Highly recommend Dr. Natasha Mulko-Scheufele for a root canal! I have severe anxiety and had been dreading & putting off this procedure for two years. Dr Scheufele and her assistant Lacy were both very understanding & kind. They provided a neck pillow to make me more comfortable & didn't position the chair all the way back which freaks me out. Lacy kept me updated about what was going on during the procedure. I never felt any pain. *Tip* bring earphones & favorite tunes to mask sounds. I was just settling into my playlist when it was OVER! My experience here was bad, and I don't say that just because I'm grumpy I had to get a root canal. I have seen how easy it can be to provide good care that makes an unpleasant medical procedure a breeze, and this office is not it. This practice is disorganized, lacking compassion, unprofessional and uncaring. The shining star and exception to this review is Paloma, who was the dental assistant during my procedure. She was confident, calm and seems to be the only person at this office who could see patients as individuals with their own needs and not just names on a screen. A couple of things that have influenced my desire to leave a review for this business: 1. During my consultation, they left the practice calendar of all patients to be seen that week and their complaints viewable to me. I could see my name, when the doctor had his calendar blocked for personal appointments and all the other people to be treated. This seems like a massive violation of patient privacy to me. 2. During my wait before my appointment, I overheard office staff talk about screening calls of patients they didn't feel like talking to. During the numbing process, I told the doctor I almost always needed more local anesthetic than the first round provides and he said that was ok and he would do 2 rounds. When he went to do the second round, I had put my headphones in but still overheard him say that I was already numb and didn't even feel the second pass at local anesthetic. I did feel it and let him know that; his response "well its good we did the second round then." The example of it being ok to talk about patients when you think they can't hear you is being set from the top down. 3. I was told that I had to pay for my procedure at the time of service. No one took payment ahead of service, and when I came out from my procedure, everyone in the office staff had gone home (the practice was still open). I then received several calls, voicemails and an email requesting payment ASAP; on one voicemail they made a comment about calling my regular dentist to tell them I hadn't paid for services--really nice. I work a regular 9-5 job that I can't just take personal calls at anytime I want; I was ready to pay for service last week but no one was there to take it. This office does not offer the same flexibility to patients that they expect for their own bad behavior. 4. The numbers I was quoted for services varied widely from interaction to interaction. When I was emailed an invoice, the amount to be paid was $1,300, but when I called to pay my balance, I was told $1,385; I asked why my balance wasn't the $1,300 I was emailed and was told "OK, we'll do $1,300." Should I need to fact check my doctor's offices that random fees aren't being added? In conclusion, it's not lost on me that we all can become desensitized to the work that we do day in and day out; however, if you are the provider of an expensive and high-stress medical treatment, you simply cannot handle your job with the nonchalance of a disengaged checker at Target. read more

I'm pleased to see things seem to have improved. My root canal three years ago was six hours of claustrophobic hell followed by months on ibuprofen. I was never offered nitrous and when I asked during my second appointment, they didn't have nitrous in the treatment room. Oh well, never mind, seemed to be the doctor's mindset. Not recommended - Requires unnecessary services before treatement despite primary dentist referral. My dentist determined that I needed a root canal and I made an appointment with Dr. Simon's office at ATX Round Rock. 2 days prior to my appointment they called with an estimate - almost $900 AFTER insurance. I told them something isn't right because they are an in-network PPO provide and the negotiated rate per my insurance website is $864, 50% of which the insurance would may. So my share should be $432 plus my $50 annual deductible. Only then did they disclose that the fee includes a required consultation and tests. I told them that my dentist identified that I needed a root canal (via X-Rays and drilling into the tooth) and referred me. They said they wanted to run tests to make sure that the tooth isn't fractured. Uhm... A $10 bitewing will show that. And my dentist can send over the X-Rays they took. I told her I didn't need $400 of consultations and tests and just wanted the root canal my dentist stated I needed. She told me that they would not do it without me having the consultation and tests. Luckily I wasn't in severe pain so I cancelled and went to another provider. But I wondered how many people in severe pain that were referred by their dentist will pay for the unnecessary consultiation and tests simply because they don't want to be in pain any longer than they have to be. I'm giving them two stars instead of one because at least they told me the ridiculous amount they wanted to charge before the appointment rather than me having to argue it after. read more

