I was a customer of Roup Dental for several years after moving into the North Austin area. I was satisfied and gave Roup high marks. Unfortunately the Roups have retired from the practice. The subsequent dentist I had contact with was very aggressive, pushy, and not interested in listening to me. I've since changed to another Round Rock dentist. The Roups were a great family dentistry practice but the follow-on is not so much in my opinion. read more

I have been coming to see Dr Roup (Robert) since around 2008. The hygienists (I have had three different ones) and dr are really nice. They are professional and courteous. Their old location at Louis Henna was very convenient to my work and I was actually referred by many of my coworkers to check them out. I had a bad experience at Castle Dental so I was needing somebody reliable that cared about my dental health and is not trying to rush me out or charge me for services I do not need. Then around a couple of years ago I receive multiple reports from people who used to go to Roup Dental stop seeing this dr. I was surprised that they did not have the same experience as I did. After the move to 620 the following things have occurred that has dropped a star from them: 1. I had to miss an appointment since I was very ill. They were cool about it and we're not trying to hit me up with a late cancellation fee since I had not had any issues in the past. 2. Since I missed my routine appointment I requested an appointment on their website. Weeks later no response. I tried calling them ...no answer so I left a voicemail...no callback whatsoever! This is very unusual because at the other location the front desk staff were very personable and always answered. I had to keep calling them until I finally talked to somebody to get back on the books. Once I was able to make it in I have not had that issue again, because the hygienist checks you out now and schedules your next appointment for you. There is no need to go to the front desk on your way out. 3. No communication with the front desk. As I mentioned, before they moved to 620, their front desk staff was very personable and friendly. Today when I walked in I was asked for my name and then was told that I would be checked in and to have a seat. That blows my mind because all of the healthcare places ask if your address has changed or if you had a change of insurance. To give them the benefit of doubt, maybe they already called in advance to get the pre-authorization, but if I have not spoke to them in six months I feel a lot can change. I am used to healthcare places requesting that during the check in process. Come to think about it, I did not hear them answering any phone calls while I was there. They were on the phone but calling health insurance companies and not talking to clients. 4. Reminders- I appreciate their email and text reminders. We get busy so it's convenient to have them! I will continue to be cared by Roup Dental as I said the hygienists and Dr Roup has always been so kind and friendly. read more

Unless the practice changes their front office staff, I would suggest finding another dentist. I was looking for a new dentist and went to see Doctor Roup because of the good reviews. My personal experience was terrible, because of the unprofessional front office staff on repeated interactions. Prior to the visit: My previous dentist told me the new dentist would need to request the records, so I gave Roup Dental staff the info for my previous dentist and asked that they call me once the records was transferred so I could schedule an appointment. I waited for over a week. No calls from Roup Dental. I called back only to find that they did not call my previous dentist when they said they would. During the visit: It was a quick 10-15 minute check and Dr. Roup seemed like a genuinely nice person. I have the Aetna Savings Card but was still charged the full price for a comprehensive oral evaluation since the staff was confused and needed to call Aetna. I was told that either I could wait for 20 minutes or pay first and I would be given a call that afternoon and receive a refund to my card once they get the info from Aetna. I had to go back to work so I left, which was a huge mistake in hind sight. No calls from Roup Dental when they said they would. After the visit: I called Roup Dental and was told by the staff that they did not get the fee schedule from Aetna. I called Aetna, and was told that Roup Dental had not requested a fee schedule. I gave Aetna Roup Dental's fax and asked Aetna to send the fee schedule. I called Roup Dental again the same week and was told that they still did not get the fee schedule. I gave them the Aetna direct line to request the fee schedule and was told that they would call. Yesterday, as a safety measure, I called Aetna again to ask them to re-fax the fee schedule to Roup Dental. Aetna said they would fax the fee schedule within 15 minutes. I was asked why I was calling for the fee schedule instead of the dental office. I wish I knew... Today, which is a week after the visit, I called Roup Dental and Carla answered the phone, who went on to tell me the first lie that there's no Aetna Vital Savings discount for the procedure I had, which was comprehensive oral evaluation. She said I would get future discounts for other services. The second lie she told was that the office was not in network. I called Aetna and confirmed that I should receive from Roup Dental a $46 discount for the specific procedure and that Roup Dental is under contract for Aetna Vital Savings, so in network. The person at Aetna called Roup Dental on my behalf regarding the discount and Carla told her the 3rd lie that she did not have the fee schedule and would give me the discount once she gets the fee schedule. This did not make sense given what she told me 5 minutes earlier. I told the person at Aetna that I was told the same thing last week before Aetna faxed Roup Dental the fee schedule twice. The Aetna person told me maybe I should go see a different dentist if I was having this much trouble with Roup Dental honoring the fee schedule that they have with Aetna. That's the best advice I received all week, which I intend to follow. If there's a remote possibility that you would need to interact with the front office staff for billing, I sincerely recommend that you go see a different dentist and save yourself the pain that I went through because no dentist visit is worth this much trouble. read more

