Great restaurant in this prime location near the beach. Food was good and price is fair. Staff is nice and attentive. It's nice they have a pick up/to-go ordering window on the side because sometimes going into a restaurant to pick up your order when it's packed is not fun. So glad their second location is here in the Sunset. There seems to be always a crowd here so that's a good thing. I hope this business thrives. Do you love double-layered tortillas around your super-meaty tacos? Well, then Underdogs Too is your kinda place! =). A Nick's Way Taco is a taco with a crispy corn tortilla wrapped in a soft corn tortilla with Monterey Jack cheese, pinto beans, pico de gallo & guacamole. I ordered two tacos "Nick's Way" . The first was a regular Pollo taco (grilled chicken) and the other was a Pollo Asado taco (shredded chicken raised by local provider Mary's Chicken). Both tacos came with a lot of pico de Gallo, and a HUGE dollop of Guacamole! After trying both of the tacos back to back, I think I'll go back for the regular Pollo (grilled chicken) version, as I found it more tasty.. PRO TIP: These little tacos are very filling! Next time, I'll just order just one for lunch - that's plenty, unless I was absolutely starving.... I first experienced these tacos when they had a booth at a local street fair, and was happy to happen upon this little corner of 46tj/Taraval way out here on the farthest Avenues in the Outer Sunset. Despite its proximity to the Ocean just a couple of blocks down the street, we visited here on a warm day to again savor this special style of taco. Worth coming back for sure. I have mixed feelings about this location because I usually go to the 9th Ave one and it's a hit every time. We normally get the fish tacos, nicks way and nachos there and have always had a great experience. Today, we were taking a stroll along Great Highway and had a spontaneous craving for a fish taco (regular) and margaritas, so we decided to stop by. The margarita was well made - no complaints there. Unfortunately, the fish taco was a bit disappointing. Just from the look of it, something seemed off. The batter was very dark and had a strong fried/burnt oil smell, which made me wonder if the oil was old or if it had been fried more than once. The biggest issue was that there was barely any fish inside - it felt pretty hollow and was mostly batter. We ended up eating around the batter and wished we had taken a picture. Maybe it was just an off day, but the taco definitely wasn't what we expected and left us a little unsatisfied. We'll probably stick with the 9th Ave location next time since it's been much more consistent. That said, the location is great - being right by the beach makes it a nice spot to stop by. Stopped by Underdogs Too on Taraval and honestly the vibe was pretty cool. Definitely feels like one of those neighborhood sports bars that's perfect for catching the World Cup or a game with friends. I ordered the mahi burrito and it was kind of a letdown. The fish was pretty dry, so it didn't really hit for me. I'd still come back though. We often goto Underdogs Too whenever we head to the zoo or the pump track at the Great Highway. I tried the street tacos with al pastor for the first time today. They were saucier and sweeter than I expected. They were still tasty, but I think I still prefer their other offerings like carne asada or fish. Service is always attentive here, even when they are busy. It was easy finding parking on the same block today since it was a weekday, but even on the weekend, you're able to find parking relatively easy within a couple of blocks. I stopped by here last night with a friend to catch the NBA game. We have been to Underdogs at there other locations before and decided to check out this new one. I got there a bit earlier than he did, and the place was already getting packed! I was lucky enough to get us some seats inside with a shared table and ordered a bucket of beers (5 for the price of 6!) and waited for my buddy. The place itself is nice, there's an outdoor area on both sides for enjoyment and a TV if you're bored with talking to your friends (I kid!). But it's a nice layout with a bar and plenty of TVs inside to not miss any of the action. My buddy showed up, and we decided to go with the Loaded Nachos with Carnitas, and woahhhh were they loaded! They came out, and I was like damn, this could feed 3 people by itself. I asked for some spicier sauce, and they did not miss. Their habanero sauce was exactly the heat I was looking for to add on top of these nachos! A 3rd friend showed up a bit later, and lucky for us, it was Wing Wednesday. We got some wings and found them just a bit overcooked than we liked, but just might be their style. Flavoring was good, but the wings were just a bit tougher than we were used to. Lots of space inside with both bench and bar seating. The staff was really friendly and checked on us throughout the meal without being overbearing. Service was top notch - they accidentally got one of our orders wrong and immediately offered for us to keep the wrong order on the house and then brought out the right order after. The service was delightful, our waiter was super knowledgeable and took our orders right away. I tried the chips and salsa to begin with and it was delicious! The chips were nice and crunchy with a perfect layer of salt, the salsa was a tomatillo type which was really refreshing. Then I got the flautas, 2 chicken and 1 beef. These were delicious as well, I preferred the chicken over the beef, it had more flavor. This plate came with salad and guac/ cream & cheese on top.. everything came together just right. Such a fun spot to go with fam and friends! Came here after walking my dog at the beach around 1:30pm on a Saturday, and there was a 15-20 min wait for outdoor seating. Several booths and benches for outdoor seating, which was perfect for my dog. Luckily, we got the booth! Not a bad wait time, and our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered 3 tacos (Al Pastor, Pollo Asada, Carne Asada) and they packed a lot of meat in each! I'd say it was pretty good, a bit dry, but the sauce they provided made it better. My dad loved his dish! I can't remember what it was called, there was a salad on the side and there were 3 wraps on his plate with cottage cheese and sour cream. I loved his dish more than mine! We both really enjoyed our meal, I'd love to come back after another walk along the beach. The location is also great with little stores and cafes nearby. Friendly staff - trust me, when they talk to you you can tell they are genuine and naturally friendly. 