Somehow, magically, I have no cavities since starting to go to this practice. We have since moved out of the area, and I still make the drive from several zip codes away to go to Brushy Creek Dentistry for my family's 6 month cleaning.

Recently, I went through the lengthy process of getting an implant, and Dr. J definitely had his work cut out for him. I'm incredibly grateful to now have the space filled with a permanent solution, and I already feel less insecure when speaking with people. While I don't love the shape of the implant (we're always our own worst critics), I fully understand and truly believe that the best possible job was done with what he had to work with. Expecting a perfectly symmetrical result after so much time had passed simply wasn't realistic. Since my very first visit, I have referred--and will continue to refer--everyone I know to Brushy Creek. Thank you, Dr. J and team, for being so patient, compassionate, and fantastic at what you do!

Erica, my hygienist, educated me on my gum health, and noticed signs of wear on my teeth due to clenching; which I imagine I do when I'm sleeping. Erica took photos of each tooth, measured my gums, and validated that my oral hygiene practices at home are on par. During my examination, we saw signs of decay, and there was enough time in the schedule for me to start the process of placing a crown on my tooth. From the moment Dr. James numbed me to the moment my temporary crown was placed, I was treated with the utmost care. The team remembered my son, who visited not too long ago, and were as joyful and relatable as can be. They even offered me a cozy blanket during my procedure! I mean, who does that? Pecan Park Family Dentistry does! All in all, though it was my first time at their practice, I was made to feel like family. Like I was being taken care of by my girlfriends, and I am beyond grateful to have crossed paths with them!

After more than 10 years with this practice, I'm incredibly disappointed to be writing this…read more I'm autistic, and like many neurodivergent people, I struggle with scheduling and making it to appointments. I want to be clear: I am already deeply aware of this, and I feel embarrassed and awful when it happens. Nothing feels worse than standing at the garage door with my keys in hand, frozen, shaking, overwhelmed, and filled with guilt. This isn't carelessness or laziness, it's something I actively work to manage. I also understand that missed appointments affect a business, and I am willing to accept financial penalties when appropriate. I appreciate that Pecan Park Dental has waived some missed appointment fees for me in the past. However, my most recent experience felt shaming and dismissive of my disability, and I left in tears. The morning of a scheduled appointment, I was called and told my insurance would not cover the visit because I had hit my maximum. I was told I would need to pay $540 out of pocket for a routine cleaning. I could not afford that and chose to reschedule for a future date when my insurance would cover it. At that time, I was told I would still be charged a $100 late cancellation fee, even though this cost was only communicated to me the morning of the appointment. When I returned months later for the rescheduled visit, I tried to explain that this situation resulted from an insurance and communication issue. Instead of working with me, I was repeatedly pressured in the waiting room to pay the $100 fee. I explained multiple times that I did not have the money that day. I was asked for credit card information over and over, in front of my daughter and other patients. It was humiliating. I ended up crying in the office while still being asked for payment. When I later tried to explain the situation, I was sent a chart of my missed appointments. It felt less like an attempt to understand and more like an effort to reinforce guilt. That approach isn't helpful, it adds to the shame and makes it even harder to access care. Experiences like this are exactly why many neurodivergent people avoid healthcare altogether. It becomes easier to avoid appointments than to face anxiety, shame, and financial penalties. I don't believe this is about bad intent, but it reflects a system that prioritizes policies and revenue over patient-centered care and basic compassion. After more than a decade as a loyal patient, and bringing multiple family members to this practice, I expected more understanding and professionalism. Because of this experience, I will be moving my care, along with my family's care, to a different provider. I hope this practice reflects on how it communicates with and supports patients, especially those with anxiety, autism, or other neurodivergent needs. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking care

After going to a couple of places who tried to upsell me - I know that sounds crazy right? Like I get a waiter upselling, but a dentist? Yep, one insisted I needed a new crown and super expensive procedure because the tip of an instrument broke off when it was put in - 15 years prior. It had never bothered me. Happily the second opinion agreed, there was no reason to go through all of that pain and expense. 5 years later, it is still fine. Dr. Baker is friendly - but cuts to the chase. Tells you like it is. You feel like you can trust him to tell you the good and the bad. His staff is professional, friendly, and super loyal to him. That says a lot about him as a dentist, a business owner, and a human.

And I didn't know it was possible to not feel any pain or soreness for a filling--not even during the injection or any part of the treatment. He was that gentle. I truly can't recommend him more.

The staff is hospitable and make appointments flexible. The Dentists are beyond amazing at what they do and couldn't be anymore professional at their jobs. I've avoided dental work for several years even with excruciating pain from a broken tooth. After my wonderful experience at Groovy Dental I've been back several times, I've brought my son ,daughter and my wife because of the stress free approach they offer. Groovy Dental has an outstandingly clean office. The procedure rooms are bright and airy and they always have upbeat music playing or an option to watch something on screens they have conveniently placed above the procedure chairs. The office feels very comfortable and welcoming plus smells great. They work hard to make you feel at ease no matter how nervous you are. Billing has also been a breeze in my experience here and they always give you plenty of options when it comes to getting a procedure that fits your budget yet still gives you the best quality of life. Meaning they won't leave you with unnecessary complications or do anything that will compromise quality and comfort. They don't suggest dental work that is unnecessary and execute their procedures timely and effectively. If you squirm and scream or move a lot keep in mind that's on you no one is going to strap you down and force you to cooperate. But if you relax and listen everything will go well and you'll be out sooner. Since coming to Groovy dental I've had a deep cleaning , a tooth pulled and several fillings. I've never felt as comfortable as I do here. I hope that if your thinking about coming back to the dentist after a long time transferring from another office or moving to the area from out of town you can trust that you will not be disappointed with my recommendation. Groovy Dental is located rite next to Thai Lada at 8701 W. Parmer Ln Suite 1124 Austin Tx 78729 . Their number is (512)648-2322. Business hours: Mon -Fri .9am-5pm accept Thursday which is 9am-1pm!
