Sicilian theme with selection of wines to match. Nice ambiance and good people in and out We were served some bread and olive oil poured table side - nice show....and tasty olive oil. I had the pasta pommodoro and it was super. Pasta cooked aldente and the sauce had good acidity but balanced with sweetness and the salt from the parmesan. Worked well...it was a small portion but I shared some and the others loved it. Pizzas were the other mains and an arugula salad was the starter. The arugula was OK...standard fare. Good pizza with thin crust and really nice sauce and cheese well balanced. Anchovies were a little scarce but tasty... Overall a great experience. I highly recommend this place. read more

Ambiance: You can sit in three different locations at this restaurant. One infront of the restaurant (on the street and next to the bicycle lane), you can sit inside, or they have a backyard section (which I didn't get to see). I chose to sit inside and right off the bat it's very cute. The lights are dim (but you can still see the menu) and the vibes are Italian vintage. It creates a cozy and romantic setting. Only complaint is that the space is a little tight. You have to squeeze between the tables in the inside of the restaurant which can make it uncomfortable with the other patrons. Service: We had about three different men serve us throughout the night (one would drop off some food and clean our table, one would take our order and check in on us, another asking if we wanted dessert). All the waiters were attentive and friendly and quick to respond to any requests. Some things that I took note of (pros): they clean the crumbs off your table if they see it's become dirty, they pack your leftovers for you, they take away finished plates relatively quick. Food: The food was amazing. So flavorful and filling. I got the arancini ragu (I'm not usually into rice balls because I find them flavorless, but this has sauce and peas and meat on the inside that just blended so well); I'd definitely get this again. I also got the potato croquettes with their garlic aioli and it was also delicious! I ended up splitting one main with my friend as we had a feeling the other foods would fill us (which we were right). For our main we got the Anelletti Siciliani; it was unique and sooooo good. We still had some leftover (which surprisingly tasted even better when I warmed it up in the microwave later on). If you want Italian definitely look into this spot. This place seems to boast a few Italian natives as their servers/chefs. The ambiance is dark, with a lot of high backed booth seating (I found this uncomfortable). It's not all that well kept - a bit sticky and grimy in places. But the server was informative and eager. I wouldn't recommend the margherita pizza - it had a bit of a soggy crust and didn't really impress. This place is always crowded but we came on a Friday night and were seated pretty quickly. For food, we started with the bruschetta and meatballs. The bruschetta was very plain and lacked flavor but the meatballs were delicious. For dinner, we split the taglioni and lasagna which were very good. The lasagna was definitely my favorite and the portion size was pretty big! Was the perfect amount to split but we didn't finish because we were so full! It is a shame because the food is first class, first rate, first in every category, except price. The service is pretty first rate as well. This review focuses mainly on the food. Every item I ordered was fresh and delicious. My server was intelligent and knew exactly what direction to point me in. This is not just a pizzeria, this is like walking into your Nonna's kitchen and enjoying rustic Italian dishes that you likely will not see at most Italian establishments. How many of them do you know of serve Timballo? Not many, I presume. The lack of free bread hurts too. Sure, you get a free basket, but I think every basket thereafter costs you. Norma is so good, they opened another branch in Hells Kitchen. The three of us shared a salad, two rice balls and pasta, just enough food for dinner. I don't know what they do with arugula and balsamic dressing, but it far surpasses what I make at home. My favorite is the Al Burra Arancina with mozzarella, prosciutto and béchamel sauce. While I wouldn't have chosen the Tagliolini Lamb, nobody had to twist my arm to take seconds. You can sit out front on Third Avenue, inside if you prefer, and I assume the charming garden in the back is still an option for an al fresco meal. read more

