Let me start by saying how excited we were to try this restaurant for a birthday celebration. We love trying new places every so often but were quickly sorry we did this time. It was not at all what we had hoped it would be. Upon check in-We needed to wait in the Hotel area for them to call us. While the food wasn't bad..the server was nice -the other staff kept rushing us or taking away our plates numerous times while we still had some food left on our plates. There were a few of us dining and they did it to us numerous times each as we kept objecting that we were not finished yet. We had the focaccia and ricotta but were very disappointed with the tiny side of ricotta and honey for I believe an additional $7 add on. As I love bolognese pasta it wasn't anything special and I tasted the ragu or duck pasta which had much more flavor to it. We ordered some other items for apps and entrees too. While we were hoping for a fun, enjoyable birthday celebration we must have had our apps and entrees in less than 45 mins and out the door -**being extremely rushed. *** While we would have appreciated attentive service the staff constantly did not stop taking many times our plates with food left, silverware, and items off our table. We hadn't even finished all our apps as they took plates and said your entrees are here. Being a NY'er we are used to fast service but it did not feel like a nice birthday dinner celebration where we each of us-constantly had to ask them to stop taking plates before we were done numerous times. On a side note: the place was pretty, small, and the food ok- but extremely disappointing when there are so many restaurants in NYC where they do not rush especially on a birthday celebration. I have been dreaming of this place for years!!! I follow this foodie couple on social media that is from the Brooklyn area and they come here often. I also follow this restaurant on social media because I love Italian food and can literally feel myself drooling every single time they post something. I know just by looking at the pictures/videos that this place is authentic and delicious! Finally I got my reservations booked on my 4th visit to NYC. It's such a small intimate place that you can't come in bigger groups than 3 for some reason. Luckily my vacay friends group total first night was only 3 of us. Second night was 5 so I couldn't reserve for a Saturday. Of course 1st thing I wanted was the dreamy octopus carpaccio. Oh my god I was in heaven and just so happy. We ordered the Warm Rosemary Focaccia Taleggio Butter and wow just wow. The bread and butter was so fresh melts in your mouth so delicious! We then had some Roasted Oysters Crab Fat Butter, Chili Vinegar, Lemon - yummmy!!! Pasta orders: we ordered Pappardelle Venetian Duck Ragu, Shaved Foie Gras but they ran out of the duck so we replaced it with mushrooms, Scialatielli Manilla Clams, Sour Beer, Chili-personally I didn't care for this dish I would skip it next time. Last main course we got the Barbequed Pork Chop Long Hot Pepper Agrodolce, Dripping Potatoes, Fennel Pollen - this was hearty but so juicy and tender cooked perfect. I did tell our server that the trip was for both of my friends birthday. We got one cake I had to order another one. So normally at most or all other restaurants bday cake (at least one) would be complimentary right? Well here, no. I paid for both cakes which is fine but not nice. I also want to mention yes the food here is seriously so amazing and I'm so sad I couldn't order everything on the menu....but I have to say the service not so friendly. I feel like it was a struggle to get him to come to our table and he was not so helpful. I'm sure it was super busy he might not have been having a nice night. WOW what a fabulous and perfect meal. We got a day-of reservation here very last minute and I'm so glad we went. Everything was delicious and the service was great. The hostesses were very kind and cared about us getting seated on time. The inside was cozy and we were tucked in a little alcove. I had an amazing dirty martini to drink, and it was worth the high price. To start, we got the focaccia with taleggio butter, octopus carpaccio, and artichokes. I'm not a huge fan of artichokes normally but these were delicious. Some of the focaccia pieces were a little hard on the ends but the middle parts were soft and yummy. Octopus was so unique and fresh. To eat, my boyfriend got the garlic stuffed chicken and I got the squid ink crab pasta. This pasta was genuinely one of the best dishes I've had in the city. So much crab and the sauce was perfect. You have to get this! For dessert we had the delicious apple olive oil cake. Ironic the last review is a 1 star & it's followed by my 5 stars. Sorry to that Yelper but we did not have that experience at all. I will