We started with a Arugula salad old fashioned but what you would expect, fantastic. We then had the pepperoni pizza. It is very thin but absolutely delicious. The pizza was exceptional. We celebrated our Anniversary and the staff was sweet and accommodating. If you like pizza get a reservation. I was blown away in how good it was. My friend from out-of-town loves Rubirosa, so she wanted to come here again when she was visiting for the weekend. We had a lunch reservation on a Sunday for a group of five, and we ordered the rubirosa salad, garlic knots, tie dye pizza, and a half vodka half arugula pizza to share. I'm not a big salad person, but the rubirosa salad was actually delicious! The garlic knots were really good too. As for the pizza, I was a little disappointed in the tie dye pizza. It's so hyped so I had really high expectations. My friend said that it tasted better when she had it before because it usually has more vodka sauce. You can see in the picture that our pizza had like no vodka sauce on it. The plain vodka sauce pizza was so good though, so more vodka sauce on the tie dye pizza would have really made it. Was super looking forward to this spot but left a bit disappointed. We were able to get a walk-in shared table (bless) and were sat in the middle room by the kitchen. It was super loud and hectic, but a table nonetheless. Our server seemed like he hated his job and had a bit of an attitude at us not knowing what we wanted immediately, especially when I explained my allergies and confirmed what I could safely eat. Like I get it's more energy for you to deal with but trust me, I wish I didn't have them either. Especially as a restaurant that kind of markets itself as a good option for dietary restrictions, you'd think you wouldn't be given so much ire for having them. He also was hard to track down and left halfway through our dinner without a word as shifts changed but then we had no idea who to flag down for anything. I ended up choosing the GF DF Cavatelli rather than ragu or pizza. It was so disappointing and plain. Barely any kind of oil or sauce on it. It was basically just plain pasta with steamed veg and chunks of dry sausage. Totally should have went with ragu or pizza. My friend who is also GF DF got the hot honey pie pizza and graciously shared some--it was delicious! Definitely go that route instead. The drinks were also good, I got the Daisy cocktail and it was delicious. My friend ordered a different one by accident and didn't like it, and the server did offer her the right one free of charge. I came here for my 30th birthday dinner with my husband and my sister. We got sat in the back room near the ovens. That room is a health hazard, and they should not be able to sit guests there. It was extremely hot. It had to be at least 85 degrees, probably hotter. Everyone who was sat in that room was drenched in sweat - I, for example, had sweat droplets dripping down my back the entire dinner. When they brought new customers to sit back there, several asked to be relocated. After we got our food, we asked for the check and wanted to leave immediately. It's a shame because we would've ordered more food and drinks. On our way out, we spoke to the manager who said it was always like that. Disgusting. I've been to Rubirosa once before when I wasn't on a gf diet and the food was great then and now. On to the review: I'm not being dramatic when I say I haven't had a mozzarella stick in years, especially one with a cheese pull! The mozzarella was ooey gooey goodness, although I wish the breading used for it was slightly more seasoned. For the pizza, I opted for the classic half pepperoni and half tie die and it was so yummy. The crust was nice and crunchy and the sauce is so robust. I went during the middle of the week in the middle of the day and there was ample seating available. The hostess was very nice and offered me a gluten free menu immediately. Finally got a reservation here for dinner last night after years of trying! The interior of the restaurant is reminiscent of a classic Italian NY joint which I loved! We were seated in the very back of the restaurant, and it was soooo hot back there. My friend told me about this place so I wanted to check it out because she said it was one of her favorite pizza spots in New York. After 15 minutes of waiting, I walked up to the manager, my daughter still crying, kindly asked for a reservation for the next day. It took every ounce of me not to cuss him out. This was ABSURD. SO we got a lunch reservation for the next day. But here's the kicker!!!! They use a text messaging system to let you know of your reservation. And guess what? I have been to Rubirosa once many years ago and remember really enjoying it. I went again a few weeks ago and am happy to report that it's still a great place for pizza in the city. The tie dye pizza is worth all of the hype. It features a super thin crust and has vodka sauce and tomato sauce topped with fresh mozzarella and the signature pesto swirl. It really does taste as good as it looks. And the best part is that it that does not make you feel gross even after eating 3 slices. I also got to try the octopus appetizer which was good but way too overpriced. I did enjoy the Rubirosa salad which was a nice counterpoint to the heavier dishes. Service is fine. It can be a bit rushed but they're super busy so it's understandable. I liked the casual decor with a classic old school NYC feel that will never get old. A group of 10 of us went to Rubirosa for a work function. We arrived and were seated at an excellent table in the rear part of the restaurant. The interior was well laid out with a variety of decorations. It is a great atmosphere and walking by the other patrons and looking and smelling all the food ensured that this would be a great experience. But I knew I had to get that famous tie-dye pizza that everyone raved about. I got a small and added some meat toppings (pepperoni and sausage) and was drooling in anticipation of my pizza arriving. I kept watching others get their pizza and I got a bit anxious, but finally, my pizza arrived! They did forget the pesto sauce which I inquired about but they quickly fixed that. Then it was time to dig in. And man, this pizza was GOOD. Probably one of the best pizzas I've had. It was just so perfect. The tomato sauce was rich and deep. The crust was crispy. I can finally take this restaurant off of my bucket list of places to eat at in NYC. I'm a resident of NYC and I never ate here before bc of the long line and couldn't get reservations. My friend who lives in the area has never eaten here too. I must admit it is very touristy. I came by myself as I was in the vicinity and it was early enough so they asked if I wanted a table for one or to sit at the bar. I of course opted for the table as I had a large shopping bag with me. The place isn't that large and only one bathroom for everyone which is a bit ridiculous. I'm not sure why there is such a hype for their pizza. I asked the server if I can get a slice or two instead of ordering the entire pie. She said to me, that there are other pizzerias nearby that serve slices which I can go to instead if I'd like. Love love love Rubirosa - might be my favorite pizza in NYC! I love their large size pizzas, and that they offer the option to have half / half of different toppings so everyone can share more slices of pizza. I love their vodka pasta, supreme, and the tie dye pesto. Every flavor we've tried has been delicious, and I love how crispy and thin the crust is. I've had this on delivery a few times too and it's always been great even after being delivered and not too oily. Downside was long wait for a table (and bathroom). But had great pizza (we got tie dye and supreme for 5 people) and wonderful staff! All time fave. Every time I come to NY I stop by. This time was lucky enough to get a table for 6 for my kids and fam on a weekday over lunch. It's all about the flavor, the sauce. Delicious.
