I had an incredible experience today at the Ruby Room, thanks to Kimberly P's recommendation. It started as soon as I walked into the store front and led upstairs to the second floor for my 60 min. Intuitive Blend, which includes auratherapy, intuitive exploration and energy healing, At first it felt a little hokey, with all the different kinds of stones, candles, aromatherapy oils and self help books, but it was quite serene and the soothing aromas began to calm my nerves, after my driving the busy Chicago streets. The staff was very nice and I was offered a drink as I waited for Colleen to finish up with a prior appointment. Colleen shortly greeted me with her calming voice and led me into the back room for my Intuitive Blend. I was a little skeptical especially after I saw a computer with camera in the corner, but whatever.... Go with the flow. Oh boy, from the minute Colleen and I started talking about my auras to the final bSupported spritz, all the positive signs /energys were there. Thank You So Much Colleen! It was a very enlightening experience, even when the alarm system was going off, and I look forward to our next healing service. I will definitely be back to the Ruby Room to try some of the other salon and spa services. A bit pricey but not something you do everyday. read more

I cannot even put in words how amazing Paul, my esthetician for 2+ years, is, but I'll give it a try! I followed him from his last place of employment because he knows exactly how to treat my skin and get it looking in tip-top shape! Not only is the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable, but Paul is one of the sweetest people I know:) I also love gabbing with the rest of the staff on my way out as I'm perusing all the cool retail products they carry... highly recommended! i'm already excited for my appointment next month!! and, by the way, i ALWAYS find parking on the same block!!! read more

What an enchanting place! My cousin and friend recommended the Ruby Room and conveniently they had a Groupon special going for facials! I am 28 and have never had a facial-- and I can't believe I've been missing out all these years! Victoria was knowledgeable and made me very relaxed as she guided through my the dermabrasion. My whole experience was soothing and my skin was glowing afterwards. I immediately noticed a difference because she had spent a lot of time getting the blockage from my nose pores and overall looked very healthy. Highly recommend! read more

I really love this place. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, the people who work there are always sweet and friendly, and my favorite Esthetician, Amy, is kind, knowledgeable, intelligent, and soothing. She has an amazingly healing touch and should be tipped accordingly. For a long time, I went here for all my Brazilian waxing and Amy always did an outstanding job. Occasionally I found someone who wasn't quite as good as she was, though the job was always adequate. Amy worked me through the pain and encouraged me along the way. I am now fighting my way through laser treatments which are excruciatingly painful, and am sad that Amy is not there to give me a pep talk. Ruby Room facials are a truly luxurious event. You relax under a heated blanket in a dimly lit room and while the facial sits expect a great short massage. Make sure to put two hours in the meter because they last a good hour and a half. I have only ever gotten facials with Amy, though I have one scheduled with someone new this week, so I will see and report back... read more

I came here for my first ever brazilian wax. I had done a lot of research and found out that it is very important to find someone you trust and will make you feel comfortable. This is exactly what I found when I had my first appointment with Karma. I could not have been more relieved when I met her and she walked me through the process. She did such a great job and made me so comfortable. I am excited to keep going back for more waxes, which is something I wasn't sure I could be excited about before I tried it. Price wise, it is middle of the road from other spas I researched. I felt like I got a deal though based on the great service. I definitely will pay the money to get a good experience. Plus the Ruby Room rewards program is super awesome and is an incentive to keep going. read more

Entirely too much talking and too many crystals and witchy gimmicks. Hard to relax for a massage with so much talking and then selling at the end. My 90 min massage was really 60 min after the long set up and chakra consultation. I would have booked a simple 90 min Swedish massage had I known. You could also hear a lot of outside noise during treatment (I.e. Doors slamming, people talking, etc). This place is cute and I really wanted to love it but I will still the Peninsula or Waldorf. I feel like you get what you pay for. ‍ read more