say, I do agree there was not an apparent manager on the floor, which is interesting. Service was excellent! Not in a Michelin rated type of way but chill/attentive/felt like family & regulars type of way. Everyone from the host to ALL the servers were kind, even the new guy on his first night. lol. They burnt the olive oil cake lol & brought us extra champagne for the wait. We were having such a good time talking, basically closed out the restaurant & didn't care. They also gave us complimentary prosciutto which was in the middle of the floor ready to be carved. Decor was dark, moody & pretty nice. Perfect for a date night or girls night! I wouldn't say loud but also not quiet. The food...bangin'! I was genuinely surprised at how delicious everything was! Trust me, get the octopus & short rib pasta. YUMMM! Made a reservation here after getting a rec and finding it as a good spot near the Comedy Cellar. Not only was the service spectacular, so was the food! Our server Corin was the best! We started with the Braised Artichokes appetizer which is unlike I've ever had them before, so delicious. My boyfriend and I both got the Orecchiette for dinner and it was an excellent choice. There are not enough stars for this review. Da Toscano is literally the most perfect restaurant ever. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Let's get started with the ambience. The place is dimly lit so it's perfect for date night. There's eccentric art all over the brick walls and there are ample tables for groups and couples. The staff was absolutely incredible. Water was replenished every few minutes. Our server was the sweetest person in the world. She even got us champagne and a candle on my dessert for my birthday. Everyone was just so attentive and recommended the best dishes. Now onto the food. The octopus carpaccio was out of this world. There is a PB&J duck dish, that combined sweet and savory, and it was incredible. The pastas were well portioned and so delicious. My boyfriend got the lamb neck pasta, and when I say it is probably one of the most best dishes I've ever tasted in my life, I'm not exaggerating. You could tell this place really puts love into every one of their dishes. I am so glad that we came here, especially for my birthday. Da Toscano really made a special for me. Reservations literally fill up two weeks in advance, so please make sure you reserve before hand. Sometimes tables open up the day of so keep a lookout for that. After the night's musical performance we were craving Italian and stumbled upon Da Toscano, and was greeted by a charming young lady by the name Genesis. Due to the restaurant's popularity we were seated at the bar and welcomed by Will. He offered some recommendations, explaining various items on the menu, accepting our order, and prepared our beverages to perfection. In what seemed like only a short time Zeke arrived with our Chef Salad and nicely warmed Focaccia with butter. The salad was fresh, crisp, delicious. After completing the salad course, Zeke returned to change our place setting and submitted our main courses for presentation. When he returned he had my Asiago Angel Hair Pasta and my lady's Pappardelle which both paired well with the Torres 2020 Tempranillo. Everything was delicious! Wow what a great meal. It's a pretty unassuming place from the outside and I walked in really knowing minimal about it and was truly impressed by every dish we got. Started with the octopus carpaccio: such a beautiful dish. It was a little hard to eat with the bread but the sesame bread itself was delicious to eat alone. Whipped ricotta toast with mushrooms: I love a good whipped ricotta toast and this one was huge. It had a sweeter glaze than I was expecting and I think maybe that could have been dialed down a bit. Tagliatelle with crab: shocking amount of crab, delicious pasta, zesty. Duck: the meat itself was great but the standouts were the sauces. Enjoyed the potato it came with too. Da Toscano is a name thrown around on lists of great Italian in NYC. I appreciate that it's actually feasible to get a reservation, unlike some others. I believe it lives up to the hype, every bite I had was amazing. I'm dying to go back and try more of the menu. There is table seating, bar seating, and what looked like walk in bar seating. We had a reservation for bar seating which is further back and facing a kitchen prep area (rather than a classic liquor bar). We ordered the foccacia, which was so fresh and fluffy. For apps we also got the octopus carpaccio and the artichokes. The artichokes were recommended by our waitress, they were my favorite app. The carpaccio was good, but I'm not sure I'd order it again. For mains, we ordered the Lamb Agnolotti and the Hazelnut Tortellini. Both were insanely good. The tortellini was very unique and special, I would recommend everyone try it because it's not a dish you can get anywhere else. We ordered the tiramisu sundae for dessert, it was ginormous and good. However, not a must have. Overall, I enjoyed every bite I had. Highly recommend all to go. read more