I had an emergency dental need (a piece of my tooth broke off), and I searched around for somewhere close by with good reviews. I'm glad I went here. They fit me in same day. I was fully expecting to need a crown and possibly a root canal, but was thrilled when the dentist was able to fix everything within an hour with a simple filling. I was so relieved to only spend $275 instead of the expected $2500. They handled it perfectly, too. No upsells. No criticism of my dental hygiene. No comments on my three existing crowns. The hygienist was very nice and accommodating. I hate going to the dentist normally, and was NOT excited about this visit. It really was a breath of fresh air. No long waits. Well on Thursday night my temporary crown popped out. They'd given me some glue to put it back on but of course we managed to mess that up pretty quickly. And guess who's closed on Fridays? I called the office anyway. The voice mail message said if I had a TRUE. DENTAL. EMERGENCY. to call a number. Was this an emergency? I actually debated with myself if I should call or not for about an hour and a half. I wasn't in pain. But I didn't want to mess things up. But I didn't want to bother them with a non-emergency! But...but..What do I do?? I did call another dentist's office just to ask what they thought I should do. They were really nice about it. Told me I should find a way to get that crown put back on because any change to the shape of the tooth underneath would alter how well the permanent crown would fit. They suggested I call that number. So I did. It was Dr. Roup (the husband's) voice mail so I left a message that I'm sure sounded rambling and silly. He called me back within about fifteen minutes, said he was in the office for a meeting anyway and to just come by if I could within the next hour. Well, heck I'm right around the corner so I was there in ten minutes. He was so incredibly nice. Not grumpy, not judgy, just happy that he was already there to take care of it. I realize I'm a outlier here, and I wish I would have had the same positive experience that so many of the patients have had. I have zero issues with the doctors. They are courteous, professional, and they have a beautiful new office with all the bells and whistles that make you feel like you're getting the best care possible. My issue is with the front office. It takes me WEEKS to get a hold of anyone to get answers to questions about insurance or to make an appointments. I've sent emails that have gone unanswered for more than a month. In fact, as of the writing of this review, I am waiting on a question on my insurance that started with an email on June 8th. That's TWO MONTHS. I still have not received an answer. This is not acceptable, and if email communication is not part of their policy, than they shouldn't use it at all. They can not pick and choose when to use email as a communication method with patients. So while I love their new office and the professionalism of the dentists, I cannot bring my business here due to the impossibility of communicating with the office staff. read more

My dental insurance changed so I had to change Dentists. I picked the Roup's because of their location. I had very good customer service. The dental hygienist was not rough in my mouth, and Dr. Roup (the husband) was very pleasant. I like that they open at 7AM. A good dental visit is one where you don't have any surprises when you pay and where they don't try to sell you on every conceivable cosmetic dental procedure imaginable. I've only been here twice for routine cleanings, but I would recommend this place to anyone in the area. A few months ago, I tried to request a new patient appointment via their website, but no one ever contacted me... so I called and made an appointment. Easy enough, but not a great start. I think it was 2-4 weeks out from the time of my call, so don't expect to get in same day or next. This type of wait is normal for a small dentist's office. If you want to get in sooner rather than later, try a larger, chain dental office. They give patients so many reminders, which is nice if you're the type of person that is forgetful. I received a phone call, text, AND email to remind me of my most recent appointment. The office amenities are great. The waiting area is comfortable, contemporary, and tastefully decorated -- more like a salon than a dentist's office. There is a window for natural light, a coffee station, and lots of seating with a small, unobtrusive TV. I have never waited for longer than 5-10 minutes for an appointment. The exam area itself also has a small TV. The room is semi-private with a partition wall that blocks the chair from view, but is open on both sides to allow for ease of access for dental staff. There is also a window in the exam room, bringing in more natural light. My dental hygienist was very friendly and competent. They offer "sunglasses" to protect your eyes from debris, etc. during cleaning. I've only ever met the female Dr. Roup, but she is always very friendly as well. My routine cleaning took less than 45 minutes. The hygienist walked me out to the waiting area and explained that they would just bill my insurance. I plan to see them again for my next check up! read more

