immediately seated as the first patrons in the restaurant. A server immediately introduced themselves, explained the menu, then disappeared. A new server came over some time later and re-explained the menu in the same fashion, by which point we had already decided on our order. We ordered drinks (the Ode to St Anne and the Spa Water), then our food: to share, the burrata, little gems, and French toast. For our entrees, my husband ordered the eggs Benedict and I ordered the shakshuka. I had a brief conversation with our server regarding the shakshuka, ensuring it was vegetarian (I've been burned many times). He told us we had ordered all the best items and proceeded to enter our order at the registers in the corner. The little gems and burrata appetizers arrived fairly quickly, and were tasty. We loved the grilled bread served with the burrata. Not long after those, our cocktails arrived--also tasty. The Spa Water was refreshing and not too strong. After finishing our appetizers, we had a relatively lengthy wait before any additional food arrived. In the meantime, the restaurant was getting busy. The eggs Benedict arrived for my husband, but was placed in the middle of the table, which worried me briefly (regarding timing of the entrees). He dug in--the potatoes served with the eggs were delicious: crispy and heavily seasoned. A while later, our French toast arrived. The toast was a little crispy on the edges and the flavors worked really well together. However, I only had a couple of bites as I wanted to eat my savory entree first. As my husband continued to eat, I waited for my shakshuka dish to arrive. I noticed numerous plates of food exiting the kitchen and being delivered to tables that had been seated well after we had been. Eventually, my husband had finished his entree, and I still hadn't received my food. I caught the eye of our server, who walked over to ask how everything was tasting. We said it was all good, but wanted to check in on my shakshuka dish as it had been a while. He responded that perhaps it was due to the chef's preferred sequencing, but that it'd be coming out soon. I told him that I understood, but that the shakshuka was my entree and my husband had already finished his, and we had not intended to share due to dietary restrictions. The server acknowledged this and walked away, presumably to check on the dish. Another 15 minutes or so went by and I still didn't have my food. We had been there for about an hour and had plans later. The server must have noticed my irritation because he walked over--but then he asked me, "Did you order the shakshuka? Because I thought you ordered the burrata." ...what? I reminded him that we had ordered the burrata to share, but we had ordered separate entrees and mine had been the shakshuka, regarding which we had even had a conversation confirming it's vegetarian. He nodded and walked away... Only to reemerge with his notebook, showing me what he had written: burrata, little gems, eggs Benedict, French toast. No sign of the shakshuka. It felt like he was trying to argue with me. I told him to forget it, I didn't want it anymore as we had somewhere to be. He asked if I was sure and I confirmed to please cancel it (if the order had even been placed at all, I thought). Just then, another employee came up behind him with the plate, and our server said, "well, it's ready now. Is it bad timing?" They plopped the plate in front of me and walked away when I was unsure of how to answer. I ate most of it, and my irritation aside, the dish wasn't anything special. It was a soupy concoction of chickpeas and onions with two raw egg yolks on top, served with a single piece of cold bread (not the delicious grilled bread from the burrata dish). I went to the restroom and returned to find the dishes cleared and my husband with the bill, which of course listed the mysterious shakshuka. I would've thought that after all that, we would've received a discount of some sort (or maybe not have been charged for the shakshuka), but I was mistaken. We left a 15% tip (low for us) and left. There are plenty of excellent dining options in SF--we won't be back.

Obviously, we started eating, but his bread didn't arrive until a full fifteen minutes after we had received the rest of our food. This wasn't some complicated order. It was bread. The place has a cool vibe with the reclaimed wood (or maybe just old?) walls and not too brightly lit dining room. Bathroom was clean. Wait staff was professional and helpful. I wish I have it in me to try their desserts but I was already quite full. (No photos since I made all the food disappeared before the thought of photos popped into my head. Take your sweet time making coffee. Check. Take your sweet time drinking said coffee. Check. Take your sweet time getting ready. Check. Now what? Make breakfast or go out? Maybe grab some fresh pastries & breakfast sandwiches...? Wait. It's a beautiful day. How about a nice drive out along the great highway/ocean beach? Done! A drive out to ocean beach used to mean stopping by the Cliff House but that still isn't even close to being reopened, or "reimagined" yet. Sigh. How about Dutch pancakes? Dutch pancakes means that the first stop is Outerlands. We ordered Dutch pancakes online on the way. Easy breezy. Good thing too because there was still a line for a table even though they were closing in a half hour. The hostess was personable & sweet, despite the fact that it was packed, inside & out. We then headed to Ocean Beach to enjoy our breakfast in the sea air with an ocean view. Crispy on the outside, but custardy in the inside. Not too sweet which is a plus for me; you can always alter the sweetness by asking for extra syrup. I think next time I'll request extra powdered sugar. Don't let the wait & the line scare you away. There's nothing standing between you & a very good Dutch pancake except placing an online order. 4 stars.