I would strongly urge anyone considering Da Toscano to save their time and money and go elsewhere. Our experience was unacceptable from start to finish. We waited over an hour past our reservation time with no communication or accountability from the staff. The team was not only unhelpful but came across as dismissive and condescending when we tried to get updates. When we were finally seated, things only got worse. The service was inattentive throughout the meal, and the food was incredibly underwhelming- mediocre at best and absolutely not worth the price point or the hype. To make matters worse, there appeared to be no real management presence. The "owner" (or who we were told was the owner) was nowhere to be found in terms of actually addressing the chaos in the restaurant or the many frustrated guests waiting for tables. After everything- the excessive wait, poor service, and disappointing food- there was zero attempt to make things right. Nothing was comped, no apology was offered, and to top it off, staff chased us down over the bill after we had already paid. Overall, one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. Completely disorganized, overpriced, and not worth it in any sense. Do yourself a favor and book literally anywhere else. read more

Espresso martini was good but unexpectedly $24. They took 20 minutes past our reservation time to seat us, and the food came out after over an hour. Tiramisu sundae had a lot of gelato but nothing really special about it. And while I would have never put artichokes towards the top of my veggie list. After trying, I actually put this dish on my life changing bites list - one of the best vegetable dishes I've ever had - it was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth explosion of flavor. I am dying to have it again. Then I moved on to the Garganelli verde and it was also absolutely delicious. I love saucy dishes and this one was the perfect balance of sauce and meat- the pasta was so tender and I savored every single bite and was dreading the end of my meal. Drinks: We had cocktails and they were amazing! But I don't remember the name of mine :( but it was a pink color and it was balanced on sweetness and was refreshing. After living in Italy for a few months, I am pretty picky when it comes to Italian food. However, Da Toscano blew us away! This was one of our favorite meals during our NYC trip. A few highlights on things we ordered below: Focaccia: so good. You can tell this is fresh and that the EVOO served alongside is high quality. Tortellini: good but you could make this at home. Next time I'll pass. Pasta dishes: we had a ragú as well as a lamb filled. Lamb filled was good but we didn't love the texture. The ragú was our favorite. Both were good though! Tiramisu gelato: we haven't stopped talking about this one since we came home. Tiramisu is our favorite dessert so we always get it if we see it on a menu. With this being a gelato, it is a modern approach-- but they did it sooo well. The ice cream tastes just like the mascarpone filling of tiramisu. Service here was good but nothing to write home about. Ambiance was the same story. But the food would get us back in here on a flight just for it. We really enjoyed Da Toscano! A little delayed review with all the craziness of the holidays, but this place is so consistent that it doesn't matter. Food, as always was perfection and service was flawless. Why the downgrade then? One reason only - our party of 6 was seated at a table that should NOT be in use during the winter. Or, there needs to be a heavy drapery over the window. Maybe it would affect the ambience, but vastly preferable to the current situation. it was so cold that my hand on the side of my body closer to the window was numb by the end of dinner. And I was in the middle seat. The two in our party closest to the window kept their full winter gear on throughout the meal, and still, my husband said it felt like the temperature was in the 40s at the most. I get that space is a priority - I mean restaurants keep their outdoor seating open well into the colder months. But when reserving an indoor table, you don't expect to essentially be dining outside. At least warn your guests if that's going to be the table because I would have cancelled the reservation if I had known in advance. read more