I was recommended for a possible root canal by my primary dental office. After an evaluation visit, Dr. Simon worked on my root canal. My tooth had a lot of issues in the past (cavity and a crown) so the root canal didn't go as planned on the first visit. Dr. Simon rescheduled me for a second visit. He was super patient, put in the extra time, and worked out the issues with my root canal, including overcoming the calcification, without causing further complications. He took x-rays pre and post job to ensure everything looked good. I had very little pain after the procedure. I'd say the cost for the procedure was definitely reasonable. I was so fortunate to go with Dr. Simon. Highly recommended! read more

Ugh, I got the news I needed a root canal from my dentist and was referred to this office. I hate to go to the dentist, I do not numb well and in the past I have had just bad experiences. I went in not happy and then when I was told that I would have to get a 3D x-ray that I had to cover out-of-pocket that did not make my day. Fast forward...Dr. Natasha Mulko is the best!! I have never has a woman dentist before and she listened to me and she was patient and I was a little anxious because of my history with dental work and she gave me nitrous. I never thought i would have a favorite dentist, but she was amazing. I did not feel a thing for about 90% of the root canal and her and the assistant ensured that I was ok the whole time! I just want to give a big thank you to this office and all the staff. Dr. Kohut worked on me. + The doctor made something that most people fear the most into something not bad at all. + The doctor attempted to listen to me + Calmness and tranquility defined the atmosphere + They let me start my appointment early + They let me use their bathroom to prepare myself for the appointments + The doctor concentrated on the procedure and explained it step by step + Their schedule has availability and flexibility, so you can visit when you want - The doctor would not budge; he insisted on two options for treatment; I presented other options, but he refused to negotiate and compromise. - The doctor didn't understand my prevention mindset; He balked at my prevention questions. I want to feel empowerment to avoid cavities and infections and to perfect and optimize my dental health. These dentists won't give you a minute of prevention despite what they charge you; it makes me wonder about their motivation. - The cost of the procedure even with insurance set back my financial goals - The doctor like other dentists didn't pickup on my emotions: he suggested I can not affect my destiny, but empowerment calls me, so I wish he could send empowerment to me. Since I strive for diligence in diet, exercise, and health, this diagnosis baffled me and left me wondering why make good choices in life if you end up in the same place as people who make terrible choices. He failed to help me feel empowerment. After I accepted my fate, my blood pressure and pulse returned to a healthy level, so this one victory I can cherish. I guess I applaud them for taking blood pressure and pulse, so patients can celebrate something. - I planned on giving this place 3 stars, then something happened. The referring dentist finished the next step, but she has more to do, but since she overbooks her patients and does not have availability until February, I called this office to ask for another dentist that would take over. The receptionist said they can not refer someone to another dentist because they wouldn't want to refer patients away from a dentist that refers patients to them. She told me what I knew: that I shouldn't change dentists in the middle of this, but what can I do when the referring dentist has no availability until February? Hmm! They put the needs of other dentists ahead of the needs of the patients. read more

