My experience was great. I enjoyed my food and I had a latte. I liked the quick service and friendly atmosphere. The bakery looked divine, so I'll have to come back soon for beignets and a cinnamon roll!

I came back to try the classic breakfast again with a biscuit and bacon. 10s across the board. It's still very clean. The grits are one of my favs. Now the biscuit is at the top of my list as well. Ammaaaazzimg ! I also collect point through the toast app. The staff were pretty nice and helpful.

What a fantastic place ! Came with a friend. Delicious food! (I had the quiche, friend got fried green tomato tartine, we split beignets). Not sure if those from NoLa would approve but to me it was definitely like a place I'd go to in the French Quarter. I sat that like I know NoLa- ha. I don't I've only been there once. But it's great NoLa inspired food. Definitely would return. Good coffee too. Lots of seating. You order at counter and they bring you food. Please patronize this yummy establishment.

We got the patty melt and beignets. Food was delicious and portions generous. The beignets were still dense and tasty even after waiting a bit to have them as dessert after our food. Early dinner on a weekday isn't very crowded at all.

Roux is different from your average diner. When you walk in it is bright and open. The bright whiteness of the space makes it look large, while the table placements give it a farm appeal. You order from a minimal menu, but the food is phenomenal! O had the Shrimp & Grits and literally cleared the plate! The Patty Melt was another staple for this establishment. The fries were crispy and the melt was well seasoned and presented. As for service, your order when you walk in and the cashier was efficient. The individual bringing to the table was on point with deliveries and the wait for your entrees was not long. When I first looked at Roux with the naked eye, I was less than impressed and decided not to ever visit; however, I'm glad I ventured in because it was worth it.

This was our second time here & that says ALOT! we try not to repeat places, but I can most definitely say that this won't be our last! The food was amazing as an all day breakfast place too! I personally am not big on breakfast, but Roux has changed my mind. The inside is clean and well decorated, I loved the platters that they used as decor. The set up is a walk up order then they will seat you. Even if the line seems long, everything went by fairly quick! I think we were only seated for 5-10 minutes before the food came out. We tried the shrimp and grits this time around, and they were delicious. The shrimp were plum,p and the grits were cheesy and so good! We also got the beignets and omg the fluffiest I have ever had! The presentation was also so well done, they sprinkled powdered sugar on the plate, but it didn't overpower the beignets, so if you wanted more sugar, you could add it. The star of the show, in my opinion, are the biscuits. They are light, fluffy, and buttery. They paired it with this semi-spicy honey that complemented it well! Definitely a must go~

My daughter says she gives it 10 stars out of 5. or 5 cat emojis. The line for counter service looked long, but it moved quickly and a host had a table ready for us. All the food was fresh and delicious. The beignets were extra yum, as was the deviled eggs.

If you're looking for a solid, cute little cozy dependable brunch with good customer service. This spot delivers without the extra flair. The shrimp and grits were the clear winner--well-seasoned with a nice, creamy texture that didn't feel overly heavy. The smashed potatoes were just alright but the croissant was surprisingly flaky for a side dish. While the cheese-to-bacon ratio in the fully loaded grits was a bit off the eggs were fluffy and the flavors were classic. It's a reliable 4-star meal that does the basics right.

I recently visited this spot and overall had a pretty nice experience. The service was great -- everyone was friendly and attentive, which made the evening enjoyable. The ambiance was really good too -- cozy, welcoming, and perfect for a casual place The food was just okay, though. Some dishes were a little on the salty side for my taste. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the rest of the experience.

This visit to Roux was much better than my last. I had shrimp & grits, which were really good, and my date had a sandwich that he also enjoyed. It looked delicious. We also tried the beignets and cinnamon rolls. Dessert was definitely my favorite part of the meal. Roux operates as more of a self-service spot. You order at the front, seat yourself, grab your own napkins and water, and even box up your leftovers yourself. The staff did a good job of clearing tables once we finished eating. The ambiance is decent, with a good amount of seating and a nice patio for warmer weather. My only complaint is that the prices feel a bit high considering the self-service model, but the food was tasty definitely an improvement from my last visit.

First Review on Yelp I was craving waffles or pancakes and needed a place that served all-day breakfast near by.. after a quick online search I found Roux! Ironically, my mom told me that the line was wrapped out the door to the restaurant earlier the same day. You order your food when you walk in, receive a number and self seat. Simple! It is a little pricey considering the self-service model, but it is what it is. It's clean inside, service is quick, and feels like your homely old diner but with that modern restaurant atmosphere. I got the shrimp and grits with a waffle on the side (you do have to ask for this directly, it's not on the menu). My mom got the fried catfish (comes with sides in the picture). Now we're not IN Louisiana, so it's not mind blowing, but it was pretty good. I do prefer my shrimp tail-off, but I didn't mind using my hands. The waffle? Put that butter and syrup on it and you tell me girl! Overall 8/10, and will be back for the beignets and chicken & waffles. Looking forward to their outdoor seating in the summer time too!

This is a nice place to visit in the Hyde park area . I always wanted to come here but parking was an issue. This morning the parking Gods were with me. The beignets are not comparable with anything in New Orleans, they are just ok. They have counter - service and that's good , especially for large parties. The line moves fast and the food comes out of the kitchen quickly. I went with my son but it's also a good place for a solo party. All in all , I'll be back because I have to try the shrimp and grits and cinnamon bun!

    Catfish and grits

Roux in Hyde Park feels like the spot you stop at when you "just want something quick" and then end up having opinions. You order first. You seat yourself. You grab your own water like you work there. The vibe is a casual cafe with quiet confidence. I got the catfish and grits with a cookie. The "catfish" came out shaped like chicken strips. My brain needed a moment. They were fried hard. Not bad, just strong. The grits did their job but didn't try to win any awards. Then I tried the cookie. Everything changed. Soft. Premium. A perfect hit of flavor. The cookie felt like something from a bakery that takes itself too seriously. I get why they run out. If someone ordered a dozen, I wouldn't judge them. Roux works when you want something light, casual, and easy. The food is fine. The cookie steals the whole show. If you go, get the cookie first. Don't play yourself.

I came in the middle of the night and that whole breakfast-for-dinner vibe hit the spot. Parking is street only, but it was easy. Seating felt a bit limited(12 or so seating across the grill) since it's colder out, but I'd definitely come back to check out their patio when the weather's nicer. The staff was super helpful with recommendations. I ended up getting the southern omelette, corned beef skillet, hot cocoa, and a short stack -- and yeah, those pancakes are a must. Everything came out hot and satisfying, perfect late-night comfort food. Perfect spot for late-night eats or when you're craving something simple and filling. I'd go back for sure.

It was busy, but luckily seats opened right when we walked in so we were able to be seated right away. Diner Grill is no frills with just a bar, barstools, and a view into the small kitchen. Prices on the menu are very fair for the quantity and quality of the food. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my husband ordered chilaquiles w/ chorizo. After you order, you see your order made right in front of you. My husband especially loves the chilaquiles because of how crispy and fresh they are (he doesn't like soggy chips!) and argues Diner Grill has some of the best. I was impressed with my breakfast burrito and enjoyed it! When the staff sees you winding down, they bring the bill; this is an eat and go kind of spot. We both got orange juices (LARGE glasses, we'll share one next time) and that plus our entrees ran us about $20pp with tax and tip. Very reasonable in my opinion! Overall I really enjoyed my meal and will be back at Diner Grill!! Love how close it is to home and perfect for a good hangover breakfast/late night snack as they're open 24/7.

I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.
