Our food took longer then expected . Their collard greens were terrible.. I make a way better batch for thanksgiving...Mac and cheese was ok fried chicken too but not for the prices ;they even switched our sides up ; unfortunately with a place like Su gar down the road whose owner is genuinely happy to see us and is a down eat in establishment and children who don't seem restless.. ORIGIN: Khalliah Murphy (aka Lady K) enjoyed cooking since…read moreshe was a little girl. After completing culinary school, Murphy started a Yonkers-based catering company, and later, in 2016, moved north to open a brick and mortar cafe -- Lady K's Southern Comfort. LOCATION: Lady K's Southern Comfort is located in a small strip mall along Violet Avenue/Route 9G. Ample parking is available. CONCEPT: Lady K's offers quintessential southern comfort food, such as rice with pigeon peas and slow cooked savory collard greens, however tastes of other culinary heritages, such as empanadas, are sprinkled across the menu. Lady K's primarily offers dishes that represent home cooked southern meals -- on site, as take out, or custom catered events. SERVICE: One thing that stands out about Lady K's Southern Comfort is the homey feeling. This extends to the service. During my weekend afternoon visit Khalliah and Shawn Murphy's daughter and son were eagerly helping (Little K and Littlest K). Although customers place their orders at the counter, I was still asked whether I liked what I had chosen. My response brought a proud smile to Little K's face! EXPERIENCE: Plates are available in three sizes, with a protein and two choice of sides. I experienced the small fried chicken with collard greens and macaroni and cheese on the side. Khalliah's family were known for their fried chicken recipe in their Bronx neighborhood, so it comes as no surprise that the chicken was expertly executed -- crisp, non-greasy exterior encasing juicy, moist interior at every bite. Complementing this was the collard greens, in which multiple flavors were married and had just the right amount of vinegary flavor. Next time I will ask for double sides of collard greens -- it's that outstanding! While multiple tables are set up for dining, Lady K's is currently primarily set up for take out. Although photos on Yelp suggest there was plated service in the past, all food is now served in compartmented styrofoam take out containers. This was my only disappointment as I feel household plates and utensils would reflect the homey dishes for those who are looking to dine in. TIPS: Check Lady K's Facebook profile for rare temporary changes in daily hours. Kool Aid is one of the beverage options. I have never seen that before in a menu and I think it's available adds to the homey aspect of the meals prepared at offered at Lady K's Southern Comfort. Kool Aid was a staple in homes in my neighborhood, and the cheerfully colored packets of flavoring powders are rarely found in grocery stores today.

The chicken looked good but I only ate 1/2 piece of the wing. (Still have me a horrible headache on the way home). Place is small but that's the least of their problems. Entire staff primarily speaks Spanish and aren't properly trained enough to even know how to take an order at your table. The poor girl tried hard to try to write down our simple order but the language barrier made it hard for her to type our order into the system. She returned to the table 5x to explain the various mistakes she made trying to put the order in. As I stood near the bar waiting to put my OWN drink order in, the young confused waitress ran over to tell me that the kitchen was out of collard greens. I smoked and substituted it for something else. 10 minutes later she arrives with my oversalted chicken and collard greens. Maybe wait a few years and try them, if they happen to stay open by some miracle.

We were chatting with Vanessa before realizing she would be singing later, and wow--she has a beautiful voice and sang some favorites like "Just the Two of Us." We ordered the fried whiting over a waffle, fried chicken with collard greens and fried okra, and shrimp and grits with a pecan coating. Portions were huge, so we took plenty home for our group of three adults and a toddler. Everything was slightly spicy, super crispy, and absolutely delicious. A small but much-appreciated touch: they brought our 2-year-old ice water with a lid without us even asking. The warm sweet potato cornbread muffins were amazing--we liked them so much we ordered some to take home. We'll definitely be back!

The building may be small but it's the perfect size for a busy kitchen and small front area to pick up great take-out food. Wow....can they put out some amazing down home southern food. They're all very friendly and welcoming and once again....man can they cook. I had the chopped BBQ, candied yams, collard greens, and cornbread. The chopped BBQ is spicy and vinegary. It didn't even need barbeque sauce, but you can get that as well. The candied yams had a spice that I couldn't figure out but it was addictive. I just wanted more. Collard greens were excellent. Cornbread was moist and tender. My wife wasn't that hungry so she ordered the Mac & Cheese. Warm, comforting, and cheesy. She loved it. My cornbread was so good that she ended up eating most of it. Couldn't ask for much more than that. Next time we order I'm going to try the Smothered Pork Chops.

The place is tiny and in a residential neighborhood, so if you blink, you'll miss it! The meal satisfied the craving (the fried whiting and collard greens were Banging!) We felt right at home and were excited to try the food. We both got the Passion Fruit Drink, highly recommend. We also ordered the pork fried dumplings (10/10 delicious) and the crispy egg rolls (also 10/10, super hot but the crunch and flavors were perfect) for our appetizers. We split the entrees, a pork bahn mi, and grilled pork with vermicelli noodles--I wish I would've taken a picture of the bowl to show how delightful it was! The bahn mi was next level in flavor, I def. Could've eaten an entire sandwich. Heads up! There isn't any parking for the restaurant itself so keep an eye out for street parking on your way.

If you are anywhere near the area, this place is an absolute must-visit. What makes this restaurant so special is not just the food, but the heart behind it. This is a true small business where you can genuinely feel the care and warmth the moment you walk through the door. The owner, Khan, was one of the sweetest and funniest people we've met in a long time. He was incredibly welcoming and full of personality. Talking with him felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like visiting a family friend's home. You can tell he pours himself into this place and truly appreciates every customer who walks in. We ordered the chicken pho and it was heartwarming. The broth was beautifully clear, light, and deeply comforting without feeling heavy or greasy. You could taste the care that went into it. The chicken was incredibly tender and soft, soaking up all the flavor of the broth, and every spoonful felt nourishing and cozy. It was the kind of pho that warms you from the inside out. I ordered the grilled tofu with egg roll over vermicelli since we just finished our walk on the Walkway Over the Hudson, and honestly, it could not have been a more perfect meal afterward. The cold vermicelli noodles were refreshing and silky, paired with crisp fresh vegetables and fragrant herbs that made the whole dish feel bright and vibrant. The grilled tofu had a delicious char on the outside while staying soft inside, and the crispy egg roll added the perfect crunch and savory richness. But the real standout was the fish sauce -- slightly sweet, salty, tangy, and filled with little bits of chili that slowly built into the perfect spicy kick. Once poured over the bowl, every bite became addictive. We also shared the pork banh mi, and it was incredible. The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside while still soft and airy inside with that satisfying crackle when you bite into it. The stewed pork was juicy, flavorful, and deeply savory, balanced beautifully with the fresh vegetables and herbs. It was one of those sandwiches where every texture and flavor came together perfectly. Even our 1.5-year-old absolutely loved the food and ended up eating one of the biggest lunches he's had in a while, which says everything. Places like this deserve all the support they can get. Amazing food, genuine hospitality, and the kind of small business experience that is getting harder and harder to find. We will absolutely be back.
