I visited Violet's tonight for the first time, and for dropping in on a Saturday night and sitting at the bar for dinner, the service was PHENOMENAL. My bartender was Israel who was quick to give recommendations on both the meal and dessert, and also made a good sazerac. The porkchop and key lime pie were both delicious, and throughout the night I had the chance to meet Samantha, and co-owners Jessica & Liza. They welcomed me to the neighborhood, shared a little bit of the story of their place, and were beyond friendly and accommodating. The decor and feeling inside the restaurant are perfect for a casual dinner and cocktail, date night, or celebration with friends. After tonight, I promise to become a regular of Violet's as my favorite place on this side of the city. read more

Went 4/4 afternoon sat inside hot day. The doors were left open so there were Nats The design is not flowing, people swish into a small space. The tables are so close together along the wall you're in strangers conversations it's echoey and overstimulating. The food is mid range price. The mussels were too salty but I liked them overall. The burger was great. Loved the bacon not too greasy but juicy. Would have loved more fries but not terrible portion. The pork chop was tough, but tasted good. The bacon around the asparagus was cooked and more raw in parts would have loved a ln overall cook. The mash was jsit okay. The sauce with the pork chop was good. The drinks were what we came for and loved. We waited a while to get a box and then longer to get the check. Over all a good week night dinner but not for groups larger imo, unless seated outside. Friends live in the neighborhood so we come here for drinks every now and then. Great cozy atmosphere and friendly service. The vibe is definitely upscale neighborhood bar, feels like you'll run into the couple you always see at the same coffee shop on the corner on a date night here. The dirty martinis had perfect flavor, however, missed the mark on temp. Way too warm coming out. A simple change of icing down the glasses (or better yet, freezing them) would make this an excellent option on a weekday or chill Friday night for a quick drink with friends. read more

What a nice surprise as I was running an errand close by and by chance I remembered Violet's and how I wanted to try the food. Walking in at 5 pm I was greeted by Dolly who was tending the Bar who enthusiastically explained that it was HH until 6 pm and what was on that menu. Started off with the N/A IPA followed by my selection of linguini and clams. Asking Dolly her thoughts on it, she explained in detail that the sauce was not light as most but slightly heavier like a mushroom sauce. Well, it was amazing and plated nicely on a shallow plate. I also ordered 2 of the street tacos since it was still HH and the carne asada and carnitas tacos were simply made of which I learned the corn tacos are made at the time of ordering. My first time here was a pleasant experience. We both agreed that our food was good, one dish was creative but fell a bit short if you ask me. All the other plates were acceptable but nothing great. I think they can amp up some of the flavors to make the food shine. The most memorable, fun dish was the coffee crusted salmon! It was very delicious the only thing was the sauce did not work for me. Beige yellow,lack luster, and just didn't go with coffee flavor well. The cherry tomatoes didn't need to be on the plate. Key lime pie was outstanding but thin & more of a tart but its a must!!! Honestly this place wash serving up some good eats. Ambiance was decent but could use some work, as for the service ... it was pretty good. One thing to note is that it's definitely not pet-friendly given how the tables are laid out and the limited space. Charming and relaxed restaurant with great fresh food, friendly service, and solid cocktails. Walked by on Saturday and made it a point to return to the next day on Sunday. Especially when I noticed they do $12 for all their house cocktails on Sundays. Went for Sunday Happy Hour to get a few bites. Good crispy and thick homemade old bay style chips with a creamy and tasty onion dip was $8 on the happy hour. Also grabbed a couple of glasses of some really delicious white wine ($8/ea). This made us more hungry and we tried the fried chicken and mac and cheese combo. The chicken tasted fresh, juicy on the inside with a golden crispy and crunchy crust. I only wish it came with a sauce of some sort. We asked for hot sauce and ranch. Both homemade and paired well with it! We finished off with a couple of cocktails and a key lime pie. Both drinks were excellently crafted and the pie was perfect. We were too excited so didn't photograph it. I am looking forward to returning and having some dinner here. This was our return visit to Violet's, and it somehow managed to be even more amazing than the first. The owners, Yessica and Lyza, truly magnify the entire experience--they make you feel welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely cared for from the moment you walk in. Came to Violet's on a Saturday night and was greeted