Casarecce, bomboloni to finish, acqua pazza that tastes like the sea. The Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet and Punta Crena Rossese were both excellent calls from a serious wine list. I finally was able to revisit Marea, which has been, and still is, a legendary NYC restaurant. It didn't disappoint! It's still a venue you can go to and know you're getting some of the finest food in the city. They served some delicious bread before the meal. I had a piece of focaccia and a piece of seeded bread. I enjoyed both with lots of olive oil! I ordered the Halibut, my partner ordered the Swordfish, and we shared the Pappardelle Granchio Reale, pasta with King Crab. The Halibut was seared perfectly, it was tender and flaky. However, the farroto-bean spread underneath the fish, with leeks , snow peas and a plethora of almonds accentuated the dish to a level that exceeded my expectations! It was one of the best halibut dishes I've had. My partner's Swordfish was cooked medium by request - it was tender, juicy and had a delicious fennel flavor with a chorizo vinaigrette. We shared the Pappardelle Granchio Reale, which was a pasta in garlic butter, with parsley and king crab on top. It was very tasty, and sharing it was perfect with the fish! We were quite full from dinner, but decided to order the Bombolini, which were little sugar powdered Beignets and a tiny cup of dark chocolate sauce. The doughnuts were flavorful but doughy and the 'dark chocolate' sauce was more of a caramel sugar sauce. Overall, Marea was the perfect venue for seeing old friends in the city. Marea is the real deal. One of the best true high end restaurants anywhere. Understand that this is a seafood (underscore) Italian restaurant. The food is exquisite, the service impeccable, and it is a truly beautiful place. I've been twice in the past month for business dinners. So far I've tried the oysters, bruschetta (garlic bread, kaluga caviar, burrata), Branzino (seabass tartare, pistachio, calabrian chile, radish, chive) - out of this world, Madaldine Granchio Reale (pasta ribbons, king crab garlic butter, parsley, lemon, mollica) - also unbelievably good, and the tiramisu (sort of a deconstructed one). Un-be-lieve-able. The Branzino with the radish was life changing. The crab pasta is one of the best things I've ever eaten. All the food was wonderful, and the service is friendly and professional. Another great meal in a beautiful space, soft lighting but bright enough to read the menus and white fabric blinds on the street side providing playful lighting rather than views of pedestrian and car traffic, quiet enough to enjoy the dinner conversation. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Now to the food, a few new dishes on the menu. Chose the creamy ricotta filled ravioli on a bed of puréed ramp topped with peas and crispy bits of lamb. Only wished there was a little more lamb, the crispy bits added a nice contrast in texture to the house-made ravioli. Their version of Cesar salad is incredible topped with toasted bread crumbs, the portion size more than generous enough to share. I've been wanting to come here for a long time, and I probably should have, because I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. The service was a bit bumpy. The sommelier was great, but our server was slightly condescending. Perhaps she judged us because we were a bit younger, but I don't think she realized we were paying with a corporate card. At some points the clearing was aggressive and at other points we had to ask for fresh plates between courses. I love the wine we ordered: a blanc de blancs with a surprisingly fruity finish and a delicious, classic chablis. The meal started and ended strong, but the in between was a bit puzzling. We loved: The Siberian caviar experience with the cheese puffs was divine. The oysters were good. The fusilli with octopus and bone marrow. The halibut main. The bistecca. Not so much: The sea urchin (ricci) had a weird flavor. The Nova Scotia lobster and burrata came with a sort of chia pudding, which didn't work in terms of flavor or texture. The sea bass tartare did not look appetizing and textures were a bit more interesting, but the flavors were not great. The ricotta ravioli was just okay. Not sure I would come back and they probably don't want me to after this review, but I'll likely opt to try one of the other 30,000 restaurants in this city. read more