Staying at Ruby Room was nice overall. I am too old to do this again, going up four flights of narrow stairs to the room. The bed is comfortable. I think there is no more "steam shower" because there was nothing unusual about this shower. I enjoyed the nice quality shampoo and body wash. I realize this is connected to a spa but I would be happy to have a radio at least in a hotel room for weather reports and some nice music. The sign said there would be a CD player in the room but there was none. read more

An really cool place offering a vast array of services and products. The boutique is cute carrying many products that are on the healthier side...for skin, hair, etc. My only beef is the lack of knowledge of some of the girls who work there. They are one of the very few boutiques (if not the only one) in Chicago that sells Arcona products. Every time I go in to replenish, I ask the same question regarding a few of their products...and each time the answer is different. Either you know the product line, or you don't. I would rather them tell me they just don't know, rather than give me their opinion. Anyway, as a result, I have a few extra products that have not lived up to their reputation as reputed by the sales assts. Other than that, the place is amazing. The staff is super sweet and try to be helpful. It really is hard to leave their empty handed. read more

I have only ever visited the yoga studio at Ruby Room and I am love the studio space and the instructors. The studio is minimalist in design and aesthetics and I really liked the calming effect it has. I know some complained about street noise but I actually really like the buzz of the city, it is something that has become a comforting white noise that I mostly tune out. I have been to 3 community classes and 1 regular class. My favourite teachers so far have been Jessica and Vicki, both for different reasons. Jessica was very attentive to each student, helping us get deeper into some of the poses and she ended the class with some aromatherapy which was a nice touch. Oh, and she handed out cookies. Vicki was rapid and had a great flow of movements and I didn't notice the 90 minutes fly by. I have never done Vinyasa yoga before and had practiced Bikram yoga on-and-off for years and I realize that I feel more of a cathartic release from Vinyasa yoga and Ruby Room is my new go to spot! My only warning is that there is only 1 bathroom so come dressed and it will make your visit easier. read more

I had the pleasure of finally mustering enough courage to visit Ruby Room. I say courage as it always struck me as a place that primarily catered to the female demographic; however, despite this, what I partly assumed it was all about and partly what I heard from others, I felt the products/services were those that would be of great interest. So I gave it a shot. Results: Extremely Impressed from the moment I walked in the door to the second I left the premises. I was initially/immediately greeted by a group of lovely ladies and the best part, it was a greeting that was genuine and the best I can describe, lovely. And for someone that already had some reservations or honestly intimidation about entering a place I assumed it to be, it dispelled any of those previous notions and I immediately felt at home. From the extraordinary detail, the layout, the 'beyond cool' design, the energy, the quality oriented service, it was essentially 'bar non' for me. As a result, relishing in the experience, I decided I'd get a 10 minute intuition reading. Although an open-minded person, there's always that natural human skepticism for what's unknown and unfamiliar. What resulted was me being blown away of how spot on my Reader was and how amazed I was that she was able to open up a well-protected/fortressed me. And she was incredibly personable, non-threatening and respectful. I left extremely relaxed, kind of confused in the what in the world just happened type of way (good thing) and quite honestly less stressed and emotionally good. I've since recommended to my immediate/closest friends, one of which visited a few days later with his girlfriend and her mom and, although in their own words, I gathered that their sentiments regarding Ruby Room was no less different. I'm hopeful this helps, especially for the male population, it's a pretty cool experience. read more

I had my very first facial at the Ruby Room yesterday and it was the most amazing experience! Karma was my esthetician and she had the most sweet personality and positive energy. She made me feel really good about my skin and just wanted to help me improve it. She did a skin analysis and thoroughly explained the whole process before we started. Her movements and techniques were so relaxing and gentle. I had come back today for a massage and ran into Karma who remembered my name and even things we chatted about. Nice personal touch! I will definitely be going back to see Karma as much as I can, love her! read more

I got my first colonic there 2 weeks ago. I was apprehensive since it was my first, and I would meet with a person that didn't have many reviews on yelp. Once I arrived, I quickly found out that my fears were unfounded. Christina is friendly, competent, and gentle. She listened and understood when I needed a break, and she definitely maintained my dignity. She's very knowledgeable, and I would definitely recommend. (SN: I DO want to return...if for nothing else, then to learn her secret. She went from weighing over 200+ pounds to maybe 115LBs soaking wet)... Definitely would recommend read more