How does this place not have FIVE STARS? I have been waiting to try this place and finally did for my 52nd birthday. My decision was solely based on one NY influencer who was dipping tortellini in some EVOO, honey, and then some grated cheese (like parm). I wish I could remember the influencer because they were not wrong on one single thing...da Toscano was absolutely my favorite place this trip to NYC. We were able to sit at the chef's table and from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, every single thing and server was stellar. Corrine was our server - TOP NOTCH! We had multiple items and regretted none of them. Please make sure you try: the tortelloni, octopus carpaccio, angel hair pasta, black ink pasta with scallops (these were how scallops are meant to be cooked!!), the garlic butter stuffed chicken, and brazino. Literally all that we ordered and I'd do it again! Service was so amazing; not your stuffy NY attitude of servers just wanting to rush you out. You know when you're using the bread to sop up every last drop of sauce at the end of the meal, it's been a great Italian dinner. Managed to snag a reservation at the chef's counter on a Friday. It seemed like servers were busy as it took a few minutes before we were greeted (and when you're starving that feels like an eternity) but service was friendly and the wait was acknowledged. We started with cocktails which were tasty! I liked the 'sail away, sail away', but I loved my husband's 'la violeta' even more. The roasted oysters were delicious! I get why they're a must order. Likewise, in my opinion the focaccia is also a must order. You'll need it for your pasta sauce! The PB&J bombolone was so interesting.. familiar yet unlike anything I've had before--it was an experience. The pastas were phenomenal. The lamb agnolotti was so succulent and perfectly tender. Food (4/5) - Octopus carpaccio was interesting, definitely a work of art - watched one of the servers take out dishes and dishes of it prepped from the fridge, individual octopus tentacles sliced super thin and arranged artistically on the plate. Presentation was perfection. Octopus is always a tough choice for carpaccio because the meat itself is tougher and harder to pick up flavour. Bread accompaniment was toasted with garlic butter, which was good flavour standalone. Perhaps I left it out a little too long, crust got a little dry / too crispy for my taste. Pappardelle was amazing - very tender pasta, large sheets. Definitely get it if it is available. Together with the lamb drippings, was melt in your mouth. Lobster pasta was great also, fresh chives was key, and the tomatoes added enough zing. Was a little too salty. Apple olive oil cake is a must get. The milk jam still has me dreaming. Service (3/5) - Seated quickly with a reservation at the bar, was nice to have a view of the house preparing the food! App came out pretty quickly, as did dessert, mains took over 45 mins to come out, they seemed really busy. Ambiance (3/5) - Very dark, pretty cramped, there was minimal space to put down anything at the bar. Music got louder through the night. A few of us decided to make a reservation at Da Toscano (you 100% need one or you are not getting in!) anyway we show up to the restaurant at 7:00 p.m. and are sat immediately and we are told by the hostess that "they need the table back by 9:00 (figured that should be enough time). We place our drink order (do not order the "olive branch martini" disgusting!) and the drinks are delivered immediately. From there we put in our food order (see below for what we had) Stater: - Octopus carpaccio (best thing I have ever had, literally melts in your mouth!) Pastas: - Black tagliatelle (the pasta was cooked perfectly and the lobster was delightful) - Ricotta gnudi (they were like little clouds that melted in my mouth) - Orecchiette (unlike any other orecchiette that I have ever tasted, the Italian sausage makes the dish!) Main Plate: - Barbecued pork chop (the meat falls off the bone and the potato's are like heaven) The above was shared by the table and I would recommend going the shareable route. The dishes are brought out appetizer first followed by the pasta dishes and then ending with the main course. By the time the food runners deliver the main course you run out of time and feel rushed to exit the restaurant! We were told that we would not be able to order dessert, or we are welcome to take the dessert to go because we need to be out by 9:00 p.m. mind you we did not dictate how long the food would take to come out and we were eating at the standard pace of consuming food (no dawdling). We were told three times at the end of the meal that we need to go by 9:00 p.m. this was very rude as we would have loved to of ordered another round of drinks and dessert! Rushing paying customers out is not appropriate and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I am grading the restaurant based on the gorgeous ambiance and the food. The order would be simple & would