Hot Papi
Anne F.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: be spontaneous! My husband and I came here on a whim after seeing this restaurant across the street as we were brunching at a popular French establishment. We had saved this location for later, but after a few hours of wandering around the area, eventually finding ourselves in Soho, we decided to return and try Emmett's, spurred on by the images of its famed Hot Papi pie. What a great decision that was. Emmett's has propelled itself to my top three favorite pizza spots. We ordered the Hot Papi, and it was everything a pizza ought to be: greasy, flavorful, crisp oil pooling within the cups of pepperoni. I'm especially a sucker for that cream sauce drizzled on top. We scarfed it down quickly, barely leaving time to breathe. It was a beautiful work of art, that pie.

Burrata and Prosciutto Plate

Grabbed dinner at Emmets on Grove and had an amazing time. Definitely a fun vibe for a group dinner or a date night. Our server was very nice and attentive. We started off with the pigs in a blanket, Caesar salad, and the burrata and prosciutto. The pigs in a blanket were good, not great. The Caesar salad was definitely shareable and very good. The burrata was my favorite starter, it was amazing! For mains, we shared the spicy vodka pasta and the Mona Lisa. The pasta had a great bite to it and the pizza was super good. I really enjoyed our experience at Emmets on Grove and would love to return!

Table seating

Went to this place on a whim. It was one of my list of places to try. I booked a reservation for 10pm. They welcome walk-ins so I went to test my luck at 7pm. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a walk-in table but totally understandable. Thankfully I still had my 10pm reservation .This is a hot spot so I would say definitely make a reservation if you want a table. The walk-ins seem like it's only for the bar portion. Food was great. I loved everything I ordered. I hate thin crust pizza but I was greatly surprised by it. Was more than enough to share. Seating was a little tight for my liking but what place in the city isn't. Everything was great except for the limited seating.

Half hot girl / half Mona Lisa

We went half and half with the Mona Lisa and Hot Girl. I'm still thinking about this pizza days later. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, ambiance is top notch - we will absolutely be back on our next visit.

Overall an interesting pizza joint with uniquely thin crust pizza although the ingredients could stand out a bit more in terms of flavor. The pizza with a hot honey was a hit for the table, credit to the jalapeños on it too. Dessert was surprisingly the highlight for me and I really enjoyed the thick salted chocolate cake with a nice sweetness that wasn't overly powerful balanced with the salt. I did wish that the seating was better spaced in between tables otherwise could be a nice casual spot.

The hostess, Hannah, was fantastic and made our whole visit something beyond our expectations. She greeted us warmly as we all walked in and made sure our table was ready, since we already had a reservation. She made sure our server was also attentive and came right to our table. She is the coolest hostess I've ever met. We had two servers who were also both truly attentive, friendly, prompt, and accurate. The pacing of the meal was relaxed, not rushed, and not delayed. The service and staff here make the experience "next level." We ordered the pigs in a blanket, Greek salad, and meatballs for appetizers. Each was outstanding and perfect for sharing. The pigs in a blanket are larger than what you would expect and the wrap was flaky and seeded. Dipped in the mustard, it was better than any wedding I've ever attended (and that's no joke as they are always the first thing to deplete at weddings for a good reason). The meatballs were an unexpected hit. They were very well cooked, but not dry at all. The sauce was flavorful and not overwhelming, so the meatball itself was the focus of the bite. The Greek salad didn't actually include salad, which was perfect, so the fresh tomato, the ideal "baby bear" feta - not too hard, not too soft, the onion, and the cucumber were the focus. The dressing was lightly applied so as to not be overwhelming. The pizza came out before the pasta. The pizza is Chicago-style, so it is thin crust and cut into single-bite squares, and excellent for sharing. The "Hot girl" pizza was the hit. I can tolerate a lot of spice, and this was spicy. I loved it. Pepperoni, jalapeño, and Mike's Hot Honey. It was legit. The other half was Mona Lisa, which was nice, but not in the class of "Hot Girl." The pappardelle bolognese had the right amount of sauce and was prepared perfectly al dente. The noodles were super long and it was like a pasta clown car when you try to serve it. The noodle just kept on coming and eventually had to be cut. The Cacio e Pepe also was a hit with the group, but not my thing. It's more like an "al fredo." The surprise at the end was the key lime pie which had a very strong lime flavor and ridiculously crumbly and chewy crust, topped with a light whipped cream that didn't drown the pie like some do. The pie center had a perfect texture that was creamy and thick, but not viscous at all. The atmosphere was very trendy with great art strewn throughout and 20th century memorabilia also scattered around, like an old 7-up sign or the rotating Schlitz globe. The Globe is apropos as it is mounted outside the restrooms - just in case you need to take a "Schlitz," I guess. There is great natural light in the rear dining room from a skylight and a display of wine racks on the wall. The bar had a well-curated selection for all levels of palates. I had an IPA on tap with the meal and it was a perfect pairing with the spicy pizza. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants now, between the service, the ambiance, and the food, Emmet's on Grove is a "must-see" if you're anywhere in NYC.