What made it extra special is they brought back my favorite - Pasta with Uni and Crab!!!! Marea is definitely the scene located steps from Central Park, full of beautiful people & wallstreet types and buzzing like it's Friday night in Manhattan even on a Tuesday. We had a reservation and still waited about 20 minutes to be seated -The host staff were not friendly or welcoming at all - they had a "you get what you get" attitude but we weren't phased, it gave us time to people watch from the bar. Many guests were left standing and hovering near the hostess stand, which made the entrance area feel a bit chaotic. Once we finally got our table, the service was polite but kind of mechanical. Like, efficient but not exactly warm. The food was beautifully presented, but flavor wise it didn't match the price tag. We ordered a couple of appetizers , an entree and dessert so I left full... but not impressed. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype or the price point for me. While beautifully presented, most of the dishes were somewhat underwhelming, especially considering Marea's reputation and cost. Now the one thing I would come back for is their "bruschetta." And I say that in quotes because it's not your typical tomato-basil pomodoro style . This one is garlic bread topped with burrata and kaluga caviar. It's fancy, it's bougie, it's delicious , basically the Beyoncé of appetizers. All in all, Marea is worth a try if you're staying nearby and want the full Manhattan dining experience of polished, pricey, and packed. But for me, it was more of a "been there, done that, glad I wore heels" kind of night. Probably not one I'd return to. read more

Sat outside this time (2025) and they had a great server with a good sense of humor, kept the drinks flowing and came to attention anytime we needed anything pretty regularly, fixing any order issues, and while the seating wasn't the most comfortable (a lot of noise and end of summer heat), the food and service was worth it. Appetizers were ok, probably have to try the oysters next time - the sea bass tartare was ok for me, others liked it more, and the polipo (grilled octopus) was good, they pre-cut it for us to help with sharing. Bread came around twice, and a small dip of olive oil to go with the multigrain or focaccia. Had 3 different pastas, these were all excellent, and they helped us split them up: - casarecce (crab, sea urchin, basil, chile) - excellent, rich - fusilli (octopus, bone marrow) - always a fave - risotto al funghi (mushroom, taleggio, parmigano) Desserts - panna cotta was softer than I'd like, and I don't like tiramisu, but the bomboloni dessert was great - little fried donuts and caramel/berry sauce to dip into. At lunch on a weekeday, the restaurant was quiet. It was comfortable and easy to have a conversation. The meal was delicious and the service was great with a few mostly pleasant surprises. The bread offered at the start was wonderful. I really liked the texture. We ordered the ruccalo to share, which I thought was a side, but it was served first as a regular salad; I was surprised that it came first and that it was so big. It wasn't overdressed - it was light, fresh, and delicious. My swordfish was cooked perfectly. I was surprised that the clams that came with it weren't warm. The branzino was moist with crispy skin. The pomegranate mocktail was so good, I plan to make pitchers of it this summer. The server surprised us with the tiramasu. It was wrapped in a thin chocolate shell to look like a big coffee bean. The civilized, pretty (very full) dining room and great Columbus Circle/ CPS location are only eclipsed by the excellent service and impeccably prepared cuisine. We, again, wholly enjoyed every moment of our delightful dining experience. On this visit, we enjoyed potato and kaluga caviar to start, which was delicious. We then shared two pastas, the pappardelle with king crab and garlic butter and the ricotta filled ravioli (marubini) with ramp and lamb. Both were perfectly prepared, al dente, and had excellent, rich, well seasoned flavor. DELICIOUS! We then opted for the halibut which was perfectly prepared as well. The halibut was fresh, cooked beautifully and adorned with almonds....it was exceptional. The service is utterly polished, attentive, gracious and professional. The very good wine list and cocktail menu also deserve kudos. (The Marea gin martini is a martini lovers savory dream! ) Marea is, INDEED, a triple threat with a great location and ambiance, attentive, accommodating and refined service, and delicious food. We had a pleasant time at Marea for our anniversaries, but we left somewhat underwhelmed by the overall experience. Service was good - attentive, knowledgeable- all you'd expect from a restaurant at this price point. For starters, the oysters we had were ...oysters. Fresh, nice variety but nothing extraordinary. Same with their "Polipo" - their grilled octopus. We've had better at local Greek and Italian restaurants for