I took my sister here for a birthday massage/facial and me too! this is my opinion. Everyone is so warm and friendly and the place is spotless, so clean. Now for my spa experience: it's nice the spa is set in far back on the first floor, they are playing very relaxing, meditative music it's quite, warm, cozy (big sigh) give you refreshments and this is before you have anything done, lol. I had Glady's for my massage and she is wonderful, especially if you have any kinda of injuries, sports etc.!!!! and save the best for last! My facial done by Paul was absolutely amazing, the best I have ever had! He explains what he's doing and the products in detail, Nothing left to say but I left here in a total state of utter bliss!!! My friend works at the Ruby Room as a stylist. After seeing her recently at a friend's Birthday and expressing my current struggle with anxiety, she recommended and explained the healing services they offer at the RR. Always have been a believer in holistic and natural healing, I made an appointment for a 30 minute aura reading (which came with a little education on crystals) and a 30 minute intuitive reading. Both services were lead by Gladys who has a very calming energy. She was sure to tell me a little about herself before we started, which I appreciated. I left with more direction and clarity then I walked in with. I have already recommended this place to friends and family and I'm eager to get back for a second visit! Additionally, it's has a great ambiance and street parking was easy during the week! read more

But now these unbelievable people are telling the travel company we booked through that they SPOKE with us! I met a man in the frigid month of Jan. here in Cleveland. He's just the kind I like, a little crazy, adventurous, a bit off. A few weeks into our relationship he starts telling me about Wendy Beyer of Chicago. Feb., March, April, time passes and Wendy keeps turning up in our conversations. Well, I'm not 20 years old, and I start thinking this guy has a quirk about this whole colonic thing. Or maybe just his butt. I don't like to talk poop. It's infantile. I'd like to think mine comes out in little wrapped sachets, but I am a realist. So a couple of weeks ago he surprises me with a trip to Chicago, his favorite city, and lets me know he's made appointments with Wendy for himself and me. I'm skeptical but he convincing. So off we go to the Ruby Room. I'm first, and Wendy picks up on my attitude-not really into it, but will give it a shot for my man. Wendy is almost ethereal, she's calming, dreamy and explained everything. We have a lovely talk. Next thing I know I'm buns up (oops ,down) and ready to experience this "thing". Without going into the details, WOW. Things went....swimmingly. I feel so good I make another appointment for a few days later. Double WOW! I felt like doing a back flip down the street. I get it! I now know why this is done. Being late in the afternoon, I was one hungry girl. I had the biggest porterhouse steak on the menu at the Grill. And everything came out fine. Tada! I love you Wendy Beyer. And the boyfriend too. And thus, I have popped my Yelp cherry as well. read more

This place is a joke. I don't know what irritates me more- the way they PUSH products on you as if their job depends on whether or not you buy a crystal plus everything else they recommend or that it pretends to be a spiritual salon and spa. The facial was very good and relaxing, ( I will say whatever she used was awesome!) but come on stop with the push behavior in trying to get me to buy this or try this service, that is one of the main reasons for why I will not return. It takes away from your treatment and exposes it for what it really seems to be..more care in making a buck then healing your spirit! I think the services are overpriced and there are far better choices everywhere else in the city. I will say that this place is beautiful, but even for me I feel as if what they want you to believe they are and what they actually are -are 2 completely different things. read more