by the friendly manager, Liza. We ordered gambas, braised short ribs and the linguine. The food was amazing...it was perfect. And to top it off, the Mexican white and red wines that we chose were a perfect pairing. The staff were super attentive, friendly and made us feel really welcomed. We loved it so much that we came back the next day , and we look forward to making this our regular spot. 3.5 stars. Service was excellent but some of the dishes had some room for improvement. First, I should start off by saying they may have been short staffed that night. My friend noticed only one bartender, one waitress, and one chef. It wasn't packed inside, but still enough to keep them busy. And who knows if they were doing online orders so that is a possible factor. For myself, I ordered the mac and cheese with broccoli and the barbecue oysters. The portion is a good size for dinner for one person and I could only eat half. They used pasta shells, which caught all that cheesy goodness. The breadcrumbs and broccoli gave it a nice crunch. I'm glad they used broccoli because it seems everyone uses cauliflower. It's nice to see a little greenery. The barbecue oysters tasted delicious. I would drink that chipotle and butter sauce if I could. It had a good kick and the butter was light. I felt the oysters were still on the rawer side, which I was fine with because I like oysters regardless. I think the acidity from the chipotle/butter sauce compliments the texture, like the way lime juice can cook raw fish. But I think barbecuing the oysters all the way to give them a meatier texture would've really made the dish outstanding. I also got to try one of their deviled eggs with fried leeks. That was a mighty tasty egg! It had the classic flavors and the fried leeks have it a good crunch. My friend and I always get dessert and the big ass cookie caught my eye. But for $10, I was expecting bigger and chewier. The cookie was very hard and I felt the size was standard of one you'd get at Hot Cookie. The flavor was good though. It had large chocolate chunks and sea salt flakes. The texture let it down. I would say this is a cozy neighborhood bar. The space is kinda tight at the entrance, but there's more room once you're seated at the sides of the restaurant. I used to live two blocks away before Violet's took the space and I can see myself coming here for a drink with those deviled eggs. I live farther out now, but I would come back to try their risotto when it's back on the menu. They offer a $35 3-course pre fixe menu, which I think is a good deal. I feel like I only see that price during restaurant week. So if you've been curious about Violet's, you should check them out. Visited this past weekend, and thought the place was lovely. A small space with indoor and outdoor seating, simple and modern setting. The service was excellent, the server even asking about dietary restrictions and allergies when we placed our order, and the wait times were reasonable. We enjoyed our cocktails, the ultraviolet and crossover old fashioned, which both had a nice blend of flavors to please our palates. From the dinner menu, I loved the fried chicken with mac n cheese, a little different than usual with broccoli mixed in with the side dish, but it was good. The chicken was delicious, oddly shaped like balls, but nicely seasoned and juicy inside, one with white meat and two pieces with dark meat. With the pre fixe meal, we had the market salad which came with unique dressings we got on the side, creamy risotto with yummy wild mushrooms, and the big ass chocolate chip cookie for dessert, surprisingly our least favorite item, nice and chocolatey, thick with layers, but a bit hard in consistency and the overall flavor not as appealing, definitely not ten dollars worth. Prices are a little high for what you get here, but it's still a cute and cozy date night spot serving decent food and drinks. We also had no problem finding free street parking a block away on a Saturday evening, but perhaps we just got lucky. read more

Amazing desserts and staff! My friend and I came during SF restaurant week to try out their 3 course meal with a cocktail for $45. We got their house salad as an entree (3/5 - not that special or particularly delicious), Thai-style chicken schnitzel (2/5 - so so dry and the sauce just wasn't flavorful), Delicata Squash Cake w/ Cream Cheese Frosting (5/5 so yummy and perfectly not too sweet), and another dessert that I can't find the name of but (5/5) super unique and crunchy! Did the $35 prix fixe menu with the wine pairing and it was just okay. The menu seems to change every now and then for the prix fixe so this is just a review for the early June menu. Started off with a sparkling rose with the appetizer which was nice. I got the chicken sausage, great flavor I think my favorite dish of the night, and my boyfriend got the vichyssoise (cold soup) which he was not a fan of. For the main I got the pappardelle pasta, which I was not a fan of it felt like they tossed a salad on top of it and there was barely any pasta. My boyfriend got the jerk chicken which was super flavorful and