WELL DAMN.....that's not what I was expecting...I had to get a ROOT CANAL. Went very well didn't feel a thing. Very professionally. Comforting and to the point. He was like an artist the way he moved his tools around...... he's confident..... a perfectionist I would say....he took a X-ray after he did the work to make sure he checked what he fixed and it was in good shape. I thought that in itself was great and new for me. Updated technology so the procedure was comfortable without unnecessary tools and steps to complete it correctly. Staff was very nice. Outstanding! First, who wants a root canal?!? Amanda at the front desk called several #s to confirm my coverage (cobra am I right?) and was great about it. But wait, Peggy is just the bees knees. [I'm a complete dentophobe w not only massive anxiety, burning thru anisthetic, and 2 crazy molars in 6 mos (oral surgery anyone?)] Peggy was kind, informative, entertaining and patient and best of all when Dr Kohout came to check things out she had relayed ALL of my concerns to him so he was fully informed. (How many times do you usually repeat yourself in medical offices???) Best yet, when he couldn't be 1000% sure which molar was the issue, Dr Kohout sends me home to come back in 2 days to retest bc he's not the kind of dentist to say 'yeah, let's just do that...' All of this is on top of providing accurate cost and time estimates and then sticking to them, finding me a quick appointment, and being mindful of my pain and travel schedule. There is no amount of nice things I could say about Dr.Kohout and his staff, they are truly amazing! I seen a few reviews that were less than okay and I can tell you that it's not even possible. A root canal is no longer than an hour and a half, if it is I'm sure they do multiple treatments like anyone else and they are open and honest about all cost. From the moment you call to make the appointment until you leave they treat you like family. Dr. Kohout and his assistant made me feel so comfortable, they check in with you during the procedure and keep you informed on how much longer. The best root canal ever! Dr Stephen Simon has the newest technology for root canals that cuts the time in half and greatly improves the treatment and outcomes. He's a wonderful professional human being who very obviously cares and takes time to explain everything so you'll feel quite safe in his hands. Everyone at ATX Endodontist are super super nice and Dr.Rasmussen is awesome. He's very professional. He talks to you while he's doing his procedure letting you know what he doing and his assistant is a sweet as can be. I will never go to anyone except these guys. Today I had the best root canal I have ever had. It has been years since I had the last one. Dr. Marc Rasmussen and his assistant Peggy are truly professional and they work together like dancers whose timing is perfect. They both are highly skilled and passionate about their work. Peggy did preliminary scanning and xray work so perfectly it just plain made me happy. I explained that I was very sensitive to pain, a real wus and I wanted nitrous oxide before the novacaine. Marc explained the timing and percentage of gas as it was applied. When he did start with the novacaine shots there was no pain. The whole root canal process was quick and painless. And the best part was having two pros polished in their art performing flawlessly. I will never have a root canal performed by any other doctor than Marc. Have you ever had such a fantastic experience you want to do something for that person to show your appreciation? That's how I feel about Dr. Kohout and his staff. I feel like I want to send flowers or bake them a cake...something!! I went into his office in terrible pain and completely terrified. His calming manner and professionalism reassured me and the numbing shots put an end to my pain. I often associated a root canal to something traumatic and painful like giving birth but I was 100% WRONG! Easiest dental procedure ever. Little to no pain afterward and general warm fuzzies all around. This doctor actually performed the entire procedure thru a microscope mounted above my head. A true master of his craft and a kind, really approachable, cool guy too! If you are reading Yelp reviews trying to decide on a doctor to perform a root canal, I highly recommend Dr. Kohout and his staff from the bottom of my heart. I took my son to have one about two weeks after having mine and we're both extremely pleased with the results and this doctor. His staff and dental assistants are pleasant, compassionate people who don't treat patients as a number, but rather humans...can't ask for more than that! Dr. Rasmussen was really kind and patient, but more importantly, he's very, very good. I have braces, and two different dentists told me they couldn't do a root canal unless they removed my arch wire, and if you've ever had braces you know how uncomfortable braces are when your arch wire is out! Dr. Rasmussen didn't have any trouble threading a rubber dam underneath my arch wire, and this was the fastest root canal I'd ever had. Hands down the best root canal experience I've ever had! To start- ATX Endodontics worked me in for an appointment 2 days after I initially called. I'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to dental work and usually require sedation but I was in so much pain from my abscessed tooth I decided to go ahead and have it worked on during my initial consultation. Dr. Simon and his team are INCREDIBLE! They talked me through every step of the process and made me feel so at ease the entire time. I offered to take my 80 year old neighbor, who lives alone, here for a tooth removal as it seemed best that he not drive. He informed me the