Tried a new place this week for us called Royal Myanmar Restaurant. They feature authentic Burmese food & other asian styles. Our server was very helpful in pointing out the authentic dishes which helped navigate the menu. Our party of 4 started off with 2 sushi rolls and a order of spring rolls to share. Our meals which i described in my pictures were amazing!! First time I have ever had a noodle or rice dish come out of the kitchen as hot (temp wise) as these - right out of the pan. The spice levels we ordered 5 & 6 were perfect for our taste. ( this is on a scale ot 1-10) Our group of 4 had an assortment of Pork (not pictured) chicken & shrimp in our dishes & all were cooked to perfection. We ended our dinner with a piece of traditional Burmese dessert- which was served warm. Not overly sweet & a nice way to end a delicious meal. We will definitely be back to try many more dishes. One of my new favorites in Pitt! This is a one of a kind Burmese - Southeast Asian Fusion restaurant; which is most likely the only Burmese restaurant with in 100mi of the area! The food is always flavorful and came out pretty quickly! The owners and staff are always very personable and friendly :) The ambiance is cozy and very comfortable! Arrived here spontaneously on a Saturday night when our original dinner location had an insane wait time. They were able to seat our party of 4 within seconds and brought out our drinks quickly. The server was very friendly and she checked on us frequently. We all ordered different mains. I had the pad thai 5/10 spicy with chicken and shrimp. It definitely packed good heat. My mouth was on fire a few bites in! Everyone at the table loved their meals too with the exception of my brother who thought his soup was just ok. It didn't come with noodles and when we asked for a side of them to add, the staff were more than accommodating. I told the waitress it was my brother's birthday and she brought out a desert with a candle and sung to him. It was super sweet! Would definitely come back. read more

Royal Myanmar is a local Asian restaurant that has a casual atmosphere. Please see my attached photos for its menu in January 2024. The menu items seem to reflect cuisine not only from Myanmar/Burma but also other countries such as China, India, Japan, and Thailand. My husband and I ate lunch here. We interacted with two employees, and they both served us very promptly and politely. I greatly appreciated their recommendations for the most authentic Burmese foods. Here are my reviews for our foods: Crispy pork spring roll - 4.5 stars - This appetizer consisted of three fried rolls that were filled with pork, mushrooms, and noodles. On the side was a flavorful sweet-chili sauce. Pickled Tea leaf salad - 5 stars - This salad consisted of tea leaf, cabbage, tomato, garlic, peanuts, broad beans, yellow peas, sesame seed, and lime dressing. This salad was very different from other salads that I have eaten elsewhere, and I enjoyed the flavors in every bite. Chicken and Potato Curry - 5 stars - This entree contained chunks of juicy chicken, chunks of potatoes, and a curry sauce. I had requested a spiciness level of medium or 5/10, and the cook added the proper amount of spice. On the side was a bowl of steamed rice. Pad Thai - 4.5 stars - My husband ate this entree, and I taste-tested a couple of bites. The entree contained stir-fried rice noodles, chunks of chicken, shrimps, bean sprouts, scallions, scrambled eggs, peanuts, and sauce. My husband does not like spice, so he requested a level of 1/10. The cook made the entree not spicy but still flavorful. Golden Shwe Ji - 4.5 stars - The menu said that this dessert contained wheat coconut cream, raisins, brown sugar, and poppy seeds. The flavors were very new to my tastebuds, but I liked them. Mango milkshake - 5 stars - This milkshake tasted sweet and was a perfect counterbalance to the spices in my appetizer and entree. Thai iced tea - 5 stars - My husband drank this tea. It tasted slightly spicy and was refreshing. The total price for this meal was $75 plus a tip. Currently, the U.S. State Department has a travel advisory of "Level 4: Do Not Travel" for Burma, so I might never have the opportunity to eat Burmese food in that country. I feel thankful that Royal Myanmar restaurant gave me the experience of eating Burmese foods. read more

Surprisingly 1st time here despite being super close to me. Appreciated a 5 roll maki combo for $21. Everything tasted very simple and clean. The smoked salmon was served cold which I personally prefer as a heated roll. Also served with a base ginger whereas I tend to enjoy the spots that have the pickled ginger for some acidity. Simple inside. Solid service overall. I'll be back to explore the non-sushi items at some point! read more

Fantastic food. If you've never had Burmese food, it clearly has influences from the cuisine of its neighbors (a bit Indian/Bangladeshi, a bit Thai/Laotian/Vietnamese) while being its own thing. The inside is small with some Burmese art on the walls with some cool Burmese music to vibe to (my wife even Shazamed a few songs). The bathrooms in the back were a little dingy, but adequate (my wife says the women's room has a changing table - no luck in the men's room). The food was fantastic. The avocado milkshake is delicious - rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. We opted for the appetizer sampler platter (fried split pea tofu, samosas, and chicken satay - all okay) and the squash fritter dumplings. The sour tamarind dipping sauce was delicious. For the main, we split two dishes: the Ohn-No Sauk Kwe, which is a savory coconut broth chicken soup (tastes even better with the gram fritter accompaniment), and the pork Nyat Khaukswe Kyaw, which was sort of reminiscent of Thai drunken noodles. I think this was my favorite dish. When asked what our spice preference was on a scale of 1-10, we played it safe and went with 5. I could maybe have taken a 6, but it was still delicious (and my wife was grateful it wasn't any spicier. Our waitress was friendly and got the food out to us quick. The prices are fair (a little cheaper at lunch) and the portions generous. Highly recommended. read more