juicy. For dessert we both got the strawberry shortcake which was really good but way too full to finish it so we took it home. Service was really good the server was really attentive and the food came out pretty quick as well. I like how they offer $35 for their menu but maybe the next one will be better. We had gotten the chicken sausage, the pappardelle, and the strawberry shortcake. Dined in at Violet's on the corner of 24th & Clement. Contemporary, open atmosphere, nice soft lighting with the main focus of their beautifully lit bar when you walk in. No worries, plenty of cozy seating inside and outside. Our Party of 5 were greeted and seated inside within a few minutes. They offer a $35 prix fixe menu w/starter, entree and dessert. The prix fixe has an option, additional cost, for a wine or cocktail pairing. There's a small happy hour offering in a box at the bottom of the menu. We started with the house red wine, Crossover Old Fashioned and a signature UltraViolet cocktail of a Butterfiy Pea Flower Gin, Hendrick's gin (Scottish gin infused w/cucumber & rose), Creme de Violet, Simple Syrup, Cucumber & Lime, latter really good and refreshing! There were also repeat orders of their Old Fashioneds. Ordered two of the prix fixe menus, one with a wine pairing and one w/out pairing. Any items on the prix fixe menu can be ordered Ala carte. Both chose: (two options per course) * STARTER: Market salad w/chicories, dressing of lemon ricotta & pepitas. This is a edgy, bitter salad that I loved especially with the light Lemon Ricotta dressing, the pepitas a delightful crunch throughout but the bitterness is definitely not for everyone. I'd order it again. * ENTREE: Risotto w/Wild mushrooms, oregano vinaigrette, garnished w/sliced radishes & freshly grated Parmesan. Piping hot and very tasty biting into crunchy radishes, morsels of mushrooms and tender risotto finishing w/a light kiss of the oregano vinaigrette. Totally would order this again. * DESSERT: Strawberry Shortcake Smash. Who can say strawberries & whipped cream is bad? Only drawback to this luscious dessert was the dense shortbread which made it difficult to dive into all the way down the layers to grab a bite of everything on a spoon. There was some spots, maybe the middle of the shortbread where the strawberries & cream sat a little longer, where it was softer and it made for a perfect bite! Chocolate chip cookie was warm, big and loaded with chunks of chocolate which I love (v. Chocolate chips). Only disappointment looking at this looked to be a warm soft center with a crispy sides. It was crispy all the way through. And most of us at the table liked a warm, soft center. Still a great crispy chocolate chip cookie! All the other diners while not doing prix fixe saw all of us having the Risotto mushroom as the entree! Definitely would order again. The one prix fixe w/wine pairing was happy w/Brut Rose w/the market salad and Il Campo Rosso w/the mushroom risotto. Service was quietly fast, attentive and nice! This place has just gotten better and better since the new owners took over this adorable neighborhood spot about a year ago. The cocktails are on point and creative, and the wine list is great (and the bartender is super knowledgeable about the wines). The tasty menu has a lot to offer, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or want something special occasion-worthy. I can't help myself from ordering the appetizers: the arancini balls, the deviled eggs, the crudo -- so good. I've tried almost all the fish dishes and they were all amazing, and I was just in there the other night and the table next to us ordered cioppino latino and it looked AMAZING, so I guess I know what I'm having the next time I'm there. I'm going to start this off with the disclaimer that while the food all looked amazing, a few of us were strictly looking for cocktails. The food was actually recommended and one of the main reasons we stopped by, though we only ended up having dessert and drinks. The carrot cake, and I say this as a carrot cake aficionado, was splendid. Not overly sweet but had enough of the genuine carrot flavor to really stand out among the spices. Key lime pie was also unbelievable, though let's get down to it, cocktail time! I was fortunate enough to have really enjoyed both of mine, the Ultraviolet was fabulous (though my tastes appreciate gin and cucumber). Though the experience of the rest of my group was mixed. So many clever ideas I need to try out in my own cooking: * The arancini were sublime in general, but particularly the way the lemon and the chipotle aioli worked together * The deviled eggs were simple (not a complaint, very well executed) but the crispy leeks are a great touch * The pork chop was quite good overall but the pickled pineapple pico de gallo it comes with is incredible. I'd never had pickled pineapple before and now I'm wondering why. The key lime pie wasn't particularly unusual but it was delightful. Oddly I wasn't a big fan of the UltraViolet cocktail I got, it was beautiful and well made but not really to my taste. The margarita I had after it was top notch though.
