AMATUERS. RUDE. LACK OF TRAINING. We arrived to enjoy a good lunch. Walked in and waited 15 minutes in the front area and nobody noticed or spoke at all to us. No other people were in the front area. - just us standing there. We finally had to walk over to the bar to ask if anyone could help us. - finally after asking - a lady asked if she could help us. We just needed a table for two - looking around there were only about 5 tables with customers currently sitting in them. - But the lady said to go outside and that maybe she could serve us in 20 minutes. It was a ghost town in there and they wanted us to wait out in the snow for 20 minutes. Ridiculous. This restaurant is a prime example of a company giving terrible service and blaming it on COVID. They lost our business lost our respect and are an embarrassment to hard working restaurants in the area. read more

Came here from out of town. We drove buy and thought the building had charm. The outside looks cute and large. We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait about 40 mins. They brought out bread and butter right away but no bread plates. When we asked for bread plates they said they were all out! I've never been to a restaurant where they have been out of plates! Finally, he brought us some bowls for the bread! Drinks were brought in a timely manner. Our dinner our was taken and then silence. The waiter never came back to the table. Finally, after 40 mins our dinner arrived. I asked for more bread. Nothing. Our waiter finally came around to see if we needed anything and again I asked for the bread. Nothing again. My family was done with their meal and I was still waiting for the bread to go with my salad. Our check comes and again I ask for the bread. Maybe 10 mins later the bread arrives. As for the food it could all be warmer. I've never had soup from a restaurant where there isn't steam coming out. This was luck warm at the best. The taste wasn't bad but it would have been better hot. Steak, ribs and chicken were good but again would have been better hot. The broccoli was cold. We went to the steakhouse for our anniversary dinner - boy are we sorry we did that. We found the menu to be quite pricey - more so than the seafood dinner I had wanted. Expect your dinner here to start at about $16 per plate for a burger, sandwich, or salad - if you want a STEAK, it'll set you back at about $25 per plate. I would have been ok with that, had the food been even edible. I ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich with a "Jacketed Baked Potato." Having spent the time waiting for our food discussing who might be employed back in the kitchen dressing baked potatoes to go out, we were surprised when our waitress delivered a plate bearing a baked potato that had been battered and deep fried - to DEATH. Now, I'm a fan of crispy coatings, so I was initially intrigued, even though the coating was a dark brown. I quickly discovered that the potato sat in a puddle of oil, and had been cooked so hard that I couldn't even cut through it with a steak knife. I tried to just eat what I could from the inside - which also had a strange flavor (like old oil). The "sandwich" consisted of a slice of sourdough bread (untoasted) covered by a slice of prime rib that was overcooked, but had the consistency of meat that has been steamed in a crock pot. It was odd, and not pleasant. On top of the meat was a slice of tomato, and Swiss cheese was sort of melted over the top of all. It had a parched appearance, with no kind of moisture of sauce. The sandwich was served with a small ramekin of au jus that had a hint of flavor, beside which sat an ice cream scoop's worth of shredded horseradish. Not horseradish sauce, but just shredded horseradish - a LOT of it. It too was very unappealing. The restaurant itself is in disrepair. As we stepped up the wooden steps outside, they were soft and caved downward measurably. As a grabbed the handrail to steady my step, it gave too. What a dump. The atmosphere is awesome. I grew up in the country and seeing the inside was nostalgic. The peppered bacon sirloin was great, i ordered it medium rare and got a lot more red than pink. For the quick part: never come here! Cold food, very bad service (friendly staff), wrong orders, super late service, plus coward and hack of a manager. For the details, please see below : 1. We had an entire room upstairs for our party--40-ish people. They assigned ONE waiter, and even ordering the drinks we saw lots of problems in our future because it was chaotic and many didn't receive drinks at all, some weren't even entered, others took foreverrr... So... 2. We spoke with the manager and let him know our server needed help, badly, and he said he'd take care of it (pants on fire lie!). After further issues and coming to tell half our appetizers were 86'd, the literally HID from us!!! Never once stopped in to check on us, nor get his dainty hands dirty and assist his staff. Lazy, cowardly, & certainly not a leader. 