My absolute favorite is the chicken and potato curry, which is so flavorful and always hits the spot, particularly on a cold winter day. They have such unique flavors, particularly all the Burmese dishes I have never had anywhere else. I've dined in, but mostly find myself getting takeout. Highly recommend trying them out! Really flavorful dinner the other night from this small-but-mighty, no frills restaurant - and super exciting to have Burmese food (nephew studied there & married a lovely Burmese woman!). The place also melds in Thai/Chinese/Japanese (I'm always super skeptical of this kind of restaurant - but this place seems to make it work; albeit - we didn't try a Japanese dish). For our takeout order, we chose the Burmese Pickled Tea Lead Salad - and hooray, what flavor! Our nephew apparently had this a lot in Myanmar and loved it. This restaurant has a fantastic, flavorful version. It's basically a super chopped salad - no traditional lettuce - w/ peanuts, garlic, broad beans & sesame seeds & light lime dressing really coming thru w/ flavor. It didn't have a traditional American "pickle" flavor at all. We then had fan favorite Chicken Coconut Curry - and WOW what flavor. I've been dreaming of that coconut curry --- thick, creamy, rich brown sauce - OH, what a favorite! The white meat giant hunks (3 total) of chicken were a smidge dry - but that sauce makes you forget that! The one dish we didn't care for was the Drinking Noodle. The veggies in it were *fabulous* - as was the sauce - but the flat rice noodles were toooo chewy. I should note - the food all held up super well for our 15-minute drive home. It was shame that restaurant wasn't busier. What a welcoming place with staff and heart warming food. The food was brought quickly and it disappeared quickly due to its exceptional taste. No 3 soup with chicken, egg noodles and coconut cream base was the one that begs to be eaten again - sick or healthy. Everyone in the group liked their food choice and mango shake. I was so happy to be able to support this unassuming restaurant with simple ambience and maybe not in the greatest location. Quality of their food begs for a pilgrimage to this restaurant. Its hard to find good asian food, let alone burmese food in the northern parts of Pittsburgh, so we were excited when we found royal myanmar. I have ordered quite a few different dishes here and I have never been disappointed. Their best things I think are the coconut chicken curry and pad thai. The curry is wonderfully sweet and has alot of depth of flavor. Also worthy of mention is the avacado shake, very very tasty. This is one of our favorite spots for take out now, Id say its even better than some of the restaurants in the heart of pittsburgh. I can only speak to the takeout, but it is very good and i highly recommend if you are looking to order out and are in the area. It's rare to find Burmese restaurants in the US. We've dined at a few in Los Angeles, but the dishes we tried at Royal Myanmar were better than the ones out west! My husband's family is from Burma so he knows good, authentic Burmese cuisine. We had the Mohinga and the Ohn no kauk swe and both were so delicious. The restaurant also serves Japanese cuisine and sushi. If we were to ever visit Pittsburgh again thus restaurant would be a must visit for their Burmese food. We only had a day in town otherwise we would have returned. The decor is mom/pop utilitarian, but it's clean and welcoming with swift and friendly service. Got three meals, fried vegetable spring rolls, and two fresh shrimp spring rolls. The shrimp and vegetable meal was overcooked and swimming in sauce. The two chicken dishes were just a bunch of panko breaded chicken cutlets served with a cheap jarred sweet chili sauce. The fried vegetable spring rolls, served with the same cheap sweet chili sauce. The fresh shrimp spring rolls barely had shrimp, was mostly romaine lettuce and served with, you guessed it, even more cheap sweet chili sauce. Not even Mae Ploy quality chili sauce. Between the bad service on the phone, the bad food, and the HIGH price of the food comparative to other Asian restaurants, I suggest you avoid this place. read more