I have been going to Roup Dental for about 8 years. I discovered them by accident, when they were located on Louis Henna. Thought I would give them a try, and turns out their the Best Dentists in Texas! I would'nt dare go to another Dentist! I've heard horror stories from friends and family of all the disasters that can go wrong by going to the wrong dentist! They would not do any kind of dental work on you, that they would not do on their own kids! Me and my three children all go to Roup Dental. When my daughter, who was about 10 years old at that time, needed to get a filling, never once did she feel any discomfort. I thought WOW she's more brave than me! When I was a little girl, I always had a fear of the dentist, because it hurt when I had to have a cavity filled. If you have fear of going to the Dentist, I highly recommend Roup Dental! Changed insurance and needed to find a new dentist, Roup Dental was highly rated on my new plan. Conveniently located in Round Rock on 620, nice building, nice office, nice staff. Nice on the phone when making the appointment. Appointment availability within the week. They email you new patient paperwork that you can fill out & sign electronically rather than sitting in the office handwriting out a form. Wasn't left waiting in the waiting room for my appointment. The Dentist at Roup (at least I can speak for the wife Roup, never met the husband half) is fantastic. I saw her for a cleaning and checkup a while back and was impressed with the office equipment, and her wonderful warm and caring personality. The office staff, I was not as impressed with - and unfortunately due to this I am finding a new dentist. 1. I was told that they would contact me to get an estimate of my out-of-pocket expenses I would incur for some upcoming work. I was never contacted. Not once. 2. I was sent a bill for 8 dollars with no explanation. I had to call, which they promptly said they'd remove, but still....I had to find time to call them to deal with it. Hassle. 3. I called to make another appointment for a checkup, and the next available appointment was over a month out. I can deal with this, I recognize they are busy. 4. The day comes for my appointment, and I get a call 10 minutes prior to appointment saying they need to cancel because someone in the office called out sick. Again, I understand things happen but they need to have a better backup plan. I had taken off work and rearranged some things to acommodate this appointment, and it wasn't easy. She offered to reschedule but said it would take weeks to get back in? Ok now, I'm not happy because you'd think they'd squeeze me in a bit sooner given the circumstance of THEM cancelling. While the dentist herself was great and the location seemed good for me, I'm going to find another place to go. Too much hassle with the office staff. read more

The dentist seemed competent and personable, and I'm not knocking him. However, the young woman who handles the front desk is one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. I've had drill sergeants treat me with more respect as a private than this woman. I'm now middle-aged, and have awesome insurance, yet the front desk treats you with contempt. I guess business is so good that they can afford to treat their patients as cattle. Well, this bull is heading elsewhere for his dental work. Also, just before my wife and I decided to drop Roup dental, our insurance company contacted us referencing a charge that they (the insurance company) had already paid for, yet we too (my wife and I) had been billed and paid for the same procedure. When we tried to inquire about why we too paid for a procedure that had already been paid for by our insurance, the attitude came to the surface at light speed. The young woman behind the front desk started a song and dance about the type of filling I had received. Obviously we were speaking different languages, because I just wanted to know why I paid for a procedure that was already paid for by my insurance. I explained to her that I wanted to be reimbursed! She then tried blaming it on "the new girl" and how busy they've been. Trying to make a long story shorter, bottom line, after about a month, we did eventually get reimbursed. However, there was no explanation, no apology, no nothing. Well, you now no longer have my business. It just makes me wonder. Was this an honest mistake, or is this office double dipping the insurance company and the patients? read more

I am so disappointed with Roup Dental. I have been a patient for years and on my last cleaning I was told I need a deep cleaning because of deep pockets on my gums and the out of pocket was going to be $800+. I am lucky to be able to travel to my home country and get a professional second opinion with a dentist specialized in gums. With the $800 I was able to buy round trip tickets, spend time with my family for a week and also have a night guard made. I end up not needing more than a good cleaning and double my floss routine to strengthen my gums. Even though this happened, I gave Roup Dental a second chance, because I considered a mistake is human. I have been having discomfort on a molar and I need to get the filling checked. But oh my surprise when after two calls without answer Leanne tells me that I need proof I had the procedure they recommended was done or to get it done. Then I asked if I could have my dental records sent to me and she said we might have to charge you and I cannot send them now because I need approvals, and we are close tomorrow and next week is Thanksgiving... I am very sad to have to find a new dentist. But just because of this two issues I will recommend you find another dentist and save yourself a headache down the row. read more

