Don't normally do this being a business owner and all, but ya gotta speak up from time to time. So we go out for a relaxing birthday dinner expecting an inviting atmosphere at this "Best of Utah" multiple award winner and it was anything but. During the hottest time of the day, they seat our party of 5 on the west side of the dining room and they forgot to mention when we made our reservation that the air conditioner is broke. We tried to grin and bear it, but that's when it got even hotter. The server had use of only one hand, wrote our order down so he wouldn't forget, we had to repeatedly ask for cool water, and he forgot to put in our salad orders that come with the entree mind you. When my wife asked about the air not working and saying we are all sitting hear sweating, you think someone would try to do something, right? Nope! Instead, we had another server who overheard her yell from across the room, "Give her a free meal, she is uncomforatble!" The so called crisis negotiator, oh, I mean other server, then comes over and tells us that he has been working in it all day, as if we were to shut up and deal with it cause he has to. So, we thought we would be clever and ask him why they don't tell people making a reservation that the air is out to which he replies, "if we told all the customers the air was out and that they might be a 'little uncomfortable' if they come, nobody would show up." Two servers, and two employees behind the bar, one who may have just wanted the title of manger, now know there is a problem and they just stood there! No attempt to find a fan or, here's an idea, move us to the somewhat cooler east side. Nope! My wife then cut into the driest, blandest chicken dish she ever had and I told her to lean forward and drip sweat onto it because it will season it and help make it moist! Ha! We just had enough at that point and wanted to leave so we did...and then our side salads came. No joke! We hope others fair better but go cautiously if you do decide to plan your evening. read more

Went here for lunch last week with some coworkers. My first time but they seemed to think service was slow. Waiter was on top of our drinks and no one came close to running out. I ordered a my strip and although it tasted great was a little over cooked for medium. Sides were good. Everyone was happy with their orders and I got some ideas to try next time. When did they go downhill? My husband and I just ordered delivery through DoorDash and usually order fish and fries. This time the fries were drenched in nasty spices that imitate bad nachos. Why add? They were good just the way they used to be. My husband got a salad with his and it was just the butts and cores of the lettuce. Really sad. Haven't been here in a while and decided to come for my birthday this week. We got sat in an empty house on the other side of the sink disposal that went off every 5 minutes. The waitress was nice but never around and when we told her it was my birthday she didn't say anything. Steak was okay, cold. Fries came out cold. Was just a disappointment altogether. I ordered the $30 porterhouse expecting a $30 porterhouse. What was served was a steak that was less then 1/2" thick! It's like they took the normal porterhouse steak and decided to slice them into halves so they can sell more steaks at the same cost. Horrible experience- we drove all the way to riverdale road to wait an hour for a cold filet with soggy limp bacon. It was inedible, the sides were cold. I have visited Ruby River a few times over the past couple of years and have had good things to say about e experience each time. Last night ,however, that changed completely. I ordered the 12 oz ribeye. Over 1/2 of the cut was fat.Not marbling-fat... I removed the fat and informed the waiter of my disappoint but told him Iwould eat it regardless. He shortly returned after speaking with the manager and said there will e a 15% discount on steak.After 2 bites. I requested to see the manager because it was filled with gristle and was basically inedible. I kindly told the manager that the cut was bad and I would not e eating it and I'd like the cost removed from the bill. She refused to do so claiming at I ad already eaten over 1/2 of it.(I d taken 2 bites and had to spit1 of them cause it was too tough to chew.) She actually argued the matter with me. Extremely unprofessional and due to her actions I will not return to Ruby River in Riverdale, UT.. as our party was leaving, there was a gentleman across the isle from our table experiencing the same thing with the same cut of meat.As stated .I have had good experiences there in the past but the humiliation brought on by the managers attitude and terrible customer service, I won't return and recommend you look for somewhere else to eat. Visiting family someone recommended Ruby, but I should have checked Yelp. In my opinion, it just was not good. At least two of our steaks were way overcooked. I ordered 8oz Steak Oscar med rare at it came out well done, no pink. I can't say if the steak would have been good had it not been so badly overcooked. The crab tasted like it came out of a can. The bearnaise sauce was the worst I've ever had, it was inconsistent, looked greasy and had very little flavor. Caesar salad was like something you would get at Dennys. Asparagus was tough. One pretty good dish was the artichoke dip. Prices are good, but why bother with a steak house that can't cook a steak? read more

First time I've been turned away from a restaurant. Came in at 3:30pm, place was empty and they couldn't accommodate a party of 10. We said it was fine to split into two parties of 10, "no sorry we can't do that, not enough servers." Seriously? The hostess went to go ask a manager or something. We waited a few minutes and decided to go to Texas Roadhouse. We waited a few minutes and they sat us pretty quickly. Learned my lesson. Don't go to Ruby River. 3.5 stars. Ruby River is hit and miss. Some things on the menu are good (prime rib, barbecue ribs, buffalo wings), and other items are not good (filet mignon, any fish entrees). Unfortunately, the good items aren't always good either. Sometimes the prime rib is tough or full of fat. Sometimes the wings are cold and dry. When they are ON it's a great night out - some place I would go for a special occasion (and have before). But when they are OFF it's a costly disappointment that makes you wonder if you remembered it correctly the last time. I will probably go again because the best prime rib I've ever had was at Ruby River - but then again, that could just be the nostalgia talking. read more