After an exhausting day of cleaning and painting, we were starving and too tired to cook. Royal Myanmar to the rescue! We ordered online via the Yelp app and it was ready in 25 minutes. The food was absolutely delicious and the owner and staff were super great about social distancing in these pandemic days. She stood behind the counter and left our order on a table just inside the door. You pay online so that means no payment transactions, which is great too. And the food!!! Oh my ... so delicious. The spring rolls were crisp and filled with yummy goodness and the chicken satay was perfectly cooked with super delicious sauce to dip it in. We also got Kyarzan Kyaw with those thin rice noodles and the Nyat Khaukswe Kyaw with the wider rice noodles - both fantastic flavor and freshness with chicken and veggies. Of course we had to get that Samosa Thoke Salad which just blows our taste bud minds! So so good. I'm so excited we order some Pad Thai for the next day too. This place is just so awesome. A truly excellent restaurant in West View. I ordered the golden shwe ji (semolina cake), Pad Thai, tofu fritters, and fresh spring roll. Everything was reasonably priced and had great portions. The Pad Thai had both shrimp and chicken, which I always appreciate! I asked for the plate without scallions, and they honored that request. The noodles were still warm when I got them and the portion was amazing. Plenty of chicken (a few shrimps, too), but not too much. The sauce was lightly sweet and flavorful. My only criticism would be that there weren't enough peanuts, but that's a minor point. The two appetizers I got were both great. The roll is filled well with lots of veggies, and it's a great healthy option. The dipping sauce is chunkier than usual, but has a great balance of sweet and savory. The tofu fritters are delightful. Slightly spicy sauce, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. They don't have a strong flavor, but I'd say these chickpea fritters are significantly better than regular tofu fritters. Finally, I fell in love with the semolina cake. It reminded me of the dessert I had at Spice Island Tea House. The raisins were a nice touch. The portion is fantastic for just $5! Creamy, sweet, soft, and warm. Absolutely perfect. All in all, I'd return here again when in West View. In fact, I'd recommend going out of your way to drive 30 Minutes if you have to because the food is so good and they have unique menu items! Yessss! I am a fan. Royal Myanmar has been under my bookmark since two years ago, and I finally decided to come try it with one of my girlfriends. It's actually a far drive from me, but I'd said it's worth it. Especially theres very few Burmese places in Pittsburgh.. I was very satisfied after my visit. My initial thought was wow this place is small but very homey. There weren't many servers but the customer services we got was great, always make sure we have enough water and didn't rush us out after we paid. For their food, I ordered a noodle dish with chicken, I don't remember the name but it was so delicious. I asked for a spicy level 6/10.. which was definitely spicier than I expected but I love it. That is how you know a Thai or Burmese place is authentic. Lol I highly recommended this place, and will definitely return. read more

Great place to try new type of food, especially in Pittsburgh where diverse food selection seems to be quite limited. This was the first time I tried Burmese food and I've gotta say it was good and interesting. This restaurant seems quite popular, too. When we were there for dinner around 8pm, 6 of 9 tables in there were occupied. We opted for tea leaf salad, ka poew chicken (essentially kang pao chicken..but we had no idea it was kang pao chicken..so we ordered) and pickled mango curry. My husband also tried Burmese tea which was quite strong and not too sweet either (he couldn't go to sleep that night..that's how strong the tea was!). Overall, food portion was large and prices were reasonable. The food itself tasted good..though compared to Thai food that I'm used to..I'd say burmese curry tasted stronger but at the same time...food is generally blender than Thai ones, too. Nice service though and I was glad I tried it. Burmese food is definitely rare to find..even in my current hometown Seattle...so I was personally happy to get to try something new during my trip in Pittsburgh this time around! read more

Unassuming, friendly, no-frills restaurant making great Burmese food just outside of the city. The people are nice, the food is yummy, and the service is fast. I appreciate that they have a little something for everyone on the menu, and they're willing to help you choose if you're just not too sure as to what you're looking at or what might be worth digging into. The main draw for me, though, is lahpet thoke. Lahpet thoke is a fermented tea leaf salad and is difficult to find outside of the occasional large city with a Burmese population or a more expensive place that serves their own variation of the traditional dish. Royal Myanmar has a lahpet thoke on their menu, and it is delicious. I like to cut up the lettuce, squeeze on some lemon to taste, and eat it over a good portion of rice. It makes a great appetizer or a full meal if you just wanted to stop in for lunch. Worth it. read more

Pretty quiet little place out in Westview. When we went on a Friday night, there were only two other tables seated, and they ended up leaving shortly into our visit and no one else walked in. Our service was great initially but then once we received the last item of our meal, we were forgotten about and had to wait to receive the check for some time after we had finished. No checking-in, no refills, etc for the latter half of our dining experience. The menu is fairly expansive with plenty of Burmese and Thai options plus a sushi menu. The food overall was good, but nothing spectacular. It was, however, reasonable prized. The sushi we tried was very good, though, and they have a number of combo platters at a very nice price that we almost ordered. It's close enough to us and the sushi piqued our interest enough that we'll likely give it another try and hope the service is better. read more

Hard to believe this place is a block from our house and we didn't even know it. Now we're going to have a problem with access to good sushi and Thai food on a daily basis. Started with the typical house salad with ginger dressing - much more flavorful ginger than most Chinese restaurants. Followed up with two sushi rolls: rainbow and west view roll, perfectly prepared and both $10. For entrees I had the spicy basil chicken and my wife had the coconut curry with LARGE portions of chicken breast. Excellent portion sizes and absolutely delicious. Ordered a 7 on the spice scale and it was perfect for me - enough to make my nose run. Needless to say it's a hidden gem in West View. read more