It's scary moving to a new place. It's especially scary to find a good dentist. I've had the full gamut--from those who "found" cavities just to charge me (even though the next dentist I saw inevitably didn't find any) to one who sprayed me with water and soaked my entire shirt. I've had great dentists, too, the ones who make you feel at home and only treat the necessary. I was looking for the latter when I moved here. Today, I saw Dr. Robert Roup at Roup Dental and I have nothing but the nicest things to say about him and his staff. I arrived 15 minutes late to my appointment due to bad (BAD) traffic on Round Rock Ave. His staff went to work immediately to get as much as they could done before the office closed. They went ahead and booked me for another appointment the next day over my lunch to finish the cleaning. It wasn't needed. And I didn't feel like I was getting shoddy treatment; they were thorough and mindful while cleaning my teeth, explaining everything they were seeing and all concerns about my future needs. And NICE. Despite my being really late, everyone was SO nice to me. Dr. Roup is friendly, thorough, and goes over everything with you. His staff was upfront with me about every additional cost and checked to see what my insurance would cover. Best part about this, no pressure to buy anything. They gave me all of the information I need to do my homework and make a decision. While some dentists take this situation and make it feel very high pressure "salesy," that DID NOT happen here. How refreshing! It's such a relief to be new to the area and already have found a dentist I trust. Really, really glad I didn't have to do the usual try 3, or 4, or however many it takes sometimes to find a good one. read more

I have been frequenting Roup Dental for some 5ish years now. I cannot tell you how happy I was to *finally* find a good Dental place in Austin after having tried so many different places in Round Rock/Austin. I never felt once that they tried to scam me for treatment I didn't really need (wish I could say that about the other places). The front desk staff especially (the likes of folks like Landen) make scheduling/re-scheduling, checkin/checkout, billing a breeze. My husband and I have been patients of the Roups for almost three years. We had been with Rose Dental for several years and while we'd never had a problem, I always felt like I was at a used car lot and they were trying to sell me undercoating. The Roups don't do this. My husband had a hot tooth several months ago; I called at 11:45 and they said they could see us at noon. I was floored that they could actually see us for an emergency that quickly! I see Kimberly Roup and she's adorable and personable and professional. The ladies at the front desk are always polite and helpful, and I rarely have to wait more than five minutes to go back. terrible... dr roup is fine but his billing is a complete fraud... for (2) annual cleanings I asked for services only covered under my insurance.. both times I was billed for x-rays not covered... when I called they said it was for a filling that was done... the second time they said the billing was for me and it was actually for my wife and not my charge... and that charge for her was for a routine cleaning but they did x-rays again after being asked to only provide services that were covered... either by total incompetence or fraud they billed us for services we specifically asked not to be done... and rude and argumentative when I called to get this mess resolved... so we are done with Roup and will not go back... read more

Dr. Robert Roup is the best Dentist I have ever experienced! He is a very VERY nice person. He is extremely friendly and pleasant. It doesn't feel like you are going to a Dentist, he makes you feel very much at home. I was in so much PAIN, because I needed a Root Canal. He immediately made me feel better. He gave me the choice of going to a Specialist or allowing him to perform the root canal, and because he made me so comfortable, I let him help me. My tooth was in very bad shape, but I did eventually feel better. I was a regular patient for the short period of time I lived in Texas, and I would never ever have considered going to another Dentist. He is REALLY GOOD - no exaggeration. I think it is awesome that he is a family man and his wife works there as a Dentist, as well. I mean Dr. Roup is gorgeous and you can tell that he has strong values. I'm also happy that they are able to have 3 days off. Trust me, Dr. Robert Roup deserves those days off. He is pretty awesome as a Dentist and a person. I think he deserves some type of Award for his work and how he treats his customers. I sent him a letter stating that I would nominate him if an award existed. read more

