Cool little space, seems like they're attached to the restaurant next door? I stopped by for a drink to watch the 49ers game a couple weekends back and enjoyed the atmosphere! Staff was on top of it and very friendly. One of the nicer dive bars in the Richmond.

All the food was delicious and the bartender was very nice. I think she is from thailand.Good spot on Wednesday

My spouse and I were super excited for the game as we both are huge WNBA fans. We get to the front and are barely greeted by two confused looking staff members. I tell them I have a reservation at 7 and requested a booth. To my surprise these two aren't listening and the gentleman says "booths are for reservations" I just said that. The lady with braces leads us to a table away from the main bar where the Valkyries are playing and the table is dirty. Finally she comes back after about 10 mins and at this point I'm ready to leave. We ask about the game and it's a bunch of head shaking and "unfortunately" conversation. Then as I say one more time I had a reservation booked 5 days ago she said oh let me check. WHAT??? please find better and more personable/attentive staff. I was much nicer than I should have been. I've been emotionally drained as I had attended a funeral that day and another 2 weeks prior and just wanted to brighten my day by watching my Valks play. Everyone doesn't have the patience for stupidity and subpar service. Please do better as I enjoy the atmosphere and coming together for women's sports.

For those of us who only eat outdoors, there are a few tables outside the bar that are pretty comfortable although it can get windy. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted with friendliness, all of the menus we might need, and an explanation of drinks, beer and wine. We chose to go all out and got a small pizza, their delicious onion dip, meatballs - more on that later - and buffalo wings. I was a bit disappointed that the happy hour wine was a Chardonnay and not the Ferentino that they let me taste, but the replacement house May logger was delicious. My husband had a steam beer, which was also very good. Throughout the service was impeccable, and we actually met the manager, Jon, who had a long conversation with us about the history of the bar and how they were trying to be a neighborhood comfortable place which they certainly have succeeded at. Now for the food - the meatballs were the best I have ever had in San Francisco and I am Italian from New York so that's saying something. We actually let Jon know who told the chef and it turns out the chef is from New Jersey so that makes a lot of sense. The onion dip is something like I've never had before. It's a crème fraîche with scallions I think? And maybe a bit of garlic and housemaid chips. We ate every single bite and actually dipped our pizza crust in the rest of the dip. The margarita pizza was also very good and as I finished it off for lunch today, I can tell you it's just as good the next day. The buffalo wings were what I would call actual buffalo style - I could taste the butter, hot sauce and garlic powder like back in the day on the East Coast. The chicken itself was good, not fatty, and the sauce was just like I want it. They offered ranch and blue cheese dip, which was great. We then had further conversations with almost all the staff who were so welcoming and friendly. We don't live super nearby, but I know we're going to go back to dinner, because I am dying to get their pork chop that looked really good. They also came and helped us put the stuff in boxes and explained the best way to take pizza home, which I never knew before. I can't wait to go back again

It strikes a great balance between laid-back and social without ever feeling overcrowded or chaotic. The beer selection is excellent, with a wide range of options that cater to just about every taste. Whether you're into crisp lagers, bold IPAs, or something a little more adventurous, there's plenty to choose from. Everything we tried was fresh and well poured, making it easy to enjoy more than one without feeling overwhelmed by the menu. One thing that really stood out is the food menu. There's a solid variety of options that pair perfectly with the beer, so it's not just a place to drink, it's a place to actually enjoy a full experience. The menu feels thoughtfully put together, with choices that are satisfying, shareable, and ideal for a relaxed beer hall setting. The Beer Hall delivers on all fronts: atmosphere, beer, and food. It's the kind of place you can casually stop into and end up staying longer than planned. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great beer selection, good eats, and a genuinely enjoyable vibe.

From the outside, The Beer Hall almost blended into its surroundings - I almost walked right by if it hadn't been for the neon "The Beer Hall" sign. The taproom is quite spacious and could accommodate several large groups; however, the night of our visit was relatively quiet, perhaps due to the cold weather. Since there weren't any large tables, our group spread out over three smaller tables. As people came and went throughout the evening, it was convenient that we could each order our own beer and food at the bar. I selected an IPA from Fieldwork, a local favorite, and the beer stayed cold and refreshing throughout the evening. The food menu was limited, but I was craving something warm and salty to pair with my beer. For nearly $10, the fries weren't cheap, but the plate was piled high with some of the best fries I've had in a while. They were served piping-hot alongside two dipping sauces - aioli and ketchup. My friends sitting around me couldn't resist them either, and the mountain of fries disappeared in record time. The servers at the bar were very friendly and checked in on our group often. We spent a few hours enjoying our conversation and beer, overall having a fun, laid-back evening.

Arrived on a Friday around 5pm with no wait... though it started filling up pretty quickly after we were seated so the timing worked in our favor. It's a bar and restaurant with mostly high top seating... dark, casual vibe with TVs showing games. Staff was friendly throughout. For $30 we each got a main, two sides, and dessert... a great way to get a real taste of what Hardwood has to offer. We got two orders: 1) smoked pulled pork with coleslaw and cornbread, and 2) mesquite BBQ chicken with curly fries and collard greens. Both came with a nilla wafer pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious and had that hometown BBQ feel. The portions were so generous, we even had leftovers! What made it even better was that we caught happy hour, which runs separately from restaurant week. For $10 you get a pint of beer or cider plus a well shot... hard to argue with that. Reasonably priced drinks on top of an already solid meal made this one of the better value outings I've had in SF. Already thinking about going back outside of restaurant week, and knowing that with its generous portions we can probably share next time.