3. Tons of orders were messed up, mixed up, and some didn't come until almost everyone was done eating. 4. Many of the items tasted bad--they actually boiled asparagus vs. grilling it and it had no seasoning. 5. Almost every side that came out seemed like it came right out of the fridge--they were cold (including all types of fries and broccoli). 6. They charged top dollar for mediocre food and terrible portion ratios--their steak sandwich (like a French dip) came out with like 3 inch thick bread and 1/4 inch of meat in it--you could barely see the meat!!!! Worse than Subway, and this place is gorgeous and high end!!! 7. The breaded shrimp was undercooked to the point that the breading came out gooey and way undercooked. 8. Some food never even showed up--many drinks had to be ordered from the bar, it was bad all around and I wish we had seen these recent reviews before dining there. What a sad shame this place is--sooo gorgeous. But a waste... like they say in Texas, "Big hat, no cattle." Will go to McDonald's before I ever visit that place again. My favorite stake house in Ogden UT. They have a delicious Rib Eye, and great sides. They also have a great assortment of other entrees, such as sea food and sandwiches to name a few, all of which as amazing as their stakes. They bring out complementary sourdough bread with every meal! Their fresh brewed root beer is great! ***They have gluten free bread on hand, as well as a certified gluten free menu!*** The entire establishment is themed as a mountain lodge. The service is amazing. They aren't perfect (they are only human after all), they have made mistakes from time to time, but they will go out of their way to insure you are taken care of and that ever visit is spectacular! Unfortunately they recently changed their menu and they no longer have their great garlic mashed potatoes. They tasted great and were served dry with melted cheese on top. We were in town visiting our son and he had heard this place was good. We tried making reservations but they were full so we decided to do take-out. We ordered 4 meals and they were all horrible---none of the meats were cooked to order. They were either overcooked or way undercooked, the caesar salads had wilted lettuce, the steamed broccoli was raw with a spoonful of butter on top of it that didn't melt, the loaf of bread was hard; needless to say I don't think any of us ate our meals (wish I could get my $100 plus that we spent for take-out). Ruby River is a busy place as it serves meat-and-potatoes fare. It's a better-than-usual chain restaurant steak dinner if you pony up for one of the pricier cuts. And it's on that basis I'm giving it this rating. If you get many of the lower cost (and smaller portioned) beef entrees -- or chicken or pasta -- then this is an average to below average restaurant. The homemade root beer is a distinct flavor high in wintergreen. It's quite a treat served in the frosty mugs. However, it isn't the most suitable flavor compliment with a good steak dinner. (Take it only with appetizer or dessert.) The beers are a little better fit but Roosters makes better Ogden microbrews. Ruby River once had a homemade ginger beer that was quite the treat, but that is gone now. The "jacketed" (battered and fried) baked yams with butter and cinnamon are a lovely accompaniment. I'd like them better if you got a good vegetable served with your meal, too. You can choose a house salad (and these are routinely mundane) which means no good vegetable comes with dinner if you get a potato or yam. That knocks down the meal rating; It's just not as well-balanced a meal as a nice steak meal should be. But it's still better than average if you stick with a good steak cut. That's pretty similar an approach as other popular local steakhouses like The Timber Mine. I've had friendly and acceptable service here many times so I'm inclined to give Ruby River the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars instead of 3 -- given, of course, you buy a better cut of beef. read more

Went here on valentines night with my wife. I had the bacon wrapped sirloin and the wife had sirloin and coconut shrimp. We arrived and were told there would be an hour and a half wait. Not having any where else to go, we waited in the bar. During our wait, had some cheese fries. Not amazing. Got a table faster than expected. My bacon wrapped sirloin was thick, cooked perfectly and well flavored. The wife didn't care for her steak, a little overcooked. My side salad was nice. I wish I could give 3.5 stars. read more

