The technician talked way too much and told me about all her kids before we even got started. I was there for over an hour and was not able to get what I originally went in for, a routine teeth clean because I had two teeth that were considered in the red. They wanted to charge me almost $400 to deep clean my teeth and it would have to be done in two separate sessions. Are they planning on doing every other tooth, left then right, or top then bottom? it made no sense to me that I would have to pay $400 dollars when only 2 of my teeth qualify as needing a dep clean and all my other do not. I have going to Advanced Smile for a couple year. I bought a dental policy years ago which covers cleaning every 6 months and X-rays once a year. I got my teeth cleaned Wednesday and as I was leaving they told me I owed $64. I told them that my insurance covers cleaning.. They said my insurance company is not in their network anymore and because of that they only paid half. Then they said maybe I need to change insurance companies. I was just disgusted. read more

The main reason I agreed was her direct assurance that the treatment was 100% covered by my dental insurance. ​This information was inaccurate. I've been going to ADS for a couple years now, and they've always been great. Today they showed themselves as superior. Yesterday I found myself with a growing dental emergency. Throughout the night the pain was becoming more and more intense. So when 6 am rolled around (when they open) I was one of the first ones through their doors. I didn't know what else to do. Let me be clear, they do not take walk-ins or emergency patients. I was not following the rules. They could've easily just said, Sorry Charlie and send me to find an emergency dentist. But the kind folks took pity on me. They took me back to at least get an idea of what was wrong. I'd take it! Anything! I just needed the pain to stop. They took two types of X-rays and found that a 25 year old root canal had finally failed and I had a bad infection. I was lucky that someone cancelled and Dr Hughes happened to have availability at that moment. He asked me if I wanted to extract the tooth and I couldn't sign the quote fast enough. It was an extremely reasonable. I would've paid 4x that at an out of network emergency dentist. It may seem strange that I'm writing such a glowing review about such a painful event. I was initially impressed by the close knit group of dentists and hygienists back in their earlier days and have remained so as they have grown, gotten a larger and newer team of hygienists and receptionists, and moved into a brand new larger space nearby their original office. This is the best dentist in Austin and I've tried so many of them. Dr. Laubach is the most gentle, thoughtful dentist I've ever had and she has a special technique for administering novocaine that I've never had another dentist use, but it's virtually painless. She checks in more than any other dentist I've gone to, despite causing the least amount of actual pain. At my last dental appointment, they got me in 20 minutes early and fixed my problem painlessly in less than an hour for a fraction of what it would cost to get an implant. Other dentists in town have ruthlessly upsold me or done xrays and cleanings in two separate appointments (why???) and this place keeps saving me literal thousands of dollars!! I saw another review say they drive 30 minutes to get to this practice and I'm in the same boat, I've tried other dentists close to me and they don't even compare, not just to the experience but the cost as well. Switched to these lady dentists several years ago after being taken for a ride by some unscrupulous dentist at a famous practice on MoPac near Far West. They are super friendly and honest. They don't push for crowns you don't need and refer you outside for root canals. By the way, don't ever let a regular dentist do a root canal on you, unless you like to be in pain and have to pull the tooth he messed up during the root canal. Aug. 20, 2024 My visit this week was very quick as I was there to get a permanent crown set. Although I arrived a little early, the assistant brought me right back to the patient room so I didn't have any wait time. She got started right away removing the temporary crown on the molar I had had a root canal on on a few weeks before. Dr. Julie Eivens popped in to make sure all was going well and came back in a few minutes when it was time to set the crown. Bing, bang, done! The crown fit perfectly and they didn't even need to adjust any surfaces after checking my bite alignment. It was a great visit. I recommend Advanced Smiles and Dr Julie. read more

Advanced Smiles is not for people who pinch pennies. They required over $1000 to do an advanced cleaning claiming that my decay was too advanced. They refused to do a standard cleaning ($200something quoted) claiming that they would be legally and ethically abating harm if they did a standard cleaning. It doesn't make sense to me that cleaning someone's teeth that needs a cleaning would be harmful. I refused the $1000+ cleaning, paid for my xrays, and decided I would have to find someone else to clean my teeth. I was in the middle of moving when I finally got my Advanced Smiles appointment, and it was months later before I got an appointment with another dentist to give me a normal cleaning. I don't think being refused a scheduled cleaning helped my oral health. Another crack in the veneer was that the dental assistant had offered me a sample of the floss that they talked up. On my way out, I realized I hadn't gotten that sample and asked for it at the front desk. They checked and the response was that no free samples are available. Financial practices aside, they seem very competent. Dr. Laubach had previously done a great job fixing a cracked tooth just the way I wanted. Someone I know recommended Advanced Smiles to me, and said they accepted insurance for cleaning and did a great job. Seems like one of these places that would be an excellent fit for someone willing to pay a lot for friendly people, fancy office, and a high level of dental and cosmetic work. read more
