We split the appetizer of fresh barata mozzarella w/ basil and prosciutto then I enjoyed homemade pasta with eggplant and cheese , friend had risotto w/fresh asparagus , another gnocchi with sausage and broccoli rabe and finally black ink pasta with fresh clams. All fabulous! It is located in theatre district but, Unlike many other restaurants in the area it is spacious with tables not crowded on top of each other. Decor is classic and light filled due to skylight with outdoor tables in nice weather. They will rush if you have curtain call to make or allow you to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal. We shared a reasonably priced bottle of very drinkable Pinot Grigio and shared profiteroles to end the meal. read more

The service here was great!! The atmosphere was nice, but I wasn't a huge fan of their edm playlist (I love edm, just didn't think it fit the vibe). The food was good, I enjoyed the Mozzarella Farcita Dello Chef. My entree was their special risotto with saffron, peas and shrimp. It was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Is this the best Italian restaurant in NYC? No, but the service is excellent, the food decent and prices on par with other restaurants. I'm giving it 3 stars because I wasn't in love with the food, but maybe we ordered the wrong things. I would come back to try other dishes. read more

Five star experience tucked away. Every time I visit NYC I have to find La Masseria. The benchmark for good food and even better attentive and personal waitstaff. I feel each time I visit, that I've arrived to family and they will take good care of me while I enjoy my meal. The wine selection is fantastic and the waiters always know what to suggest when pairing with your meal. There are more than one locations and this one was my first. My favorite is the one with the wine bottles on the wall...backlit. My friend had branzino. I had pasta with meat sauce with the right amount of al dente. The sauce was rich and flavorful. After a late night at the theater we found this spot for dinner. It did say they were open late but when we got there they did say that we would need to order quickly before the kitchen closed which was fine with us. I understood the kitchen was closing soon but the service just seemed like they were a bit annoyed that we had come in so late but online it said they didn't close for another hour. They brought out some bread and this oil with capers to start and we all ordered our entrées right away along with a glass of wine. I got the ravioli dish which you could tell was fresh made pasta and perfectly thin I really enjoyed it. Holy cow! This was a fabulous meal. My partner and I came in hungry and boy were we satisfied. Excellent and diverse wine list - half bottles too. Started with meatball app which were moist with the most divine and simple tomato sauce. Then had two half portions of pasta - ravioli and bolognese. The bolognese, hands down, was one of the best I've had in my life. Would absolutely go back just for this. Finished off the night with the truffled pork tenderloin and the passion fruit sorbet. Port was moist and delicious and the appropriate amount of truffle-y. Passion fruit sorbet was a nice light and refreshing end to the night. The food came out so quickly and our waiter paced it well. Overall this was about 3.5 stars. While I don't have any major criticisims, I'm not sure this will be a regular stop on our NYC trips. The restaurant is charming with a loft where most of the parties of two sat. Service was good. I appreciate that they split our dishes for us and attentive given the large crowd. They are efficient at getting you in and out for the show. We started with the octopus, shared a plate of the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli. Our main plate was the orata (similar to a branzino), which was well prepared. We shared a sorbet as well with three glasses of wine. We spent $259 with tax and a 20+% tip. Unbelievable food and fantastic service. We were in town and were lucky to stumble to find the gem at 10:30pm for dinner on a Friday night. We loved it so much we went back the next night. The restaurant closed at 11pm and they were so gracious to allow us to really take our time enjoying our meal. They let in quite a few people after us as well! Also beautiful restaurant. My only recommendation is to add lights in the front (lots of them) since it looked closed. We almost walked right passed it and so glad we did a double take. Awesome place! read more