The service was absolutely amazing, so we left a big tip for our server based on the original ticket. The first table we were led to was sitting right under spotlights and they were so bright I asked to move because I'm super sensitive to bright lights in dark rooms. We ordered two medium rare porter house steaks and they were well done. No flavor at all, it was like chewing leather. The rest of the food was good. When we wanted to send it back, they didn't offer to do it again right, they just took the meal off the ticket, so we left still hungry. She doesn't get out much but she was told by a friend that they had the best fish & chips so this is where she wanted to go. She looked forward to this night for a week. When we went to order we were told they were out of fish and chips (and mushrooms). She was totally bummed. But, we were there so she settled for halibut and she said it was very dry. The rest of our meals were just "meh",,I had the peppered salmon and it was OK. Asparagus was dry and cold. I was also not crazy about the baked potato. Used to be 5 Star reviews every time. We sat at the table for over hour and a half. nice staff just incompetent management. Food never came out. Waitress kept apologizing that they had a large party. Manager was busy and never checked on any tables we could see. We finally left after loosing our appetite after eating Tons if peanuts and bread. Also there were two in our party who needed to use the restroom. No toilet paper. On a toilet paper holder that holds 2 huge paper rolls. The kind that NEVER can run out in a busy Airport. No toilet cover paper, garbage can overflowing. We told staff 2 different times. In our hour and a half wait still was not filled. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this at corporate level only. We walked in a couple days ago with a party of 7 for my birthday. We had 4 adults, 2 teens, and a 6 yr. old. We got there at 6:45 and things there seemed pretty quiet. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation, we said no and asked if we needed one. She said, "No." and then excused herself to go check on a table. A minute later another hostess came along and asked if we had been helped and we told her we had and we were just waiting for the other hostess to come back. She proceeded to mark off a table for us on her little desk board and then went to seat a smaller group to a booth and then came back to our group and told us that her manager said they had taken enough "large parties" that night and refused to seat us. She then erased our group number from the assigned table she had planned on placing us at. We just kind of stared at her dumbfounded, like it was some kind of joke. Never before have I EVER been treated so poorly at a restaurant. If there had been a large wait and it was close to closing I could understand. If there had been no tables, I could understand. Our original hostess never returned, ironically my husband and I went to Ruby River for our anniversary a month prior and our original hostess was our waitress. She had our table of two and another group of 8 or so. After the group had left we overheard her talking to another server about how they had only left her an $8 tip. We felt terrible about her working so hard and being left with nothing so my husband left her $100 (he keeps in his wallet for occasions like this..) and told her to have a great day! It was kind of the ultimate kick in the teeth that she was the one who disappeared to go discuss a table with her manager and never returned. In the end, we went over to GoodWood Barbecue across the street and had great food, an amazing waitress with awesomeness management!! Ruby River has great food but the people there suck and that is part of the experience! We will NEVER go to Ruby River Ogden again, and as the hostess so snarkily pointed out, that is our choice. Wow... what a beautiful ages log cabin building, perfect for a steakhouse! We sat down with service from our 18 year old waitress... she was very nice but not experienced. Unfortunately the loaf of sourdough bread was stale... jeez and I love sour dough bread, too bad I figured a bottle of wine would help, after all, red meat and wine, a steakhouse specialty! Super disappointed to find that there are NO GOOD BOTTLES OF WINE available... just cheap wines that sell for under $12 at the local liquor store. Really? Next came the wedge blue cheese salad... I have to admit this was very delicious! Oh no... the rib eye tasted like they grilled a piece prime rib, not a fresh piece of rib eye grilled and caramelized like it should be. This restaurants on the verge of being really great but failed miserably. Just a few changes and it could really be the best! But instead I have to give it 2 stars. This was our third visit here. We love it more each time. If I could give bonus stars, I would. This time around I got a 6 ounce sirloin with giant coconut shrimp and a jacketed potato. I loved every single bite. That steak I've had here each time has been incredible. I had them cook it medium and it melted in my mouth. The coconut shrimp was massive enough you could appropriately refer them as "shrimp steaks." Boy, did I love those shrimp steaks! The orange marmalade dip was very sweet and thin, so you don't need much. My husband had the smothered chicken. It had bacon Swiss honey mustard on a chicken breast. He loved it and would get it again. He had crispy hit fries to go with it. We got our daughter the Alfredo pasta off the kids menu. It was the best darn alfredo I had ever had. I was excited when she didn't want it because it meant leftovers at 1AM. Not good, I know...but oh so good. The most pleasant part of our experience was our waitress. Her name was Seanna. I really really hope I saw her name tag correctly because this girl deserves major recognition. She was the sweetest girl I had ever met, anywhere. The kindess in her eyes makes me seriously want to cry when I think of her face. Weird I know, but holy cow, this girl is something so special. She was genuine and kind. She looked at you in the eyes when you were talking. We were chatting and got talking about some personal issues we both struggle with. She said something that really REALLY helped me out. What a gem she is. I hope the best for her! I hope to see her again sometime. I hope her employers treat her how she treated my family. Ruby River rocks! We WILL be back over and over. read more