sure. Entrees were mixed. I thought my Fusilli dish, with a bone marrow red sauce and baby octopus, was very good. The Malfadine - pasta with king crab in a garlic butter, parsley and breadcrumbs - was just OK. Sounded great, tasted a bit bland. Same with the Casarecce - lump crab, sea urchin with a bit of spice from the chilis - was just OK. Our favorite this evening was the side order of potatoes, the "Patate". Our drinks were also a mixed experience and nothing extraordinary. "Singapore Sling" was solid, However, the ladies' choice of "Royal Blush" lacked any dominant flavor. We knew we picked the right spot when we looked to our left and realized we were seated next to none other than the legendary Sting. That set the tone for the night -- and then came the food. We started things off with the Astice not your typical burrata dish, Poached Nova Scotia lobster, burrata, basil, eggplant, tomato, and beluga caviar all came together in a combination that was insane. Next up, the Marubini, delicate ricotta-filled ravioli served in a cacio de pepe sauce. Perfect balance of taste and texture. For mains, we went with the Bronzino and the whole scampi. The Bronzino had a beautiful char and rich flavor, while the scampi brought a clean, fresh bite that tied the meal together. For dessert, we couldn't resist ordering two. We had early dinner with a group of 4 here on a Saturday. The clientele + pricing speak for how upscale the spot is -- it's pricey! But the service is really solid, and the food is actually really good. It's a place where you should probably dress up, great for visitors, but probably not if you aren't comfortable with higher end places. We ended up being able to pay with inKind thankfully, which helped reduce the bill. Enjoyed the astice, razor clams, mushroom risotto, fusili, and the scallops. Fave was the mushroom risotto. They also had a delicious desserts- cioccolato, and torta mirtillo, as well as a separate celebration dessert for our friend's birthday. Of course this kind of establishment doesn't ask if you want to order mores sparkling water, they will just keep refilling it and make you pay at the end. So, overall the food was great, I can't even say come for lunch for cheaper price point since the menu online looks similar between lunch/dinner. Definitely come expecting high end pricing. But for italian, it's probably better to go to Ci Siamo because the quality is the same, but the pricing is much more reasonable. We didn't even order alcohol and we still spent ~$70 per person (pre-inKind). read more

We had an extremely disappointing experience here as a group of four. Our bill was almost $900 including bottles of wine, so this was not a casual or low-spend visit. Despite that, we were made to feel unwelcome towards the end of the evening. Staff began clearing our table without asking or receiving permission, while we were still seated. Shortly after, we were explicitly asked to leave because we had "overstayed," even though no time limit had been communicated in advance. Also, they took forever to take our orders. If there is a strict seating policy, it should be made clear upfront -- not enforced abruptly and rudely after guests have spent a significant amount of money. The way this was handled felt disrespectful. Being the only four brown people at the restaurant it totally felt discriminatory. For a restaurant positioning itself at this price point, the service and hospitality fell far below expectations. We won't be returning and would not recommend this place to others looking for a welcoming dining experience. We did bring this up to the management and they seemed more interested in getting the credit card charged right away and did not offer any significant apologies. My partner's birthday is December 22nd. So, every year I take her to a really nice restaurant for dinner. In the pre-Pandemic days, I used to take her to Del Posto down on 10th Ave, a very -expensive evening but first-class service, food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, they didn't make it through the pandemic and they've closed. We've tried a number of different restaurants over the last couple years with varying degrees of success. Last night I took her to Marea on Central Park South. This is the restaurant we're probably going to go to again and again. Expensive, yes. But first-class food, service and atmosphere. Our server made excellent suggestions and the sommelier chose the perfect wine in our price range. We started by sharing the Insalata (one of the best salads I have ever tasted) and the Ricciola - delicious little bites. For the Primi, my partner chose the Fusilli and I the Bistecca, medium rare. The tastes were incredible. The