Yuck, my aura was dirty after I left here. I had to go waaayyy uptown just to get some energy relief. I used to come here right after it opened. I completely dropped my spiritual practice over the last 5 years or so. I got inspired and decided I wanted to buy some new crystals and start mediating again. I called the day before to be sure they still sold loose crystals and that they were upstairs. I walk in the next day and there are three women talking behind the register. I am looking at them to make eye contact to say hello but no one glances my way so I look at some of the knickknacks on the first floor and after a few moments I start heading upstaris. I am practically to the stairs, I can't even see them anymore, and someone says, "HI!" I said, "Hi" back and started heading upstairs. Someone yells, "Can we help you with something? I said, "Do you still sell crystals upstairs." Somone said, "Yes." So I kept heading upstairs. I am not even three steps into the room upstairs before someone comes RUNNING up the stairs. A breathless voice asks if she can help me find anything. "No, I said." Now I am annoyed because NO ONE was trying to help me find anything when I was downstairs, no one was even trying to greet me, but then I head upstairs and people are running and breathless to wait on me? I'm not that naive. So the woman is tapping on some keyboard there on the second floor. I was trying to be at peace and look at crystals but I was getting more and more annoyed. I felt like I was being followed. So I grabbed three. I was planning on getting more but I decided the vibe wasn't worth it. Then I thought, 'you know maybe the register is up here and that is why she came up here because maybe you have to buy this stuff up here.' So before I could get over to the register the woman behind the register calls someone and says, "Victoria (or whatever her name was) I have to go do (I can't remember) can you come up here and hang out?" About that time I make it to the register and I say, "You're not hanging out here on my account are you?" She says' "What? Huh? I don't understand." I said, "Are you up here because I am up here?" I am putting all my stuff on the counter. Instead of answering she says, "We have to go downstairs to check out, this is not a register." "It's not a register?!", I said. "Then what were you doing? I feel like you followed me up here." She said, "we like to have someone on the second floor in case people need help." OK. There are signs all over that say that you are on camera. If they are that paranoid about theft they should keep someone on the second floor, not chase people upstairs and try to act like they are doing something while they are really just watching you. I ended up going to a rock shop near lincoln square. After leaving the rock shop, browsing Merz, and smelling the incense in the store a few doors down, my aura was good. read more

Very Disappointed! Get your confirmations in writing. I made reservations three weeks in advance for my mother who was visiting from New Mexico. I heard about Ruby Room while I was attending an Artist Summit that was focused on wellness and community. As a hair and makeup artist a lot of times I focus on my clients and forget to take care of myself. I made up my mind to try this place out as soon as I got back into town. I got an appointment for the Chakrassage, its a massage that also focuses on helping balance your energy with aroma therapy and essential oils. I was paired up with Annie, and basically she changed my life! She helped me focus my energy and she give an amazing massage. I started going to her back in October and have been going regularly since then. She helped me make a commitment to taking time out for myself, because if you can't take some time for your own wellness, how can you help others. I go every 3 or 4 weeks now, and have seen a huge impact on my life. I am trying things I never tried before and getting other to do the same. What a hidden gem! I stayed here in the winter and even though it was a blizzard, I had an awesome experience. PRICE: We paid close to nothing - less than $100! We booked on a whim, about a week beforehand. It was great for the money we paid - location couldn't have been better. LOCATION: Awesome. You are walking distance from a multitude of bars, and a quick hike from some amazing restaurants. Also across the street from a bakery. There's no reserved parking, but there's plenty around the corner on the streets and it's safe, also. ROOM: Be warned: there is no TV. Sometimes we get too hung up on needing a distraction - I loved that we didn't have one! There was a radio that we listened to, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyways. The temperature was hard to control, but otherwise it was great. We left a fan on to drown out some of the noise (it wasn't that bad but I'm a light sleeper). SHOWER: Yes, I'm reviewing the shower! It was so freaking awesome! When you closed the door, it was like closing off the world: it was airtight so you couldn't hear anything, and it would steam up; very relaxing and pretty awesome. I loved it! AMENITIES: There was a kitchen-type room right next to ours, which was nice for storing leftovers, making coffee, etc. We never saw another person there. CHECK-IN: You walk into a salon to check in. Very different, but it was quick and painless. Overall - incredible find, great location, and awesome price. Love this place! I will definitely return! read more