After a day of driving cross country we were looking forward to a good meal. They offered for us to "take it home and heat it there". I will start with the bad: -We sat for a very long time before the waitress acknowledged us ( only three tables were active, us included with ample waiters/waitresses). -The calamari was listed as lightly battered, but half the plate was batter. -Two of the on tap beers were out, so we had to settle with a mediocre third choice. -Ordered the steak and was told it was out after placing the order and waiting until nearly everyone else's food came out. -Ordered a different well done steak and it came out medium rare at best. I ordered a 12oz New York Steak cooked medium rare. The steak was 1/4" thick, full of fat and there was hardly any pink to it. I'm not sure how they are cutting their steaks, but a 12oz New York should have been thick, juicy, and fairly lean. Won't be back! read more

Don't get the Prime Rib "sandwich"!!! Seriously! The longer I looked at it the funnier, or sadder, this meal looked. A thin slice of bread, an inch and a half slab of over done fatty, unseasoned "prime" rib, two rounds of raw tomato slapped on top and Swiss cheese put under a broiler long enough to make the top of the cheese look melted..... I tried it, it was inedible. Plus, there was no mention of this being an open face sandwich. They comped the meal, and it wasn't even worth eating for free. Oh!!! And the brought it with a vat of fresh shaved horse radish!! Why?!? A little horse radish goes a long way people! Are you trying to kill someone? My meal came out 5-10 minutes after everyone else's meal and it was by far the easiest to prepare. And it came out without the side of fries... My husband found an arm hair on his plate, my dads prime rib was no where near medium rare. The other 4 meals were okay and they had no complaints. We won't be back though:/ read more

So I went to Ruby River this evening! This place has always been one of my favorite places, and actually still is. The food was awesome; however, there was a horrible child running around the restaurant! Not only running, but doing tumbling on the floor and very disruptive!! He was following staff into the kitchen and acting like a ninja. Staff kept yelling at him to stop running, but did nothing but yell at him. I'm not sure why the workers are bringing their kids. Find a sitter already. Not everyone lives kids running around the restaurant!! And NO MASK!! Ugh!! read more

Appetizers, blooming onion, cheesy fries, chicken tenders were good. My salad was good. Entrees however we're not good. Husband ordered chicken/ribs combo. Chicken was dry and overcooked, ribs were ok, weirdly dry on one side but ok underneath. I ordered a halibut dish (I know it's a STEAK house but don't care for steak, ). it seemed the fish was microwaved-dry, bland tasteless. It was served with asparagus, which was thin spears, with brown-yellow stems. I sent it back. My family and I like the food at Ruby River. It must be a new thing, but you can't order drinks from the bar while you're waiting for a table anymore unless you are ordering food at the bar. Ummm, we are going to eat once our table is ready and the drinks will go on our bill. The restaurant could lose money on this, especially with a 50 minute wait time. read more