La Fornace Brunello that the sommelier recommended went perfectly with my meat dish and her seafood fusilli. For deserts we went with the Crostata and Budino. The food was all ok- nothing noteworthy. The uni starter was quite bland and lacked the typical flavor from uni. The tartare was very good with contrasting textures that worked well and nice taste. The ravioli was fine with a creamy sauce and nice Parmesan but otherwise not memorable. The cauliflower was pretty dry and didn't have enough of the orange sauce underneath, I think otherwise it would've been better with more. Wow. What a positive experience! We went for an early dinner without reservations and were fortunate enough for my wife and I to be seated immediately. Our server Robert was just outstanding. His attention to detail was top notch, his understanding of the menu and his enjoyable conversation really added to the night. My wife and I both got the Halibut. We both felt it was one of the best fish dishes we ever had. For an appetizer we got the spaghetti dish that Robert was able to make a partial size to work as an appetizer along with a salad. One of the best restaurants in Manhattan for fresh pasta and fish. A bit pricy but the Dover sole and the Bronzino were the best I've ever had in my life. The fusilli with octopus and bone marrow was over the top amazing. Also something as simple as sautéed escarole and garlic was elevated to the superlative level. Our waiter was super professional without being fake or contrived, but nice and thoughtful and efficient in an unobtrusive way. The scene is buzzing with energy and style And the bar scene, though beautiful and fun for those seated there is reserved for diners only; meaning one cannot sit at the bar for drinks, which was a huge disappointment. We typically enjoy a drink seated at the bar before heading over to a table for dinner. You can't do that here, and again it was disappointing in that regard. The octopus was definitely my favorite app, but the tartare was tasty as well. For some reason I wasn't really feeling the salad, but glad I got my greens. So, almost all of my visits are not in the reservation system and obviously I'm there far less than the many diners who are there multiple times per week or even more. Each and every time I have enjoyed a meal at Marea over the years, whether at the bar or a table I have been greeted with kindness as if I were one of the regulars. Every staff member has always proven to be at the highest level in the hospitality field and every dish I've had is always prepared perfectly with top quality ingredients. My "must order" is the Fusilli (red wine braised octopus, bone marrow). We had two of our go-to entrees: Capesante (pan-seared sea scallop, summer squash, spaetzle, mint) and Bistecca (grilled Creekstone Farm sirloin, little gem, bone marrow panzanella). We also ordered a side of Broccolini (bomba calabrese, molica). Everything was just spectacular. I especially liked the Casarecca. We came here for a date night and I didn't have any expectations, my partner had picked it out after I told him I was craving seafood pasta and he happened to take me to the place that is KNOWN for seafood and pasta. Be prepared to spend a lot of $$$ because the entire menu - drinks and food are definitely on the high end of price points. For the experience, for the service, and the quality - it was absolutely worth. They start off by bringing a board of different assorted bread which you can pick and eat as much as you want. I went with the focaccia which was delicious and paired really well with their house-made oil. We ordered a half dozen oysters, ordered a variety so we could try different ones and they were so fresh and amazing. Already started the meal off with a bang. We went with the Polipo appetizer which is their octopus and it was mind-blowing how soft and how it seemed to have melt in our mouth. Very well cooked, seasoned, and presented. We also shared the Casarecce which was DIVINE, their jumbo lump crap pasta with uni puree, basil and calabrian chili. Because we told them we'd like to share everything, the kitchen went ahead and split the dishes into separate plates for us including the appetizer and entree which were very thoughtful. The MARUBINI pasta entree was my favorite bite of the night. Being located on Billionaires' Row has altered the atmosphere somewhat. It's gone from a midtown business dining spot to a very upscale neighborhood restaurant with wealthy families rolling in wearing T-shirts and sneakers, and a much livelier bar dining scene than I recall in the past. What it concedes in formality, it makes up for with new energy. I love it either way and hope to return soon. read more