Easily one of my favorite meals during my NYC trip. The service was exceptional and our waiter didn't write a single thing down, which was impressive given the size of our group. I ordered the Bolognese, and wow - it tasted like it came straight out of Italy. Wine was delicious though. Service was the biggest drawback about this place. They had gotten one of our orders wrong and kept trying to give it to us after we reminded them three times that it was the wrong order. The restaurant also felt quite packed as it seemed they had a table or two too many to fit as many people in as possible. When asking the waiter to process two meals on one card he looked confused then came back later saying he forgot and split it across all cards. Wow! This place is amazing. Came in Wednesday around noon, party of 6. The place was packed with the pre-theater matinee diners (and probably extra busy because its the holiday season) and was buzzing. The service is spectacular. They have a well oiled machine and know exactly what they're doing to make sure nothing goes wrong. I was so impressed watching all the staff whiz around the restaurant. They start you off with a complimentary bread basket. We started with 3 appetizers - the burrata special, mozzarella farcita dello chef (homemade fresh mozzarella cheese stuffed with sweet roast peppers & marinated eggplant, served with fresh tomatoes & basil) and the calamari. Everything was excellent. Plenty of food for us 6 and still had leftovers. For an entrees I had the agnolotti piemontesi - homemade veal & parmesan cheese ravioli with wild mushrooms sauce. Devine! A must. My colleagues raved about their homemade potato gnocchi with radicchio & taleggio cheese sauce which also looked so great. Cocktails all around were wonderful. I dined here recently with a friend prior to a broadway show. We had reservations and were seated quickly. The table we were given was nice and against the wall, though as other tables filled in it became almost comically difficult to get out from our row of tables. The server was knowledgeable and made good suggestions to us. We started with a burrata appetizer that was a special. The burrata was delicious and creamy and asparagus perfectly cooked. I had the bolognese, my friend the pasta with clams. The bolognese was very tasty, though pasta could have been cooked a little less. It was very soft. The pasta with clams were just okay. Clams cooked well but the sauce for the pasta was missing flavor. It resembled pasta with oil. It could have benefited from fresh garlic, white wine, or just more of whatever seasoning was used. La Masseria is located in Times Square on 48th St between 7th and 8th ave. It also has a cafe nextdoor and that is right next to the Walter Kerr Theatre (where Hadestown is housed). It's also sometimes patronized by Ariana Grande and her family. Service was very sparse - I rarely saw the waiter and ended up ordering less because I just couldn't find him until most of the meal was over. Fritto Misto Del Mare $32.50 - fried calamari and shrimp with a marinara sauce on the side. The quality of the ingredients are excellent and the breading is very light. Can't recommend this enough, I think it's the best thing I had there. MISTICANZA ALL` ACETO BALSAMICO - bare bones salad - though affordable at $16.50 is largely bitter and unappetizing. Comes with greens and a small tomato. SPAGHETTI ALLO SPUGNITO DI POMODORO - very bare bones again, and underwhelming at $29.00. The sauce is a bit tainted by the bitter basil that they used and otherwise has very little flavor. PENNE MASSERIA $32.50 - the mozzarella and bacon make for a heavy/greasy sauce that just doesn't sit well. again, underwhelming quality of the sauce. Tiramisu - large helping for I think $16.00, almost no liqueur if any and rather on the sweet side. read more

They do a nice job with the space fitting a lot of people and trying to make it a more upscale restaurant. I was surprised on portion sizes! You get a decent amount and still pay your typical NYC prices. The presentation overall looked nice it just all lacked flavor. The chicken wasn't seasoned, making the cheese the most flavorful part of the dish. The salad was also overpowered by cheese, using a shaved parm would have helped the overall salad. Super cozy Italian spot in the heart of NYC. Perfect for a pre-Broadway dinner! We came here and were seated on the upper balcony. There's plenty of seating in the restaurant. They do parties and large meals that are family-style, as well as intimate dinners very well. The interior is decorated in a rustic, yet charming way. The food was delicious and well-portioned! We ordered salad and pasta to share and an entree each. This was too much food for me. I should have skipped the entree completely, especially as I ordered the veal chop stuffed with cheese and prosciutto (or pancetta). I thought I was getting a thick veal chop with a little stuffing. This was a huge chop pounded thin, then breaded and stuffed with huge amounts of filling. It almost filled my plate but just had room for mashed potato and spinach also. The chop was not pink anywhere and was not juicy. This was a disappointment. I was not hungry enough to enjoy it - my fault. I greatly underestimated the portion sizes. I had intended to have a nice final meal for our stay in NYC, and my wife and I were pretty disappointed and it was a lousy end to an otherwise pleasant vacation. My wife's disk was also pretty boring. Our seat for two was near the wall, but the large metal heater system was jabbing into my leg the whole time; there wasn't room under the table for one of my legs. Pretty horrible. The waiter only came briefly to get the drink and food order, never refilled our water or came back to check on us, etc. The bread basket was dry and boring; free but not worth eating. Finally, the restaurant was extremely loud, so we couldn't really talk during our depressing dinner. We left as soon as possible. read more