Had the "Norma" arancini and the tuna pizza pie. When we asked if they could skip salami on one half of the diavalo pizza, they said they couldn't do a half and half. I mean how difficult is it to skip one topping on half of the pizza ? This made me feel that they just didn't care to make any adjustments. Also looked like the waiter wasn't really paying attention to our request. Food was brought out quickly (they brought bread - we didn't even get a chance to touch it and then they took it away to make space for our pizza :)) and felt a bit rushed. I didn't care for the tuna pizza so much. Nothing extraordinary in terms of flavor profile or crust compared to other brick oven pizza places. The arancini was good. I've been to the spot a handful of times though only for lunch when I was looking for a tasty filling Italian meal. They specialize in Sicilian food and they have some dishes here that you really don't find in many other spots. The service is a bit slow but friendly so perhaps you don't want to go in here on a lunch break like I did. It was pretty quiet the two times I was there but seems quite crowded during dinner time. They serve some tasty crusty bread with some good olive oil. The first time I was here I had one of their Cabbuci; the Cunzato for $19 with in vine tomatoes, anchovies, primo sale oregano, and Moroccan olives. Cabbuci is a Sicilian specialty essentially consisting of durum wheat flour bread cooked in a wood fired oven. It almost resembles a pizza but is almost healthier tasting. The filling was a bit salty of course from the combination of the anchovies and the olives but it was still tasty. The next time I had the pasta with the lamb ragu (I presume the one with the goat cheese but I'm not sure) which I remember being excellent. The other time and the most recent time, I had the Pasta "C'Anchova." it's not currently listed on the menu PDF on their website but I think said PDF is old as there is a more recent menu photo which has this dish and it's available to order online. The description of the pasta is a bit of a mouthful with Margherita pasta from Gragnano with anchovies "Scalia," tomato paste, garlic, pine nuts, raisins, and toasted bread crumbs. This was probably one of the most unique pasta dishes I've ever ordered. The raisins added a flavor and texture I would never expect from pasta and there was otherwise crunch and some saltiness. I liked it a lot but I'm not sure if others would. At night time, this is one of the more popular Italian spots especially in this neighborhood and there's a reason why they expanded to Hell's Kitchen under the full name as well. On New Year's Eve around 9pm, we accidentally ordered from a restaurant much farther away than we realized. Once we noticed, we immediately called to explain the situation, and Marcos was beyond kind and reassuring. He told us not to worry at all and said they would deliver our order since we didn't know what to do. Within 25 minutes, someone arrived on a bike to deliver our food on New Year's Eve late at night, which completely blew us away. Marco truly went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and his kindness made our entire family so happy. The service was an outstanding and unexpected surprise, but the food absolutely matched it. We tried a variety of dishes including meatballs, pasta, and pizza, and every single item was amazing. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. Exceptional service, incredible food, and a moment we won't forget. We will definitely be ordering again. read more

We have been going to, and ordering from, Norma since it opened in 2016. Our love for it has grown stronger every year. When it first opened I believe that most people thought of it as a Sicilian wine bar with good food. Well, I don't drink and my wife has an occasional glass of wine so for us it has always been about the food which keeps getting better and better. Norma has some of the best pastas that we've had particularly the Sicilian ones that I haven't found anywhere else. Busiate Al Pesto Trapanese. Couscous con Pesce. Pasta con Sarde a Timballo. All delicious. So are the pizzas and the cabbuci. The service has always been friendly and attentive. When the pandemic was still going on Norma became one of our favorite go to places. The icing on the cake is that it's only two blocks from our apartment. Norma is truly one of the great joys of our neighborhood. read more

Small authentic Sicilian cozy bistro. No frills in the decor and tables close together. But the food and service were excellent. Had the Caprese salad to start. Nice tasty portion big enough to share. Then I had Paccheri à la Norma with eggplant and red sauce. Very very good and big. It had some spice in it too for a kick. Wife had the fettuccine with mushrooms which she liked a lot. The bread was super outstanding. I'm a stickler for good bread and this was it, perfect for dipping in EVOO. The recommended red wine was a Nero D Avila. It went perfectly with the meal. We'll be back soon for stuffed artichokes and pasta with lamb, or maybe sardines. . The pizza is Neapolitan and is the best in the neighborhood. Could have played more traditional Italian music or maybe Sinatra, but you can't have everything. read more

1 star for the really great food but I do need to leave a poor review for the way they packaged our food to go. They put hot soup in a box and it ended up seeping through on our walk home and all of the food was spoiled from dropping on the floor and being soiled from the broth . The Norma pizza was worth the price. The pizza had fresh eggplants, ricotta salata, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. The crust was perfectly cooked and was fluffy and slightly charred. Based on flavor alone, the pizza may have been the best thing I have had in the city. My friend really loved the lasagna he ordered. We both were stuffed after we had our meals. Additionally, the servers are very friendly and the restaurant has a beautiful brick walls and feels like you are in an old Italian family's kitchen. I loved it! read more

The lamb tagliolini was okay but lacked depth of flavour. They also cooked their pasta a bit softer. Classic over priced factory produced food. The meatballs were tiny and perfectly round smothered in some kind of jar sauce with melted cheese on top. Came here for my work holiday lunch and this place really hit the spot. It's a cozy restaurant so the tables are a bit on the small side. We had about 12 people in our group. We ordered a bunch of apps for the table including burrata, mix of aranchinis, and Fresto misto. The aranchinis all had different fillings. One had mushrooms, one had ham, and one had meat sauce. They also came in different shapes which was fun (cone and ball). I got the lamb ragu pasta which was a hefty portion for lunch. The noodles tasted homemade and the sauce was really flavorful. It came with some goat cheese on top which helped cut the heaviness of the pasta. Definitely a new go to Italian spot for me. read more

Seafood couscous was also amazing, with chopped nuts in the flavorful soup. Just realized the seafood portion did not come with mussels like the menu said it would, but it was still excellent. Food is mixed...I had spaghetti with pomodoro sauce and it was average at best. My husband had a pizza with buffalo mozzarella and he loved it. Prices are okay...it came to about $60 + tip for a pasta, a pizza, and a bottle of Pelligrino. I might return for pizza but I don't recommend the pasta here. read more