I've dined here more than a handful of times and every visit was memorable. Sung and his team consistently delivered exceptional food, every dish was solid and clearly made with pride. You could taste the quality and it was consistent every single time. Beyond the food, what always stood out was the hospitality. Sung genuinely made an effort to connect with his guests, remembering faces, checking in at the table and ensuring everyone felt welcomed and valued. He made sure you had a good experience and you could tell he cared. One thing I've learned on my food journey is this: follow the chef. When you find someone who pours heart into their craft, you support them wherever they go next! Looking forward to whatever Sung does next. I already know it's for sure going to be just as good!

Even before this most recent visit, I'd enjoyed intimate dinners here for its creative, Korean-Thai-inspired menu that always packed an impressive punch of flavor but, dare I say, the brunch might be even better. The steak sandwich was absolutely phenomenal, with the steak seasoned and cooked to perfection and pairing beautifully with the charred onion aioli, plus a side of expertly crisped smashed potatoes that were so addicting. The steamed mussels were sumptuous and packed with umami, and I loved the two large bricks of toasted sourdough focaccia that were perfect for sopping up every last bit of the delicious dashi broth. But the pièce de résistance was the custard French toast, which I can only describe as the love child of bread pudding and tres leches cake as it was crispy on the outside but uber moist on the inside, custardy, and simply divine. Kothai will be deeply missed in the neighborhood, but I'm excited to see what's next for chef/owner Sung Park and will be first in line for whatever future project comes next.

We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and were greeted and seated within 5 minutes. The menu is reasonable and had good offerings. Both my husband and I opted for the Price Fixe 4 course dinner which was more of a tasting menu, $55.00 per person and absolutely delicious it started with a generous salad, a cup of ginger carrot soup, choice of entree and chocolate chip cookies with tahitisn vanilla milk for desert. We both had the NY steak . Every bite was delicious. We were very content but I will add if you have a large appetite you might be better ordering off the main menu. Great service, delicious food and a cozy dining room with a fireplace. We both agreed we can't wait to go back!

First off, the actual restaurant and the fireplace were so cute, very romantic and love the dim lighting. The service was also incredible. The servers and host were fabulous and attentive, and I got to meet the owner, and he was so kind. Bonus that the owner seemed like he enjoys being on the ground working with the people; and loved that he complimented me and my date. Cocktails were fabulous and very creative; probably one of the few nice cocktail bars out in the Richmond district. The food was very flavorful. My date got the steak and that was cooked with very nicely, although I think it could have use a little more chimichurri. But I got the prime rib bolognese pasta (I think that's what it was called) and that tasted so good; not as heavy as I thought it was going to be. We shared their ahi tuna, which tasted so fresh, and the dessert we got was decent (I'm not totally big on super sweet desserts but this was fine). Overall, I highly recommend coming here, and I plan on coming back as well.

We made reservations just in case which is a good call, even though for 5pm opening, as otherwise you'll be seated at the bar. We got the breaking bread, octopus and sujuk, lamb chops, and warm irmik helvase cobbler. For drinks we had Saturnalia and shepherd's pipes. The breaking bread is a must get item as it is a giant pita bread with a variety of spreads which all make it so wonderful. The octopus and sujuk is fairly unique, kind of like a carpaccio. The lamb chops were okay - a bit small for the price. The cobbler is fairly hearty and sweet The cocktails are pretty delicious, especially the Saturnalia which is fairly aesthetic and had a milky aftertaste. The shepherd's pipes were a bit watered down. Service is okay - it takes some time to fulfill our requests but understandable as it was a bit busy