go something like this; start the night with a Negroni & end the night with a Negroni. In all fairness, our party of three did order o few other dishes; Warm Rosemary Focaccia, Pappardelle, Ricotta Gnudi and the Tortellini. I personally enjoyed the flavors and textures of the Pappardelle most. Last but not least, make a reservation. But, if you can get to Da Toscano 10 minutes before they open, you should be able to snag a seat at the bar. Lovely restaurant in the West Village more tucked away. Ambience inside was intimate without the tables being completely on top of each other. We started with glasses of lambrusco (which was delicious). Then for appetizers did the octopus carpaccio, focaccia & the polenta tortellini. The octopus may be our favorite of the whole night, delicate and perfectly balanced. That taleggio butter that accompanied the focaccia was insane. The only dish I found to be a bit overhyped was the tortellini. It's a fun concept, dipping them in the oil, honey then parm but it was a bit lackluster. For entrees we shared the Garganelli Verde (our fav), Angel Hair (nice flavors but very over salted) & Garlic butter stuffed Chicken (SO good). Our waitress was kind and helpful but pretty absent for most of our meal. Busboys were great about being on top of the water refills which is great. Overall, we will definitely return. read more

They added 'Fazzoletti alla Genovese' and oh my god......... Top 10 pastas of my life. Short Rib and Onion Ragu pasta. GENIUS. This has become my favorite here and I really hope they leave this on the menu forever. (3/5) Started off strong with the appetizers but the pastas really fell short because they were wayy too salty sadly -- great pasta at an Italian spot is nonnegotiable. The mains were also hit or miss (good duck, but would pass on the veal). Service was great though -- warm waitstaff and very attentive with wiping down the table, pouring waters, and replacing plates between courses. Ambience is dim and intimate. Apps: + Octopus Carpaccio (4/5) - paper thin with tasty dollops of pickled eggplants / tomatoes on toast + Roasted Oysters (4/5) - 6 in an order, one of my fav roasted oyster dishes + La Tur Tortellini (3.5/5) - a simple, sweet and savory dish that hits Pastas - all too salty :( + Pappardelle (2.5/5) - strangely very cheesy?? which was very unexpected from how the dish was described. + Scialatielli (2.5/5) - actually liked the flavor of this pasta the most but these were some of the toughest to chew clams I've ever had + Orecchiette (2/5) - the most salty of the three Mains: + Veal NY Strip Parmigiana (2.5/5): Really expensive at $75, huge portion but did not taste expensive - not only were some bites were tough to chew, but there was nothing particular about the flavor either. This dish made us long for the schnitzels we had abroad. + Coriander Crusted Duck Breast (3.75/5): Duck itself was delicious! Juicy, tender, and not very gamey. I think this might be one of my favorite places to eat in New York. It is def on the pricier side but the food was so worth it. We ordered oysters, the rosemary focaccia, and the octopus carpaccio to start. The rosemary focaccia was absolutely so good! The butter that went with it was the amazing. The octopus carpaccio was also great, loved how fresh it was. Then we got 4 pastas, the tortellini, orecchiette, pappardelle, and there was one with lobster. The pasta with the lobster gave huge chunks of lobster. So flavorful and such a good deal for the amount of lobsters you're getting. My personal favs were the tortellini and orecchiette. The tortellini was like little cheese dumplings with a nutty taste. And the orecchiette had a nice pesto sauce. All in all the pastas were amazing. Portion wise they are on the smaller end so it made sense we got 4 to try. We also got the tagliata which is the steak and the garlic butter stuffed chicken. I think the chicken was the most memorable piece of the meal. The chickens skin had a honey glaze and it was so juicy. I usually never get chicken cause I'm scared it'll be dry. But this was cooked to perfection I still think of it... a lot. The desserts were all great I liked the olive cake and tiramisu gelato. I think next time I'll pass on the cheesecake. I dined at a table, for which I had to book about a month and a half in advance. While the kitchen counter seating seemed fine, it appeared to be a bit too close to others. For appetizers, we shared the warm focaccia and tortellini dipped in honey, olive oil, and parmigiano. The tortellini is a must-try--simple, light, and flavorful. For my main course, I chose the agnolotti stuffed with lamb neck, which was delicious, though I might opt for a different dish next time. The restaurant is known for its hospitality, and it certainly lived up to its reputation.