This is one of those nightmare steak houses you unfortunately read about where the water comes out with little floaty's and the steaks come out so miss shaped that even the waiters don't know what cut it is, that if the steak actually comes out. Perhaps you will order the fillet and mid cut discover it falls apart like compressed ground hamburger and has a really fun chewiness to it. After what started out roughly -- the doors to inside are poorly marked and the layout is frankly odd -- we made out way inside and were seated. The server then proceeded to card both of my business lunch guests, despite all of us being at least double the drinking age minimum (one was probably closer to triple). This would normally result in an immediate deduction for embarrassing me, but fortunately, they chose the spot. Still...extremely tacky choice on her part, when all of us were obviously of age and it made things very awkward. She claimed this was the restaurant policy and if so, they should immediately revisit this. It's not like some kid is going to a relatively expensive place like this and try to tag drinks 1 pint of beer at a time and the downside can be no repeat business. Anyway, that aside, this things started off in a hole, both of which could somewhat easily have been avoided. From there, we ordered the calamari, which was quite good and crispy. Dipping sauces could have been better, though. The iced tea I had was also pretty decent, though the mug was filled to the top with ice prior to any tea going in. It was not good enough that it did not need sugar, however, they had In The Raw packets, so good there. For the lunch, we had the prime rib sandwiches. This place has a somewhat limited lunch menu, consisting mainly of sandwiches, though there are some salads and pasta dishes also. I went with the jacketed sweet potato, which is the only side worth having, in my view. All of the food was decent, though I could have used the prime rib being closer to medium and slicked a lot thinner than the slab that was placed on my somewhat burnt toast. If I was rating the food alone, it would have been a 3 star rating and ended there. One odd thing is that the lunch menu is definitely portioned down, but the desserts aren't, so if you order one, know you're getting a full-on regular dessert and Ruby River likes to do them huge. I had samples of what was ordered and thought they both were ok, but I typically don't order dessert and neither is inclined to make me change my mind. Why this gets a 4 is the server (I won't name wait staff in reviews, but her initial starts with "M.") did an excellent job redeeming herself and turned in one of the best performances after the weirdness of the whole carding thing. I wouldn't say she was the best wait staff I've ever had -- the best would not have done such a thing at all -- but her timing was impeccable and she did an excellent job of knowing when to stay away. She left me a carafe of iced tea on the table, but I never touched it, as she always made sure to return when my glass was lowering and move it the 6 inches from where she left it on the table to my glass and filled it for me. The extra star is for her digging this place out of the hole they started in and for doing such a stellar job. Still, when lunches start hovering up with this kind of cost, it makes it difficult to choose this as any kind of spot that I would show up to with any regularity and I'm frankly not sure I would want to go through all that weirdness again, making up for it or not. I brought my family and out of town family to this place and almost everyone complained that the food was cold including me. I ordered the fish and chips and the fries were cold and so was my side dish steamed broccoli. My dad said his jacketed potato was cold. Jeez I expected more from this place. It's too bad the quality has gone down hill here. At Goodwood Barbecue their policy is that the food is served immediately once off the grill. Steak quality declined in a hurry since I've been here over 8 months ago.. What used to be succulent prime rib that was so tender you could literally eat without teeth is now equivalent in texture to jack links beef jerky only not dried..I really can't think of a better way of explaining the thick ropes of muscles that bonded together like that. Did like the new steak avocado egg rolls however. Half rack still decent though I'm inclined to think the ribs are cooked elsewhere and warmed on-site. I guess if it works for good wood and others why not ruby river. Used to really like this establishment and went at least monthly, now not so much. The food in General is okay. My top sirloin steak was a bit salty, but the mashed potatoes were really good! The service is slow, considering it wasn't that busy. I am going to say the best thing about the this place is the appetizers (especially the Bill Colby Wings) and the bread pudding (if you like bread pudding). read more

This is by far the worse steakhouse I've been to in Utah. We ordered our steaks medium well and they came out rare. My partner forced her prime rib down, smothering it in whatever she could. I returned my steak 3 times and it still wasn't right, I finally decided to just smoother it in A1 sauce and get it down. I've visited once at this location. The steak dinner with baked potato tasted great. They also serve fresh bread as you're waiting on the meal. It's definitely a traditional American style steak house with country music playing over their sound system. My one beef was that the bartender was playing his own brand of street music on a boom box. I had to ask the server to tell him to turn it down and he did but you could still hear the music. The filet mignon was good... Although the "wrapped in bacon" was a tiny piece about 1 inch long on my plate... The asparagus was half cooked, mashed potatoes were cold and half of our party was served a good 7 minutes after the first half. The busser removed plates before asking if anyone wanted to take anything home... One steak had 3 bites taken off of it, and another was half eaten, those people weren't in their seats at the time so no one noticed until it was too late. I've eaten here a couple times and both times the meat (steak or chicken) was forgettable..but the potato was AMAZING! I'm not a fan of baked potatoes..some would say I loath them but they dip the whole potato in some sort of batter and deep fry it and it's so good!