Ruby Room discontinued their yoga, Yoga View has taken over that space (yay, they're cool). I would like to be more charitable in my rating, after all, the CONCEPT of Ruby Room is great, and it COULD be cool, but it's overpriced, the owner has a total ATTITUDE, their prized "psychic" (Phillip) is a joke (as previously stated, he would much rather talk about himself than anything else), the massage therapist I had there was insensitive to my comfort, and, in summary, Ruby Room just doesn't live up to its spiritual "pretend" vibe in any way. The yoga was the saving grace, without it, there are much better places to go to if you want to buy crystals, etc, buy make up, or receive beauty services. There is nothing ZEN about this place except for what they pretend to be. read more

I just wanted to let you all know that if you were thinking about buying one of RR's intuitive readings or their healing/energy sessions- think. Twice. Then read this review of mine again, put away your wallet, pry the phone from your ear or just keep on walking west on Division to the Gold Star & hop your butt up on a barstool. You'd be more likely to find your divine healing and inspiration injections for the day by imbibing a single shot from either Susan or James than after an hour in the upstairs RR healing 'sanctuary'. I bought my mother a 60 minute session of Intuitive Exploration with one of their newest healers as a Xmas gift. She's had a difficult year and I'd heard how amazing this person was and h/she sounded like someone of the caliber that my mother is used to seeing. Sidenote: she owns a spa herself but also runs her own business in numerology, naming, etc. She's good at what she does (ok yes of course I'm biased) even if it ain't raking in the green quite yet for her. Regardless, just as every shrink-in-training knows that seeing a shrink themselves is considered good business practice and essential for professional development (besides the potential personal benefits), my mother follows this line of belief and visits many spas and has seen an embarrassing amount of psychics, healers, energy gurus, meditational hoohas and intuitive therapists to last more than a lifetime. Not to mention that her house is filled to the literal brim with crystals of every shape and kind. She's a believer and a supporter of these kinds of services is essentially what I'm telling you. But not of RR. I left her at 2:30 and came back promptly an hour later only to find her standing in the downstairs area of RR where the gift shop and hair salon/spa is located, standing by herself with a peeved, forlorn look on her face. She ended up leaving her session early or rather, it just ended early by this 'healer' because h/she had not had anything else to say of use besides repeating the various chakra colors floating about her head. "I see pink- mother chakra" (or something to that effect; I can't remember verbatim) which frankly was a bit obvious as I'd introduced myself to the healer as her daughter but whatever, I guess I didn't buy a psychic consultation but still... The session ultimately devolved into an opportunity for the healer to grill my mother with questions about her spa and if she had any advice to offer on how this healer could open his/her own spa since, "it's a dream of mine to open a place just like this and I really get the sense that your spa is great and, and, I see that you have employees there!" Sigh...For $100/hr, wasn't worth it. Of course sometimes this kind of stuff happens and I know there might be plenty of people out there throwing up their hands and spluttering, Whaddya expect?? And I get and accept that but the awkwardness that ensued afterwards by the front desk RR management staff (I feel that the girls there might be a tad young and inexperienced with unhappy clientele or maybe the training needs to be re-evaluated) could easily have been avoided. I've been in the service business myself for years and because I tend to leave the boat rather than rock it, I'm not a complainer. Even if I don't like something, I'll usually take it just to avoid awkwardness. Not so for the woman who raised me and yet she too is quite the meek complainer as well. My mother expressed her dissatisfaction but wasn't that specific because she didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. The manager pressed her for further information and did so politely but with a real lack of eye contact which made the situation even more awkward. After my mom got more specific and honest (the manager said it would help with healer training if she did), she pointed out that she really felt that we shouldn't have to pay for the full hour as they had finished quite early. I had pre-paid and RR does not refund services after they've been given nor could they charge for a 45 minute session which I would've been happy to pay for. Store credit is the only option and granted, I do appreciate that she gave me the full $100 back but it just feels slightly sour to have to go back and somehow spend $100 on a place that I don't particularly dig that much. I'll be going for a haircut next month as my mom doesn't want to step foot in there again. We'll see how that goes! read more