Folks this spot is an ABSOLUTE TREAT in the West Village. Crispy bar pizza that will blow your socks off, you'll never want a regular NY slice again. Burger unreal, great martinis. Friendly and hospitable staff. Oh and the vibes, picture this: Your going to a friends wood paneled basement in 2004, going to have a fun sleep over, watch some movies, maybe a little spin the bottle??? You don't know what to expect but the options are limitless and delightfully delectable. Give it a shot!

Hot Girl Pizza Hot Papi Pizza

Really awesome American and Italian cuisine here! They're known for their burgers and pizza and of course we went for the half and half hot girl and hot papi pizza. Both were so delicious - I love a tavern cut, thin slice pizza. We also ordered vodka rigatoni which was a smaller portion and a little too cheesy for my taste but still so good. Good service but it's kinda loud in the restaurant so I would takeout next time!

Key lime cheesecake on the house. Turned out to be a special moment for us. Thank you for the experience.

I promised myself I wouldn't forget to review our most recent visit. Im from St. Louis! Understand this....we go to New York FOR this pizza. FOR this place. (The atmosphere is superb) We just find things to do based AROUND our time at Emmett's on the Grove. This last trip up, we could barely contain ourselves while on our way. Hungry bc we won't eat much the day of our reservations here. And bringing more first timers with us so they can join in our obsession. But-this last time-upon showing up for our online reservations, the curtains were closed and the sign read "closed for private event". Listen, we are absolutely ridiculous people for this pizza...... so our months of countdown and day of preparation...seemed to be ending in a devastatingly hangry "end of world type" of meltdown" Instead, I slipped into the door and tried so seem like a sane person. Long story short (lol), they bent over backwards to accommodate us AND OTHERS after the event. They really appreciated how far we came for the pizza and made sure our entire experience that night was special. We noticed every single effort. We were able to scratch that Emmett's "Hot Papi" pizza itch AND make fans of our friends who often frequent NY together. Thank you to the entire team for allowing us to be such silly fans. Emmitt's is very special to us and we are already counting down until next time.

Some of my favorite pizza in the city! Not traditional NY style but thin, crispy crust with great toppings. Staff is friendly and atmosphere is fun. Other food is good but go for the pizza.

John's on Bleeker line was as usual stupidly long. Took a walk a walk down the block to this place where we discovered an even more delicious pizza. We ordered the half pepperoni and cheese which arrived tavern style with one of the best Caesar salads I've had. Pizza was even better than John's and the staff and location were great. Wish we ordered another pizza.

50th Birthday Celebration! Hostess Paula made it extra special for us with her exceptional service!!!

Exceptional experience at Emmett's from the moment we stepped in to the restaurant, in large part because of Paula, one of the hostesses. The service and food was exceptional, but Paula made it xtra special for us in many ways. I highly recommend Emmett's on Grove!!! And thank you Paula for the wonderful service and experience you gave us :-).

I'm a big fan of Emmett's on MacDougal and was excited to visit Emmett's new restaurant! The vibe here is totally different and the food is different too. The ambiance is definitely curated and it works. On a Friday and Saturday night, this is a place to see and be seen. It's fun! You may find it too loud. I did. Also, I had a 9:30pm dinner reservation and wasn't seated until closer to 10pm. Also, we were seated right by the bar, and when I asked about being seated in the dining room, I was told I'd have to wait another hour. I wasn't amused. Ordered: Caesar salad- $14- it was a really nice size and was delicious! Two of us shared it. I'd definitely order this again. Chicken Milanese- $26- this was really good! It has a really large arugula salad and was fresh and great. The chicken was crisp and not too greasy. Chicken parm- $28- I was pleased that this came with pasta. The pasta was too al dente for my liking. The chicken was good. Not my all time favorite, but tasty. I was full and didn't have room for dessert regrettably. Overall, Emmett's on Grove is a nice addition to the neighborhood! Will I be back? Potentially, but I have to say, the original Emmett's is more my speed.

The arancini was a standout: perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy inside, and served with a rich, delicious sauce that tied it all together. We ended on the tiramisu, which was absolutely worth saving room. It was light, flavorful, and a perfect finish to the meal. What really elevated the experience, though, was the staff. Everyone was genuinely kind and helpful--especially notable for New York--and it made the whole evening feel relaxed and welcoming. A small heads-up: it's a bit tricky to find, so give yourself extra time. That said, the hidden, underground subway setting is part of the charm and makes the whole experience feel unique. I'd love to see more restaurants creatively use these kinds of spaces in the future.

It is located right in the hallway of a subway entrance, next to a bar and across from a coffee shop, and it somehow manages to feel like a cozy, sit-down restaurant right in the middle of NYC. Don't let the odd location fool you, the food here is outstanding. The Neapolitan and Sicilian-style pizzas are both exceptional, with rich, well-balanced flavors and perfectly executed crusts. Every bite tastes high quality. Also, don't skip the house-made lemonade! The experience is even better because of the incredibly friendly and attentive staff. They were all so kind to so many people. From offering to keep leftovers in the fridge until a customer was done at their broadway show, to offering a scone to a young child while he and his father waited for their pizza to be done, it was more than just flipping a table and onto the next tip, it was humanity at its best. Be sure to give See No Evil Pizza a try. You certainly will want to come back again for more.