My permanent crown (that the wife dentist put on not even a year ago) fell out on Sat afternoon while eating Mac N Cheese...REALLY. I immediately looked up their info on the computer called the number got their "emergency" number and left a message. I STILL have not gotten a call back and it's Mon. 2;1 am. I tried messaging them through their website however it came back saying they were over their quota, whatever that means. By the time my Husband returned Sat. about 3 hours after it happened, I was in tears. So, He started calling the "emergency" number and after the second time leaving a message, the Husband dentist returned his calls. Told my Husband to get some clove oil, but didn't bother telling him it's marketed under it's active ingredient, Eugenol, he had to go to 4 stores to find that out, and for me to try and put it back on with temporary glue, which we also had to buy. And if I can't get it on to call back because he is out of town, but would be back in Austin Sun. at noon. Well it is my very back molar on the top, and there is no way I can hold it and try to get it on let alone try and see what I was doing! So, my Husband called back before midnight and left a message stating that I would definitely need him on Sun. when he got home. And just in case my Husband called again at about 10 am. And then again at 2pm, and we NEVER received a call back!! I am dehydrated and absolutely starving and in pain! I think this is horrible that no one is actually on call, they do not have a service to answer true emergencies, and no one on stand-by when they are out of town, some Doctors they are. Don't Dentists learn and supposed to uphold the Hippocratic oath?? And don't even get me started on the two times I had appointments and am sitting in their office waiting to be called back and after an hour am told that the Husband dentist wasn't even there and not coming in and then was given a lame excuse as to why. I went to Dr. Robert Roup he came highly recommended from Dr. Monts. I think I went about a year ago. The #1reason why he told me to go to him because he sent his parents there and they both had a great experience, and #2 Dr. Monts is really good about numbing and he knows that I take more than others and he wanted me to go to someone who was good at doing this. When i went there office staff was very sweet. I loved the girl that did my deep cleaning.As for Dr. Robert Roup there is NOTHING bad to say. he numbed me up and he was gentle. I went to Castle Hills and had a horrible experience. My teeth have issues no doubt but they made me feel really guilty there about it. He didn't say anything mean and is just a nice person. I've been going to Dr Rob Roup for about 5 years. He's very warm & friendly and takes the time to explain everything that's going on with your teeth. On the occasions where he's found more than one cavity, he'll prioritize them for me so that I can get one filled this insurance year and one the next. I like that he's not trying to up sell me on items either. There are signs in the office advertising whitening specials, but I never have to hear a sales pitch. Also I've often needed adjustments on fillings after I leave, as I guess I can never tell how high I'm hitting until I go home and eat something. Anyway, they are always able to get me right back in and do a quick adjustment. In and out in 15 min. Can't beat that. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that they referred me to a periodontist a few years ago to fix some recession I had (took a year and 3 graftings to fix), and I got used to seeing the periodontist's hygienist. Well she was really thorough, the best deep cleaning ever, so when I went back to having my teeth cleaned at the Roup's it just never felt as clean as with the other hygienist. read more

I've been going to Roup for 4 years. These people know how to run a practice. To start with, they're pleasant, polite, and totally competent. I've been treated by both dentists and on every occasion they've been friendly, thorough, gentle, and quick. The hygienists and entire staff are great. They give accurate estimates and answer insurance questions capably. They also tell me just what I need, when, and how much it will cost. They have their website set up so I can schedule my appointments online or arrange to have someone call me to schedule it (and they do, promptly.) I take advantage of their email reminders and texts (which allow you to confirm your appointment by a reply text - love. it.) Since I started being seen there, I've moved farther south in Austin and they've moved farther north in Round Rock, but I continue to make the drive because it's such an excellent practice. read more

I have been disappointed in trying to find a dentist in Austin area for years. I went to another dentist for a crown that was bothering me and it was ok but the office communication was not good and ended up costing me extra visits. They did the crown and told me another tooth needed a root canal which they don't do. I searched on yelp and talked to a neighbor that uses Roup dental for years. I had to wait to get in at my tight schedule, but it was worth the wait. The front office was great, they communicated and scheduled with no problems. The assistant I got was friendly and did a great job during the procedure, I didn't feel like I was drowning or in discomfort. Dr Roup was awesome, explained the procedure great, gave me options and was not rushed or pushy. During the root canal he and the assistant made sure I was comfortable and pain free(even gave me headphones for the t.v) The procedure was quick and painless, and from shopping around about $400-$800 cheaper than other dentists I called. It is nice to find a Dentist that is family fun not corperate and pays attention to the details. read more