Wow, I totally thought I had written a review on this place. I have been here several times, not once would I have ever said or even think that the staff was pushy. They offered me suggestions when purchasing crystals, gave me advice, (not any products or services), and given me things to think about. I've never had a massage or haircut, so I really haven't dealt with the first floor and so I can't speak on them. They have actually helped me with some issues I've been having. The staff has always been friendly and understanding. If you are interested in more of a holistic information and services, I would absolutely recommend this place. Created a Yelp account just to write this review. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had. Went in for a lip wax and had my skin torn off. For a $20 lip wax, this is unacceptable. Went in the next morning to complain and the waxer had to gall to blame my skin. (I've been waxing for the past 8 years, so pretty sure that's not it). I asked if there was anything she could do to help and she said "well I can't put lifted skin back". And as I was leaving she told me maybe I just shouldn't wax again. At no point did she apologize or accept responsibility or offer a refund. Awful experience, terrible customer service, and definitely do not recommend. read more

I'm in the midst of a 21 Day Cleanse which encourages a colonic or 2 as an additional supplement to the experience so I decided, why not? I've never had one before, so I was a little nervous, but Ruby Room was fantastic! I was greeted by the owner and led upstairs. The space is really warm and inviting and very comfortable. My colon hydrotherapist, Christina totally rocked. She was very knowledgeable and it was great to compare notes on things like cleansing, yoga and ayurveda. I felt about as home as one could possibly feel in such a potentially awkward circumstance. The whole experience was so "not horrible" that I just scheduled another one for next week. This is the worst salon I've been to in Chicago. Filthy, gross massage tables. Would never go back here, not even for free.

I woke up today and took a look at may hair and realized I needed a cut badly! I didn't make an appointment anywhere because i didn't know that i would have a couple hours free. I did a quick search on yelp and found the Ruby Room. I called at 2pm hoping that they might have a cancellation and could squeeze me in for a quick cut. When i called the salon, they were very courteous and professional, and to my delight they had time to squeeze me in. I arrived at 4:15 and was greeted immediately by a friendly young lady, who offered me a cup of tea. I declined, but was impressed with the effort. I took a look around the salon and it was simply beautiful, serene and very clean. My stylist Randee greeted me with a smile and handshake, she was very warm and accommodating. She was pretty, dark hair, tattoos and very funny. I brought her a photo of the haircut I wanted (I wanted Ashlee Simpson's Hair lol) and she did just that. She first cut my bangs dry so that she could see how my hair moved, and after a washing of my hair she polished off the look and gave me beautiful layers. (P.S. If you want to try bangs, Randee is your girl) I have never had a stylist cut my hair the way I wanted it, but Randee did a great job listening to what I imagined my hair would look like and I could not be happier!! Not only did she do a beautiful job, she was also very fast. You could definitely tell that she was a confident stylist because she seemed very secure when she started to cut, this made me feel very at ease. Randee is a "Master Stylist" at the Ruby Room, and she truly is a Master of her craft. I definitely recommend Ruby Room and especially Randee, the salon is lucky to have her. BEWARE OF THE UPSELL!!! First off, I am giving this place three stars because, truth be told, I got a fabulous haircut and highlights. There is no denying that their stylists are professionals. However, after thinking about things for 24 hours, I feel really taken advantage of. I had heard that the Ruby Room was expensive but decided that I would give them a chance because of the awesome Groupon I bought ($50 for $125 worth of service). After my brief consultation with my stylist (Ailyana??) she immediately started asking me about my familiarity with the Ruby Room's offerings - healing center, spa, overnight rooms. I replied that this was my first experience with the Ruby Room - little did I know, this was just the beginning of a very sly sale's pitch. While waiting for my color to take, Ailyana ushered me to a comfy looking chair surrounded by fun to red magazines, but just as I was about to park my rump she said, "Oh, you know what? you should really go upstairs and check out our healing center. That will be much more enjoyable than just sitting here." Lo and behold, when I went upstairs, I was greeted by a certified healer (really? Is there a degree/certificate for that?) who bombarded me with compliments and expressed a desire to give me an aura reading for $10. Now, most people would have high-tailed it out of there at this point, but I'll be the first to admit - I'm an easy sell. So whatever, I went for the $10 aura reading, mostly out of boredom and a desire to get the healer to shut it. It was complete BS, but I asked for it. Upon returning to the salon, my stylist began to wash my hair, but just as she was about to shampoo, she offered a to apply a hair glaze which supposedly worked miracles. Now, I had told her at least 5 times that this was my first EVER color job and I was a complete novice when it came to fancy salons. She basically used this knowledge as an excuse to bend me over and have her way with me. I agreed to this fabulous glaze, thinking it was just an option offered to everyone, too naive to even ask the cost. Ailyana finished my hair (and it really does look fabulous) and I checked out (after finally asserting myself and passing on the products she insisted I needed). Upon checkout, to my horror, I was told that the shit glaze she applied cost $45!!! On top of that, my aura reading was $10 and there was some shady $15 "additional highlight" charge (their highlight costs range from $55 to $75 and I had already been charged the highest amount of $75- what was this additional $15 BS?) So, all in all, I was charged $70 for services I had never intended on getting walking into the Ruby Room. I feel like a complete fool. I should have never admitted my ignorance when it came to hair care. I was completely taken advantage of - in hindsight, my complete experience was one elaborately orchestrated sales pitch. If you go, you'll probably look better walking out than you looked coming in. Your bank account, on the other hand, will be much worse off. Assert yourself! Just say NO to unnecessary services! For what it's worth, that $45 glaze did shit for my hair - looks and feels the same as it always does after I wash and dry with my Suave products. Know what? I am downgrading my review to two stars...and canceling my pre-booked appointment. Shame on you, Ruby Room! read more