next day that they had advised he have someone drop him off. But, he offered no other requirements for me and I signed nothing. His appointment was 7:30 this morning, they asked him to arrive at 7:15. We live not far so I got up right before 7, grabbed a quick coffee because I planned to come home and get breakfast / clean up so I could return and pick him up. We arrived at 7:15. I asked how long he would be and offered my number so they could call me when he was ready. They flat out said I HAD to be there and could not leave. I asked why. They replied that someone HAD to be there to be "responsible" and HAD to sit with him for half an hour in post OP. Now, I have no power of attorney, no Medical Power of attorney, no immediate access to the details of his living will, so I'm not exactly sure what they expected me to be "RESPONSIBLE" for. Perhaps they should figure that out. Anyway, Since this was unexpected and I hadn't taken some medications I need each day for pain, I again clarified by stating "So he'll be in at 7:30 and we'll be able to leave at 8:30"? Yes they said - but we have a consolation breakfast for you of goldfish and granola bars. At 7:50 they finally wheeled him back. No explanation why they can't start on time for the mornings second appointment. The only other patient ahead of us had JUST gone back a minute before. So, they don't know how to start their appointments on time. At 8:40 they finally came and let me know he was in post op. Now during this time I had to sit upright in these very uncomfortable waiting room chairs, which made the pain in my back all the worse. On top of that I was treated to extensive full voice conversations from the front office staff of their concerns over lack of personal control within their dental plan choices. They apparently missed the irony of their thoughts when they had just taken my control for my morning away. I went to post OP and he was fully lucid. I could see no reason why he had to stay at all. Now, I worked in one of the largest healthcare systems in the country, for years, and managed the patient experience for 6 of those years. I KNOW what experiences patients are having. I've seen why people need to recover in POST OP. He had no degree of loopiness. I gave him some standard cognizance questions which he easily answered. At 9:25 - the doctor, who was supposed to come for a post OP visit, had still not shown. I'm now 2.5 hours into an unexpected stay and my pain level is climbing. I went out and announced to the front desk "We are leaving at 9:30" whereupon at least 3 people told one form of lie or another about what WE could not do. Thankfully I know the laws and I know medicine and I know patient rights. So I merely repeated my claim and went back to my elderly neighbor. He was ready to go. Another person came in and tried yet another lie so I repeated my statement. At 9:31 a medical tech, having heard the "rumors" in the back, said the Doctor was in surgery and had given her to ok to do discharge. It appears he's not very good at scheduling his clinic time. She was very kind and helped us out of there promptly and without the BS I experienced from the front desk staff. It's an unfortunate reality of modern American healthcare that despite how good the Clinical staff are, the patient experience is often made or broken by the front office staff. That was clearly the case here. The doctor should hire some new staff and make sure they have detailed training on patient rights and delivering a patient experience. Oh, and hire some experts in clinical scheduling to help him with his scheduling problems. Then maybe he can deliver the type of experience his patients deserve. read more

He fully explains everything, let's you make an educated decision and proceeds. He doesn't have heavy hands.. I didn't feel a thing and his assistant is wonderful! They work together very well. I put my headphones in, had the nitrous going, they put shades on me and I drifted into lala land. Next thing I knew I was done! I came here due to the past endo as he was excellent, Dr. Heggen and felt the same level of expertise would be received. I have made the commute of 50 plus minutes twice and I really don't have any positive words for either visit. My first visit a simple consultation I sat waiting in a chair for 48 minutes to be told for approximately 6 minutes without a 3D they couldn't tell the state of my tooth. Ok $140 dollars and out the door . I come back on a Wednesday for the 3 day exam paid the $150 fee and was told I would hear from the endo the following day on Thursday. Thursday cam and went so Friday I initiated a call and was told sorry he would look at it today and we will get back to you. Well here I am July 4 a whole week from having the 3D and still no call on my tooth. I guess I should have paid the additional money and stuck with the referral closer to my home that my general dentist referred me to. It's unfortunate the poor level of care I have received for $290, I would not recommend this office. read more