2. Food - People who gave this restaurant 1 star should be banned from giving reviews, you will also notice that they have given very few reviews in the past. I got 2 beef, which were my fav and a chicken. The salad was boring and bland with a decent scoop of bland guacamole. Hubby tried the burrito bowl and said he really enjoyed it. Hubby & I finished a round of golf at Lincoln golf course, and we were ready to have a cold one. Being a beautiful sunny day in the City yesterday we decided to head over to Underdogs located by the Great Highway. We entered the restaurant and waited to be seated. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We chose indoor as we been in the sun for four hours. We were given the drink menu and the food menu. Typically we'd both will get the Nick's taco but we both decided on burritos. Ordered - * hubby got the SF burrito with carne asada as his protein. Hubby doused his with both the red and green hot sauces from squirt bottles. * I went with the Baja burrito- mahi mahi as my protein. Mine had just enough fire. Both burritos were very hefty. They went well with our draft IPAs. This location is very roomy. There's a bar with plenty of TVs throughout. It was a nice way to wrap up our outdoor activity. My friend Denise Hansford used to boast that her family owns Bashful Bull on Taraval in elementary school. I always wanted to go, but only many decades later when it's called Underdogs Too. It was a bustling Monday night and we were expected to wait for half a hour but were seated in about 15 minutes. The margarita was delicious, burrito tasty, fish tacos were buttery (Nick's way makes it cheesy and crispy), and the nachos are plentiful with toppings! On a whim, I visited Underdogs Too to catch a Warriors game, and it truly embodies everything one desires in a sports bar: an array of flat-screen TVs, pitchers of margaritas complemented by a diverse selection of beers, and carb-laden meals that fuel a drunken game-watching. For our party of eight, seating was secured within twenty minutes on a Thursday evening, not bad at all. The televisions were all activated, and water was promptly served. I ordered the carne asada quesadilla; though, I'd say with its thicker, more rounded form, it resembled more a grilled burrito. They're pretty generous with fillings and was just what I needed to accompany the martini I also ordered (don't judge but it's an awesome pairing). And despite the chips on the side not being complimentary, they're worth ordering if you appreciate a more substantial chip. They're also freshly fried and come piping hot to the table. My best friend and I came here for a snack after visiting nearby Sunset Dunes. I really liked the concept of picnic tables indoors, which emphasized the beachy feel of the place while being comfortably tucked away from the elements. We got the skinny guac with veggies along with some churros to share. The guac was pretty standard, but the churros were out of this world. Fresh, hot, and crispy directly from the fryer, even our waitress mentioned the smell of them suddenly made her feel hungry, although she hadn't been prior. I was disappointed the egg was scrambled (like scrambled separately and then sprinkled into the chips) instead of fried and runny on top, which I prefer. After a long day we were looking for a nice place to relax, have a bite to eat, and watch a little football! Earlier in the day someone had recommended Underdogs Too, and boy are we glad they did! We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle AND a college football game! Plus, there were lots of folks from the neighborhood to chat with and give us recommendations for other dining and drinking establishments! I had a Smoky Sandia (Yum!) and the bean and corn salad with tons of cheese, avocado and carne asada. It was truly the best salad I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. As much as I miss Bashful Bull, I like this new location for Underdogs (2). Parking can be tricky, since it's residential and street parking can be hit or miss. There's lots of room and space inside, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I liked my al pastor quesadilla. Very affordable, flavorful, and not overly greasy. It was a nice meal/snack to enjoy while watching a sports game on one of their many large TVs. Drinks are a bit pricier though. Service was friendly but lacking. The SF burrito is what I ordered and it was amazing. My girl got flautas and she said they were good, I tried it and it wasn't that good. The tortilla I think was burnt and turned to ash in my mouth. Appetizers: first, we ordered the salsa, guac and chips. This was delicious and I'd definitely eat this again! The chicken quesadilla was really dry but also.. WHEAT tortilla!? That was an interesting choice. Drinks: we both ordered the watermelon agua Fresca which was pretty sweet so we watered it down but not bad! Dessert: okay you guys.