Hotel room is a bit pricey for the area but reasonable when you consider you are in the midst of everything good. Hotel, or just a luxury motel, not sure. One of the rooms has a steam shower. All have hardwood floors. The crystals in the bathroom were a bit odd. So were the neighbors upstairs who flushed rags down the toilet, overflowed the bathroom, and left us waking up to a monsoon rain at 7:30am. The hotel staff was really nice about that and comped us, but it took forever to reach them. Free yoga passes to the yoga studio on the second floor. Rooms are on 3rd and 4th floor and no elevator, so pack lightly. Cool patio out back. Moral of the story, nice place for putting up your family and friends, health nuts and aestheticians. Just get a room on the top floor. read more

Yelp! I'm back! And I wish I had something better to say. I bought the Groupon that others have mentioned, tried to book a massage and was told that there was NO availability for a massage until January. I've had lots of massages and I've never had to wait over a month to book a massage. The staff has obviously been told that they cannot make any exceptions for this special and that's too bad. I'm not particularly interested in their other services, which don't even come close to the price of the groupon. In short, I feel ripped off. If I go for a massage or other service, I will update my review accordingly. read more

I took a yoga class at the Ruby Room and browsed their two stores a bit, and the impressions I got were random and weird. Though the yoga class was alright, the facility seemed shabby and just had a bad energy. It's hard to explain, but I felt like there was ickiness of some kind floating around in the air (whatever they say about "energetically cleansing" the room before every class). Sure enough, I heard the yoga teacher whisper to the receptionist, "Someone was asking me if we ever cleaned the mats because they were getting gross. So could you, like, clean them?" Um, a yoga studio that doesn't clean its mats? That is bad. Also, the classes are $17, which is a fair price if you're getting yoga with a LOT of perks, not so much otherwise. Yes, there was cool live music (singing bowls, etc.) during savasana, but I don't want to pay $17 to feel gross. Also, there was no secure place to leave valuables; people just hung their purses outside the studio where they weren't really in view of the attendant or anyone. Again, my yoga teacher was nice, but for the first time in awhile, I was counting the minutes till class was over. The vibe was just bad. The boutique carries a truly random mix of stuff--where else are you going to find Crocs alongside l'Artisan Parfumeur? Frankly, this whole place was befuddling. read more
